Abstract:Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the torsional resistance, cyclic fatigue resistance, and bending stiffness of nickel-titanium (NiTi) file systems with different heat treatments and cross-sectional designs. Methods: WaveOne Primary treated with memory-triple (MT) heat treatment (WOMT) was compared with WaveOne Primary (WO) and WaveOne Gold Primary (WOG). Torsional resistance test was performed using a customized device, and the distortion angle, ultimate strength, and toughness were evaluated. For cyclic fatigue resistance test, the instruments were reciprocated with continuous 4 mm up-and-down movement until fracture in a customized device, and the time to fracture was compared. Fracture surfaces of each group were examined under the scanning electron microscope. Bending stiffness was measured using a custom-made device. The results were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey's post hoc comparison at a significance level of 95%. Results: WOMT showed higher ultimate strength and toughness than the other systems (P < .05). WOMT also showed highest cyclic fatigue resistance among the tested groups (P < .05). WO had the highest bending stiffness than others, whereas WOMT had a larger residual angle than others (P < .05). Conclusions: This new MT heat treatment technique makes NiTi file more flexible and improves its mechanical properties. In addition, the effect of heat treatment on flexibility was found to be more significant than that of the cross-sectional area.

Abstract:In this paper the instrumented micro-indentation testing (LIT) was used to study the mesoscopic elasto-plastic behavior of nickel-base superalloy GH4145/SQ subjected to cyclic straining at an elevated-temperature. For this purpose, a series of experiments including high-temperature low-cycle fatigue tests, instrumented micro-indentation measurements and OM (TEM) examinations were carried out. The characteristic parameters of indentation (C, h(max), S, h(r), W-e and W-P) during high-temperature fatigue failure process were determined from the experimental indentation load-depth (P-h) curves. The fatigue mesoscopic elasto-plastic properties such as E, sigma(y) and n were estimated using Dao et al.'s analysis algorithm [19], combined with the indentation characteristic parameters, and their distribution patterns were verified in a statistical sense. Microstructural examinations using both OM and TEM were performed to provide the micromechanisms for the fatigue mesoscopic elasto-plastic behavior of the superalloy during high-temperature low-cycle fatigue. Phase Transformation and Mechanical Behaviour of Different Heat-Treated Nickel-Titanium Rotary Instruments

Abstract:Objectives: This study evaluated the phase composition, phase transformation behaviour, and mechanical properties of five heat-treated NiTi instruments. Methods: ProTaper NEXT (M-wire, PTN), ProTaper Gold (Gold-wire, PTG), One Curve (C-wire, OC), EdgeTaper Platinum (Fire-wire, ETP), NeoNiTi (electrical discharge machining-wire, NNA), and ProTaper Universal (conventional wire, PTU, control) with #25-tip size were tested (n = 12/group) for cyclic fatigue resistance (number of cycles to failure; NCF) and torsional resistance (angle of rotation to fracture and maximum torque at fracture [ultimate torsional strength]). The geometry and fracture surfaces of the tested instruments were examined by scanning electron microscopy. The phase transformation temperature and phase composition of the instruments were evaluated using differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction. Data were statistically analysed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test, with the significance level set at 5%. Results: PTG showed the highest NCF (P < .05) at 37°C, while ETP exhibited the highest angle of rotation to fracture, ultimate torsional strength, and stiffness (P < .05). Scanning electron microscopy demonstrated typical clusters of fatigue striations and numerous cracks after cyclic fatigue fracture, whereas there was a concentric abrasion pattern with a dimple and microvoids at the centre after torsional fracture. In differential scanning calorimetry curves, austenite-finishing temperatures of heat-treated instruments were higher than 37°C, whereas that of PTU was lower than 37°C. PTU showed strong peaks of austenite at 25 and 37°C, whereas ETP showed a strong peak of R-phase at 25°C, but mostly austenite phase at 37°C in X-ray diffraction. Conclusions: Geometry, alloy type, and phase transformation temperatures of NiTi instruments affected their mechanical behaviour. Clinical relevance: PTG showed the highest NCF, suitable for markedly curved canals. ETP had the highest torsional resistance, appropriate for narrow and constricted canals.
Cyclic fatigue resistance of three rotary file systems in a dynamic model after immersion in sodium hypochlorite

