Abstract:In this paper, uniform convergence on compacta is studied on the space of functions taking values in the set of finite Borel measures. Related limit theorems, including Lévy's continuity theorem and functional limit theorems for (classical and non-commutative) additive processes, are also described.

Abstract:The famous Antosik-Mikusinski convergent theorem on the Abel topological groups has very extensive applications in measure theory, summation theory and other analysis fields. In this paper, we establish the theorem on a class of effect algebras equipped with the ideal topology. This paper shows also that the ideal topology of effect algebras is a useful topology in studying the quantum logic theory.

Abstract:Topological measures and deficient topological measures are defined on open and closed subsets of a topological space, generalize regular Borel measures, and correspond to (non-linear in general) functionals that are linear on singly generated subalgebras or singly generated cones of functions. They lack subadditivity, and many standard techniques of measure theory and functional analysis do not apply to them. Nevertheless, we show that many classical results of probability theory hold for topological and deficient topological measures. In particular, we prove a version of Aleksandrov's Theorem for equivalent definitions of weak convergence of deficient topological measures. We also prove a version of Prokhorov's Theorem which relates the existence of a weakly convergent subsequence in any sequence in a family of topological measures to the characteristics of being a uniformly bounded in variation and uniformly tight family. We define Prokhorov and Kantorovich-Rubenstein metrics and show that convergence in either of them implies weak convergence of (deficient) topological measures on metric spaces. We also generalize many known results about various dense and nowhere dense subsets of deficient topological measures. The present paper constitutes a first step to further research in probability theory and its applications in the context of topological measures and corresponding non-linear functionals.

Abstract:In the study by Papanastassiou and Papachristodoulos, 2009 the notion of 𝑝-convergence in measure was introduced. In a natural way 𝑝-convergence in measure induces an equivalence relation on the space 𝑀 of all sequences of measurable functions converging in measure to zero. We show that the quotient space ℳ is a complete but not compact metric space.

Abstract:This expository note aims at illustrating weak convergence of probability measures from a broader view than a previously published paper. Though the results are standard for functional analysts, this approach is rarely known by statisticians and our presentation gives an alternative view to most standard probability textbooks. In particular, this functional approach clarifies the underlying topological structure of weak convergence. We hope this short note is helpful for those who are interested in weak convergence as well as instructors of measure theoretic probability.

Abstract:Certain notions of convergence of sequences of functions such as convergence pointwise, uniform and parts (compact sets or bounded sets) come from suitable topological functional spaces [1]. Under certain conditions these topologies involved are metrizable, which in an advantage since there is an extensive theory on convergence in metric spaces. However, the case of pointwise convergence is delicate, since it is shown that under certain hypothesis this form of convergence of sequences of functions is not equivalent to convergence in metric.

Abstract:We study a summability method called almost convergence for bounded measurable functions defined on a locally compact abelian group. We define almost convergence using topologically invariant means and exhibit two different kinds of necessary and sufficient conditions, one is analytic and the other is functional analytic, for a given function to be almost convergent. As an application, we show complex Tauberian theorems for almost convergence on the integers and the real numbers. In particular, the latter one can be viewed as an analogue of the Wiener-Ikehara theorem.

Abstract:The Lebesgue dominated convergence theorem of the measure theory implies that the Riemann integral of a bounded sequence of continuous functions over the interval [ 0,1] pointwise converging to zero, also converges to zero. The validity of this result is independent of measure theory, on the other hand, this result together with only elementary functional analysis, can generate measure theory itself. The mentioned result was also known before the appearance of measure theory, but the original proof was very complicated. For this reason this result, when presented in teaching, is generally obtained based on measure theory. Later, Eberlein gave an elementary, but still relatively complicated proof, and there were other simpler proofs but burdened with complicated concepts, like measure theory. In this paper we give a short and elementary proof even for the following strenghened form of the mentioned result: a bounded sequence of continuous functions defined on a compact topological space K pointwise converging to zero, has a suitable convexification converging also uniformly to zero on $K,$ thus, e.g., the original sequence converges weakly to zero in C(K). This fact can also be used in the proof of the Krein-Smulian theorem. The usual proof beyond the simple tools of the functional analysis, uses heavy embedding theorems and the Riesz' representation theorem with the whole apparatus of measure theory. Our main result, however, reduces the cited proof to a form in which we need abstract tools only, namely the Hahn-Banach separation theorem and Alaoglu's theorem, without Riesz' representation or any statement of measure theory.

