Abstract:Modular data centers are increasingly being developed instead of using large data centers to save huge amount of capital investment. High energy efficiency is a priority and measures have been taken to increase it. Cooling techniques such as air-side economization and evaporative cooling are proving to be some of those very effective measures. An Information Technology (IT) pod cooled by an indirect/ direct evaporative cooling unit is the prime focus of this paper. CFD modeling helps to resolve cooling problems and predict inefficiencies in modular data centers. For existing data centers, CFD modeling is used to identify the cooling issues and explore various cooling improvements without risking the operation of the data center. In this paper, CFD analysis is performed to study the airflow pattern and temperature distribution inside the modular data center and the cooling unit. Study reveals significant increase in supply temperature due to solar loading on the supply duct.

Abstract:BACKGROUND In patients with isolated syndromes that are clinically suggestive of multiple sclerosis, such as optic neuritis or brain-stem or spinal cord syndromes, the presence of lesions as determined by T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain increases the likelihood that multiple sclerosis will develop. We sought to determine the relation between early lesion volume, changes in volume, and long-term disability. METHODS Seventy-one patients in a serial MRI study of patients with isolated syndromes were reassessed after a mean of 14.1 years. Disability was measured with the use of Kurtzke's Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS; possible range, 0 to 10, with a higher score indicating a greater degree of disability). RESULTS Clinically definite multiple sclerosis developed in 44 of the 50 patients (88 percent) with abnormal results on MRI at presentation and in 4 of 21 patients (19 percent) with normal results on MRI. The median EDSS score at follow-up for those with multiple sclerosis was 3.25 (range, 0 to 10); 31 percent had an EDSS score of 6 or more (including three patients whose deaths were due to multiple sclerosis). The EDSS score at 14 years correlated moderately with lesion volume on MRI at 5 years (r=0.60) and with the increase in lesion volume over the first 5 years (r=0.61). CONCLUSIONS In patients who first present with isolated syndromes suggestive of multiple sclerosis, the increases in the volume of the lesions seen on magnetic resonance imaging of the brain in the first five years correlate with the degree of long-term disability from multiple sclerosis. This relation is only moderate, so the volume of the lesions alone may not be an adequate basis for decisions about the use of disease-modifying treatment.

Abstract:The monitoring of atrazine (ATZ) residues in aquatic environment has important theoretical and practical significance for protecting the ecological environment and ensuring human health. A photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor based on nitrogen deficiency and cyano group simultaneously engineered two-dimensional (2D) carbon nitride (named as DCN) has been proposed for sensitively detecting ATZ. The introduction of nitrogen deficiency narrows band gap of DCN, leading to positive position of intermediate electronic state, and improving the absorption of visible light. The intermediate electronic state can function as an electron trap to promote the separation and migration of photogenerated carriers. Cyano groups trap photoinduced electrons and suppress charge recombination. Gas produced by thermal decomposition has a tailoring effect, endowing DCN with 2D ultra-thin structure, which shortens transmission path of carriers. The synergistic effect of the above enhances PEC performance of DCN. The aptasensor exhibited a wide linear range of 1.0×10−4 to 1.0×103 pM and a low detection limit of 3.33×10−5 pM with excellent selectivity, stability, good recovery rate and satisfactory accuracy during detecting real samples. The proposed design idea of carbon nitride-based materials can provide a foothold for innovative construction of photoactive materials for PEC sensor in environmental monitoring and life safety analysis.

Abstract:In this paper a photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor based on specific recognition between aptamer and target cadmium ion (Cd(II)) with the sensing interface structure changed was constructed. A ZnO-TiO2 nanocomposites and Au nanochains (Au NCs) modified electrode as photosensitive substrate was prepared and further covalently bound with graphite-like carbon nitride (g-C3N4) on the free end of the aptamers to amplify the detection signal which was applied to Cd(II) detection. Graphite-like carbon nitride with narrow band gap exhibited unique photoelectric property under UV and visible light irradiation. When the target Cd(II) was detected by the modified interface of the aptasensor, the structure of sensing interface was changed with the signal sensitizer g-C3N4 closed to the interface, which caused the changes of photocurrent signal more sensitive and exhibited a good linear relationship with the Cd(II) concentration, so as to realize the quantitative analysis of the target. This PEC aptasensor showed a high sensitivity with a detection limit as 1.1×10-11 mol/L and further applied to the water sample detection successfully.

