Abstract:This article deals with two time-scale polytopic linear systems in the singular perturbation form and in discrete-time. The aim is to propose well-conditioned convex conditions for stability analysis and control design. As the classical LTI time-scale separation-based approach is not successful in the case of polytopic singularly perturbed systems, our method leads to linear matrix inequality conditions independent of the singular perturbation parameter and offers an interesting solution from a numerical point of view. In addition, the conservatism of the proposed approach is limited as it is based on parameter-dependent Lyapunov functions. A numerical example taken from the literature illustrates the effectiveness of the given stabilisation conditions.

One special group of 4 cases was isolated from these 11 cases in which papillomas grew very rapidly and were resistant to all management. Biological activity evaluation of magnesium fluoride coated Mg-Zn-Zr alloy in vivo

Abstract:Aim: To explore the biodegradable characteristics and biological properties, which could promote new bone formation, of MgF2 coated magnesium alloy (Mg-3wt%Zn-0.5wt%Zr) in rabbits. Methods: Magnesium alloy with MgF2 coating was made and the MgF2/Mg-Zn-Zr was implanted in the femoral condyle of rabbits. Twelve healthy adult Japanese white rabbits in weight of 2.8-3.2kg were averagely divided into A(Mg-Zn-Zr) group and B(MgF2/MgZn-Zr) group. Indexes such as microstructural evolution, SEM scan, X-ray, Micro-CT and mechanical properties were observed and detected at 1th day, 2th, 4th, 8th, 12th, 24th week after implantation. Results: Low-density regions occurred around the cancellous bone, and the regions gradually expanded during the 12weeks after implantation. The implant was gradually absorbed from 12 to 24weeks. The density of surrounding cancellous bone increased compared with the 12th week data. The degradation rate of B group was lower than that of A group (P<0.01), while the density of the surrounding cancellous bone increased more evenly. In B group, SEM images after 12weeks showed the rich bone tissues on the alloy surface that were attached by active fibers. Micro-CT also presented alloy residue potholes on the surfaces of alloy combinated with bone tissues. Additionally, the trabecular bone had relatively integrated structures with surrounding cavities. Conclusions: MgF2 can effectively decrease the degradation rate of Mg-Zn-Zr in vivo. Mg-Zn-Zr coated with MgF2 can effectively inhibit the corrosion, and delay the release of magnesium ions. The biological properties of the coating itself presented good biocompatibility and bioactivity.

Abstract:Biodegradable porous Mg scaffolds are a promising approach to bone repair. In this work, 3D-spherical porous Mg–1.5Zn–0.2Ca (wt.%) scaffolds were prepared by vacuum infiltration casting technology, and MgF 2 and fluorapatite coatings were designed to control the degradation behavior of Mg-based scaffolds. The results showed that the pores in Mg-based scaffolds were composed of the main spherical pores (450–600 μm) and interconnected pores (150–200 μm), and the porosity was up to 74.97%. Mg-based porous scaffolds exhibited sufficient mechanical properties with a compressive yield strength of about 4.04 MPa and elastic modulus of appropriately 0.23 GPa. Besides, both MgF 2 coating and fluorapatite coating could effectively improve the corrosion resistance of porous Mg-based scaffolds. In conclusion, this research would provide data support and theoretical guidance for the application of biodegradable porous Mg-based scaffolds in bone tissue engineering.

Abstract:Boar rete testis fluid and luminal contents from nine epididymal segments were collected for analysis. From proximal to distal, segments were designated A, B, C (caput), Da, Db, Ea (corpus) and Eb, Fa, Fb (cauda). Concentrations of sperm, protein and soluble sperm membrane glycoprotein S2P3 were lowest in the caput epididymidis (region A) and highest in the proximal corpus epididymidis (region Da). At region Da, approximately 94% of the fluid that had entered the epididymis had been reabsorbed. More total protein was found in the luminal fluid of region Da than could be accounted for on the basis of concentration via fluid removal. The proximal cauda epididymidis was the major luminal protein-removing region. However, large amounts of glycoprotein S2P3 were removed from the luminal fluids during passage through the caput epididymidis, and smaller amounts were removed during passage through the cauda epididymidis.
Research on corrosion behavior and biocompatibility of a porous Mg-3%Zn/5%β-Ca3(PO4)2 composite scaffold for bone tissue engineering

