Abstract:Boesch’s theorem says that “Suppose that a connected graph G has two non-adjacent 2-degree vertices u1 and u2. Then t(G)≤t(G/{u1,u2}), where t(G) is the number of spanning trees of G.” In this paper, we generalize this theorem as follows: “Suppose that G is a connected graph of order at least 3, and that u1 and u2 are two vertices of degree m and n, respectively, in G. Then t(G)≤mn−m02m+n−2m0t(G/{u1,u2}), where m0(≥0) is the number of multiple edges between u1 and u2.”

Abstract:In 1970,R.L.Graham asked if the following is true: Let A be a finite sequence of n different positive integers a_i,1≤i≤n.Then(max)i,ja_i(a_i,a_j)≥n.Many number theorists have studied the problem.In 1996,this old conjecture though long and complicated,was proved correct in an outstandingly original by Balasubramanian and Soundararajan.Recently,Granville and Roesler conjectured that the largest element of the set agcd(a,b),bgcd(a,b),a∈A,b∈B is≥min(|A|,(|B|)),which generalizes Graham's conjecture.In this paper the conjecture is verified when both A and B have a prime.

On the Generalization of Weinberger's Inequality with Alternating Signs

Abstract:For given set of $m$ positive numbers satisfying the conditions: $$ a_1 \geq a_2 \geq , ... \geq a_m \geq 0, $$ the inequality $$ \sum_{s=1}^{m} (-1)^{s-1}a^r_s \geq \left[ \sum_{s=1}^{m} (-1)^{s-1}a_s\right]^r, \quad r > 1, $$ was proved by H. Weinberger. The generalization of Weinberger's result takes the form $$ \sum_{s=1}^{m} (-1)^{s-1}f(a_s) \geq f\left( \sum_{s=1}^{m} (-1)^{s-1}a_s\right), $$ where $f$ is a convex function satisfying the condition $f(0)\leq 0 $. The condition $f(0)\geq 0 $ in the generalization proposed by Bellman was corrected by Olkin as $f(0) \leq 0 $. Bellman gave only a graphical proof for differentiable convex functions. In this paper, we give a mathematical proof for the generalized inequality including the importance of the condition $f(0)\leq 0$. We introduce a set $\mathcal{W}$ of functions so that functions in the intersection of $\mathcal{W}$ and the set of all convex functions are the ones that are desirable in the generalization. In addition, we give a proof of Szegö's inequality which applies to sums with odd number of terms.

Abstract: In this paper, we consider some hybrid Diophantine equations of addition and multiplication. We first improve a result on new Hilbert-Waring problem. Then we consider the equation \begin{equation} \begin{cases} A+B=C ABC=D^n \end{cases} \end{equation} where $A,B,C,D,n \in\ZZ_{+}$ and $n\geq3$, which may be regarded as a generalization of Fermat's equation $x^n+y^n=z^n$. When $\gcd(A,B,C)=1$, $(1)$ is equivalent to Fermat's equation, which means it has no positive integer solutions. We discuss several cases for $\gcd(A,B,C)=p^k$ where $p$ is an odd prime. In particular, for $k=1$ we prove that $(1)$ has no nonzero integer solutions when $n=3$ and we conjecture that it is also true for any prime $n>3$. Finally, we consider equation $(1)$ in quadratic fields $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{t})$ for $n=3$.

Abstract:In this paper, we obtain sharp estimates for the number of lattice points under and near the dilation of a general parabola, the former generalizing an old result of Popov. We apply Vaaler's lemma and the Erdős-Turan inequality to reduce the two underlying counting problems to mean values of a certain quadratic exponential sums, whose treatment is subject to classical analytic techniques.

Abstract:We generalize the well-known Gauchman theorem for closed minimal submanifolds in a unit sphere, and prove that if M is an n-dimensional closed submanifold of parallel mean curvature in Sn+p and if or (u) <= 1/3 for any unit vector u is an element of TM, where sigma (u) = parallel to h(u, u)parallel to(2), and h is the second fundamental form of M, then either sigma (u) equivalent to H-2 and M is a totally umbilical sphere, or sigma (u) equivalent to 1/3. Moreover, we give a geometrical classification of closed submanifolds with parallel mean curvature satisfying sigma (u) equivalent to 1/3.

Abstract:Grünbaum's inequality gives sharp bounds between the volume of a convex body and its part cut off by a hyperplane through the centroid of the body. We provide a generalization of this inequality for hyperplanes that do not necessarily contain the centroid. As an application, we obtain a sharp inequality that compares sections of a convex body to the maximal section parallel to it.

Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we establish some results around generalized Borel's Theorem. As an application, in the second part, we construct example of smooth surface of degree $d\geq 19$ in $\mathbb{CP}^3$ whose complements is hyperbolically embedded in $\mathbb{CP}^3$. This improves the previous construction of Shirosaki where the degree bound $d=31$ was gave. In the last part, for a Fermat-Waring type hypersurface $D$ in $\mathbb{CP}^n$ defined by the homogeneous polynomial \[ \sum_{i=1}^m h_i^d, \] where $m,n,d$ are positive integers with $m\geq 3n-1$ and $d\geq m^2-m+1$, where $h_i$ are homogeneous generic linear forms on $\mathbb{C}^{n+1}$, for a nonconstant holomorphic function $f\colon\mathbb{C}\rightarrow\mathbb{CP}^n$ whose image is not contained in the support of $D$, we establish a Second Main Theorem type estimate: \[ \big(d-m(m-1)\big)\,T_f(r)\leq N_f^{[m-1]}(r,D)+S_f(r). \] This quantifies the hyperbolicity result due to Shiffman-Zaidenberg and Siu-Yeung.

In this paper, we will generalize this problem by using congruent theory and combinatorial methods, and we get some curious congruences.

A Matrix Generalization of the Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya Rearrangement Inequality and Its Applications

Abstract:We prove a generalization of the Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya rearrangement inequality to positive definite matrices. The inequality can be seen as a commutation principle in the sense of Iusem and Seeger. An important instrument in the proof is a first-order perturbation formula for a certain spectral function, which could be of independent interests. The inequality is then extended to rectangular matrices. Using our main results, we derive new inequalities for several distance-like functions encountered in various signal processing or machine learning applications.

Abstract:A well-known theorem of Baer states that in a given group G, the (n+1)$$ (n+1) $$th term of the lower central series of G is finite when the index of the nth term of the upper central series is finite. Recently, Kurdachenko and Otal proved a similar statement for this theorem when the upper hypercenter factor of a locally generalized radical group has finite special rank. In this paper, we first decrease the Ellis’ bound obtained for the order of γn+1(G).$$\gamma _{n+1}(G).$$ Then we extend Kurdachenko’s result for locally generalized radical groups. Moreover, some new upper bounds for the special rank of γn+1(G,A)$$ \gamma _{n+1}(G,A) $$ are also given, where A is a subgroup of automorphisms of G which contains inner automorphisms of G.

Abstract:Let M-n (n >= 3) be an n-dimensional complete submanifold with parallel mean curvature in Rn+P. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form of M, respectively. By using a direct method, we prove that if integral(M)(S - nH(2))(n/2)dM < C(n), where C(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n, then S = nH(2), i.e., M-n is a totally umbilical submanifold. In particular, if H = 0, then M = R-n; if H not equal 0, then M = S-n (1/H). It improves the gap theorems proposed by Lei Ni and Xu.
