Abstract:One of the major limitations of MRI is its slow acquisition speed. To accelerate data acquisition, partially parallel imaging (PPI) methods have been widely used in clinical applications such as sensitivity encoding (SENSE) and generalized autocalibrating partially parallel acquisitions (GRAPPA). SENSE is a popular image-domain partially parallel imaging method, which suffers from residual aliasing artifacts when the reduction factor goes higher. Undersampling the k-space data and then reconstruct images with artificial sparsity is an efficient way to accelerate data acquisition. By exploiting artificial sparsity with a high-pass filter, an improved SENSE method is proposed in this work, termed high-pass filtered SENSE (HF-SENSE). First, a high-pass filter was applied to the raw k-space data, the result of which was used as the inputs of sensitivity estimation and undersampling process. Second, the adaptive array coil combination method was adopted to calculate sensitivity maps on a block-by-block basis. Third, Tikhonov regularized SENSE was then used to reconstruct magnetic resonance images. Fourth, the reconstructed images were transformed into k-space data, which was filtered with the corresponding inverse filter. Both simulation and in vivo experiments demonstrate that HF-SENSE method significantly reduces noise level of the reconstructed images compared with SENSE. Furthermore, it is found that HF-SENSE can achieve lower normalized root-mean-square error value than SENSE. The proposed method explores artificial sparsity with a high-pass filter. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed HF-SENSE method can improve the image quality of SENSE reconstruction. The high-pass filter parameters can be predefined. With this image reconstruction method, high acceleration factors can be achieved, which will improve the clinical applicability of SENSE. This retrospective study (HF-SENSE: an improved partially parallel imaging using a high-pass filter) was approved by Institute Review Board of 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University (ethical approval number 2018–314). Rapid 3D Dynamic Arterial Spin Labeling with a Sparse Model-Based Image Reconstruction

Abstract:Dynamic arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI measures the perfusion bolus at multiple observation times and yields accurate estimates of cerebral blood flow in the presence of variations in arterial transit time. ASL has intrinsically low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and is sensitive to motion, so that extensive signal averaging is typically required, leading to long scan times for dynamic ASL. The goal of this study was to develop an accelerated dynamic ASL method with improved SNR and robustness to motion using a model-based image reconstruction that exploits the inherent sparsity of dynamic ASL data. The first component of this method is a single-shot 3D turbo spin echo spiral pulse sequence accelerated using a combination of parallel imaging and compressed sensing. This pulse sequence was then incorporated into a dynamic pseudo continuous ASL acquisition acquired at multiple observation times, and the resulting images were jointly reconstructed enforcing a model of potential perfusion time courses. Performance of the technique was verified using a numerical phantom and it was validated on normal volunteers on a 3-Tesla scanner. In simulation, a spatial sparsity constraint improved SNR and reduced estimation errors. Combined with a model-based sparsity constraint, the proposed method further improved SNR, reduced estimation error and suppressed motion artifacts. Experimentally, the proposed method resulted in significant improvements, with scan times as short as 20s per time point. These results suggest that the model-based image reconstruction enables rapid dynamic ASL with improved accuracy and robustness.
Parallel Imaging and Convolutional Neural Network Combined Fast MR Image Reconstruction: Applications in Low-Latency Accelerated Real-Time Imaging.

Abstract:Purpose To develop and evaluate a parallel imaging and convolutional neural network combined image reconstruction framework for low-latency and high-quality accelerated real-time MR imaging. Methods Conventional Parallel Imaging reconstruction resolved as gradient descent steps was compacted as network layers and interleaved with convolutional layers in a general convolutional neural network. All parameters of the network were determined during the offline training process, and applied to unseen data once learned. The proposed network was first evaluated for real-time cardiac imaging at 1.5 T and real-time abdominal imaging at 0.35 T, using threefold to fivefold retrospective undersampling for cardiac imaging and threefold retrospective undersampling for abdominal imaging. Then, prospective undersampling with fourfold acceleration was performed on cardiac imaging to compare the proposed method with standard clinically available GRAPPA method and the state-of-the-art L1-ESPIRiT method. Results Both retrospective and prospective evaluations confirmed that the proposed network was able to images with a lower noise level and reduced aliasing artifacts in comparison with the single-coil based and L1-ESPIRiT reconstructions for cardiac imaging at 1.5 T, and the GRAPPA and L1-ESPIRiT reconstructions for abdominal imaging at 0.35 T. Using the proposed method, each frame can be reconstructed in less than 100 ms, suggesting its clinical compatibility. Conclusion The proposed Parallel Imaging and convolutional neural network combined reconstruction framework is a promising technique that allows low-latency and high-quality real-time MR imaging.