Abstract:Carbendazim (CBZ) has been widely used in agricultural production to control fruits and vegetables diseases, but it can also destroy the human endocrine system. Therefore, sensitive detection of CBZ has attracted increasing attention worldwide. In this study, Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) decorated on CdS microsphere (Pd NPs/CdS) was prepared by the in-situ photoreduced method, and based on the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of noble metal and Schottky junction between Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) and CdS microsphere, the photocurrent after introducing Pd NPs is 7.7 times higher than that of bare CdS microsphere. In view of the outstanding photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance of Pd NPs/CdS and the high specificity of the aptamer, the as-fabricated PEC aptasensor for CBZ detection possesses the excellent detection performance including a broad linear ranging from 1.0 × 10-12 to 1.0 × 10-6 mol/L as a low detection limit of 3.3 × 10-13 mol/L (S/N = 3). Furthermore, the PEC aptasensor was used for determination of lettuce samples from actual agricultural products with satisfactory results.

Abstract:Atrazine (ATZ) is one of the most widely used triazine herbicides with characteristics of easy mobility, high persistence and difficult degradation. Its bioaccumulation causes a serious problem to aqueous environment. Therefore, it is a pressing need for highly sensitive and selective detection of ATZ to deal with water pollution quickly. In this work, Photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor was been formed by Co(II) doped g-C 3 N 4 nanotubes (Co(II)/g-C 3 N 4 ) for the specific detection of ATZ. The tubular structure can provide multiple light reflection/scattering channels for rapid and long-distance electron transfer, which is favorable to promote photo-generated carriers separation. The Co(II) is located in the interlayer of g-C 3 N 4 , which can modulate the electronic structure and energy band to promote PEC performance of g-C 3 N 4 . Due to the specific recognition between aptamer and ATZ, aptamer can be used to enhance the selectivity of sensor. The PEC aptasensor showed a low detection limit (3.33 ×10 –3 fM) and a broad linear range (1 ×10 –2 − 1 ×10 3 fM) of ATZ. Furthermore, the PEC aptasensor exhibited excellent selectivity and stability in real water sample. This work not only provides a simplified and cost-effective method for detecting ATZ, but also provides insights into the detection of other pollutants.

Abstract:Developing effective analytical method for sulfadimethoxine (SDM) detection is highly desirable and vitally crucial for protecting environment safety and human health. Herein, a highly selective and sensitive photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor for accurate detection of SDM was proposed, which employed zinc phthalocyanine/graphitic carbon nitride (ZnPc/CN) nanocomposite as photosensitive material. The ZnPc/CN nanocomposite was constructed by modification of CN nanosheet with visible/near-infrared light responsive photosensitizer ZnPc. The introduction of ZnPc into CN exhibited amplified PEC response, which was 5.7 and 18.3 times than pure ZnPc and CN, attributed to the enhanced light harvesting ability and improved photoelectric conversion efficiency of such nanocomposite. By using ZnPc/CN and sulfadimethoxine (SDM) aptamer as PEC response material and specific probe, a PEC aptasensor was established for SDM detection. The aptamer was connected to the surface of chitosan/ZnPc/CN/ITO through the formation of phosphoramidate bonds between the amino group of the chitosan and phosphate group of the aptamer at 5' end. The fabricated aptasensor displayed good detection linearity of 0.1 ~ 300 nM and low detection limit of 0.03 nM (S/N=3) under optimized conditions, and the potential applicability of the PEC aptasensor was confirmed by detecting SDM in milk powder samples.

