Abstract:The first nickel-catalyzed alkenylation of unactivated C(sp(3))-H bonds with vinyl iodides is described. The catalytic system comprises an inexpensive and air-stable Ni(acac)(2) as the catalyst and BINOL as the ligand, which is highly efficient for the alkenylation of beta-methyl C(sp(3))-H bonds of a broad range of aliphatic carboxamides. The resulting olefins can serve as versatile handles for further preparation. Additionally, we also demonstrated the synthesis of functionalized carboxamides bearing alpha-quaternary carbon centers from simple pivalamide via nickel-catalyzed sequential C(sp(3))-H bond functionalization.

Abstract:An iridium(i)-catalyzed hydration/esterification of 2-alkynylphenols and carboxylic acids is described. Various 2-alkynylphenols and carboxylic acids could be used in this process to furnish aromatic ortho-acyloxyketones via a regio- and stereo-selective addition reaction followed by intramolecular rearrangement. This protocol features mild reaction conditions and broad substrate scope. Further transformations were conducted to demonstrate the synthetic application.

Abstract:We report here an iridium-catalyzed hydroalkynylation of allylic alcohols protected by an oxime group. Catalytic alkynylation occurs exclusively at the distal position of the alkene. This method generates γ-alkynyl alcohol oximes directly from internal alkenes and terminal alkynes. The oxime group can be readily removed to afford a free alcohol, thus providing an indirect route for the catalytic hydroalkynylation of allylic alcohols.

Abstract:A general synthesis of β-methylated secondary alcohols via tandem α-methylation/transfer hydrogenation from non-methylated ketones with methanol by a Cp*Ir complex [Cp*Ir(2,2′-bpyO)(OH)]Na with a bipyridine-based functional ligand was reported. Remarkably, β-methylated secondary alcohols can be obtained under milder reaction conditions using methanol as the methylating agent (C1 source) by employing this catalytic system. A wide range of structurally diverse ketones bearing different functional groups was methylated and hydrogenated with excellent toleration in fair to high yields. This method provides a readily available and highly efficient route to β-methylated secondary alcohols using methanol.

Abstract:A novel iridium-catalyzed hydroxyl-enabled cycloaddition of azides and alkynes has been developed. In the presence of catalytic amount (2 mol%) of [Ir(cod)Cl](2), the 2-alkynyl phenols would engage in a regioselective cycloaddition with various azides for rapid access to diverse triazoles, and the hydroxyl group acts as directing group to enable this reaction. The process is featured mild and biocompatible reaction condition with the achievement of brevity and diversity. Furthermore, the hydroxyl group offers ample opportunity for late-stage divergent transformations of the products.

Abstract:Due to the lower LUMO energy level at β-position of α,β-unsaturated-β-trifluoromethyl enone than its non-fluorinated counterpart, there is a challenge to activate the sp2 C–H bond of aromatic ring. Herein, we have reported an Iridium(III) catalyzed β-trifluoromethyl enone carbonyl directed regio-selective aromatic C(sp2)-H olefination with acrylates under oxidative condition. Abstract:Transition-metal-catalyzed asymmetric hydroalkenylation of alkenes provides an atom-economical method to build molecular complexity from easily available materials. Herein we report an iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydroalkenylation of unconjugated alkenes with acrylamides and acrylates. The catalytic hydroalkenylation of norbornene derivatives occurred to form products with allylic stereocenters with high chemo-, regio-, and stereoselectivities. DFT calculations revealed that the migratory insertion is irreversible and the enantiodetermination step.