Abstract:PurposeTo evaluate the feasibility and performance of compressed sensing (CS) with magnitude subtraction regularization in accelerating non-contrast-enhanced dynamic intracranial MR angiography (NCE-dMRA). MethodsA CS algorithm was introduced in NCE-dMRA by exploiting the sparsity of the magnitude difference of the control and label images. The NCE-dMRA data were acquired using golden-angle stack-of-stars trajectory on six healthy volunteers and one patient with arteriovenous fistula. Images were reconstructed using (i) the proposed magnitude-subtraction CS (MS-CS); (ii) complex-subtraction CS; (iii) independent CS; and (iv) view-sharing with k-space weighted image contrast (KWIC). The dMRA image quality was compared across the four reconstruction strategies. The proposed MS-CS method was further compared with KWIC for temporal fidelity of depicting dynamic flow. ResultsThe proposed MS-CS method was able to reconstruct NCE-dMRA images with detailed vascular structures and clean background. It provided better subjective image quality than the other two CS strategies (P<0.05). Compared with KWIC, MS-CS showed similar image quality, but reduced temporal blurring in delineating the fine distal arteries. ConclusionsThe MS-CS method is a promising CS technique for accelerating NCE-dMRA acquisition without compromising image quality and temporal fidelity. Magn Reson Med 79:867-878, 2018. Accelerating Low-field MRI: Compressed Sensing and AI for fast noise-robust imaging

Abstract:Portable, low-field Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners are increasingly being deployed in clinical settings. However, critical barriers to their widespread use include low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), generally low image quality, and long scan duration. As these systems can operate in unusual environments, the level and spectral characteristics of the environmental electromagnetic inference (EMI) noise can change substantially across sites and scans, further reducing image quality. Methods for accelerating acquisition and boosting image quality are of critical importance to enable clinically actionable high-quality imaging in these systems. Despite the role that compressed sensing (CS) and artificial intelligence (AI)-based methods have had in improving image quality for high-field MRI, their adoption for low-field imaging is in its infancy, and it is unclear how robust these methods are in low SNR regimes. Here, we investigate and compare leading CS and AI-based methods for image reconstruction from subsampled data and perform a thorough analysis of their performance across a range of SNR values. We compare classical L1-wavelet CS with leading data-driven and model-driven AI methods. Experiments are performed using publicly available datasets and our own low-field and high-field experimental data. Specifically, we apply an unrolled AI network to low-field MRI, and find it outperforms competing reconstruction methods. We prospectively deploy our undersampling methods to accelerate imaging on a 6.5 mT MRI scanner. This work highlights the potential and pitfalls of advanced reconstruction techniques in low-field MRI, paving the way for broader clinical applications.

An Exploration of Parallel Imaging System for Very-low Field (50mT) MRI Scanner

Abstract:Reducing the scanning time of very-low field (VLF) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, commonly employed for stroke diagnosis, can enhance patient comfort and operational efficiency. The conventional parallel imaging (PI) technique for high-field MRI should be tailored to apply here, considering the differences in the direction of the main magnetic field and the presence of noise. A VLF-specific PI algorithm and phased-array coil are proposed, marking the first application of PI in VLF MRI. Reconstruction quality is enhanced by denoising undersampled k-space data using a linear-prediction based Kalman filter. Subsequently, the denoised k-space data are nonlinearly mapped from the original space onto a high-dimensional feature space, utilizing a polynomial feature mapping defined nonlinear frame. Frame parameters are calculated using auto-calibration signals (ACS) from the center k-space, and missing phase-encoding lines in the original space are estimated using acquired lines in the feature space. An 8-channel phased-array coil, designed for a vertical main magnetic field, is decoupled using geometric overlap and a low input impedance (LII) preamplifier. Healthy volunteer head imaging experiments using the proposed PI technique exhibit the lowest mean-squared-error (MSE) value and the highest peak-signal-to-noise (PSNR) and structural similarity index (SSIM) values compared to two widely used PI methods. The proposed PI technique enables the VLF MRI scanner to achieve similar image quality and a 72.5% improvement in signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) compared to fully sampled images while requiring less than 50% of the scan time. We present a PI technique tailored for VLF MRI scanner for the first time, along with potential research direction to achieve greater reduction factor.

