Abstract:Boesch’s theorem says that “Suppose that a connected graph G has two non-adjacent 2-degree vertices u1 and u2. Then t(G)≤t(G/{u1,u2}), where t(G) is the number of spanning trees of G.” In this paper, we generalize this theorem as follows: “Suppose that G is a connected graph of order at least 3, and that u1 and u2 are two vertices of degree m and n, respectively, in G. Then t(G)≤mn−m02m+n−2m0t(G/{u1,u2}), where m0(≥0) is the number of multiple edges between u1 and u2.”

Abstract:In 1970,R.L.Graham asked if the following is true: Let A be a finite sequence of n different positive integers a_i,1≤i≤n.Then(max)i,ja_i(a_i,a_j)≥n.Many number theorists have studied the problem.In 1996,this old conjecture though long and complicated,was proved correct in an outstandingly original by Balasubramanian and Soundararajan.Recently,Granville and Roesler conjectured that the largest element of the set agcd(a,b),bgcd(a,b),a∈A,b∈B is≥min(|A|,(|B|)),which generalizes Graham's conjecture.In this paper the conjecture is verified when both A and B have a prime.

Abstract:Let A be a subset of an abelian group G. For integers h,r≥1 the generalized h-fold sumset, denoted by h(r)A, is the set of sums of h elements of A, where each element appears in the sum at most r times. If G=Z, lower bounds for |h(r)A| are known, as well as the structure of the sets of integers for which |h(r)A| is minimal. In this paper, we generalize this result by giving a lower bound for |h(r)A| when G=Z/pZ for a prime p, and show new proofs for the direct and inverse problems in Z.

Abstract:Let p be an odd prime. In this paper, analogs of Wilson?s and Wolstenholme?s theorems on the solution sets S+ = {n ? Z* p | n ? a + b ? ab (mod p)} and S? = {n ? Z* p | n ? a ? b ? ab (mod p)} are given, where Z* p denote a reduced residue system modulo p. We also establish congruences about sum and product of the quadratic residues in S+ or in S? modulo p. Finally, we raise a problem on how to solve Hadamard?s conjecture in the last section.

Suppose that the restricted sumsetC={α+b: α ∈A, b ∈B, and α − b ∉S} is nonempty and somec∈C can be written asa+b witha∈A andb∈B in at mostm ways. We show that ifG is torsion-free or elementary abelian, then |C|≥|A|+|B|−|S|−m. We also prove that |C|≥|A|+|B|−2|S|−m if the torsion subgroup ofG is cyclic. In the caseS={0} this provides an advance on a conjecture of Lev.

Abstract:Let A={a_s(mod n_s)}_{s=0}^k be a system of residue classes. With the help of cyclotomic fields we obtain a theorem which unifies several previously known results concerning system A. In particular, we show that if every integer lies in more than m=[sum_{s=1}^k 1/n_s] members of A, then for any a=0,1,2,... there are at least binom{m}{[a/n_0]} subsets I of {1,...,k} with sum_{s in I}1/n_s=a/n_0. We also characterize when any integer lies in at most m members of A, where m is a fixed positive integer.

Abstract:Let Zp = Z/pZ stand for the field of all residue classes modulo prime p. In 1964 P. Erdös and H. Heilbronn (cf. [EH] and [Gu]) conjectured that for each nonempty subset A of Zp there are at least min{p, 2|A| − 3} residue classes modulo p that can be written as the sum of two distinct elements of A. This had been open for thirty years until J. A. Dias da Silva and Y. O. Hamidoune ([DH]) proved the following result with the help of the representation theory of symmetric groups.

Abstract:The distribution of cardinalities of zero-sum sets in abelian groups is completely determined. A complex summation involving the Möbius function is given for the general abelian group, while in many special cases, including the case of elementary abelian groups, solved earlier by Li and Wan, it has a compact form. The proof involves two different Möbius transforms, on positive integers and on set partitions.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a finitely $\mathbb{N}$-graded algebra over a Noetherian ring. In this paper we study the asymptotic behaviour of the so called $v$-number $\mathrm{w}_P(J^{\underline{n}}M/I^{\underline{n}}N)$ as function of $\underline{n}$ where $N\subset M$ are finitely generated $R$-modules, and $I_1\subset J_1,\dots,I_r\subset J_r$ are homogeneous ideals. We prove that $\mathrm{w}_P(M/I^{\underline{n}}N)$ and $\mathrm{w}_P(I^{\underline{n}}M/I^{\underline{n}+\underline{1}}N)$ are eventually the minimum of $r$ liner functions.