Abstract:To evaluate the effect of immersion in 3% sodium hypochlorite solution in the resistance to cyclic fatigue of three nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary file systems, ProTaper Next (PTN), Hyflex CM (CM), and Hyflex EDM (EDM), in a mechanical model featuring axial movement. Ninety instruments of three different NiTi rotary file systems, PTN (size 25, 0.06 taper), CM (25, 0.06), and EDM (25/~, variable taper), were randomly divided according to a 3 × 3 factorial design and tested under dynamic immersion in a 3% NaOCl solution (1 or 5 min) or without immersion, making a total of 9 groups (n = 10). Files were tested in an artificial root canal with 45° angle and 5 mm radius apical curvature being submitted to back-and-forth movements until fracture. Statistical analysis was performed using two-way factorial ANOVA with Bonferroni post-hoc tests, at a significance level of 5%. Instruments were evaluated for reliability using a Weilbull approach. Regardless of the immersion treatment, PTN had on average 1200 ± 178 cycles to fracture, CM had 1949 ± 362, and EDM had 5573 ± 853, which was a significantly different (P < 0.01). The NaOCl immersion promoted a significant reduction in the mean number of cycles to fracture (P = 0.01), and was reflected in a significant reduction of the characteristic life of the instruments of the CM end EDM groups. Within this study conditions, EDM instruments performed better to cyclic fatigue followed by CM and then PTN. Immersion in NaOCl decreased the resistance to cyclic fatigue of all tested instruments, but affected more those manufactured from CM wire.
Comparing Cyclic Fatigue Resistance and Free Recovery Transformation Temperature of NiTi Endodontic Single-File Systems Using a Novel Testing Setup

Abstract:The aim of this study was to assess the effect of body temperature (37 °C) on the cyclic fatigue resistance of three endodontic single-file systems using a new testing setup. One Shape® new generation (OS), WaveOneTM (WO) and WaveOne® GOLD (WOG), which are made from different NiTi alloys and operated in different motions (rotation/reciprocation), were evaluated. The study design included four groups. Each group comprised 30 files, 10 files of each of the three file systems, tested at 20 ± 2 °C (group 1 and 3) and at 37 ± 1 °C (group 2 and 4). All files were tested in a custom-made metal block with artificial canals of 60° angle, and a 5 mm and 3 mm radius of curvature, respectively. A heating element was attached to replicate a temperature of 37 °C. Files were introduced 18 mm into the canals and operated until failure. Transformation temperatures of five samples of each of the tested file systems were determined via the bend and free recovery (BFR) method. With the exception of WOG in canals with a 3 mm radius of curvature (p = 0.075), all the tested file systems showed statistically significantly less time needed to fracture when operated at 37 ± 1 °C compared to at 20 ± 2 °C in canals with a 5 mm and 3 mm radius of curvature using Mann–Whitney U test (p < 0.05). All file systems showed transformation temperatures below the body temperature. We concluded that body temperature directly affects the cyclic fatigue resistance of all tested file systems. Bend and free recovery can be suitable for the determination of austenite finish temperatures (Af) of endodontic instruments as it allows testing a longer portion of the instrument.

Abstract:Objective: To compare the phase transformation behavior, bending property and cyclic fatigue resistance of CM-wire, R-phase and M-wire nickel-titanium endodontic files treated by 3 heat treatment techniques. Methods: Hyflex CM (25 mm, 25#/0.06) made from CM wire, TF (25 mm, 25#/0.06) made from R-phase heat treatment, ProTaper Next X2 (25 mm, tip size 25#/0.06) made from M-wire, Mtwo (25 mm, 25#/0.06) and ProTaper F2 (25 mm, tip size 25#/0.08) made from conventional nickel-titanium wire were chosen. Five of each files were chosen for differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) evaluation (n=5). The specimens were prepared from adjacent portions of the shaft. The weight and length were typically (20±1) mg and 2-3 mm. Another eight of the 5 nickel-titanium files were undergone cantilever-bending test, respectively (n=8). Further ten of the 5 instruments were submitted to the cyclic fatigue test by using a simulated metal root canal (n=10). The data of M(s), M(f), A(s), A(f), ΔH, bending load, number of cyclic fatigue (NCF), fragment length were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance at a significance level of P<0.05. Results: The A(f) of Hyflex CM [(60.27±0.94) ℃] and ProTaper Next [(51.40±0.32) ℃] were higher than body temperature of 37 ℃. The bending load values at 3.0 mm deflection of Hyflex CM [(0.867±0.074) N], TF [(1.275±0.146) N], Mtwo [(2.281±0.426) N], ProTaper Next [(3.104±0.252) N] and ProTaper [(4.227±0.483) N] increased gradually and significantly. The NCF of Hyflex CM (582±99), TF (427±85), ProTaper Next (158±22), Mtwo (129±32) and ProTaper (65±20) decreased gradually. Conclusions: The 3 heat treatment techniques exert tremendous influence on the phase transformation behavior and mechanical characteristics of the files, which demonstrate improved bending property and cyclic fatigue resistance than the conventional ones.

