Abstract:An efficient one-pot procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzimidazoles from isoselenocyanates and various substituted diamines is described. Precipitation of elemental selenium from the reaction mixture greatly simplifies the purification procedure and also allows it to be re-used for preparation of isoselenocyanates. A possible mechanism for the formation of 2-aminobenzimidazoles is proposed.

Abstract:An expeditious method to access 2-aminobenzoxazoles and 2-aminobenzothiazoles from various substituted 2-aminophenols and 2-aminothiophenols, respectively, with isoselenocyanates in a one pot procedure is reported. Elemental Se precipitates nearly quantitatively in the reaction without any deselenizing agent and it can be reused. A possible mechanism for the formation of the target products is proposed.

Abstract:A new protocol has been developed for the formation of C−Se and C−S bonds by the direct selenosulfonylation of alkenes. This protocol is operationally simplistic, has a wide substrate scope, uses readily available seleno and sulfonyl sources, and is amenable to gram-scale synthesis. This reaction represents a significant addition to the limited number of reactions available for the intermolecular selenide difunctionalization of alkenes and would be useful for the synthesis of sulfur- and selenium-containing molecules

Abstract:Na2SeSO3, which can be generated in situ by the reaction of Na2SO3 with Se power, was found to be an odorless reagent for the selenenylation of alkyl halides to produce dialkyl diselenides. These products have been recently shown to be good catalysts for the Baeyer–Villiger oxidation of carbonyl compounds, for the selective oxidation of alkenes, or for the oxidative deoximation of oximes. By using aqueous EtOH as the solvent and avoiding the generation of a malodourous selenol intermediate, the selenylation reaction with Na2SeSO3 is much more environmentally friendly than conventional methods. Owing to the cheap and abundant starting materials and selenium reagents, our novel synthetic method reduces the production costs of dialkyl diselenides as organoselenium catalysts, thereby advancing practical applications of organoselenium-catalysis technologies.

Abstract:The chemical reduction within a family of organic selenocyanates, as masked selenols, using reducing agents, such as Rongalite, sodium dithionite, and sodium thiosulfate is investigated. Using Rongalite, the corresponding diselenides were obtained quantitatively and selectively in very good to excellent yields (51‐100%) starting from alkyl, aryl, and benzyl selenocyanates. The scope of the reaction is unaffected by the electronic nature of the substituents. Furthermore, the reducing agent, Rongalite, is compatible with hydrolysable and reducing‐sensitive functional groups. Additionally, a simple methodology employing the in‐situ generated benzyl selenolate anion (PhCH2Se ̅) to promote aliphatic nucleophilic substitution, epoxide ring opening, and Michael addition reactions has been developed; thus extending the structural diversity of the synthesized selenium derivatives.

Abstract:Herein, a novel, efficient and metal-free multicomponent reaction of isocyanides, selenium powder and 3-aminooxetanes is reported. The reaction takes selenium powder as the selenium source, H2O as a sole reaction medium, delivering a series of 1,3-senazolines under mild conditions. Such transformation features with good functional group compatibility, broad substrate scope and high atom economy, avoids using unstable and toxic selenium agents, additional phase transfer catalyst or transition-metal catalyst, which is in line with the concept of green organic synthesis. In addition, the obtained senazolines were applied to the derivatization of biologically active molecules easily, which provides a new avenue for the synthesis of drug-like organoselenium compounds.

Abstract:Abstract We disclose herein a strategy for the rapid synthesis of versatile organoselenium compounds under mild conditions. In this work, magnesium-based selenium nucleophiles are formed in situ from easily available organic halides, magnesium metal, and elemental selenium via mechanical stimulation. This process occurs under liquid-assisted grinding (LAG) conditions, requires no complicated pre-activation procedures, and operates broadly across a diverse range of aryl, heteroaryl, and alkyl substrates. In this work, symmetrical diselenides are efficiently obtained after work-up in the air, while one-pot nucleophilic addition reactions with various electrophiles allow the comprehensive synthesis of unsymmetrical monoselenides with high functional group tolerance. Notably, the method is applied to regioselective selenylation reactions of diiodoarenes and polyaromatic aryl halides that are difficult to operate via solution approaches. Besides selenium, elemental sulfur and tellurium are also competent in this process, which showcases the potential of the methodology for the facile synthesis of organochalcogen compounds.

Abstract:Diacyl diselenides were synthesized by the reaction of arylselenoamides with acyl chlorides at 1 : 1 molar ratio using chloroform as solvent in good yields. Diacyl selenides were formed by the reaction of arylselenoamides with acyl chlorides at 1 : 2 molar ratio. A mechanism for the new method of generating diacyl diselenides and diacyl selenides was proposed.

Abstract:(Z)-1-Chloro-1-seleno-1-enes have been synthesized regio- and stereoselectively by the reaction of lithium chloride in HOAc with acetylenic selenides. In the presence of 5% mmol of PdCl2(PhCN)(2) and 10% mmol of CuI, (Z)-1-chloro-1-seleno-1-enes coupled with terminal acetylene rapidly to give selenoenynes in high yields.

Abstract:Herein, we describe the use of benzeneseleninic acid derivatives (BSA) as a bench-stable and easy to handle selenium reagent to access 4-(selanyl)isoquinoline-N-oxides through the selenocyclization of o-alkynyl benzaldehyde oximes. The reaction is conducted in refluxing methanol, allowing the thermal generation of electrophilic selenium species in situ. By this new protocol, a library of 19 selenium-decorated N-oxide isoquinolines was accessed in up to 96% yield with an outstanding substrate tolerance and the feasibility to scale it up 10 times (from 0.25 to 2.5 mmol).
