On A^n+bn Modulo M

Abstract:Let a and m>0 be integers. We show that for any integer b relatively prime to m, the set {a^n+bn: n=1,…,m^2} contains a complete system of residues modulo m. We also pose several conjectures for further research; for example, we conjecture that any integer n>1 can be written as k+m with 2^k+m prime, where k and m are positive integers.

Abstract:Let A={a_s(mod n_s)}_{s=0}^k be a system of residue classes. With the help of cyclotomic fields we obtain a theorem which unifies several previously known results concerning system A. In particular, we show that if every integer lies in more than m=[sum_{s=1}^k 1/n_s] members of A, then for any a=0,1,2,... there are at least binom{m}{[a/n_0]} subsets I of {1,...,k} with sum_{s in I}1/n_s=a/n_0. We also characterize when any integer lies in at most m members of A, where m is a fixed positive integer.

Abstract:Let p be an odd prime. In this paper, analogs of Wilson?s and Wolstenholme?s theorems on the solution sets S+ = {n ? Z* p | n ? a + b ? ab (mod p)} and S? = {n ? Z* p | n ? a ? b ? ab (mod p)} are given, where Z* p denote a reduced residue system modulo p. We also establish congruences about sum and product of the quadratic residues in S+ or in S? modulo p. Finally, we raise a problem on how to solve Hadamard?s conjecture in the last section.

Abstract:In this paper we study [nr]m = Σk≡r(mod m) (nk) where m > 0, n ≥ 0 and r are integers. We show that [nr]m (m > 2) can be expressed in terms of some linearly recurrent sequences with orders not exceeding φ⋊(m)/2. In particular, we determine [nr]12 explicitly in terms of first order and second order recurrences. It follows that for any prime p > 3 we have 2p - 1-1/p≡2(-1)(p-1)/2Σ1≤k≤(p+1)/6(-1) k/2k - 1 (mod p) and Σ0<k<p/23k/k≡Σ0<k<p/6 (-1)k/k (mod p).

Abstract:AbstractLet 𝒜={as(mod ns)}ks=0 be a system of residue classes. With the help of cyclotomic fields we obtain a theorem which unifies several previously known results related to the covering multiplicity of 𝒜. In particular, we show that if every integer lies in more than m0=⌊∑ ks=11/ns⌋ members of 𝒜, then for any a=0,1,2,… there are at least ${m_0\choose \lfloor a/n_0\rfloor }$ subsets I of {1,…,k} with ∑ s∈I1/ns=a/n0. We also characterize when any integer lies in at most m members of 𝒜, where m is a fixed positive integer.

Abstract:In 1956, Je$\acute{s}$manowicz conjectured that, for positive integers $m$ and $n$ with $m>n, \, \gcd(m,\, n)=1$ and $m\not\equiv n\pmod{2}$, the exponential Diophantine equation $(m^2-n^2)^x+(2mn)^y=(m^2+n^2)^z$ has only the positive integer solution $(x,\,y,\, z)=(2,\,2,\,2)$. Recently, Ma and Chen \cite{MC17} proved the conjecture if $4\not|mn$ and $y\ge2$. In this paper, we present an elementary proof of the result of Ma and Chen \cite{MC17}.

Abstract:In this paper we construct a cover a_s(mod n_s)_s=1^k of Z with oddmoduli such that there are distinct primes p_1,...,p_k dividing2^n_1-1,...,2^n_k-1 respectively. Using this cover we show that for anypositive integer m divisible by none of 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 there exists aninfinite arithmetic progression of positive odd integers the m-th powers ofwhose terms are never of the form 2^n± p^a with p a prime and a,n in0,1,2,.... We also construct another cover of Z with odd moduli and use it toprove that x^2-F_3n/2 has at least two distinct prime factors whenever n isa nonnegative integer and x=a (mod M), where F_i_i≥0 is the Fibonaccisequence, and a and M are suitable positive integers having 80 decimal digits.

Abstract:Let m > 0 and q > 1 be relatively prime integers. We find an explicit period ν m (q) such that for any integers n 0 and r we have n + ν m (q) r m (a) ≡ n r m (a) (mod q), provided that a = −1 and n = 0, or a is an integer with 1 − (−a) m relatively prime to q, where n r m (a) = k≡r (mod m) n k a k. This is a further extension of a congruence of Glaisher.

Abstract:J.P. Serre showed that for any integer $m,~a(n)\equiv 0 \pmod m$ for almost all $n,$ where $a(n)$ is the $n^{\text{th}}$ Fourier coefficient of any modular form with rational coefficients. In this article, we consider a certain class of cuspforms and study $\#\{a(n) \pmod m\}_{n\leq x}$ over the set of integers with $O(1)$ many prime factors. Moreover, we show that any residue class $a\in \mathbb{Z}/m\mathbb{Z}$ can be written as the sum of at most thirteen Fourier coefficients, which are polynomially bounded as a function of $m.$

Abstract:In this paper we study mixed sums of primes and linear recurrences. We show that if m=2(mod 4) and m+1 is a prime then $(m^{2^n-1}-1)/(m-1)\not=m^n+p^a$ for any n=3,4,... and prime power p^a. We also prove that if a>1 is an integer, u_0=0, u_1=1 and u_{i+1}=au_i+u_{i-1} for i=1,2,3,..., then all the sums u_m+au_n (m,n=1,2,3,...) are distinct. One of our conjectures states that any integer n>4 can be written as the sum of an odd prime, an odd Fibonacci number and a positive Fibonacci number.

Abstract:By some extremely simple arguments, we point out the following:(i)If n is the least positive kth power non-residue modulo a positive integer m, then the greatest number of consecutive kth power residues modm is smaller than m/n.(ii)Let OK be the ring of algebraic integers in a quadratic field K=Q(d) with d∈{−1,−2,−3,−7,−11}. Then, for any irreducible π∈OK and positive integer k not relatively prime to ππ¯−1, there exists a kth power non-residue ω∈OK modulo π such that |ω|<|π|+0.65.
