A Study on the Role Morality Conflict of Engineers

Abstract:Engineers play an integrated role of a company employee,an ordinary citizen,and an enterprise manager in the social life,each of which has its own responsibilities,aspirations and others’expectations.Engineers are thereby faced with the resulting dilemma of behavior selections of different roles,and thus the role morality con-flict arises.The paper attempts to present a tackling and settlement mechanism by analyzing its contexts.At a macro level,we can proceed from the engineering professional construction to establish the institutional environment for con-flict resolution and perfect it as well;at the micro level,we should foster individual engineers'moral autonomy by considering their moral psychology,enabling engineers to internalize external standards as their own principles of moral behavior.Considering that the role morality conflict occurs in concrete contexts and engineering practice con-tains moral practice in itself,engineering practice is the only solution to the role morality conflict.