Abstract:Fully reversed total-axial-strain-controlled low-cycle fatigue (LCF) tests have been conducted in air at room temperature on polycrystalline 18Cr–8Ni austenitic stainless steel samples. The cyclic deformation behavior was determined by analysis of the hysteresis loop associated with cyclic straining. Three types of hardness measurements, namely nano-indentation, micro-indentation and conventional Vickers hardness tests, with the indent size ranging from several tens of nm to several tens of μm, were performed on the cyclically deformed specimens to investigate the characteristics of the deformation resistance at various scales. A linear increasing dependence of the local deformation resistance on the applied strain amplitude was observed at both macro- and meso-scales. This local resistance corresponds with the dependence of the bulk deformation resistance on the imposed strain amplitude; however, no significant change in the deformation resistance at nano-scale was found among various strain amplitudes. Both the slip band and the dislocation structure in specimens cyclically deformed at various strain amplitudes were correlated with the multi-scale deformation resistance.

Abstract:WaveOne Gold, ProTaper Gold, Reciproc Blue, ProTaper Next, WaveOne and ProTaper files were selected to compare the phase transformation behaviors and mechanical properties of nickel-titanium (NiTi) rotary files after gold heat and blue heat treatments. The reverse transformation finishing point temperatures of WaveOne Gold, ProTaper Gold, ProTaper Next and WaveOne were higher than those of the other two instruments investigated. At a deflection of 0.5 mm, the loads were significantly varied except for ProTaper Next and ProTaper Gold. At a deflection of 3.0 mm, the loads of Reciproc Blue and WaveOne Gold were significantly varied compared to WaveOne and ProTaper. Cycles to failure were reduced in the order of WaveOne Gold, Reciproc Blue, ProTaper Gold, ProTaper Next, WaveOne and ProTaper. NiTi instruments after gold heat and blue heat treatments exhibited significantly higher bending properties and cyclic fatigue resistances, representing an improved performance over traditional and M-wire instruments.
Nickel-Titanium Rotary Instruments: An In Vitro Comparison (Torsional Resistance of Two Heat-treated Reciprocating Files)

Abstract:Aim and objective: The present study aims to evaluate the difference in torsional resistance of two reciprocating nickel-titanium (Ni-Ti) rotary files: WaveOne Gold and EdgeOne Fire. Materials and methods: A total of 40 nickel-titanium rotary instruments (n = 40): 20 WaveOne Gold Small (WOGS) and 20 EdgeOne Fire Small (EOFS) were divided into two groups. Each instrument was tested using a torsional resistance device already validated in previous studies to evaluate and compare torsional resistance. The static torsional test was implemented by blocking each instrument at 3 mm from the tip and rotating it until fracture with a reciprocating motion. Torque to fracture (TtF) and fragment length (FL) were measured and statistically analyzed. Results: Statistical analysis of TtF found significant differences between the two groups (p<0.05). The EOFS showed higher TtF if compared to WOGS, with a mean value and a standard deviation of 3.05 ± 0.07 (N cm) against 2.97 ± 0.08 (N cm). Data for FL showed no significant differences (p>0.05) between the two groups. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it is reasonable to assert that EOFS instruments showed a higher torsional resistance if compared to the WOGS. Clinical significance: As evidenced by this study, EOFS should be considered as a safer solution, in terms of torsional resistance, if compared to WOGS, reducing the risk of intracanal separation due to excessive torsional load.