Abstract:Background: Rapid corrosion rates are a major impediment to the use of magnesium alloys in bone tissue engineering despite their good mechanical properties and biodegradability. Zinc is a promising alloy element, and it is an effective grain refiner for magnesium. β-Ca3(PO4)2 (β-TCP) is widely used for bone regeneration because of its good biocompatibility, and it also has a similar chemical and crystal structure to human bone. Methods: In this research, the magnesium alloy was reinforced by adding 3%Zn (wt.%) and 5%β-TCP (wt.%) particles in order to improve the corrosion resistance and biocompatibility. Furthermore, the biomaterial was prepared through powder metallurgy technology using NH4HCO3 as space-holding particles to construct porous Mg-3%Zn/5%β-TCP scaffolds. Results: The results revealed that the magnesium-zinc phase and calcium phosphate phase were uniformly distributed in the α-magnesium matrix. Mechanical and corrosion tests indicated that the scaffolds had mechanical strengths similar to that of human bone, and their corrosion resistance decreased with an increase in the porosity. The scaffolds had cytotoxicity grades of 0-1 against MG63 cells, SaoS2 cells, and HK-2 cells, which suggested that they were appropriate for cellular applications. In addition, the scaffolds demonstrated excellent biocompatibility when tested in rabbits. Conclusions: These results indicate that porous Mg-3%Zn/5%β-TCP scaffolds are promising biodegradable implants for bone tissue engineering.
Additive manufacturing of Zn-Mg alloy porous scaffolds with enhanced osseointegration: In vitro and in vivo studies

Abstract:Biodegradable metals (BM) and additive manufacturing (AM) are regarded revolutionary biomaterials and biofabrication technologies for bone repairing metal implants, the combination of both, namely AM of BM, is thus expected to solve the dual technical difficulties including "conventional medical metals are biologically inert and exist in the human body permanently" and "conventional manufacturing processes are inadequate to fabricate personalized implants of complicated structure". This work additively manufactured biodegradable Zn-Mg alloy porous scaffolds by laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF). By using the pre-alloyed Zn-xMg (x = 1, 2 and 5 wt.%) powder and the optimized processing conditions, high fusion quality with the relative density greater than 99.5% was confirmed for the L-PBF parts. The influence of Mg content on microstructure, mechanical properties, in vitro corrosion, cytocompatibility, in vivo degradation, biocompatibility and osteogenic effect was investigated. Fine α-Zn grains and precipitation phases including Mg2Zn11 and MgZn2 were observed in the Zn-xMg L-PBF parts. The hardness increased, and the strength increases firstly and then decreased with increasing the Mg content. The compressive strength and elastic modulus of Zn-1Mg porous scaffolds reached the highest as 40.9 ± 0.4 MPa and 1.17 ± 0.11 GPa respectively, equivalent to those of cancellous bone. The corrosion rate and cell viability slightly rose with increasing the Mg content. Histological analysis after 6-week and 12-week implantation in rabbit femurs showed enhanced bone formation around the Zn-1Mg porous scaffolds compared with pure Zn counterparts. In summary, Zn-1Mg porous scaffolds produced by L-PBF presented promising results to fulfill customized requirements of biodegradable bone implants.Statement of significanceAdditive manufacturing of biodegradable metal porous scaffolds is expected to solve the dual challenges from customized structures and bioactive function required for bone implants. It was the first to present a systematic in vitro and in vivo investigation into the compositions, microstructure, mechanical properties, biodegradation, biocompatibility and osteogenic effect of additively manufactured Zn-Mg alloy porous scaffolds. Reliable formation quality and performance evaluation was achieved by using the pre-alloyed Zn-xMg (x=1, 2 and 5 wt.%) powder and the optimized laser powder bed fusion process. Although the Zn-1Mg scaffolds exhibited promising mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and osteogenic effect, their degradation rate needs to be further accelerated compared with the term of bone reconstruction.

Abstract:Laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) of magnesium (Mg) alloy porous scaffolds is expected to solve the dual challenges from customized structures and biodegradable functions required for repairing bone defects. However, one of the key technical difficulties lies in the poor L-PBF process performance of Mg, contributed by the high susceptibility to oxidation, vaporization, thermal expansion, and powder attachment etc. This work investigated the influence of L-PBF energy input and scanning strategy on the formation quality of porous scaffolds by using WE43 powder, and characterized the microstructure, mechanical properties, biocompatibility, biodegradation and osteogenic effect of the as-built WE43 porous scaffolds. With the customized energy input and scanning strategy, the relative density of struts reached over 99.5%, and the geometrical error between the designed and the fabricated porosity declined to below 10%. Massive secondary phases including intermetallic precipitates and oxides were observed. The compressive strength (4.37-23.49 MPa) and elastic modulus (154.40-873.02 MPa) were comparable to those of cancellous bone. Good biocompatibility was observed by in vitro cell viability and in vivo implantation. The biodegradation of as-built porous scaffolds promoted the osteogenic effect, but the structural integrity devastated after 12 h by the immersion tests in Hank's solution and after 4 weeks by the implantation in rabbits' femur, indicating an excessively rapid degradation rate.

