Abstract:Das stabilste der drei möglichen Strukturisomere des Corrols ist laut Theorie das Isocorrol, für das die Titelverbindung 1 eine Modellverbindung ist. Einen präparativen Zugang zu 1 eröffnet die reduktive Kupplung des entsprechenden α‐ω‐Tetrapyrroldialdehyds nach McMurry. Das Isocorrolderivat 1 vermag analog zu Corrol Metallionen in höheren Oxidationszuständen zu stabilisieren. Ein Beispiel dafür ist der CuIII‐Komplex 2, der als Zwischenstufe auf dem Wege zum 9‐Formyloctaethylisocorrol isoliert wurde.magnified image

Abstract:A series of (4-cyanophenyl)porphyrins have been prepared and structurally characterized by H-1 NMR, IR and UV/Vis spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. The relative singlet-oxygen quantum yields, two-photon absorption cross-sections and DNA photocleavage activities of these porphyrins were measured. The results show that (4-cyanophenyl)porphyrins with a properly designed hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance for better cellular uptake have potential application in two-photon-absorption photodynamic therapy. Abstract:Die Cyclooctapyrrole 1‐3 sind eindrucksvolle Beispiele dafür , daß bei der Kondensation von dipyrrolischen Bausteinen die Bildung von Cyclooctapyrrolen gegenüber der entsprechender Cyclotetrapyrrole bevorzugt sein kann, wenn die Cyclisierung zu letzteren konformativ behindert ist. Die Makrocyclen sind chiral und könnten mit Metall‐Ionen interressante Komplexe bilden. Abstract:Freisetzung des Liganden aus dem durch Templatsynthese gewonnenen Nickelkomplex 1 lieferte Isoporphycen (als Octaethylderivat 2), das erste Porphyrin-Konstitutionsisomer mit einem N4-Kern, bei dem E/Z-Isomerie ins Spiel kommt: 2 liegt als E-Isomer vor, das mit einer gerade noch nachweisbaren Menge (2 %) an Z-Isomer in sehr raschem, vermutlich säurekatalysiertem Gleichgewicht steht. Die verbleibenden unbekannten Porphyrin-Konstitutionsisomere sind noch erheblich energiereicher als das bereits labile Isoporphycen, so daß mit diesem die Grenze der Existenzfähigkeit von Porphyrin-Strukturvarianten dieses Typs erreicht sein dürfte.

Abstract:Ring-contracted porphyrin analogues, such as subporphyrins and calix[3]pyrroles, have recently attracted considerable attention not only as challenging synthetic targets but also as functional macrocyclic compounds. Although canonical porphyrins and calix[4]pyrrole are selectively generated via acid-catalyzed condensation reactions of pyrrole monomers, their tripyrrolic analogues are always missing under similar conditions. Recent progress in synthesis has shown that strain-controlled approaches using boron(III)-templating, core-modification, or ring tightening provide access to various contracted porphyrins. The tripyrrolic macrocycles are a new class of functional macrocycles exhibiting unique ring-contraction effects, including strong boron chelation and strain-induced ring expansion. This Perspective reviews recent advances in synthetic strategies and the novel ring-contraction effects of subporphyrins, triphyrins(2.1.1), calix[3]pyrroles, and their analogoues.

Abstract:A novel polymer-supported porphyrinatoiron Poly-Fe(ATPP)Cl was synthesized by condensation between mono-amino substituted porphyrinatoiron Fe(ATPP)Cl and poly(acrylonitrile-co-acryl acid).As a model system of cytochrome P-450,O_2-ascorbicacid-Poly-Fe(ATPP)Cl was applied to the catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane in mild condition to afford cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone.It was found that the oxidation reaction mainly dependents on the reaction time and the catalyst composition,including the content of ascorbic acid and axial base.The recycling of Poly-Fe(ATPP)Cl was also investigated.