Abstract:In groups people can accomplish what they cannot do alone. Now new visual and social technologies are making it possible for people to make decisions and solve complex problems collectively. These technologies are enabling groups not only to create community but also to wield power and create rules to govern their own affairs. Electronic democracy theorists have either focused on the individual and the state, disregarding the collaborative nature of public life, or they remain wedded to outdated and unrealistic conceptions of deliberation. This article makes two central claims. First, technology will enable more effective forms of collective action. This is particularly so of the emerging tools for "collective visualization" which will profoundly reshape the ability of people to make decisions, own and dispose of assets, organize, protest, deliberate, dissent and resolve disputes together. From this argument derives a second, normative claim. We should explore ways to structure the law to defer political and legal decision–making downward to decentralized group–based decision–making. This argument about groups expands upon previous theories of law that recognize a center of power independent of central government: namely, the corporation. If we take seriously the potential impact of technology on collective action, we ought to think about what it means to give groups body as well as soul — to "incorporate" them. This paper rejects the anti–group arguments of Sunstein, Posner and Netanel and argues for the potential to realize legitimate self–governance at a "lower" and more democratic level. The law has a central role to play in empowering active citizens to take part in this new form of democracy.
Cyclic fatigue resistance tests of Nickel-Titanium rotary files using simulated canal and weight loading conditions

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: This study compared the cyclic fatigue resistance of nickel-titanium (NiTi) files obtained in a conventional test using a simulated canal with a newly developed method that allows the application of constant fatigue load conditions.MATERIALS AND METHODS: ProFile and K3 files of #25/.06, #30/.06, and #40/.04 were selected. Two types of testing devices were built to test their fatigue performance. The first (conventional) device prescribed curvature inside a simulated canal (C-test), the second new device exerted a constant load (L-test) whilst allowing any resulting curvature. Ten new instruments of each size and brand were tested with each device. The files were rotated until fracture and the number of cycles to failure (NCF) was determined. The NCF were subjected to one-way ANOVA and Duncan's post-hoc test for each method. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was computed to examine any association between methods.RESULTS: Spearman's rank correlation coefficient (ρ = -0.905) showed a significant negative correlation between methods. Groups with significant difference after the L-test divided into 4 clusters, whilst the C-test gave just 2 clusters. From the L-test, considering the negative correlation of NCF, K3 gave a significantly lower fatigue resistance than ProFile as in the C-test. K3 #30/.06 showed a lower fatigue resistance than K3 #25/.06, which was not found by the C-test. Variation in fatigue test methodology resulted in different cyclic fatigue resistance rankings for various NiTi files.CONCLUSIONS: The new methodology standardized the load during fatigue testing, allowing determination fatigue behavior under constant load conditions.
Comparative Evaluation of the Cyclic Fatigue Resistance of WaveOne Gold in Reciprocation, ProGlider in Rotary Motion, and Manual Files in a Reciprocating Handpiece Within Simulated Curved Canals: An In Vitro Study

Abstract:Aim This study compares the cyclic fatigue resistance of glide path files versus manual files used with a reciprocating handpiece in simulated curved canals, specifically evaluating WaveOne Gold Glider, ProGlider, stainless steel (S.S.) K files, nickel-titanium (NiTi) K files, and Flexo K files. Materials and methods Seventy-five instruments were divided into five groups of 15. Simulated canals with a 45° angle and a 5 mm radius of curvature were created using laser micromachining on S.S. blocks. A reciprocating endodontic handpiece (TEP-ER10, NSK, Japan) was used for the manual files and an X-Smart Plus endo motor for the rotary files. The time to fracture was recorded via videography. Statistical analysis was performed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc Tukey tests. Results Flexo files exhibited the highest mean cyclic fatigue resistance (1690.33 ± 456.97 seconds), followed by WaveOne Gold Glider (872.13 ± 210.08 seconds), NiTi K files (760.73 ± 163.86 seconds), S.S. K files (707.60 ± 257.98 seconds), and ProGlider (371.00 ± 66.02 seconds). Fragment length differences were statistically insignificant among the groups. ANOVA showed significant differences in cyclic fatigue resistance but not in fragment length. Conclusion Flexo files showed superior cyclic fatigue resistance, making them ideal for glide path formation. NiTi and S.S. K files with a reciprocating handpiece performed similarly to WaveOne Gold Glider, providing a cost-effective alternative to rotary systems, especially in resource-limited areas. ProGlider had the lowest resistance, highlighting the advantage of reciprocating motion in enhancing durability.
Impact of Angle of File Access and Location of Canal Curvature on the Dynamic Cyclic Fatigue of Nickel Titanium Rotary Instruments