Accelerated Parallel Magnetic Resonance Imaging with Compressed Sensing using Structured Sparsity

Abstract:Compressed sensing is an imaging paradigm that allows one to invert an underdetermined linear system by imposing the a priori knowledge that the sought after solution is sparse (i.e., mostly zeros). Previous works have shown that if one also knows something about the sparsity pattern (the locations where non-zero entries exist), one can take advantage of this structure to improve the quality of the result. A significant application of compressed sensing is magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), where samples are acquired in the Fourier domain. Compressed sensing allows one to reconstruct a high-quality image with fewer samples which can be collected with a faster scan. This increases the robustness of MRI to patient motion since less motion is possible during the shorter scan. Parallel imaging, where multiple coils are used to gather data, is another an more ubiquitously used method for accelerating MRI. Existing combinations of these acceleration methods, such as Sparse SENSE, yield high quality images with an even shorter scan time than either technique alone. In this work, we show how to modify Sparse SENSE with structured sparsity to reconstruct a high quality image with even fewer samples.

Accelerate Single-shot Data Acquisitions Using Compressed Sensing and FRONSAC Imaging

Abstract:Nonlinear spatial encoding magnetic (SEM) fields have been studied to complement multichannel RF encoding and accelerate MRI scans. Published schemes include PatLoc, O-Space, Null Space, 4D-RIO, and others, but the large variety of possible approaches to exploiting nonlinear SEMs remains mostly unexplored. Before, we have presented a new approach, Fast ROtary Nonlinear Spatial ACquisition (FRONSAC) imaging, where the nonlinear fields provide a small rotating perturbation to standard linear trajectories. While FRONSAC encoding greatly improves image quality, at the highest accelerations or weakest FRONSAC fields, some undersampling artifacts remain. However, the under-sampling artifacts that occur with FRONSAC encoding are relatively incoherent and well suited to the compressed sensing (CS) reconstruction. CS provides a sparsity-promoting convex strategy to reconstruct images from highly undersampled datasets. The work presented here combines the benefits of FRONSAC and CS. Simulations illustrate that this combination can further improve image reconstruction with FRONSAC gradients of low amplitudes and frequencies.

The Anatomy and Applied Anatomy of the Mediastinal Fascia

Abstract:It is common knowledge amongst thoracic surgeons that the pulmonary arteries and veins at the hilum of the lung are invested by fascial sheaths. The hilar bronchi, too, have tough fascial investments which are readily demonstrated during dissection pneumonectomy. Anatomical textbooks remain strangely silent upon the origin, and even upon the existence, of these fascial sheaths. Gray's Anatomy (1935) merely remarks that the fibrous pericardium is prolonged around the pulmonary arteries, " to be gradually lost upon the external coats of these vessels." It does not mention the existence of a definite sheath at the hilum of the lung related either to the pulmonary vessels or to the bronchus. It seems obvious that the fascial sheaths surrounding the pulmonary vessels are derived from the fibrous pericardium. There is no such ready explanation for the origin of the bronchial fascial sheath. The only possible source of this seems to be the pretracheal fascia, which is described as passing downwards from the neck into the superior mediastinum to fuse eventually with the fibrous pericardium. A review of the literature failed to provide any mention of lateral extensions of the pretracheal fascia around the bronchi. In an effort to demonstrate the origin and distribution of these fascial planes 12 heart and lung specimens have been injected and dissected. The findings of this investigation, and a discussion of various clinical and pathological conditions in which these fascial planes appear to play a part, are included in this paper.
Towards Ultrafast MRI via Extreme k-Space Undersampling and Superresolution

Abstract:We went below the MRI acceleration factors (a.k.a., k-space undersampling) reported by all published papers that reference the original fastMRI challenge, and then considered powerful deep learning based image enhancement methods to compensate for the underresolved images. We thoroughly study the influence of the sampling patterns, the undersampling and the downscaling factors, as well as the recovery models on the final image quality for both the brain and the knee fastMRI benchmarks. The quality of the reconstructed images surpasses that of the other methods, yielding an MSE of 0.00114, a PSNR of 29.6 dB, and an SSIM of 0.956 at x16 acceleration factor. More extreme undersampling factors of x32 and x64 are also investigated, holding promise for certain clinical applications such as computer-assisted surgery or radiation planning. We survey 5 expert radiologists to assess 100 pairs of images and show that the recovered undersampled images statistically preserve their diagnostic value.

