Crystals
Abstract:Growing high-quality crystals with ideal properties is of great importance. The morphology of crystal is one key factor reflecting product quality, as it can affect the performance of products and downstream operations. In this work, the current state of crystal morphology modification is reviewed from different perspectives. First, the most widely used crystal growth models are discussed. Then, a variety of crystal morphology control methods, which include adjustment of crystallization operation parameters, addition of foreign molecules, change of different solvents, membrane assistance, the addition of external physical fields and the use of ball milling are summarized. As for applications, the control of crystal morphology has application potential in pharmaceutical and material fields, for example, energetic materials and semiconductor materials. Finally, the future development direction of crystal morphology regulation is discussed.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
### Problems the Paper Attempts to Solve The paper primarily focuses on the prediction and regulation methods of crystal morphology. Specifically, the paper attempts to address the following core issues: 1. **Crystal Growth Models**: - An overview of widely used crystal growth models, including the Bravais-Friedel-Donnay-Harker (BFDH) model, the Attachment Energy (AE) model and its modified version (MAE) model, the Occupancy Model, and the Spiral Growth Model, among others. - These models aim to predict the growth rates of different crystal faces and their final morphology through theoretical frameworks. 2. **Crystal Morphology Regulation Methods**: - A summary of various methods to regulate crystal morphology, including adjusting crystallization operation parameters, adding foreign molecules, changing solvent types, membrane-assisted techniques, adding external physical fields, and ball milling. - A discussion on how these methods influence the crystal growth process and ultimately achieve effective control over crystal morphology. 3. **Application Fields**: - An exploration of the potential applications of crystal morphology control in the pharmaceutical and materials fields, such as the solubility of drug crystals and the performance of semiconductor materials. - Special mention of the disadvantages of needle-like and plate-like crystals in practical applications and their impact on subsequent processing. 4. **Future Development Directions**: - Proposals for future research directions and development prospects in the field of crystal morphology regulation, emphasizing the importance of further improving existing models and experimental data. In summary, the paper aims to deeply understand and precisely control the morphological changes during the crystal growth process through theoretical modeling and experimental methods to meet the needs of different application fields.
