Abstract:A microwave (MW)-assisted three-component coupling of amino alcohols, aldehydes, and alkynes is developed under catalysis by CuCl. Compared with thermal conditions, MW irradiation greatly increases the reaction efficiency. The reactions of various primary N-alkyl/arylamino alcohols, aliphatic/aromatic aldehydes, and alkynes are systematically investigated, affording the desired products in moderate to good yields. Notably, acetylene is also an effective reactant under the current MW-assisted conditions.

Abstract:In the presence of acenaphthoimidazole N-heterocyclic carbene palladium complexes, cyanation of aryl bromides by non-toxic and inexpensive potassium hexacyanoferrate (II) as cyanide source in water has been investigated under microwave conditions. Both electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups attached to the substrates show unobvious effects on the transformation and produce the corresponding products in good to excellent yields within few minutes, which demonstrate the practicability and environmentally friendliness of the new developed protocol.

Abstract:Carbon–heteroatom (C–X) cross-coupling is a common method for bond-forming reactions in chemistry but the more electronegative the heteroatom X is, the more challenging the bond formation becomes. Although reductive elimination from Cu(III) intermediates to form C–X bonds is generally a facile reaction, oxidative addition of Cu(I) into the carbon–(pseudo)halide bond of aryl (pseudo)halides is energetically challenging. Therefore, cross-coupling reactions of aryl halides with a variety of nucleophiles is currently out of reach for methods based on copper. Here we present a strategy to bypass the high-barrier oxidative addition step to aryl halides by the generation of aryl radicals from triplet states. Photoinduced energy transfer to, or direct excitation of, aryl halides even enables the use of aryl chlorides as electrophilic coupling partners. This strategy allows for the use of alcohols, amines and fluoride as nucleophiles and expands the scope of copper-mediated cross-coupling chemistry.

Abstract:A tandem coupling-ketooxygenation reaction of readily accessible enediyne-carboxylic compounds with inner alkynes has been developed that utilizes the PdCl2/CuBr2 catalytic system under an O2 atmosphere and assembles a class of isoindolinones and o-acylbenzoic acids. The two oxygen atoms are regioselectively incorporated into enediyne units at the 1- and 6-positions from atmospheric molecular oxygen and H2O, respectively, during the present process. This study uncovered a formal [4C + 2C] benzannulation-diketonization of enediynes and alkynes via a coupling and decoupling strategy.

Abstract:Biaryls and bis-heterocycles can be synthesized conveniently,efficiently,and generally via palladium(0)-catalyzed homocoupling of aryl bromides with hexabutylditin as reductant.This method delivers biaryls in good to excellent yields in 15 min under controlled microwave irradiation.Various bromo-derivatives of electron-rich or electron-poor arenes and aromatic heterocycles including benzene,thiophene,furan,pyridine,thiazole,and pyrimidine are easily coupled.This homocoupling method is also applicable to the bromides of fused-ring arenes such as naphthalene,quinoline,benzothiophene,and indole.The procedure is compatible with various reactive functionalities such as hydroxy,amino,carboxyl,formyl,acyl,alkoxycarbonyl,nitro,and cyano groups.The reaction appears to proceed through in situ formation of an aryl tin,followed by a Stille coupling to the aryl bromide.

Abstract:CuI/ethylene diamine/K2CO3/dioxane is shown to be a useful system for the cross coupling reactions of various aryl iodides and bromides with aryl and alkyl alkynes. Compared to the conventional Sonogashira reactions, the new procedure is free of palladium and phosphines.

Abstract:An efficient palladium-catalyzed copper-free Sonogashira reaction in water and acetone has been developed under mild conditions. The results showed that the aryl iodides could carry out the cross-coupling reaction with a variety of terminal alkynes in high yields in water-acetone in the absence of amine, copper(l) salts, or phosphine ligands at 60 degrees C for one hour, and good yields were obtained for aryl bromides at 60 degrees C for 12-24 hours in the presence of triphenylphosphine and piperidine. The method could be used to synthesize polyethynyl aromatic compounds in a one-pot reaction.

Abstract:Microwave irradiation promoted the intramolecular cycloaddition of 2-azidoacetamides derived from a-chiral propargylic amines, affording 1,4,5-trisubstituted triazoles 4 bearing a chiral aminomethyl side chain at C5. In contrast, for the same substrates 3a-k, Cu(I)-NHC complexes catalyzed the intermolecular cycloaddition in an unexpected desilylative fashion, leading to 1,4-disubstituted triazoles 5. This demonstrates that 1-silyl alkynes can be employed as substrates for CuAAC with a suitable coupling partner.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed dehydrogenative cross-coupling reaction between unactivated ethers and simple ketones mediated by pyrrolidine has been developed. Under the catalysis of CuBr2 and in the presence of pyrrolidine, either tetrahydrofuran 2a or tetrahydropyran 2b can react smoothly with a series of methyl aryl ketones 1a–m to give desired coupling products 3aa–mb using TBHP as an oxidant. The advantages of the dehydrogenative cross-coupling reaction are adoption of unmodified ethers as substrates, good tolerance of many functional groups and use of cheap copper salt as a catalyst. A plausible radical mechanism through enamine attack is proposed.