Abstract:Objective: To evaluate the impact of different file access angles and root canal curvature's location on the fatigue failure of One Curve (OC) and E3 Azure (EZ) NiTi files using a dynamic model at simulated body temperature. Methods: Eighty new instruments with similar tip sizes and taper (#25/0.06) from two NiTi rotary systems, One Curve and E3 Azure, were tested at simulated body temperatures (37°C) using a custom-made dynamic cyclic fatigue device. Instruments were divided into four subgroups according to the location of root canal curvature (a coronal curve 5 mm from the root canal orifice and an apical curve 10 mm from the root canal orifice) and the angle of file access (0° or 30°). Instruments were operated in simulated stainless-steel canals having a 60° curve and a 3 mm radius. A custom-made device produced controlled vertical pecks during file rotation. Time to failure (sec) was registered, and the length of the fragment segments was measured (mm). Data were analysed statistically with One-Way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests. The significance level was set at 5%. All separated instruments were examined by scanning electron microscope. Results: One-way ANOVA (p<0.05) found a significant difference among the tested instruments. Post Hoc analysis revealed lower cyclic fatigue resistance when the angle of file access was 30º, and the root canal curvature was located coronally for both files (p<0.0001). Three-way ANOVA showed that the angle of file access was the most influential contributor to cyclic fatigue, followed by the location of file curvature and, finally, the file type (p<0.0001). The fractographic examination revealed a predominantly ductile fracture mode for all tested instruments. The lengths of all fractured segments showed no significant difference (p>0.05), indicating an accurate trajectory during testing. Conclusion: OC files had superior cyclic fatigue resistance than EZ files; coronal curvatures negatively impacted cyclic fatigue resistance compared to apical curvatures, while the angle of file access presented the highest impact on dynamic cyclic fatigue.

The torsional test (ISO 3630-1) evaluated the torque and angle of rotation at failure of new instruments (n = 10) in the portion 3 mm from the tip. The fractured surface of each fragment was also observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In addition, a supplementary examination was performed to measure the cross-sectional area of each instrument 3 and 5 mm from the tip. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s test, and the level of significance was set at 5%.ResultsThe cyclic fatigue resistance values of PDR 25.06 were significantly higher (P < 0.05). RB 25.08 showed higher fatigue resistance than WOG 25.07 (P < 0.05). The torsional test showed that PDR 25.06 had lower torsional strength (P < 0.05). No differences were observed between RB 25.08 and WOG 25.07 (P > 0.05). PDR 25.06 showed higher angular rotation values than RB 25.08 and WOG 25.07 (P < 0.05). RB 25.08 presented higher angular rotation than WOG 25.07 (P < 0.05). The cross-sectional area analysis showed that PDR 25.06 presented the smallest cross-sectional areas at 3 and 5 mm from the tip (P < 0.05).ConclusionPDR 25.06 presented the highest cyclic fatigue resistance and angular rotation until fracture compared to RB 25.08 and WOG 25.07. In addition, RB 25.08 and WOG 25.07 had higher torsional strength than PDR 25.06.Clinical relevanceIn endodontic practice, thermally treated reciprocating instruments have been used for the root canal preparation of curved and constricted canals; therefore, these instruments should present high flexibility and suitable torsional strength to minimize the risk of instrument fracture.

