Abstract:On the basis of the analysis of existed definitions of conflict of interest,this paper firstly suggests a new definition of it on a different perspective.Secondly,this paper analyzes the issue of structure,and then lists various types of conflict of interest.After analyzing the ethical problem of it,this paper thirdly brings in some solutions.Finally,this paper discusses the code of ethics of major engineering society as well as the code of conduct of large corporations concerning the issue of conflict of interest.

Abstract:The current state of the research on unsaturated soils was reviewed.Then,the relationship between unsaturated soil behavior and engineering problems was discussed.The relevant engineering problems included air and water flow,wetting/drying-induced ground movement,slope stability,earth pressures and bearing capacity in unsaturated soils.Finally,some ideas were proposed on the further research towards the application of unsaturated soil theories in engineering practice.

Abstract:Engineers play an integrated role of a company employee,an ordinary citizen,and an enterprise manager in the social life,each of which has its own responsibilities,aspirations and others’expectations.Engineers are thereby faced with the resulting dilemma of behavior selections of different roles,and thus the role morality con-flict arises.The paper attempts to present a tackling and settlement mechanism by analyzing its contexts.At a macro level,we can proceed from the engineering professional construction to establish the institutional environment for con-flict resolution and perfect it as well;at the micro level,we should foster individual engineers'moral autonomy by considering their moral psychology,enabling engineers to internalize external standards as their own principles of moral behavior.Considering that the role morality conflict occurs in concrete contexts and engineering practice con-tains moral practice in itself,engineering practice is the only solution to the role morality conflict.

Abstract:The theory lags far behind the engineering practice,though the composite ground under flexible foundation has been widely applied to several engineering fields,such as embankments of highway and railway,dams,tailing dams,stack yards.Combined with the present situation analysis of analytical method,the settlement characteristics of the composite ground under flexible foundation was summarized firstly.Then,a simplified analytical solution was presented briefly.The fellowing verification by an engineering case indicates that the solution can more accurately reflect the working behavior of the composite ground under a flexible foundation.And then,on a basis of a standard example,the relationships among eight influence factors and the height of the equal settlement plane,the depth of the neutral point,the stab deformation,the settlement of pile and soil etc.were studied through the solution.It can be concluded that the factors of the four components of the system can all affect the settlement characteristics more or less.It is necessary to pay more attention to the composite ground under flexible foundation based on super-sub structure interaction.

Abstract:Engineering ethics are both a kind of professional ethics and practical ethics. Its method is multi-dimensional. Philosophical, casuistical, technical, social and professional methods are all suitable for it. Through analyzing the issue of how to set up conventional procedures of engineering ethics as well as its focus areas, this paper draws the conclusion that technical competence and moral integrity are two principal values which together contribute to the term “professionalism”. The professional trust which the public endow engineering profession with and the professional credit which the public expect an engineer to have are necessary for building up the harmonious society.

Abstract:The long-term uneven settlement may cause the pipe structure cracking, leakage or even serious damage during the operation of the immersed tunnel. Settlement control measures of immersed tunnel were generalized from design-construction-operation three stages as the time order, and the control measures in the construction stage was particular emphasized. The treatment methods of the base layer were reclassified into compact the base, replace the base and pile base three types and relative project cases were enumerated. Contrary to the shortage of present stage, control measures and suggestion that fit soft base were raised after compare.

Abstract:The compacting effects caused by static piling in saturated soft clay ground may have severe influence on engineering environment (the driven soils around the pile and the near buildings). The research history dates back to the early 1950's. However, no satisfactory results have been obtained because of the complexities of the problem. In this paper, a brief summary of the methods and conclusions reached by former researchers is presented. Several mechanical problems conceding the compacting effect are studied in detail. Abstract:The settlement of immersed tube tunnel may be influenced by variety factors in construction, operation and loads. The factors causing the immersed tube tunnel settlement were summarized and described in-depth by cases and data. Combined the mechanism analysis with the construction process, the action time of different loads along the construction process is summarized, the consolidation characteristics and settlement mechanism of original state soil layer and base layer are analyzed. The mechanisms and variations of tidal loading, siltation and dredging disturbance, groundwater level drawdown are elaborated.

Abstract:By fully utilizing its locational advantage, Dongguan has experienced dramatic economic development and urban growth since adoption of the open-door policies in 1978. However, under the practice of rural industrialization and urbanization, some serious problems have so far emerged which have drawn much attention of academic researchers and all levels of governments. Based on the in-site fieldwork and questionnaire, this paper systemically analyses the major problems currently faced by the city, including the low efficiency of land use, the problem of migrants, the inadequacy of infrastructures, and etc. Afterwards some countermeasures are put forward.
