Abstract:A new protocol has been developed for the formation of C−Se and C−S bonds by the direct selenosulfonylation of alkenes. This protocol is operationally simplistic, has a wide substrate scope, uses readily available seleno and sulfonyl sources, and is amenable to gram-scale synthesis. This reaction represents a significant addition to the limited number of reactions available for the intermolecular selenide difunctionalization of alkenes and would be useful for the synthesis of sulfur- and selenium-containing molecules

Abstract:An expeditious method to access 2-aminobenzoxazoles and 2-aminobenzothiazoles from various substituted 2-aminophenols and 2-aminothiophenols, respectively, with isoselenocyanates in a one pot procedure is reported. Elemental Se precipitates nearly quantitatively in the reaction without any deselenizing agent and it can be reused. A possible mechanism for the formation of the target products is proposed.

Abstract:[reaction: see text] The preparation of isoxazolyl- and isoxazolinyl-substituted olefins, based on polystyrene-supported selenenyl bromide, is described. Key steps include 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions and the alpha-alkylation reaction of selenium resins. The polystyrene-supported selenium resins used here not only facilitate separation of products, but also assist the crucial reaction of alpha-alkylation and selenoxide syn-elimination, which ensures the purity of the products.

Abstract:An efficient one-pot procedure for the synthesis of 2-aminobenzimidazoles from isoselenocyanates and various substituted diamines is described. Precipitation of elemental selenium from the reaction mixture greatly simplifies the purification procedure and also allows it to be re-used for preparation of isoselenocyanates. A possible mechanism for the formation of 2-aminobenzimidazoles is proposed.

Abstract:We have developed efficient methods for the syntheses of 3,5-disubstituted isoxazoles and 1,2,3-triazoles, and 1,3- and 1,4-cycloalkadiene derivatives using polymer-supported selenium resin. The advantages of these methods include straightforward operation, lack of odor, good stability, and high purity of the products.

Abstract:A selenium‐catalyzed electrophilic cascade reaction of vinylarenes with N‐fluorobenzenesulfonimide for the efficient synthesis of important β‐keto sulfones via a single operation is developed. The reactions of vinylarenes bearing electron‐withdrawing groups and electron‐donating groups proceeded smoothly in the air and gave products in up to 94% yield. Mechanistic studies suggest that vinyl amines generated by oxidative amination of vinylarenes are the intermediates, the cleavage of N‐S bond and the recombination of sulfonyl radical lead to 1,3‐migration of sulfonyl, and hydrolysis affords the products β‐keto sulfones.

Abstract:A novel iodine-mediated intermolecular iodosulfonylation reaction of alkenes for dual C-S and C-I bond formation is described. A series of alkenes could be selectively converted into the corresponding beta-iodo sulfones, which are versatile building blocks in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry. Molecular iodine was the iodine source in this reaction.

Abstract:A green approach for the generation of beta-keto sulfones through a reaction of aryldiazonium tetrafluoroborates and sulfur dioxide with silyl enol ether under catalyst-and additive-free conditions has been realized. This reaction proceeds efficiently at room temperature and goes to completion in half an hour. During the reaction process, aryldiazoni-um tetrafluoroborate is treated with DABCO center dot(SO2)(2) (DABCO= 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane) to provide a sulfonyl radical as the key intermediate, which then initiates the transformation. Oxidants or metal catalysts are avoided, and the presence of DABCO also plays an important role in the reaction.

Abstract:A one-pot nickel-catalyzed synthesis of (hetero)aryl alkyl sulfones from readily available boronic acids, sodium metabisulfite and benzylic ammonium salts as electrophiles is described. This general and efficient synthetic process is of broad scope, occurs in two steps, and delivers structural diverse sulfones, and the intermediate sulfinate is isolated. The transformation exhibits application of benzylic ammonium salts as novel electrophiles for direct insertion of SO2 as a novel area to be investigated.

Abstract:The solid-phase synthesis of sultams from resin-bound amino acids is described. The sulfonylation of the resin-bound primary amines afforded the requisite secondary amines, after which the intramolecular Buchwald–Hartwig-type coupling forms the C–S bond. A final alkylation on the sulfonamides followed by cleavage provided the corresponding seven-membered sultams.

Abstract:Polystyrene-supported 4-(phenylseleno)morpholine was synthesized and could be used as an efficient α-selenenylating agent for saturated aldehydes. α-Haloaldehydes were prepared by reaction of polystyrene-supported α-selenoaldehydes with bromine or sulfuryl chloride in good yield and high purity.

Abstract:An unprecedented double C-S bond formation method has been developed to prepare both symmetric and unsymmetric diarylsulfones with simple arenes in a single step. This represents the first example that K2S2O8 can be employed as a highly effective sulfonating agent to synthesize diarylsulfones. The reaction demonstrates excellent reactivity, good functional group tolerance and high yields.

Abstract:Vinyl-substituted 1,3,4-oxadiazoles can be efficiently synthesized through acylation, cyclocondensation, and oxidation-elimination reaction from polystyrene-supported -selenopropionic acid and acid hydrazides.