Abstract:Let X be a Tychonoff topological space, B1(X,R) be the space of real-valued Baire 1 functions on X and τUC be the topology of uniform convergence on compacta. The main purpose of this paper is to study cardinal invariants of (B1(X,R),τUC). We prove that the following conditions are equivalent: (1) (B1(X,R),τUC) is metrizable; (2) (B1(X,R),τUC) is completely metrizable; (3) (B1(X,R),τUC) is Čech-complete; and (4) X is hemicompact. It is also proven that if X is a separable metric space with a non isolated point, then the topology of uniform convergence on compacta on B1(X,R) is seen to behave like a metric topology in the sense that the weight, netweight, density, Lindelof number and cellularity are all equal for this topology and they are equal to c=|B1(X,R)|. We find further conditions on X under which these cardinal invariants coincide on B1(X,R).

Abstract:We study equivalent descriptions of the vague, weak, setwise and total-variation (TV) convergence of sequences of Borel measures on metrizable and non-metrizable topological spaces in this work. On metrizable spaces, we give some equivalent conditions on the vague convergence of sequences of measures following Kallenberg, and some equivalent conditions on the TV convergence of sequences of measures following Feinberg-Kasyanov-Zgurovsky. There is usually some hierarchy structure on the equivalent descriptions of convergence in different modes, but not always. On non-metrizable spaces, we give examples to show that these conditions are seldom enough to guarantee any convergence of sequences of measures. There are some remarks on the attainability of the TV distance and more modes of sequential convergence at the end of the work.

Abstract:We prove that the convergence of a sequence of functions in the space of measurable functions, with respect to the topology of convergence in measure, implies the convergence-almost everywhere ( denotes the Lebesgue measure) of the sequence of rearrangements. We obtain nonexpansivity of rearrangement on the space, and also on Orlicz spaces with respect to a finitely additive extended real-valued set function. In the space and in the space, of finite elements of an Orlicz space of a-additive set function, we introduce some parameters which estimate the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness. We obtain some relations involving these parameters when passing from a bounded set of, or, to the set of rearrangements.

Abstract:This paper conglomerates our findings on the space $C(X)$ of all real valued continuous functions, under different generalizations of the topology of uniform convergence and the $m$-topology. The paper begins with answering all the questions which were left open in our previous paper on the classifications of $Z$-ideals of $C(X)$ induced by the $U_I$ and the $m_I$-topologies on $C(X)$. Motivated by the definition of $m^I$-topology, another generalization of the topology of uniform convergence, called $U^I$-topology, is introduced here. Among several other results, it is established that for a convex ideal $I$, a necessary and sufficient condition for $U^I$-topology to coincide with $m^I$-topology is the boundedness of $X\setminus\bigcap Z[I]$ in $X$. As opposed to the case of the $U_I$-topologies (and $m_I$-topologies), it is proved that each $U^I$-topology (respectively, $m^I$-topology) on $C(X)$ is uniquely determined by the ideal $I$. In the last section, the denseness of the set of units of $C(X)$ in $C_U(X)$ (= $C(X)$ with the topology of uniform convergence) is shown to be equivalent to the strong zero dimensionality of the space $X$. Also, the space $X$ is a weakly P-space if and only if the set of zero divisors (including 0) in $C(X)$ is closed in $C_U(X)$. Computing the closure of $C_\mathscr{P}(X)$ (=$\{f\in C(X):\text{the support of }f\in\mathscr{P}\}$ where $\mathscr{P}$ denotes the ideal of closed sets in $X$) in $C_U(X)$ and $C_m(X)$ (= $C(X)$ with the $m$-topology), the results $cl_UC_\mathscr{P}(X) = C_\infty^\mathscr{P}(X)$ ($=\{f\in C(X):\forall n\in\mathbb{N}, \{x\in X:|f(x)|\geq\frac{1}{n}\}\in\mathscr{P}\}$) and $cl_mC_\mathscr{P}(X)=\{f\in C(X):f.g\in C^\mathscr{P}_\infty(X)\text{ for each }g\in C(X)\}$ are achieved.