Abstract:Widely used organophosphorus pesticide triazophos (TAP) can easily cumulate in aquatic system due to its high stability chemically and photochemically and thus posing significant threat to aquatic creatures and humans' health. Urging demand for rapid determining TAP in water has risen. Photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing turns out to be a good candidate for its simplicity in fabrication and swiftness in detection. Nevertheless, traditional PEC sensors often lack selectivity as their signal generation primarily relies on the oxidation of organic compounds in the electrolyte by photo-induced holes. To address this limitation, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) can be in combined with PEC sensors to significantly enhance the selectivity. Here, we present a novel approach utilizing a PEC sensor enhanced by carbon-modified titanium dioxide molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP/C/TiO2 NTs). Carbon quantum dot (CQD) modification of titanium dioxide nanotube arrays (C/TiO2 NTs) was achieved through a one-step anodization process, effectively enhancing visible light absorption by narrowing the band gap of TiO2, and CQDs also function as sensitizer accelerating charge transfer for improved and stable photocurrent signals during detection. Our method further incorporates MIPs to heighten the selectivity of the PEC sensor. Electro-polymerization using cyclic voltammetry was employed to polymerize MIPs with pyrrole as the functional monomer and triazophos as the target molecule. The resultant MIP/C/TiO2 NT sensor exhibited remarkable sensitivity, with a detection limit of 0.03 nM (S/N = 3), alongside exceptional selectivity and stability for triazophos detection in water. This offers a promising avenue for efficient, cost-effective, and rapid monitoring of pesticide contaminants in aquatic environments, contributing to the broader goals of environmental preservation and public health.
Electrochemiluminescence detection of diazinon in vegetables based on the synergistic interaction of WO3-x dots with Au@SiO2 nanocapsules

Abstract:In this work, a simple synthesis of low-toxicity transition metal material of WO3-x dots was used as a co-reactant with Au@SiO2 as a core-shell material and a signal amplification factor to collaboratively promote Ru(bpy)32+ electrochemiluminescence (ECL) for the construction of a highly sensitive aptasensor for the detection of diazinon (DZN) in vegetables. Electrodes modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes-chitosan composite membranes (MWCNTs-CS) were used to load and immobilize more Ru(bpy)32+.can load more Ru(bpy)32+. WO3-x dots synthesized by a simple method showed excellent ECL efficiency as a novel co-reactant for Ru(bpy)32+. Under optimized conditions, this aptasensor for DZN has a wide detection range (10 pg mL-1 - 1 μg mL-1.) and a low detection limit (0.0197 ng L-1). The aptasensor has shown good results in the analysis of real samples in the experiment. This work provides a new approach to the construction of a novel electrochemiluminescence sensor for the detection of pesticides.

Abstract:In the work, carbon nitride with porous structure and abundant surface functional groups was successfully prepared through an alkaline hydrothermal treatment. Functional porous carbon nitride could serve as the excellent photoelectric transducer substrate and also act as the anchor site for capturing target Cu2+. As a result, a photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor based on the functional porous carbon nitride was proposed for sensitive detection of Cu2+. Under visible light irradiation, Cu2+-induced surface exciton trapping was appeared on the photoanode sensors, greatly suppressing the transfer of photogenerated charge, which was different from the previous PEC system. Meanwhile, the PEC sensors show satisfactory performance in the detection of Cu2+ with high sensitivity and low detection limit. More importantly, using EDTA, we realized the regeneration of photoanode sensors for probing Cu2+. This work provides a reference for development of the regenerative PEC sensor in the area of commercial determination.

Abstract:Photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing enables the rapid, accurate, and highly sensitive detection of biologically important chemicals. However, achieving high selectivity without external biological elements remains a challenge because the PEC reactions inherently have poor selectivity. Herein, we report a strategy to address this problem by regulating the charge-transfer pathways using polymeric carbon nitride (pCN)-based heterojunction photoelectrodes. Interestingly, because of redox reactions at different semiconductor/electrolyte interfaces with specific charge-transfer pathways, each analyte demonstrated a unique combination of photocurrent-change polarity. Based on this principle, a pCN-based PEC sensor for the highly selective sensing of ascorbic acid in serum against typical interferences, such as dopamine, glutathione, epinephrine, and citric acid was successfully developed. This study sheds light on a general PEC sensing strategy with high selectivity without biorecognition units by engineering charge-transfer pathways in heterojunctions on photoelectrodes.