Abstract:The resistance of nickel–titanium endodontic instruments against cyclic fatigue failure remains a significant concern in clinical settings. This study aimed to assess the cyclic fatigue strength of five nickel–titanium rotary systems, while correlating the results with the instruments' geometric and metallurgical characteristics. A total of 250 new instruments (sizes S1/A1, S2/A2, F1/B1, F2/B2, F3/B3) from ProTaper Gold, ProTaper Universal, Premium Taper Gold, Go-Taper Flex, and U-Files systems underwent mechanical testing. Prior to experimental procedures, all instruments were meticulously inspected to identify irregularities that could affect the investigation. Using a stereomicroscope, design characteristics such as the number of spirals, length, spirals per millimeter, and average helical angle of the active blade were determined. The surface finishing characteristics of the instruments were examined using a scanning electron microscope. Differential scanning calorimetry was employed to establish the instruments' phase transformation temperatures, while energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy was utilized to analyze the elemental composition of the alloy. The instruments were subjected to cyclic fatigue testing within a stainless steel non-tapered artificial canal featuring a 6 mm radius and 86 degrees of curvature. Appropriate statistical tests were applied to compare groups, considering a significance level of 0.05. The assessed design characteristics varied depending on the instrument type. The least irregular surface finishing was observed in U-Files and Premium Taper Gold files, while the most irregular surface was noted in Go-Taper Flex. All instruments exhibited near-equiatomic proportions of nickel and titanium elements, whereas ProTaper Universal and U-Files instruments demonstrated lower phase transformation temperatures compared to their counterparts. Larger-sized instruments, as well as ProTaper Universal and U-Files, tended to display lower cyclic fatigue strength results. Overall, the design, metallurgical, and cyclic fatigue outcomes varied among instruments and systems. Understanding these outcomes may assist clinicians in making more informed decisions regarding instrument selection.

Abstract:Introduction: To improve the fracture resistance of nickel-titanium (NiTi) files, manufacturers have introduced new alloys and developed new manufacturing processes for the fabrication of NiTi files. This study aimed to examine the phase transformation behavior and microstructure of NiTi instruments from a novel controlled memory NiTi wire (CM wire). Methods: Instruments of Endo Sequence (ES), Pro File (PF), Pro File Vortex (Vortex), Twisted Files (IF), Typhoon (TYP), and Typhoon (TM) CM (TYP CM), all size 25/.04, were examined by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and x-ray diffraction (XRD). Microstructures of etched instruments were observed by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy with x-ray energy-dispersive spectrometric (EDS) analyses. Results: The DSC analyses showed that each segment of the TYP CM and Vortex instruments had an austenite transformation completion or austenite-finish (A(f)) temperature exceeding 37 degrees C, whereas the NiTi instruments made from conventional superelastic NiTi wire (ES, PF, and TYP) and TF had A(f) temperatures substantially below mouth temperature. The higher A(f) temperature of TYP CM instruments was consistent with a mixture of austenite and martensite structure, which was observed at room temperature with XRD. All NiTi instruments had room temperature martensite microstructures consisting of colonies of lenticular features with substantial twinning. EDS analysis indicated that the precipitates in all NiTi instruments were titanium-rich, with an approximate composition of Ti2Ni. Conclusions: The TYP CM and Vortex instruments with heat treatment contribute to increase austenite transformation temperature. The CM instrument has significant changes in the phase transformation behavior, compared with conventional superelastic NiTi instruments. (1 Endod 2011;37:1566-1571)

Abstract:The objective of this study was to evaluate the cyclic fatigue resistance of novel NiTi files (subjected to heat treatment) using the in vitro model (artificial canal). Twelve ProDesign Logic instruments - PDL 25/.06 (Easy Equipamentos Odontológicos, Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and 12 Protaper Next X2 instruments - PTN (tip 25) were included in this research. The Static cyclic fatigue test was performed with a grooved stainless steel block simulating a canal of 1,5 mm diameters, a 60o angle of curvature and 5 mm radius. The files were positioned inside the artificial canal and rotated until the fracture occurred. Using the time until fracture (seconds) and the number of rotations per minute (RPM), the number of cycles until fracture (NCF) was calculated and the length of ruptured fragments was registered. Three samples from each group were analyzed in Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM) to characterize the metal rupture. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney non-parametric test and the level of significance considered was p<0.05. PDL obtained a mean value of 956,0 NCF (352,0 - SD) and PTN achieved 391,0 NCF (36.7 - SD) with statistical significance between the groups (p 0.05). SEM analysis showed features compatible with ductile fracture. ProDesign LOGIC files showed higher NCF than Protaper Next X2. There was no difference between groups considering the length of the ruptured fragment.