Fast and silent MRI using nonlinear gradient fields at the ultrasonic gradient switching frequency of 20 kHz with a Point Spread Function framework reconstruction

Abstract:Purpose: To demonstrate the feasibility of using a nonlinear gradient field for spatial encoding at the ultrasonic switching frequency of 20 kHz and present a framework to reconstruct data acquired in this way. Methods: Nonlinear encoding at 20 kHz was realized by using a single-axis silent gradient insert for imaging in the periphery, that, is the nonlinear region, of the gradient field. The gradient insert induces a rapidly oscillating gradient field in the phase-encode direction, which enables nonlinear encoding when combined with a Cartesian readout from the linear whole-body gradients. Data from a 2D gradient echo sequence were reconstructed using a point spread function (PSF) framework. Accelerated scans were also simulated via retrospective undersampling (R = 1 to R = 8) to determine the effectiveness of the PSF-framework for accelerated imaging. Results: Using a nonlinear gradient field switched at 20 kHz and the PSF-framework resulted in images of comparable quality to images from conventional Cartesian linear encoding. At increased acceleration factors (R ≤ 8), the PSF-framework outperformed linear SENSE reconstructions by improved controlling of aliasing artifacts. Conclusion: Using the PSF-framework, images of comparable quality to conventional SENSE reconstructions are possible via combining traditional linear and ultrasonic oscillating nonlinear encoding fields. Using nonlinear gradient fields relaxes the demand for strictly linear gradient fields, enabling much higher slew rates with a reduced risk of peripheral nerve stimulation or cardiac stimulation, which could aid in extension to ultrasonic whole-body MRI. The lack of aliasing artifacts also highlights the potential of accelerated imaging using the PSF-framework.
Acceleration of Magnetic Resonance Cholangiopancreatography Using Compressed Sensing at 1.5 and 3 T: A Clinical Feasibility Study

Abstract:Objectives: Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) is an established technique in routine magnetic resonance examination. By applying the compressed sensing (CS) acceleration technique to conventional MRCP sequences, scan time can be markedly reduced. With promising results at 3 T, there is a necessity to evaluate the performance at 1.5 T due to wide scanner availabilities. Aim of this study is to test the feasibility of accelerated 3-dimensional (3D) MRCP with extended sampling perfection with application-optimized contrasts using different flip angle evolution (SPACE) using CS in navigator triggering and in a single breath-hold in a clinical setting at 1.5 T and 3 T and compare it with a conventional navigator-triggered 3D SPACE-MRCP. Materials and methods: Phantom measurements were performed to adapt sequence parameters. Conventional 3D SPACE-MRCP in navigator triggering (STD_MRCP) as well as CS-accelerated 3D SPACE-MRCP acquired in navigator triggering and in a single breath-hold (CS_MRCP and CS_BH_MRCP) was performed in 66 patients undergoing clinically induced MRI of the pancreatobiliary system at 1.5 T and 3 T. Image quality evaluation was performed by 2 independent radiologists. Dedicated statistics were performed (P < 0.05 considered significant). Results: In patient imaging, CS_MRCP was superior to STD_MRCP and CS_BH_MRCP in aspects of overall image quality at 1.5 T (P = 0.01; P < 0.001) and 3 T (P = 0.002; P = 0.013). Overall image quality in CS_BH_MRCP was inferior compared with STD_MRCP and CS_MRCP at 1.5 T. At 3 T, overall image quality in CS_BH_MRCP was superior to STD_MRCP (P = 0.001). Scan time was reduced by 25% to 46% covering 5% of k-space (CS_MRCP at 1.5 and 3 T) and 97% covering 3.6% of k-space (CS_BH_MRCP at 1.5 and 3 T). Conclusions: Compressed sensing-accelerated MRCP is feasible in clinical routine at 1.5 and 3 T offering major reduction of acquisition time. When applying a single breath-hold CS imaging, field strengths of 3 T are recommended.

