Abstract:In this paper the time characteristics of soft X-ray diode (XRD) is studied. XRD is the importance component of soft X-ray spectrometer,which measures the soft X-ray spectrum emited by laser-plasma.The experiment utilizes the 200TW laser facility with energy ～6J and pulse width ～30fs at the Laser Fusion Research Center of CAEP.The Au foil target irradiated by laser pulse produced X-ray emission, the filter(Al)-XRD system measures the X-ray signal.The high frequency cable (SUJ-50) transmits the electrical signal, a broad band oscillograph (TDS694C and TDS6604B) registers the signal.Linearity fit and comparison analysis of experimental data are performed.

Abstract:Due to the nondestructive requirements of gem testing,evaluation of precious stones shows characteristics of science and uncertainty.Gemological application of X-ray Diffraction (XRD)is specialized,with its application mainly concentrated in three aspects:① Gemstone identification:phase identification of the monocrystalline gemstones and polycrystalline gemstones;origin of the gemstones;classification of the pleomorphic gem minerals.For example,according to the XRD patterns of microcrystalline cryptocrystalline quartz variants,different silica mineral phases of the chalcedony can be distinguished accurately;types of ‘Di’in bloodstone can be distinguished through the composition and content of clay mineral.②Research on crystal structure of the gem minerals:analysis of crystal chemistry of the monocrystalline gems with complex composition;situation of the substitution of mineral isomorphism;quality of the gem by using the degree of crystallinity.For example,through the c/a ratio in lattice parameters of beryl,aluminium octahedral isomorphism and the beryllium tetrahedral isomorphism can be distinguished.The relationship between the crystallinity calculated from XRD data and the quality of nephrite is close.③Development of gemological research technology:to monitor the process of gemstone optimization;to inspect the mineral crystal size, crystalline quality and internal stress during the synthetic process of gemstones;to research the artificial breeding technology based on the crystal structure of organic gemstones.Take the heat treatment process of spinel as example:magnesium irons moved from octahedral M—O to tetrahedral T—O,resulting in the bond length of M—O and T—O changing upon temperature and being reflected in the spinel color.During the synthesis process of topaz,XRD data shows that the structure of the formed fluorine topaz is similar to natural topaz at 770 -800℃.At 950℃ and 1000℃, the fluorine topaz is decomposed to corundum and mullite.XRD research in the gemological application began relatively recently in China.In other countries,application in gem identification,optimization and synthesis are relatively mature.There is still much room for the development of XRD when combined with other technologies such as the Scanning Electron Microscope and Proton Microprobe.

Abstract:: Electron diffraction is one of the basic techniques to study crystal structures. With the improvement of the transmission electron microscope hardware facilities and the development of structural analysis methods, electron diffraction plays an increasingly important role in exploring the relationship between the material structures and their physical properties. In this review, the progress of crystal structure determination using electron diffraction was mainly discussed. Our group has analyzed many complex crystal structures including inorganic functional materials, zeolites and covalent organic framework materials, utilizing selected area electron diffraction and three-dimensional electron diffraction technology combined with powder X-ray diffraction, single crystal X-ray diffraction, high-resolution electron microscopy and other characterization methods.

Abstract:Based on recent developments in the theory and application of small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) we summarize our progress in applying SAXS to the structural characterization of materials. These studies involve three research areas, namely, the determination of the electron density fluctuation in organic/inorganic hybrid materials, studies of the chord length distribution in mesoporous sieves, and investigation of the structural evolution of ZrO2 nanoparticles during calcination.

Abstract:The application of powder X-ray diffraction in mineralogy and petrology is reviewed.It is shown that powder X-ray diffraction not only continues to play an important role in the traditional fields of phase identification,quantification and cell parameter determination,studies of isomorphism,polymorphism,polytype and order/disorder phenomena in minerals,petrofabrics and so forth,but have also found applications in the field of crystallization processes,phase transformation and surface study of minerals as well as in defects investigation and structure determination of minerals.

