Abstract:Polystyrene-supported selenomethyl-phosphonate and polystyrene-supported selenomethyl-sulfonates have been prepared. These novel reagents were treated with LDA (or n-BuLi) to produce polystyrene-supported α-seleno carbanions, which reacted with alkyl halides, followed by stereospecific selenoxide syn-elimination to give E-vinylphosphonates and E-vinylsulfones respectively. And also these novel polymer reagents can be regenerated and reused.

Abstract:A new protocol has been developed for the formation of C−Se and C−S bonds by the direct selenosulfonylation of alkenes. This protocol is operationally simplistic, has a wide substrate scope, uses readily available seleno and sulfonyl sources, and is amenable to gram-scale synthesis. This reaction represents a significant addition to the limited number of reactions available for the intermolecular selenide difunctionalization of alkenes and would be useful for the synthesis of sulfur- and selenium-containing molecules

Abstract:An expeditious method to access 2-aminobenzoxazoles and 2-aminobenzothiazoles from various substituted 2-aminophenols and 2-aminothiophenols, respectively, with isoselenocyanates in a one pot procedure is reported. Elemental Se precipitates nearly quantitatively in the reaction without any deselenizing agent and it can be reused. A possible mechanism for the formation of the target products is proposed.

Abstract:(Z)-1-Chloro-1-seleno-1-enes have been synthesized regio- and stereoselectively by the reaction of lithium chloride in HOAc with acetylenic selenides. In the presence of 5% mmol of PdCl2(PhCN)(2) and 10% mmol of CuI, (Z)-1-chloro-1-seleno-1-enes coupled with terminal acetylene rapidly to give selenoenynes in high yields.

Abstract:Robust N-heterocyclic carbene palladium complexes are highly efficient catalysts for direct alkylsulfonylation of (hetero) aryl-or alkenyl-boronic acids with potassium metabisulfite and (hetero)-alkyl-halides. Among them, acenaphthoimidazolylidene palladium(II) complexes exhibited the highest activities, and up to quantitative yields were obtained for diverse structurally distinct sulfones under very mild reaction conditions.

Abstract:The synthesis of a novel type of chiral spiro monophosphite-olefin (SMPO) ligands based on a hexamethyl-1,1'-spirobiindane scaffold was accomplished starting from Bisphenol C. The optimal ligand could serve as an elegant chiral bidentate ligand in the Rh-catalyzed asymmetric 1,2-addition of organoboronic acids to various acyclic/cyclic aldimines, leading to chiral amines with high yields and excellent enantioselectivities. Detailed stereochemical models for enantioselective induction were elucidated through DFT calculations and postulated the origins of the higher enantioselectivity of phosphite-olefin ligands.

Abstract:The synthesis of polystyrene-supported alpha-selenoacetic acid, alpha-selenopropionic acid, and alpha-selenophenylacetic acid is described. The reaction of the dilithio derivatives of polymer-supported alpha-selenocarboxylic acids with racemic epoxides or optically active styrene oxide afforded polystyrene-supported gamma-substituted alpha-selenobutyrolactones. The alpha-alkylation reaction of gamma-substituted polystyrene-supported alpha-selenobutyrolactones provided another route for the synthesis of polystyrene-supported alpha,gamma-disubstituted alpha-selenobutyrolactones. Subsequent oxidation-elimination with an excess of 30% hydrogen peroxide at room temperature afforded substituted (3- and 5-mono-; 3,4- and 3,5-di) 2(5H)-furanones in high yields and good purities.

Abstract:Enantioselective sulfonylation of α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds from sulfur dioxide is achieved via the synergistic merger photoredox and hydrogen bonding catalysis. This approach provides a facile route to enantioenriched sulfones in the absence of transition metals by using DABCO·(SO2)2 as the sulfur dioxide surrogate. With this method, a variety of sulfones bearing a chiral centre in the α-position are prepared in moderate to good yields.