Abstract:Magnesium (Mg) alloys have been promised for biomedical implants in orthopedic field, however, the fast corrosion rate and mode challenge their clinical application. To push Mg alloys materials into practice, a composite coating with biodegradable and high compatible components to improve anticorrosion property of an Mg alloy (i.e., AZ31) is designed and fabricated. The inner layer is micro-nano structured Mg(OH)2 through hydrothermal treatment. Then stearic acid (SA) is introduced to modify Mg(OH)2 for better reducing the gap below a surface-degradation polymer layer of poly(1,3-trimethylene carbonate). Benefited by the SA modification effect, this sandwiched coating avoids corrosive medium penetration via enhancing the adhesion strength at the interface between outer and inner layers. Both in vitro and in vivo tests indicate that the composite coating modified AZ31 perform a better anticorrosion behavior and biocompatibility compared to bare AZ31. Strikingly, a 1.7-fold improvement in volume of newly formed bone is observed surrounding the composite coating modified implant after 12 week implantation. The sandwiched biocompatible coating strategy paves a hopeful way for future translational application of Mg alloys orthopedic materials in clinics.
Compression properties, in vitro degradation behavior and biocompatibility of porous Mg-1Zn-1Ca-0.5Mn alloy scaffolds with different pore parameters

Abstract:In this work, Mg-1Zn-1Ca-0.5Mn with good biocompatibility is selected as the alloy component, and porous magnesium alloy scaffolds with different pore sizes and porosity are prepared by changing the particle size and prepressure of NaCl template in the process of seepage casting, so as to explore their effects on the properties of porous magnesium alloy scaffolds. The effect of passivation layer on the degradation rate and the vitro biological behavior of porous magnesium alloy with different pore size and porosity after surface passivation are studied. The experimental results show that the mechanical properties are inversely proportional to the porosity parameters. The degradation experiment shows that the corrosion rate of porous Mg-1Zn-1Ca-0.5Mn alloy with porosity of 74.34 % decreased to 0.94 mm/year. In vitro degradation experiment found that passivation layer had a significant protective effect on porous magnesium alloy, and the corrosion rate of porous Mg-1Zn-1Ca-0.5Mn alloy with a porosity of 74.34 % after surface passivation is soaked in Hanks' solution for 15 days is only 0.07 mm/year. The passivated porous magnesium alloy shows good cellular activity and biocompatibility, and the passivated porous Mg-1Zn-1Ca-0.5Mn alloy shows better osteogenic differentiation ability in the gene expression test. This study provides more options for the different structures of porous magnesium alloys and provides a feasible method for the surface fluorination coating of porous magnesium alloys. This work discussed the mechanism of the effect of pore structure difference on porous magnesium alloy, which is of great significance for the application of porous magnesium alloy in bone repair.

Optimization of the in Vitro Biodegradability, Cytocompatibility, and Wear Resistance of the AZ31B Alloy by Micro-Arc Oxidation Coatings Doped with Zinc Phosphate

