Engineering Structures
Abstract:Prestressed structures are widely employed in various engineering constructions due to their excellent performance characteristics such as minimal cracking, high stiffness, and economically low-carbon. However, with increasing service life, prestressed structures face challenges including durability and degradation of long-term performance. This study conducted long-term performance monitoring experiment during 11 months on prestressed concrete structures under variable temperature and humidity conditions. A total of 25 wet-dry cycles were conducted in the experiment after 120-day curation, with each cycle lasting 7 days, and conducted in the order of wet for 3 days and dry for 4 days. The long-term shrinkage and creep of centrally compressed prestressed concrete structures are observed, followed by numerical simulations. The study summarizes the differences in deformation and prestress variation of prestressed structures under natural environmental conditions and dry-wet cycling conditions. By analyzing the consistency between internal humidity and environmental humidity changes, the study proposes the depth and range of humidity influence. Results indicate that increased environmental humidity is beneficial in reducing long-term deformation of concrete by the shrinkage and creep coefficients, thereby slowing down the loss of structural prestress, with humidity primarily affecting prestress at the periphery of concrete. Besides, long-term prestress variation in concrete structures under humidity influence has size effect. The multi-physics and multi-scale analysis approach adopted in this paper can predict the size effect of long-term prestress variation in concrete structures under humidity influence, which provided a feasible method for long-term performance prediction of prestressed engineering structures and large-span bridges.