Abstract:In this project, a novel promising electrochemiluminescence probe based on ternary nanocomposite as CuS/CQDs/g-C3N4NS was demonstrated for the accurate monitoring of diazinon as a popular organophosphate pesticide. This nanocomposite as a promoted luminophore was synthesized by a simple microwave method. Carbon quantum dots and copper sulfide nanostructures displayed a good cooperative effect on the signal improvement. Also, boron nitride quantum dots were introduced as a new and effective co-reactant in the negative potential window for a carbon-based electrochemiluminescence system for the first time. The ultra-sensitive electrochemiluminescence platform was truly used for the analysis of diazinon. The broad linear dynamic range and low limit of detection were obtained from 1.0 × 10−15 to 5.0 × 10−9 M and 2.2 × 10−16 M, respectively. Owing to superior proficiency in accurate diazinon analysis, the developed sensor was used as a new applicable probe for quantitative analysis of diazinon in real samples.

Abstract:As a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic, the overuse of oxytetracycline (OTC) causes antibiotics residues in the environment and seriously threats to human health owing to effective antibacterial properties. Thus, it is particularly important to design a photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor to detect OTC with excellent performance. Herein, we developed a selective and stable PEC aptasensor of OTC on the basis of Co3O4 nanoparticles (Co3O4 NPs)/graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) heterojunction, used as PEC active materials. The Co3O4 NPs were successfully grown on the g-CN via grinding and calcining mixture of Co3O4 precursors and bulk g-CN. The Co3O4/g-CN heterojunction with improved light utilization and promoted electrons/holes separation capability can exhibit higher PEC signal than that of g-CN. In order to implement the purpose of specific recognition, OTC-aptamer was introduced into modified electrode to construct highly selective PEC aptasensor for OTC determination, which can possess wide linear range (0.01-500 nM) with low detection limit (3.5 pM, S/N=3). This PEC aptasensor platform with excellent selectivity and high stability can provide a practical application in the field of water monitoring.

Abstract:This study developed a new photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensor for the detection of the hydrazine (N 2 H 4 , HZ) based on a donor-π-bridge-acceptor (D-π-A) configuration organic photoactive dye (Dye-HZ). The dye was covalently immobilized on an FTO/TiO 2 (FTO: fluorine-doped tin oxide) substrate, resulting in a photoanode FTO/TiO 2 /Dye-HZ that exhibits a specific PEC response to N 2 H 4 . Hydrazine reacts with the acetyl group in the Dye-HZ molecule, leading to its removal and the formation of a hydroxy group . The hydroxy group dissociates a hydrogen ion, forming a phenoxide anion with strong electron-donating characteristics. As a result, the dye molecule exhibits a strong intramolecular charge transfer effect, significantly enhancing absorbance and photoelectric response under visible light irradiation , leading to a remarkable increase in photocurrent and enabling highly sensitive detection of hydrazine. Furthermore, the PEC sensor demonstrates excellent selectivity and can be applied for the detection of hydrazine in real water samples. This study presents an innovative PEC sensing approach for hydrazine based on responsive photoactive molecules, providing new insights for PEC detection of other environmental pollutants.

Abstract:Here, a visible-light driven and efficient photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor for highly sensitive and specific detection of di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) was constructed based on N-doped carbon quantum dots-decorated TiO2 nanorods (N-CQDs-decorated TiO2 NRs) subtly integrated with biocatalytic precipitation (BCP). The N-CQDs-decorated TiO2 NRs synthesized through a facile hydrothermal method possess enhanced visible-light absorption capability and excellent PEC performance. The synthesized composites were used as the sensing material for developing a PEC aptasensor. Amino-functionalized complementary strand (cDNA) was first covalently immobilized on the N-CQDs-decorated TiO2 NRs, and then horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-labeled aptamer molecules were introduced onto the surface of composites by hybridization with cDNA. HRP-induced biocatalytic precipitation (BCP) caused the decrease of PEC detection signal, playing a role of signal amplification. The proposed PEC aptasensor shows good detection performance for DEHP with high sensitivity, selectivity, stability and reproducibility, and the detection limit is as low as 0.017 ng/L. Moreover, satisfying results were achieved for the DEHP assays in real environmental samples using the proposed PEC aptasensor. Thus, this present method would contribute a fresh idea to monitor DEHP or other pollutants in the environment.