Abstract:In this study, we explore the potential of compressed sensing (CS) accelerated broadband 3D phase-encoded turbo spin-echo (3D-PE-TSE) for the purpose of geometrically undistorted imaging in the presence of field inhomogeneities. To achieve this goal 3D-PE-SE and 3D-PE-TSE sequences with broadband rf pulses and dedicated undersampling patterns were implemented on a clinical scanner. Additionally, a 3D multi-spectral spin-echo (ms3D-SE) sequence was implemented for reference purposes. First, we demonstrated the influence of susceptibility induced off-resonance effects on the spatial encoding of broadband 3D-SE, ms3D-SE, 3D-PE-SE and 3D-PE-TSE using a grid phantom containing a titanium implant (Δχ = 182 ppm) with x-ray CT as a gold standard. These experiments showed that the spatial encoding of 3D-PE-(T)SE was unaffected by susceptibility induced off-resonance effects, which caused geometrical distortions and/or signal hyper-intensities in broadband 3D-SE and, to a lesser extent, in ms3D-SE frequency encoded methods. Additionally, an SNR analysis was performed and the temporally resolved signal of 3D-PE-(T)SE sequences was exploited to retrospectively decrease the acquisition bandwidth and obtain field offset maps. The feasibility of CS acceleration was studied retrospectively and prospectively for the 3D-PE-SE sequence using an existing CS algorithm adapted for the reconstruction of 3D data with undersampling in all three phase encoded dimensions. CS was combined with turbo-acceleration by variable density undersampling and spherical stepwise T2 weighting by randomly sorting consecutive echoes in predefined spherical k-space layers. The CS-TSE combination resulted in an overall acceleration factor of 60, decreasing the original 3D-PE-SE scan time from 7 h to 7 min. Finally, CS accelerated 3D-PE-TSE in vivo images of a titanium screw were obtained within 10 min using a micro-coil demonstrating the feasibility of geometrically undistorted MRI near severe field inhomogeneities.

Abstract:Dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (DMRI) needs to obtain MR images with high spatiotemporal resolution in a short scan time, which is still a challenging problem due to the limitation of acquisition speed of the MR scanner. In this paper, we propose a novel method named 3-frame parallel temporal gradient filtering (PTGF) for compressive sensing (CS) DMRI reconstruction. The DMRI dataset is decomposed into 3-frame subsets and each subset includes the first frame (with more k-space samples used as reference) and any adjacent couple of frames. After the first frame is reconstructed, all the later couple of frames can be reconstructed in parallel once their k-space data is acquired. High algorithm speed is required in our method. A primal-dual algorithm is used to solve the challenging problem. The proposed method is also compared with three state-of-the-art methods using the same DMRI datasets. Experimental results show that our method outperforms other methods in terms of reconstruction accuracy.
Improved balance of artifact / noise level and fine structure preservation in highly accelerated ppi

Abstract:Target Audience Scientists and clinicians interested in highly accelerated MRI. Purpose Based on spatial sensitivity of coil arrays, Partially Parallel Imaging (PPI) [1] has been widely used in clinical practice to accelerate acquisition, but at the cost of reduced Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). Often, regularization schemes are used to preserve SNR. However, existing regularization schemes have the difficulty to balance the reduction of artifact/noise level and the preservation of boundaries and fine structures, especially when the acceleration factor is high. The purpose of this work is to achieve low noise/artifact level with minimal impact on fine structures at high acceleration factors. Preliminary results demonstrated that lower root-mean-square-error (RMSE) and better preserved fine structures can be achieved by using the proposed method than CS-SENSE [2]. Low errors image was reconstructed at acceleration factor as high as 8 with an 8-channel head coil. Methods Patch-wise non-local sparse [3,4]: The transform domain determines the sparsity, and is the key to compressive sensing based denoising. In patch-wise non-local sparse, the transform domain is the clustered image fragments (patches) according to the similarity to exemplar patterns. Abstract:Data acquisition time is a bottle neck for increasing imaging speed of magnetic resonance imaging. To solve the problem, a new fast magnetic resonance imaging method based on variable-density spiral acquisition and Bregman iterative reconstruction is proposed in this paper, under the framework of compressed sensing. The proposed method increases the acquisition speed by data undersampling. The resulting undersampling aliasing artifact is removed by utilizing the intrinsic property of variable-density spiral and Bregman iterative recosntruction. The proposed method is validated by both phantom experiemnt and in vivo experiment. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively remove aliasing artifact from data undersampling, and achieve an image with well-preserved image structure information. Therefore this method can be used for reducing data acquisition time.
Accelerating Brain 3D T1-Weighted Turbo Field Echo MRI Using Compressed Sensing-Sensitivity Encoding (CS-SENSE)