Abstract:Die Naturstoffe Isatropolon A–C (1–3) wurden aus Streptomyces Go66 reisoliert, und insbesondere 1 und 3 zeigen sehr gute Aktivitat gegen Leishmania donovani. Sie tragen einen ungewohnlichen Tropolonring, der uber einen Typ-II-Polyketid-Biosyntheseweg aufgebaut wird. Ihre Biosynthese wurde mithilfe von Markierungsexperimenten, einer Analyse des Biosynthese-Genclusters, heterologer Expression des Hauptteils des Genclusters und strukturelle Charakterisierung verschiedener Intermediate aufgeklart. Aufgrund eines 1,5-Diketon-Strukturelementes konnen die Isatropolone mit Ammoniak und Aminen und insbesondere Lysin sowie Lysin-tragenden Peptiden und Proteinen reagieren und einen Pyridinring bilden. Dabei andern sich die Fluoreszenz-Eigenschaften so deutlich, dass die so markierten Peptide und Proteine sehr einfach sichtbar gemacht werden konnen.

Abstract:Liberation of the ligand from the nickel complex 1 obtained by template synthesis yielded isoporphycene (as the octaethyl derivative 2), the first constitutional isomer of porphyrin with an N(4) core for which E/Z isomerism is involved: Compound 2 is present as the E isomer, which is in rapid, presumably acid-catalyzed equilibrium with a small amount (2 %) of the Z isomer. The remaining unknown constitutional isomers of porphyrin are considerably higher in energy than the already rather labile isoporphycene, so that the latter should mark the border of existence for this type of structural variant of porphyrin.

Abstract:AbstractThe synthesis spectroscopic properties and tautomerism of four novel mono‐mesosubstituted(R)‐octamethylporphyrins (R=o‐hydroxybenzyl, p‐aminobenzyl, 4‐pyridinyl, and ferrocenyl) were investigated. It was found that the porphyrins2, 3 could be directly prepared in good yields via the coupling reaction of salicylaldehyde and p‐aminobenzyl aldehyde with octamethyl‐1′,8′‐dideoxy‐ac‐biladiene dihydrobromide, respectively. The free energy of activation (ΔG≠) of the tautomerism of the porphyrins was calculated and interpreted in terms of electronic and steric nature. In contrast with 2‐substituted‐5,10,15,20‐tetraphenylporphyrins, the substituents in meso position do not change the relative amount of two tautomers a and b.

Abstract:The development of “porphyrin-like” molecules (porphyrinoids) and related tetrapyrroles has attracted considerable attention for the potential as optical materials and photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy (PDT). Porpholactones (TPPLs) are an important but relatively unstudied class of tetrapyrroles, which combine some of the features of porphyrins and chlorins. To explore the effect ß-Lactonization on the electronic structures and spectral properties is of importance to expand the porpholactone chemistry. In recent years, we focused on the synthesis, characterization and the application of porpholactone and their metal complexes. Based on the skeleton of porpholactones, the β-lactone moiety provides an access to tune their NIR optical characteristics, amphilicity and cellular behaviour. More importantly, the relative orientation of the β-dilactone moieties significantly influences their electronic structures and photophysical properties, for example, the Qy band of trans-porphodilactone is red shifted 19 nm compared to that of the cis-isomer with a 2-fold increase in the absorption intensity. Trans-isomer exhibit much higher singlet oxygen quantum yield and the related PDT efficiency than cis-isomer upon irradiation at their Qv bands, respectively. Thus, these results reveal the importance of relative orientation of b-substituents on optical properties at NIR regions.

Abstract:Exploration of expanded porphyrins with unprecedented reactivities has remained important. Here [22]pentaphyrins(2.0.1.1.0) were synthesized as a constitutional isomer of sapphyrin by acid-catalyzed cyclization of 1,14-dibromo-5,10-diaryltripyrrin with 1,2-di(pyrro-2-ly)ethenes. These pentaphyrins display roughly planar structures and varying aromaticities depending upon the vinylene structures. The 19,20-ditolyl pentaphyrin gave an N-fused product and an unprecedented pyrrole-rearranged product, depending upon the oxidation conditions. Remarkably, upon the metalation with CuCl, the N-fused product and the pyrrole-rearranged product afforded an inner b-b coupled face-to-face CuII complex dimer and an outer b-b coupled lateral CuII complex dimer, respectively, in fairly good yields. Further, [22]pentaphyrin(2.0.1.1.0) fused with a NiII porphyrin was effectively dimerized upon oxidation with MnO2 to give a 16-16' directly linked dl-dimer.

