Abstract:The load simulation methods for comprehensive performance test bench of drive axle are discussed.First,the vertical load is directly applied on tested axle by hydrocylinder through level;and for modification axle,equivalent load should be applied instead.Second,for simulating vehicle moving with maximum traction force,the road resistance moment is simulated by applying a torque through a current-excited magnetic powder brake.Third,for emergency braking performance test,the translational inertia of complete vehicle is simulated by the moment of inertia of a flywheel.Tests show that the loading scheme can rather accurately simulate the actual loads exerting on a vehicle and hence can relatively exactly evaluate the comprehensive performance of drive axle.

Abstract:This paper summarizes the highly nonlinear problems existing in the structural analysis and design of weatherstrip seals.On this basis,material constitutive models that effectively simulate the material of weather strip seals,together with the development of basic material tests and supporting test equipment,are summed up.Rules to select appropriate material models and the impact of some key issues such as the Mullins and Friction Effect on material tests and simulation analysis are fully discussed and analyzed.Combined with large-scale nonlinear finite element software,this study examines the specific application of the existing CAE technique in evaluating the actual performance of weatherstrip seals.

Abstract:Based on the breakage mode of circular tubular X-joints,three analytic models are summarized: round-direction model,clash-cut model and cut model. The results gotten from the models are compared with the results gotten from “Code for Design of Steel Structure” (GB 50017-2003) and numerical method,the appropriate scope of these models is found out,and the scope of ultimate bearing capacity formula in GB 50017-2003 is also supplemented.

Abstract:Frame is an important truck part to connect and support engine, transmission, carriage and cab etc. It is important to analyze strength, stiffness and dynamic characteristics for frame design. This paper developed static analysis of a specific agricultural truck frame under two conditions of full load bending and reverse. The corresponding suggestions of structural modification were proposed. Then the dynamic response of truck frame caused by the external incentives was studied, namely harmonic response analysis and transient dynamic analysis. The paper not only analyzed whether the truck frame met the strength requirements, but also proposed the corresponding solutions for the possible cases of fatigue fracture and stress overloaded of the frame.

Abstract:On the basis of analyzing the typical operating conditions of a simplified vehicle model,3D Model of the rear axle housing was built by using a 3D design software UGnx2.0,and calculated its structure with the method of finite element analysis.In the effect of alternating stress,the rear axle housing was found existing crack defects.The reason of defects existing is analyzed.The improvement measures are put forward.It is calculated to prove that the measures are feasible and effective,which can provide reference for the design of that rear axle housing.

Abstract:Building the Finite Element Models of the automotive wheel′s cornering fatigue test and doing numerical simulate using I-DEAS. The wheel′s fatigue life is evaluated by the Nominal Stress Approach in combination with the aluminum alloy′s properties. In comparison with the test result, the analysis one is close to the real life, which proved that the way is feasible and effective.

Abstract:The fatigue life of half shaft in automotive driving axle is predicted based on material fatigue damage accumulation theory,and a theoretical model for intensifying coefficient in lab test is put forward with random load spectrum processing technique.An intensified lab test system for driving axle is developed and tests are performed on several products including the driving axle of 5t loader ZL50DWB.The results indicate that the theoretical model and the full-scale test tally well.

Abstract:With ANSYS finite element analysis software, finite element method was used to analyze the flexible Ferris wheel in this paper. By obtaining stress and deformation of the structure strength and stiffness was calculated and assessed. Improvements were made on this basis to meet the design requirements. With stability and dynamic analysis structure has good global stability and the frequency spectrum of structure is dense and even distribution. The analysis procedure and results indicated in this paper can be used as a reference for the analysis and design of similar projects.

Abstract:To save energy and reduce emission,material lightweight in car is one of the basic methods,Longitudinal rails of car body are closed thin-walled tubes.The cross-section shape is mostly square and sometimes hexagon.For the closed thin-walled square and hexagon tube,steel material substitution method for lightweight thin-walled square and hexagon tube design subject to axial crashworthiness is developed.To validate the method,we set up a lightweight design sample of substituting HSS and AHSS for mild steel,then a crash simulation with FEA is built.Through the research and numerical calculation,the validity of the steel material substitution method for lightweight thin-walled square and hexagon tube design based on BCE element is proved.

Abstract:Reasonably simplifying the model of the rear axle of corn harvester is a prerequisite of its strength analysis.After building the finite element model of rear axle,the load of rear axle can be calculated at several typical working conditions,and then the strength of rear axle can be verified and assessed by Nastran.By this method,the strength of rear axle can be verified effectively and special guidance for the design of products is provided.

