Abstract:Information and energy related technologies with their huge market potential are a key for the future of our societies.For electronic and optoelectronic devices, e.g., LC(D) or LED based displays and light sources, photovoltaic cells, or sensing devices, there is always tough competition between organic and inorganic materials based systems.Organic materials, however, often show advantages over inorganic materials, such as silicon or II-VI semiconductors, due to their tremendous structural flexibility, the availability of low-cost processing schemes, and the possibility to create (semi)transparent and/or flexible devices.Moreover, a view on the young history of organic electronics shows a rapid increase in device performance and extraordinary technological achievements.One of the ongoing challenges for materials scientists in academia and industry nowadays is the development of novel high-performing and stable organic materials.

Abstract:Organic low-dimensional crystals have garnered escalating interests in the realms of miniaturized optoelectronics and integrated photonics. The continual expansion of molecular systems and improvement in experimental conditions have given rise to unconventional organic low-dimensional crystals, which showcase a variety of appealing structure-dependent properties in the realm of organic semiconductors, owing to their adaptable physicochemical characteristics and exceptional optoelectronics performance. Simultaneously, the development of unabundant possibilities due to their diverse application prospects. Herein, we present a comprehensive further research exploration in this field.

Abstract:The dawn of a new era in optoelectronic technologies has emerged with the recent development of the organic–inorganic hybrid halide perovskite. Its exceptional attributes, including high carrier mobility, an adjustable spectral absorption range, long diffusion lengths, and the simplicity and affordability of fabrication render it one of the most exceptional and market-competitive optoelectronic materials for applications in photovoltaics, light emitting diodes (LED), photodetectors, lasers, and more. Moreover, its versatility in device architecture and ability to achieve relatively high performance devices via various processing techniques makes perovskites a highly promising material for various practical applications. Here, we review the organic–inorganic hybrid halide perovskite and delve into its recent progress and relevant applications.

Abstract:The idea of exploring the bottom brink of material science has been carried out for more than two decades. Clusters science is the frontmost study of all nanoscale structures. Being an example of 0-dimensional quantum dot, nanocluster serves as the bridge between atomic and conventionally understood solid-state physics. The forming mechanism of clusters is found to be the mutual effects of electronic and geometric configuration. It is found that electronic shell structure influences the properties and geometric structure of the cluster until its size becomes larger, where electronic effects submerge in geometric structure. The discrete electronic structures depend on the size and conformation of clusters, which can be controlled artificially for potential device applications. Especially, small clusters with a size of 1-2 nm, whose electronic states are possibly discrete enough to overcome thermal fluctuations, are expected to build a single-electron transistor with room temperature operation. However, exciting as the progress may be seen, cluster science still falls within the territory of merely the extension of atomic and molecular science. Its production rate limits the scientific and potential application research of nanoclusters. It is suggested in this review that the mass-produce ability without losing the atomic precision selectivity would be the milestone for nanoclusters to advance to material science.

Abstract:While a substantial amount of research activity has been conducted in fields related to organic photonics and electronics, including the development of devices such as organic field-effect transistors, organic photovoltaics, and organic light-emitting diodes for applications encompassing organic thermoelectrics, organic batteries, excitonic organic materials for photochemical and optoelectronic applications, and organic thermoelectrics, this perspective review will primarily concentrate on the emerging and rapidly expanding domain of organic bioelectronics and neuromorphics. Here we present the most recent research findings on organic transistors capable of sensing biological biomarkers down at the single-molecule level ( i.e. , oncoproteins, genomes, etc. ) for the early diagnosis of pathological states and to mimic biological synapses, paving the way to neuromorphic applications that surpass the limitations of the traditional von Neumann computing architecture. Both organic bioelectronics and neuromorphics exhibit several challenges but will revolutionize human life, considering the development of artificial synapses to counteract neurodegenerative disorders and the development of ultrasensitive biosensors for the early diagnosis of cancer to prevent its development. Moreover, organic bioelectronics for sensing applications have also triggered the development of several wearable, flexible and stretchable biodevices for continuous biomarker monitoring.

Abstract:One-dimensional inorganic nanostructures have drawn prime attention due to their potential for understanding fundamental physical concepts and constructing nanoscale electronic and optoelectronic devices. This critical review mainly focuses on our recent research progresses in 1D inorganic nanostructures, including their rational synthesis and potential applications, with an emphasis on field-emitter and photodetector applications. Firstly, we will discuss the rational design of synthetic strategies and the synthesis of 1D nanostructures via a vapour phase approach. Secondly, we will present our recent progresses with respect to several kinds of important inorganic nanostructures and their field-emission and photoconductivity characteristics. Finally, we conclude this review with some perspectives/outlook and future research in these fields (212 references).