Abstract:We consider the space of functions almost in $L_p$ with the topology of asymptotic $L_p$-convergence. We prove that this space forms a completely metrizable topological vector space, which extends the space of measurable functions with the topology of convergence in measure to infinite measure spaces. We investigate classical properties such as dominated convergence, Vitali convergence theorems, and Marcinkiewicz interpolation. For the case where the underlying measure space is $\mathbb{R}^d$, we establish results on approximation by smooth functions, separability, and the boundedness of maximal functions. Additionally, we explore key topological features, such as local boundedness, local convexity, and duality, which fundamentally distinguish these spaces from the standard $L_p$ spaces.

Abstract:We introduce a natural definition of LpL^p-convergence of maps, p≥1p \ge 1, in the case where the domain is a convergent sequence of measured metric space with respect to the measured Gromov-Hausdorff topology and the target is a Gromov-Hausdorff convergent sequence. With the LpL^p-convergence, we establish a theory of variational convergences. We prove that the Poincaré inequality with some additional condition implies the asymptotic compactness. The asymptotic compactness is equivalent to the Gromov-Hausdorff compactness of the energy-sublevel sets. Supposing that the targets are CAT⁡(0)\operatorname {CAT}(0)-spaces, we study convergence of resolvents. As applications, we investigate the approximating energy functional over a measured metric space and convergence of energy functionals with a lower bound of Ricci curvature.

Abstract:The question of establishing measure theory for statistical convergence has been moving closer to center stage, since a kind of reasonable theory is not only fundamental for unifying various kinds of statistical convergence, but also a bridge linking the studies of statistical convergence across measure theory, integration theory, probability and statistics. For this reason, this paper, in terms of subdifferential, first shows a representation theorem for all finitely additive probability measures defined on the σ -algebra of all subsets of N , and proves that every such measure can be uniquely decomposed into a convex combination of a countably additive probability measure and a statistical measure (i.e. a finitely additive probability measure μ with μ ( k ) = 0 for all singletons { k }). This paper also shows that classical statistical measures have many nice properties, such as: The set of all such measures endowed with the topology of point-wise convergence on forms a compact convex Hausdorff space; every classical statistical measure is of continuity type (hence, atomless), and every specific class of statistical measures fits a complementation minimax rule for every subset in N . Finally, this paper shows that every kind of statistical convergence can be unified in convergence of statistical measures.
Metrization of Gromov-Hausdorff-type topologies on boundedly-compact metric spaces

Abstract:We present a new general framework for metrization of Gromov-Hausdorff-type topologies on non-compact metric spaces. We also give easy-to-check conditions for separability and completeness and hence the measure theoretic requirements are provided to study convergence of random spaces with additional random objects. In particular, our framework enables us to define a metric inducing a suitable Gromov-Hausdorff-type topology on the space of rooted boundedly-compact metric spaces with laws of stochastic processes and/or random fields, which was not clear how to do in previous frameworks. In addition to general theory, this paper includes several examples of Gromov-Hausdorff-type topologies, verifying that classical examples such as the Gromov-Hausdorff topology and the Gromov-Hausdorff-Prohorov topology are contained within our framework.