Abstract:<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Purpose</h3><p>To evaluate the clinical application of the accelerated 3D T1- weighted turbo field echo (T1W- TFE) using the compressed sensing-sensitivity encoding (CS-SENSE) and identify the appropriate acceleration factor.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Methods</h3><p>33 healthy controls (HC), 10 multiple sclerosis (MS) and 10 Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients were prospectively recruited. A conventional 3D T1W-TFE sequence and accelerated sequences with CS-SENSE factors of 3, 4.5, 6 and with SENSE factors of 3, 4.5 were acquired for all participants on a 3.0T MR system. The visual evaluation was independently assessed by two experienced radiologists. Quantitative image quality metrics and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) between the conventional and the accelerated sequences were performed at the voxel level. Group comparisons were performed between HC and AD or MS patients.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Results</h3><p>There were no significant differences in the visual image quality metrics between conventional sequence and CS-SENSE factor of 3. The sequences with CS-SENSE factor of 6 and SENSE factors of 3, 4.5 showed significantly decreased overall image quality. The ICC values based on the voxel level of each accelerated scan and conventional scan were high (>0.9, 85.2%). For different accelerated sequences, AD and MS patients showed consistent results with the conventional sequence in gray matter atrophy when compared to HC.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Conclusions</h3><p>CS-SENSE factor of 3 is the appropriate parameter to accelerate the 3D T1W-TFE (65% time reduction) with preserved visual image quality. The voxel-based analysis demonstrated high ICCs for brain volume measurements in the majority of brain regions, implying the feasibility of the accelerated technique.</p>

Abstract:<p>Quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) and R2* mapping are MRI post-processing methods that quantify tissue magnetic susceptibility and transverse relaxation rate distributions. However, QSM and R2* acquisitions are relatively slow, even with parallel imaging. Incoherent undersampling and compressed sensing reconstruction techniques have been used to accelerate traditional magnitude-based MRI acquisitions; however, most do not recover the full phase signal, as required by QSM, due to its non-convex nature. In this study, a learning-based Deep Complex Residual Network (DCRNet) is proposed to recover both the magnitude and phase images from incoherently undersampled data, enabling high acceleration of QSM and R2* acquisition. Magnitude, phase, R2*, and QSM results from DCRNet were compared with two iterative and one deep learning methods on retrospectively undersampled acquisitions from six healthy volunteers, one intracranial hemorrhage and one multiple sclerosis patients, as well as one prospectively undersampled healthy subject using a 7T scanner. Peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), structural similarity (SSIM), root-mean-squared error (RMSE), and region-of-interest susceptibility and R2* measurements are reported for numerical comparisons. The proposed DCRNet method substantially reduced artifacts and blurring compared to the other methods and resulted in the highest PSNR, SSIM, and RMSE on the magnitude, R2*, local field, and susceptibility maps. Compared to two iterative and one deep learning methods, the DCRNet method demonstrated a 3.2% to 9.1% accuracy improvement in deep grey matter susceptibility when accelerated by a factor of four. The DCRNet also dramatically shortened the reconstruction time of single 2D brain images from 36-140 seconds using conventional approaches to only 15-70 milliseconds.</p>

Abstract:Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) is one of the most important non-invasive diagnostic tools in routine clinical examination.However,the temporal resolution is still low due to the limitation of Nyquist sampling theorem in k-space signal acquisition.Under the conditions of certain magnetic and gradient field,it takes a long time for signal acquisition to obtain a high resolution image with clinical value.In addition to enhancing the strength of main magnetic field and gradient as well speeding gradient field switch,some mathematical methods have been used to reduce the amount of k-space signal acquisition to shorten MR imaging time.Although under sparse sampling,the final reconstructed image data could be satisfied with Nyquist sampling theorem through these mathematical methods.Furthermore,many fast MRI methods based on data sharing and undersampling of k-space were proposed,such as half-Fourier imaging,keole imaging,parallel imaging,partially separable functions(PSF) and so on.In this review,several typical fast imaging methods were summarized and discussed based on k-space sampling techniques.
