Abstract:Abstract We show that the following properties are preserved under inverse limits: countable fan-tightness, q + , discrete generation and selective separability. We also present several examples based on inverse limits of countable spaces.

Abstract:In this paper we get characterizations countable tightness, countable fan-tightness and countable strong fan-tightness of spaces of quasicontinuous functions with the topology of pointwise convergence from a open Whyburn $T_2$-space $X$ into the discrete two-point space $\{0, 1\}$ through properties of $X$ determined by selection principles. These properties (e.g. $S_1(K, K)$, $K_{\Omega}$-Lindelofness, $S_1(K_{\Omega}, K_{\Omega})$) were defined by M. Scheepers and studied in theory of selection principles in the class of metric spaces. For any cardinal number $\kappa$, we get a functional characterization of $\kappa^+$-Lusin space in class of separable metrizable spaces through tightness of compact subsets of a space of quasicontinuous real-valued functions with the topology of pointwise convergence.

Abstract:In this article we propose a conception of mixed limits of functional spaces as the case, when the upper limit (projective limit of inductive limits) and the lower limit (inductive limit of projective limits) coincide as topological spaces, which are generalization of inductive and projective limits of functional spaces. We show a cases where these mixed limits are naturally obtained as the limit spaces of non-commutative $L_p$-type spaces associated with the sequence of operators. Also, we obtain results on the properties of limit spaces, we show that limit spaces of Banach algebras are (LF)-spaces, if they converge.

Abstract:In [11], Mioduszewski characterized inverse sequences of polyhedra for which their inverse limits are homeomorphic. In this article, we obtain a more general characterization: we characterize inverse sequences of arbitrary compact metric spaces and continuous single-valued functions for which their inverse limits are homeomorphic. In our approach, set-valued functions are used instead of continuous single-valued functions in almost commutative diagrams. Using this characterization we give an alternative proof that the Brouwer-Janiszewski-Knaster continuum and the pseudo-arc are circle-like continua.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the compactifications of some topological spaces such that their remainders have countable tightness. We also study addition theorems for compacta. The main results are: (1) If bX is a compactification of a first-countable space X with a Gδ-diagonal (or a space X with a point-countable base) and bX∖X has countable tightness, then both bX and bX∖X have countable fan-tightness; (2) If a non-locally compact paratopological group G has a compactification bG such that the remainder bG∖G is the union of a finite family of metrizable subspaces, then G is locally separable and locally metrizable; (3) If a compact Hausdorff space Z=X∪Y, where X is a non-locally compact topological group which is a σ-space and dense in Z, and Y is a semitopological group, then Z is separable and metrizable; (4) If a compact Hausdorff space Z=X∪Y, where X is a non-locally compact paratopological group that has a countable network and is dense in Z, and Y is a semitopological group, then Z is separable and metrizable. Among them (2) and (3) improve the corresponding results given by A.V. Arhangel'skii in [7].

Abstract:We find universal spaces for Alexandroff and finite spaces and explore some of its topological properties as well as their description as inverse limits of finite spaces and Alexandroff extensions. They can be used as a natural environment to describe shape properties of compact metric spaces.

Abstract:The authors' primary goal in this paper is to enhance the study of topological spaces by using the order of specialization of a -space to introduce the lower topology (with a subbasis of closed sets ) and studying the interaction of the original topology and the lower topology. Using the lower topology, one can define and study new properties of the original space that provide deeper insight into its structure. One focus of study is the property R, which asserts that if the intersection of a family of finitely generated sets , finite, is contained in an open set , then the same is true for finitely many of the family. We first show that property R is equivalent to several other interesting properties, for example, the property that all closed subsets of the original space are compact in the lower topology. We then find conditions under which these spaces are compact, well-filtered, and coherent, a weaker variant of stably compact spaces. We also investigate what have been called strong -spaces, develop some of their basic properties, and make connections with the earlier considerations involving spaces satisfying property R. Two key results we obtain are that if a dcpo with the Scott topology is a strong -space, then it is well-filtered, and if additionally the Scott topology of the product is the product of the Scott topologies of the factors, then the Scott space of is sober. We also exhibit connections of this work with de Groot duality.

Abstract:De Finetti theorems tell us that if we expect the likelihood of outcomes to be independent of their order, then these sequences of outcomes could be equivalently generated by drawing an experiment at random from a distribution, and repeating it over and over. In particular, the quantum de Finetti theorem says that exchangeable sequences of quantum states are always represented by distributions over a single state produced over and over. The main result of this paper is that this quantum de Finetti construction has a universal property as a categorical limit. This allows us to pass canonically between categorical treatments of finite dimensional quantum theory and the infinite dimensional. The treatment here is through understanding properties of (co)limits with respect to the contravariant functor which takes a C*-algebra describing a physical system to its convex, compact space of states, and through discussion of the Radon probability monad. We also show that the same categorical analysis also justifies a continuous de Finetti theorem for classical probability.

Nonvanishing derived limits without scales

Abstract:The derived functors $\lim^n$ of the inverse limit are widely studied for their topological applications, among which are some repercussions on the additivity of strong homology. Set theory has proven useful in dealing with these functors, for instance in the case of the inverse system $\mathbf{A}$ of abelian groups indexed by ${}^\omega \omega$. So far, consistency results for nonvanishing derived limits of $\mathbf{A}$ have always assumed the existence of a scale (i.e. a linear cofinal subset of $({}^\omega \omega, \leq^\ast )$, or equivalently that $\mathfrak{b} = \mathfrak{d} $). Here we do away with that assumption and prove that nonvanishing derived limits, and hence the non-additivity of strong homology, are consistent with any value of $\aleph_1 \leq \mathfrak{b} \leq \mathfrak{d} < \aleph_\omega$, thus giving a partial answer to a question of Bannister.

