Abstract:The fabrication and organization of novel organicinorganic nanocomposite materials are of great interest for future nanoelectronic devices. In the past decades, many new approachs, e.g., template technique based on polymer [1, 2] and Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films [3, 4], self-assembly [5‐10] based on organic-inorganic core-shell nanoparticles, were formed to explore the possibility of practical application of the materials. For organic-semiconductor nanocomposite materials, a promising preparation route was initiated by Fendler’s group, in which Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films were served as templates to epitaxially grow various kinds of II‐VI semiconductor nanoparticles such as cadmium sulfide (CdS), cadmium selenide (CdSe), lead sulfide (PbS) and lead selenide (PbSe) nanoparticles [11]. The methodology has demonstrated its feasibility in controlling shape, size and crystal orientation of the nanoparticles under used LB films. However, for the purpose of developing novel nanoscaled optical or electronic devices, it is necessary to tether them on suitable solid substrates in the form of ordered structures. From the view of this point, self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) films exhibit much better stable bonding between the substrate and nanoparticles than LB films do. Here, we report a new strategy to directly nucleate monodispersed ultrasmall CdS nanocrystals with an average size of 2.1 ± 0.3 nm on Au(111) substrate modified by 11-mercaptoundecanoic acid salts SAMs.