The continual expansion of molecular systems and improvement in experimental conditions have given rise to unconventional organic low-dimensional crystals, which showcase a variety of appealing structure-dependent properties in the realm of organic semiconductors, owing to their adaptable physicochemical characteristics and exceptional optoelectronics performance. Abstract:Growing high-quality crystals with ideal properties is of great importance. The morphology of crystal is one key factor reflecting product quality, as it can affect the performance of products and downstream operations. In this work, the current state of crystal morphology modification is reviewed from different perspectives. First, the most widely used crystal growth models are discussed. Then, a variety of crystal morphology control methods, which include adjustment of crystallization operation parameters, addition of foreign molecules, change of different solvents, membrane assistance, the addition of external physical fields and the use of ball milling are summarized. As for applications, the control of crystal morphology has application potential in pharmaceutical and material fields, for example, energetic materials and semiconductor materials. Finally, the future development direction of crystal morphology regulation is discussed.

Abstract:An overview is given of the development of the multi-wave X-ray diffraction as a new method to solve the X-ray phase problem. The experimental techniques and the fundamental theoretical ground on which the method is based are briefly described. Recent progress and advances using the synchrotron radiation source at the Synchrotron Radiation Research Center for the determination of the phase of X-ray reflection from complex macromolecular crystals are reported.

Abstract:Perovskites have attracted extensive attention as radiation detection material due to their long carrier diffusion length and lifetime, high absorption coefficient, and flexible manufacturing process. Compared with polycrystalline structures, single crystal perovskites improve the performance of optoelectronic devices due to their low defect state density, better photoelectric characteristics, and chemical stability. Herein, we review the recent progress of single crystal perovskite X-ray detectors. First, we briefly introduced the basic concepts, detection mechanisms, figure of merits of perovskite X-ray detectors, and the preparation methods of single crystal perovskites. Then, we summarized the significant advancements in single crystal perovskite X-ray detectors in recent times. Finally, we discussed the critical challenges and some practicable solutions for developing high-performance X-ray detectors.

Abstract:X-ray multiple-wave diffraction, like the usual two-wave Bragg diffraction, is an interference phenomenon between X-rays and a periodic crystal lattice. The detection of this phenomenon relies on the conditions of carrying out the diffraction experiments, which often involve X-ray sources and crystals. In this chapter, the experimental aspects of the currently available X-ray sources are described. The fundamentals of crystallography concerning reciprocal lattice and the factors affecting intensity measurements are briefly reviewed as well. The latter include the structure factor, absorption coefficient, Lorentz-polarization factor due to crystal rotation and the beam polarization. Other inelastic processes associated with X-ray diffraction like absorption and fluorescence are also mentioned.

Abstract:Synchrotron X-ray fluorescence analyses of crystal and amorphous clinopyroxene were compared. The results showed that using the synchrotron X-ray as a source of energy, the diffraction X-ray of crystal materials will seriously affect the X-ray fluorescence analysis. In order to avoid the influence of diffraction, the best way to solve it is to use the monochromatic source, or to have a collimating slit between sample and Si (Li) detector.

Abstract:Photonic crystals are periodic structural materials that have an impact on the propagation properties of photons. Due to their excellent optical, electrical and magnetic properties, their advantages and potential for applications in the above areas are gradually emerging. Therefore, an increasing number of researchers have focused on photonic crystals. In this paper, the characteristics of biological photonic crystal structures, such as those found in butterfly wings, sea mouse bristles, peacock feathers, melon jellyfish epidermal cells, and weevil exoskeletons, are described. The preparation methods of photonic crystals are systematically summarized (including the template method, self-assembly technology, electron beam evaporation coating technology, chemical vapor deposition technology, femtosecond laser two-photon technology, spin coating technology, and a variety of technology mixing), and the characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages of the different methods are compared. Furthermore, the development of photonic crystals in the field of sensors, solar cells, filters, and infrared stealth is discussed, demonstrateing the great development potential of photonic crystals. It is concluded that the realization of photonic crystals with high precision, high sensitivity, angle independence, and large-area uniform preparation is a key problem requiring urgent solution. Moreover, photonic crystals have potential development prospects in the fields of equipment stealth, new concept weapons, production, an daily life.