Fused Hexabenzocoronene-Porphyrin Conjugates with Tailorable Excited-State Lifetimes

Abstract:A new clear-cut strategy for fusing N-heterocyclic and carbon-pure systems is introduced en route to a versatile platform of multi-purpose tetrapyrrolic chromophores. In particular, three novel C-C bond-fused porphyrin-hexabenzocoronene (HBC) conjugates were synthesized under oxidative cyclodehydrogenation conditions, starting from tailor-made nickel porphyrin precursors. The fusion of the individual aromatic systems via 5-membered rings led to highly soluble π-extended porphyrins in excellent yields. The resulting porphyrin-HBC conjugates exhibit absorption cross-sections that are of interdisciplinary interest in the ever-growing field of organic photovoltaics and near-infrared (NIR) dyes. Quantum chemical calculations show that the newly formed 5-membered rings induce biradicaloid character in the porphyrin core, which has a strong impact on excited state lifetimes. This is confirmed by a thorough optoelectronic and time-resolved characterization in order to understand these unique features better. Broadened absorption characteristics go hand-in-hand with short-lived excited states with up to six orders of magnitude faster decay rates.

Abstract:Ethylene bridged 16π [2.2.2.2] tetrathiaisophlorin represents a novel example for the ring contracted isophlorin, where all the thiophenes are connected only through α, β position, along with E-form of ethylene bridge. It was synthesized through McMurry coupling of appropriate dialdehydes. Single Crystal X-ray diffraction studies displayed the planar con-formation of the macrocycle along with all thiophene and ethylene protons. 1H NMR studies confirms the paratropic ring current of the macrocycle, where all the ethylene protons resonate in downfield. Two 8π cyclooctatetraenes, were isolated as racemic mixture having the puckered 4nπ ring.

Abstract:The synthesis and properties of phosphorus(V) 5,10,15-tris(4-methoxycarbonylphenyl)corrole (1) have been investigated, and its potential utility for bioimaging applications in living cells has been explored. As would normally be anticipated for corrole complexes, the intensity of the Q(0,0) bands of 1 is greater than those of comparable phosphorus(V) tetraphenylporphyrins, but the Phi(F) values (0.25 for 1) are found to be comparable. A detailed analysis of the electronic structure of the complex was carried out by comparing electronic absorption and MCD spectral data to the results of TD-DFT calculations. The meso-aryl substituents, which enhance the lipophilicity of 1 and hence result in its localization in intracellular membranes during HeLa cell experiments, are predicted to result in a narrowing of the HOMO-LUMO gap and hence a red shift of the Q(0,0) bands toward the optical window in biological tissues.

Abstract:A series of nickel(II) porphyrins bearing one or two bulky nitrogen donors at the meso positions were prepared by using Ullmann methodology or more classical Buchwald-Hartwig amination reactions to create the new C-N bonds. For several new compounds, single crystals were obtained, and the X-ray structures were solved. The electrochemical data of these compounds are reported. For a few representative examples, spectroelectrochemical measurements were used to clarify the electron exchange process. In addition, a detailed electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) study was performed to estimate the extent of delocalization of the generated radical cations. In particular, electron nuclear double resonance spectroscopy (ENDOR) was used to determine the coupling constants. DFT calculations were conducted to corroborate the EPR spectroscopic data.

Abstract:Directly‐linked NiII porphyrin—NiII pyricorrole hybrid was obtained upon NiII complexation of internally‐bridged octaphyrin(1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1). The structure has been unambiguously revealed by X‐ray diffraction analysis. The pyricorrole skeleton is different from that reported earlier with regard to the position of pyridine moiety. The new pyricorrole macrocycle was characterized as a weak 18π aromatic molecule. The thermodynamic stability of NiII pyricorrole skeleton indicated by DFT calculation may drive this rearrangement.

Abstract:A series of group 9 metal tetra-(p-tolyl)-porphyrin (M(ttp), M = Co(II), Rh(III), Ir(III)) complexes with axial phenyl substituents have been synthesized and characterized. An aryl bromide cleavage reaction of transition metal complexes was used to prepare the complexes from Co(ttp), Rh(ttp) Cl and Ir(ttp) COCl, respectively. Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopy and TD-DFT calculations have been used to study trends in the optical spectra and electronic structures. The effect of introducing different para-substituents on the phenyl substituents was examined. During fluorescence emission studies, phosphorescence was observed for the Ir(III) complexes in the near infrared (NIR) region.