Abstract:We explain how to see finite combinatorics of preorders implicit in the {text} of basic topological definitions or arguments in (Bourbaki, General topology, Ch.I), and define a concise combinatorial notation such that complete definitions of connectedness, compactness, contractibility, having a generic point, subspace, closed subspace, fit into $2$ or $4$ bytes. This notation is homotopy theoretic in nature, and is based on the following observation: A number of basic properties of continuous maps and topological spaces are defined using a single category-theoretic operation, taking left or right orthogonal complement with respect to the Quillen lifting property, repeatedly applied to a simple example illustrating the definition or its failure. Moreover, for most of these definitions this example can be chosen to be a map of finite topological spaces (=preorders) of size at most $5$. This includes the properties of a space being connected, compact, contractible, discrete, having a generic point, and a map having dense image, being the inclusion of an (open or closed) subspace, or of a component into a disjoint union, and others. Our reformulations illustrate the generative power of the lifting property as a means of defining basic mathematical properties starting from their simplest or typical example. The exposition is accessible to a student.

Abstract:We describe the framework for the notion of a restricted inverse limit of categories, with the main motivating example being the category of polynomial representations of the group $GL_{\infty}$. This category is also known as the category of strict polynomial functors of finite degree, and it is the restricted inverse limit of the categories of polynomial representations of $GL_n$. This note is meant to serve as a reference for future work.

Abstract:We define several notions of a limit point on sequences with domain a barrier in $[\omega]^{<\omega}$ focusing on the two dimensional case $[\omega]^2$. By exploring some natural candidates, we show that countable compactness has a number of generalizations in terms of limits of high dimensional sequences and define a particular notion of $\alpha$-countable compactness for $\alpha\leq\omega_1$. We then focus on dimension 2 and compare 2-countable compactness with notions previously studied in the literature. We present a number of counterexamples showing that these classes are different. In particular assuming the existence of a Ramsey ultrafilter, a subspace of $\beta\omega$ which is doubly countably compact whose square is not countably compact, answering a question of T. Banakh, S. Dimitrova and O. Gutik. The analysis of this construction leads to some possibly new types of ultrafilters related to discrete, P-points and Ramsey ultrafilters.

Cardinal Properties of the Space of Quasicontinuous Functions under Topology of Uniform Convergence on Compact Subsets

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate various cardinal properties of the space $Q_{C}X$ of all real-valued quasicontinuous functions on the topological space $X$, under the topology of uniform convergence on compact subsets. It begins by examining the relationship between tightness and other properties in the context of the space $X$, highlighting results such as the alignment of tightness $Q_{C}X$ with the compact Lindelöf number of $X$ under Hausdorff conditions and the countable tightness of $Q_{C}X$ when $X$ is second countable. Further investigations reveal conditions for the tightness of $Q_{C}X$ relative to $k$-covers of $X$, as well as connections between density tightness, fan tightness, and other properties in Hausdorff spaces. Additionally, we discuss the implications of the Frechet-Urysohn property $Q_{C}X$ for open $k$-covers in Hausdorff spaces. We explore relationships between $Q_{C}X$'s tightness, the Frechet-Urysohn property, and the $\sigma$-compactness of locally compact Hausdorff spaces $X$. Furthermore, we examine the $k_{f}$-covering property and the existence of $k$-covers in the context of Whyburn spaces.

Finite-index phenomena and the topology of bundle singularities

Abstract:A classical branched cover is an open surjection of compact Hausdorff spaces with uniformly bounded finite fibers and analogously, a quantum branched cover is a unital $C^*$ embedding admitting a finite-index expectation. We show that whenever a compact Hausdorff space $Z$ contains a one-point compactification of an uncountable set, the incidence correspondence attached to the space of cardinality-$(\le n)$ subsets of $Z$ (for $n\ge 3$) is a classical branched cover that does not dualize to a quantum one. In particular, when $Z$ is dyadic, the resulting $C^*$ embeddings are quantum branched covers precisely when $Z$ is also metrizable. This provides a partial converse to an earlier result of the author's (to the effect that continuous, unital, subhomogeneous $C^*$ bundles over compact metrizable spaces are quantum branched) and settles negatively a question of Blanchard-Gogić. There are also some positive results identifying classes of compact Hausdorff spaces (e.g. extremally disconnected or orderable) with the property that all (continuous, unital) $C^*$ bundles based thereon are quantum branched.

Abstract:We show that the notion of $(\infty,n)$-limit defined using the enriched approach and the one defined using the internal approach coincide. We also give explicit constructions of various double $(\infty,n-1)$-categories implementing various join constructions, slice constructions and cone constructions, and study their properties. Abstract:We give a necessary and sufficient condition for an inverse sequence $S_0 \leftarrow S_1 \leftarrow \dots$ indexed by natural numbers to have ${\rm lim}^1S=0$. This condition can be treated as a transfinite version of the Mittag-Leffler condition. We consider inverse sequences in an arbitrary abelian category having a generator and satisfying Grothendieck axioms ${\rm (AB3)}$ and ${\rm (AB4^*)}.$ We also show that the class of inverse sequences $S$ such that ${\rm lim}\: S={\rm lim}^1 S=0$ is the least class of inverse sequences containing the trivial inverse sequence and closed with respect to small limits and a certain type of extensions.