Abstract:As implanted bone fixation materials, magnesium (Mg) alloys have significant advantages because the density and elastic modulus are closest to those of the human bone and they can bio-degrade in the physiological environment. However, Mg alloys degrade too rapidly and uncontrollably thus hampering clinical adoption. In this study, a highly corrosion-resistant zinc-phosphate-doped micro-arc oxidation (MAO) coating is prepared on the AZ31B alloy, and the degradation process is assessed in vitro. With increasing zinc phosphate concentrations, both the corrosion potentials and charge transfer resistance of the AZ31B alloy coated with MAO coatings increase gradually, while the corrosion current densities di-minish gradually. Immersion tests in the simulated body fluid (SBF) reveal that the increased zinc phos-phate concentration in MAO coating decreases the degradation rate, consequently reducing the release rates of Mg2+ and OH - in the physiological micro-environment, which obtains the lowest weight loss of only 5.22% after immersion for 56 days. Effective regulation of degradation provides a weak alkaline environment that is suitable for long-term cell growth and subsequent promotion of bone proliferation, differentiation, mineralization, and cytocompatibility. In addition, the zinc-phosphate-doped MAO coat-ings show an improved wear resistance as manifested by a wear rate of only 3.81 x 10 -5 mm3 N -1 m -1 . Abstract:Porous biodegradable Mg and its alloys are considered to have a great potential to serve as ideal bone substitutes. The recent progress in additive manufacturing (AM) has prompted its application to fabricate Mg scaffolds with geometrically ordered porous structures. Extrusion-based AM, followed by debinding and sintering, has been recently demonstrated as a powerful approach to fabricating such Mg scaffolds, which can avoid some crucial problems encountered when applying powder bed fusion AM techniques. However, such pure Mg scaffolds exhibit a too high rate of in vitro biodegradation. In the present research, alloying through a pre-alloyed Mg-Zn powder was ultilized to enhance the corrosion resistance and mechanical properties of AM geometrically ordered Mg-Zn scaffolds simultaneously. The in vitro biodegradation behavior, mechanical properties, and electrochemical response of the fabricated Mg-Zn scaffolds were evaluated. Moreover, the response of preosteoblasts to these scaffolds was systematically evaluated and compared with their response to pure Mg scaffolds. The Mg-Zn scaffolds with a porosity of 50.3% and strut density of 93.1% were composed of the Mg matrix and MgZn2 second phase particles. The in vitro biodegradation rate of the Mg-Zn scaffolds decreased by 81% at day 1, as compared to pure Mg scaffolds. Over 28 days of static immersion in modified simulated body fluid, the corrosion rate of the Mg-Zn scaffolds decreased from 2.3 ± 0.9 mm/y to 0.7 ± 0.1 mm/y. The yield strength and Young's modulus of the Mg-Zn scaffolds were about 3 times as high as those of pure Mg scaffolds and remained within the range of those of trabecular bone throughout the biodegradation tests. Indirect culture of MC3T3-E1 preosteoblasts in Mg-Zn extracts indicated favorable cytocompatibility. In direct cell culture, some cells could spread and form filopodia on the surface of the Mg-Zn scaffolds. Overall, this study demonstrates the great potential of the extrusion-based AM Mg-Zn scaffolds to be further developed as biodegradable bone-substituting biomaterials.

Quality of life in prostate cancer patients

Abstract:Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men. It affects middleaged and older men and usually has an indolent but progressive clinical course. Patients are often diagnosed when, because of age or other illnesses, they are less able to withstand disease-related morbidity. Further, for both localized and advanced disease they face a range of therapeutic options associated with troublesome side effects and functional impairments. These facts, coupled with recent intense media coverage, have raised public awareness of prostate cancer in general and focused much-needed attention on quality-of-life issues facing prostate cancer patients. The quality of life of men with prostate cancer has been studied less than that of patients with other neoplasms. As yet no comprehensive understanding exists of the physical, vocational, psychological, social, and sexual functioning in men with prostate cancer over the natural course of the disease. This report reviews current quality-oflife concepts in early and advanced prostate cancer, suggests how they may be integrated into patient care, and proposes relevant questions for research.
In vivo comparison of the degradation and osteointegration properties of micro-arc oxidation-coated Mg-Sr and Mg-Ca alloy scaffolds

Abstract:Background: Magnesium (Mg) alloy have biodegradation and mechanical properties that are similar to those of human bone, making it a promising candidate material for inclusion in implantable medical devices. Objective: The osteointegration effect of Mg alloy scaffolds with different corrosion rates were studied and evaluated in large bone defect models. Method: Mg-Sr and Mg-Ca alloy scaffolds with a 20-μm Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) coating were used to repair critical bone defects for subsequent assessment of each alloy's degradation and osteointegration by X-ray, Micro-CT, fluorescence and histological examination. Results: At 12 weeks post-implantation, each defect was found to be effectively reconstructed by either of the Mg alloys based on X-ray and Micro-CT images. The corrosion rate (CR) of each Mg alloy - as calculated based on micro-computed tomography information - demonstrated that the MAO coating could provide effective protection for only 4 weeks post-surgery. From weeks 8 to 12, the CR of the Mg-Ca alloy scaffold increased from 1.34 ± 0.23 mm/y to 1.57 ± 0.16 mm/y. In contrast, the CR of the Mg-Sr alloy scaffold decreased from 0.58 ± 0.14 mm/y to 0.54 ± 0.16 mm/y. However, fluorescence and histological examination revealed more mature, closely and regularly arranged newborn osteocytes at the Mg-Ca scaffold-fracture interface e from weeks 8 to 12 after surgery. Conclusion: The Mg-Sr scaffold was more corrosion resistant and the Mg-Ca scaffold yielded a better overall repair, which indicates that the CR of magnesium alloys matches the rate of new bone formation and is the key to repair bone defects as a bone substitute.
Magnesium surface-activated 3D printed porous PEEK scaffolds for in vivo osseointegration by promoting angiogenesis and osteogenesis