Abstract:ConspectusAll crystalline materials in nature, whether inorganic, organic, or biological, macroscopic or microscopic, have their own chemical and physical properties, which strongly depend on their atomic structures. Therefore, structure determination is extremely important in chemistry, physics, materials science, etc. In the past centuries, many techniques have been developed for structure determination. The most widely used one is X-ray crystallography (single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD) and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD)), and it remains the most important technique for structure determination of crystalline materials. Abstract:Cryogenic X-ray spectrometers are advantageous in the spectrum research for weak and diffusive X-ray source due to their high energy resolution, high detection efficiency, low noise level and non-dead-layer properties. Their energy resolution independent of the incident X-ray direction also makes them competitive in diffusion source detection. The requirements for X-ray spectrometers have heightened in recent years with the rapid development of large scientific facilities where X-ray detection is demanded, including beamline endstations in synchrotron and X-ray free electron laser facilities, accelerators, highly charged ion traps, X-ray space satellites, etc. Because of their excellent performances, cryogenic X-ray detectors are introduced into these facilities, typical examples of which are APS, NSLS, LCLS-II, Spring-8, SSNL, ATHENA, HUBS. In this paper, we review the cryogenic X-ray spectrometers, from the working principle and classification, system structure, major performance characteristics to the research status and trend in large scientific facilities in the world.
Growth of Anthracene Microcrystals by the Micro-space Sublimation Method and Their Photophysical Properties

Abstract:Anthracene and its derivatives are widely utilized in optoelectronic devices due to their unique properties. Generally, single-crystal structures can avoid non-radiative recombination, enhance carrier mobility, and ultimately improve device performance. In this work, anthracene microcrystals were prepared using the micro-space sublimation method. Through real-time in-situ observation, the crystallization dynamics of anthracene molecules were revealed. Unlike traditional vacuum evaporation deposition technique, the close proximity of the substrate to the source facilitates the self-assembly of anthracene molecules into an ordered crystal structure. Five peaks can be observed in the photoluminescence spectrum, corresponding to various lowest excited state decay processes. The fluorescence intensity at the peak of 423 nm decreases significantly with increasing temperature. The reason for this is the relatively high exciton binding energy, which makes excitons more stable and easier to form. The lattice vibrations induced by increased temperature were found to affect the transport and separation of excitons. Time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy imaging revealed that a relatively uniform distribution of fluorescence lifetimes in the anthracene microcrystals, indicating high crystallization quality. This work provides valuable insights for controlling the morphology and investigating the photophysical properties of organic semiconductors.

Abstract:Crystal structure refinement and analysis is a powerful method for determination of crystal structures and finds widespread application in determination of structures of crystals of small molecules and frameworks at atomic resolution. The independent atom model is used to describe atomic scattering for routine use, while more accurate aspherical scattering factors are increasingly available. The structure factor is presented as the Fourier transform of convolutions of scattering and probability densities in the crystal structure to clarify how aspherical scattering factors and alternative displacement probabilities can be introduced into refinement methods. Non-linear least squares fitting of the crystal structure parameters in the structure factor equations is described using matrix algebra notation which enables simple derivation of the extensions required for discussion of crystallographic restraints and leverage analysis. Finally, combined analysis of multiple single-crystal experiments is discussed highlighting the potential of refinement tools to extract useful information from joint X-ray and neutron data and from mixed ground-state and excited-state X-ray data from pump-probe experiments.

Abstract:X-ray diffraction method was used in the research of mineral composition of tens of Shoushan Stone samples.The result shows that those samples can be classified into nine kinds,and their colors and transparency vary with the difference of mineral compositions.It shows that the factors influencing Shoushan stone quality are very complicated.