Abstract:The main purpose of the paper is to establish new tools in the study of $\mathcal{O}^\mathfrak{p}$. We introduce the Jantzen coefficients of generalized Verma modules. It comes from the Jantzen's simplicity criteria for generalized Verma modules and has a deep relation with the structure of $\mathcal{O}^\mathfrak{p}$. We develop a reduction process to compute those coefficients. For which we need to consider generalized Verma modules induced from maximal parabolic subalgebras having maximal nontrivial singularity, so called basic generalized Verma modules. The classification of such modules is obtained in this paper. As the first application of our results, we give a refinement of Jantzen's simplicity criteria.

Abstract:We introduce and study a new class of generalized inverses in rings. An element a in a ring R has generalized Zhou inverse if there exists <math>b∈R</math> such that <math>bab=b,b∈comm2(a),an−ab∈J(R)</math> for some <math>n∈N.</math> We prove that <math>a∈R</math> has generalized Zhou inverse if and only if there exists <math>p=p2∈comm2(a)</math> such that <math>an−p∈J(R)</math> for some <math>n∈N.</math> Cline's formula and Jacobson's lemma for generalized Zhou inverses are established. In particular, the Zhou inverse in a ring is characterized.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite abeilian group. A sequence $S$ with terms from $G$ is zero-sum if the sum of terms in $S$ equals zero. It is a minimal zero-sum sequence if no proper, nontrivial subsequence is zero-sum. The maximal length of a minimal zero-sum subsequence in $G$ is the Davenport constant, denoted $D(G)$. For a rank 2 group $G=C_n \oplus C_n$, it is known that $D(G)=2n-1$. However, the structure of all maximal length minimal zero-sum sequences remains open. If every such sequence contains a term with multiplicity $n-1$, then $C_n \oplus C_n$ is said to have Property B, and it is conjectured that this is true for all rank 2 groups $C_n \oplus C_n$. In this paper, we show that Property B is multiplicative, namely, if $G=C_n \oplus C_n$ and $G=C_m \oplus C_m$ both satisfy Property B, with $m, n\geq 3$ odd and $mn>9$, then $C_{mn}\oplus C_{mn}$ satisfies Property B also. Combined with previous work in the literature, this reduces the question of establishing Property B to the prime cases, and in such case the complete structural description of the sequence follows.

A generalization of a result on the sum of element orders of a finite group

Abstract:Let G be a finite group and let ψ(G) denote the sum of element orders of G. It is well-known that the maximum value of φ on the set of groups of order n, where n is a positive integer, will occur at the cyclic group Cn. For nilpotent groups, we prove a natural generalization of this result, obtained by replacing the element orders of G with the element orders relative to a certain subgroup H of G. Abstract:Let a and m>0 be integers. We show that for any integer b relatively prime to m, the set {a^n+bn: n=1,…,m^2} contains a complete system of residues modulo m. We also pose several conjectures for further research; for example, we conjecture that any integer n>1 can be written as k+m with 2^k+m prime, where k and m are positive integers.

The zero-sum problem for G asks for the least positive integer k such that for any a1, · · · , ak ∈ G there is an I ⊆ {1, · · · , k} of required cardinality satisfying ∑ i∈I ai = 0. In this talk we will introduce the famous theorem of P. Erdős, A. Ginzburg and A. Ziv (for G = Zn), and recent results of L. Rónya on the Kemnitz conjecture concerning the group Zn ⊕Zn, where Zn = Z/nZ is the additive cyclic group of residue classes modulo n. 1. The Erdős-Ginzburg-Ziv Theorem In 1961 P. Erdős, A. Ginzburg and A. Ziv [Bull. Research Council Israel, 10(1961)] established the following celebrated theorem. EGZ Theorem. Let n be any positive integer, and S = {ai} i=1 be a sequence of integers. Then there is an I ⊆ {1, · · · , 2n − 1} with |I| = n such that ∑ i∈I ai ≡ 0 (mod n). This can be viewed as the first nontrivial result on zero-sum problems. Let G be a finite additive abelian group. Abstract:Let S⊆N be a numerical semigroup with multiplicity m=min(S∖{0}) and conductor c=max(Z∖S)+1 . Let P be the set of primitive elements, i.e. minimal generators, of S, and let L be the set of elements of S which are smaller than c. Wilf's conjecture (1978) states that the inequality |P||L|≥c must hold. The conjecture has been shown to hold in case |P|≥m/2 by Sammartano in 2012, and subsequently in case |P|≥m/3 by the author in 2020. The main result in this paper is that Wilf's conjecture holds in case |P|≥m/4 when m divides c. The proof uses divsets X, i.e. finite divisor-closed sets of monomials, as abstract models of numerical semigroups, and proceeds with estimates of the vertex-maximal matching number of the associated graph G(X) .