Abstract:A photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptasensor for sensitive and selective detection of oxytetracycline (OTC) was designed and constructed based on a novel Z-scheme heterojunction of bismuth sulfide-carbon nitride (Bi 2 S 3 -C 3 N 4 ) as photoactive material. Since the photogenerated electron-hole pairs can be effectively separated by the Z-scheme route, the photocurrent intensity of the constructed Bi 2 S 3 -C 3 N 4 heterojunction was about 2.0 times higher than that of pure Bi 2 S 3 . Specifically, we disclosed that the increased photocurrent of the aptasensor with the target OTC was ascribed to the oxidation by the generated holes in the Bi 2 S 3 -C 3 N 4 based PEC system, which was further validated by electron spin resonance technique. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the photocurrent gradually increased with the increasing of OTC concentration, the proposed PEC aptasensor has the advantages of satisfying linear range (from 1 ×10 −12 to 1 ×10 −6 M), low detection limit (6 ×10 −13 M), excellent selectivity, reproducibility, and stability for OTC detection. In addition, the designed PEC aptasensor has been successfully used for the detection of OTC in soil samples.

Abstract:Pesticide contamination is a global concern, threatening human health and food safety. Herein, we developed heparin (HEP) functionalized upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs)-based ratiometric nanosensor for the sensitive detection of 2,6-dichloro-4-nitroaniline (DCN) pesticide via inner filter effect. The strategy for HEP functionalization of UCNPs is based on adjusting the surface potentials of UCNPs with polyanionic HEP through the electrostatic interaction. UCNPs (NaYbF4:Gd/Y/Tm@NaYbF4@NaYF4) was designed with core-shell-shell structure and extra sensitizer layer for efficient and strong upconversion luminescence (UCL) in the range of UV to NIR. After incorporation of DCN, the upconverted UV emission of UCNPs-HEP ratiometric nanosensor was considerably quenched with the NIR UCL at 800 nm remaining unchanged as internal standard. The UCNPs-HEP ratiometric nanosensor can achieve outstandingly selective and sensitive detection of DCN at the wide linear range of 5-300 μM with a detection limit of 0.41 μM. The remarkable applicability of the UCNPs-HEP ratiometric nanosensor was verified in apple, cucumber and grapes samples. The developed UCNPs-HEP ratiometric nanosensor with excellent biocompatibility and water dispersion capability, is promising for convenient, selective and sensitive sensing of DCN towards food and aqueous samples.

Abstract:Stable detection of diazinon (DZN) residues in vegetables is important for food safety. In this work, an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) aptasensor with dual-catalytic glucose in-situ production of H2O2 was constructed for the stable detection of DZN in vegetables. Firstly, MWCNTs@MB was prepared using π-π stacking interactions between methylene blue (MB) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) to enhance the loading of MB on an electrode and thus catalyze the generation of H2O2 from glucose. Secondly, Cu2O@AuNPs was formed by loading AuNPs on the surface of Cu2O through spontaneous reduction reaction, which improved the interfacial charge transfer, Cu2O nano-enzyme had glucose oxidase mimicking activity and could further catalyze the production of more H2O2 from glucose. MWCNTs@MB and Cu2O@AuNPs played a key role in the in-situ generation of co-reacting reagent H2O2, which solved the problem of unstable detection caused by the easy decomposition of the H2O2 solution added to the luminescence system. In addition, the aptamer was immobilized on the electrode surface by forming Au-S bonds with Cu2O@AuNPs. As a result, the ECL aptasensor performed good linearity in 1.00 pg mL-1-1.00 μg mL-1 and a low limit of detection (LOD) to 0.39 pg mL-1 (S/N = 3). This work provided an effective method for the accurate and stable detection of DZN residues in vegetables, which was of great significance in ensuring food safety and assessing the environmental risk of DZN.