Abstract:Mechanical deviations induced by working conditions are always ignored in assembly analysis due to the rigid body hypothesis of parts. This paper presents a study of the deviations resulting from the actual working conditions. Finite element analysis (FEA) is conducted to simulate the deviations occurring in assemblies, in which the point-cloud geometry representation of deformed parts is adopted to enable the calculation of small displacements by means of relative positioning. The simulated deviations are incorporated in manufacturing deviations to determine the functional requirements based on Jacobian-torsor model. The approach is finally illustrated by a practical example.
Analysis and Design of Hydroforming Process for Automobile Rear Axle Housing by Fem

Abstract:An FEM program, HydroFORM-3D, for the analysis and design of tube hydroforming processes, has been developed by modifying and adding some subroutines to the previous rigid-plastic finite element program, and then applied to the hydroforming process for an automobile rear axle housing. This paper includes the theoretical background of the program development. Through a numerical simulation, an optimum process is proposed to meet the practical requirements, which shows the efficiency of the numerical simulation. Two types of hydroforming dies are analyzed by numerical simulation. The sliding-type die has the drawback of a possibility of buckling, whereas the fixed-type die causes bursting failure. The thickness distribution of the final product is affected not only by the types of die, but also by the loading paths. The potential failure site for rear axle housing predicted by the numerical simulation is consistent with the experimental results. The values of maximum axial compression force for the first and second hydroforming processes are also in good agreement with experimental data. To manufacture a sound automobile rear axle housing without failure, it is better to use the sliding-type die and it is also critical to maintain a suitable hydraulic pressure level.

Abstract:The cross-beam cracking occurred in the bench test after the torsion beam rear-axle assembly of a particular car was developed. The optimized design is performed based on the problem in this article, thereby enabling this car to satisfy the requirements of rear -axle strength, fatigue design and fatigue test. A four -stage modification is covered in this article. The design optimization, fatigue simulation, fatigue bench test, repeated design optimization are performed with regard to the modified rear axle at each stage. Furthermore, technological and material optimization is also included in the modification period.

Abstract:In actual engineering, the drive axle of vehicles is often enlarged to prevent it from being damaged. However, the enlargement will increase the weight of the vehicle, pushing up fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. This common practice is obviously detrimental to the environment and sustainable development. To meet the stiffness and strength requirements on the drive axle housing of Steyr heavy trucks, this paper carries out finite-element analysis on the stiffness and strength of the axile housing under different working conditions, in the light of its actual stress features. According to the production process of drive axle housing in truck, the authors reviewed the development of the materials for high-strength axle housing, which could be properly formed through hot stamping, cold stamping, and mechanical expansion, and briefly introduced the structural features of drive axle housing. Then, a drive axle model was established in the three-dimensional (3D) drawing software Pro/ENGINEER, and converted into a finite-element model in Pro/Mechanica by calling the meshing command. On this basis, the static load of axle housing was analyzed under four working conditions: maximum vertical force, maximum traction, maximum braking force, and maximum lateral force. Finite-element analysis was performed on the meshed model to obtain the displacement and stress cloud maps of the axle housing under each working condition. The results show that the drive axle housing satisfy the requirements on strength, stiffness, and deformation. To sum up, this research improves the design efficiency and quality of products through finite-element analysis on the stiffness and strength of drive axle housing.

Numerical simulation and analysis of welding of drive axle housing and axle tube

Abstract:Aiming at the Mag welding between the drive axle housing and the axle tube of commercial vehicles, the finite element numerical model of the welding process was established by using the finite element software Sysweld. Combined with the actual welding process parameters and the thermophysical and mechanical performance parameters of the material, an appropriate heat source model was selected, and the simulation results of the welded joint and the actual molten pool morphology were compared to verify the correctness of the heat source model. The temperature distribution cloud diagram of the welded joint at different times and the thermal cycle curve of the key nodes were obtained by analysis. By comparing the test results with the numerical simulation results, the reliability of the numerical simulation of the axle tube and the axle housing was proved. When analyzing the axial residual stress and circumferential residual stress of the welded joint, it was found that the peak value of residual stress was located at the welding root, which is consistent with the actual failure position of the axle housing.

The strength,stiffness and mode shape of the rear axle housing was calculated via finite elemant methool(FEM). Abstract:Cast tubular joints are widely applied in bridges,high-rise and industrial constructions,because from a structural and aesthetic point of view they are superior to directly welded joints.Cast tubular joints have lower stress concentrations and higher ultimate loading capacity than welded joints because they have better shapes of fillet and no welds in the critical areas.In this paper parametric analysis of cast T-joints is performed.The geometry model was established using Solidworks.Non-linear analysis was carried out using the commercial finite element programme Ansys.Based on the results of finite equations of ultimate loading capacity of T-joints under axial loading are derived element analysis.The relation ship of the ultimate loading capacity in cast tubular joints with the geometric parameters has been determined.Besides the parameters which governing the stresses in welded joints,an additional parameter ρ that is defined by C.D.Edwards has been introduced to describe the size of fillet.The sensitivity of ultimate loading capacity of cast tubular joints to the parameter ρ is also discussed.