Abstract:Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has been an alternative material for titanium in bone defect repair, but its clinical application is limited by its poor osseointegration. In this study, a porous structural design and activated surface modification were used to enhance the osseointegration capacity of PEEK materials. Porous PEEK scaffolds were manufactured via fused deposition modeling and a polydopamine (PDA) coating chelated with magnesium ions (Mg2+) was utilized on the surface. After surface modification, the hydrophilicity of PEEK scaffolds was significantly enhanced, and bioactive Mg2+ could be released. In vitro results showed that the activated surface could promote cell proliferation and adhesion and contribute to osteoblast differentiation and mineralization; the released Mg2+ promoted angiogenesis and might contribute to the formation of osteogenic H-type vessels. Furthermore, porous PEEK scaffolds were implanted in rabbit femoral condyles for in vivo evaluation of osseointegration. The results showed that the customized three-dimensional porous structure facilitated vascular ingrowth and bone ingrowth within the PEEK scaffolds. The PDA coating enhanced the interfacial osseointegration of porous PEEK scaffolds and the released Mg2+ accelerated early bone ingrowth by promoting early angiogenesis during the coating degradation process. This study provides an efficient solution for enhancing the osseointegration of PEEK materials, which has high potential for translational clinical applications.

In vitro degradation and in vivo osteogenesis of Mg-Zn-Nd-Zr/HA composites prepared by friction stir processing

Abstract:Highlights • The Mg-Zn-Nd-Zr/HA composites exhibit higher osteogenic activity in vivo differently from in vitro osteogenic expression. • The corrosion behavior of Mg-Zn-Nd-Zr/HA composites prepared by friction stir processing depends on comprehensive effects of grain refinement and localized corrosion. • Severe plastic deformation by stirring friction processing in composites preparation leads to significant grain refinement, improved mechanical properties and uniform distribution of reinforcements. • A guiding principle for the design of degradable magnesium matrix composites should be based on comprehensive consideration of the processing method, type, content and distribution of the reinforcement, especially the effect of powder agglomeration on the degradation behavior and biological properties. Biodegradable magnesium-matrix composites (BMMCs) added with bone-like compounds such as hydroxyapatite (HA) have promising orthopedic application potential, but the in vivo results of BMMCs are insufficient, and the difference between in vitro and in vivo are not clarified. In this work, Mg-Zn-Nd-Zr/(10/15/20wt%) HA (Ca 10 (PO 4 ) 6 OH 2 ) composites were prepared through friction stirring processing (FSP). It was found that corrosion rate of the composites increased with increase of the HA content, where the corrosion rate from hydrogen evolution of the Mg/10wt% HA was about 0.107 mm/y, showing better corrosion resistance compared with other BMMCs, and the agglomeration of HA powders significantly aggravated the localized corrosion. The ALP specific activity of the MC3T3-E1 cells cultured for 14 days with Mg/10wt% HA (2.12 IU/mg) was higher than that of the matrix (1.85 IU/mg), but there was no difference with the FSP group (2.13 IU/mg). In the early implantation of the rabbit femur, bone volume fraction (BV/TV) of Mg/10wt% HA was 10.69, which was higher than that of the FSP group (6.35). The histological staining showed that the Mg/10wt% HA implant was surrounded by more trabecular bone tissue, exhibiting better osteoinductive regeneration. The Mg-Zn-Nd-Zr/HA composites exhibit higher osteogenic activity in vivo differently from in vitro osteogenic expression.

Abstract:Bone fractures/defects are normal in more established individuals experiencing osteoporosis. In this work, we have explored osteoblast bond, multiplication, and separation on biocomposites of bioactive dual minerals substituted hydroxyapatite/alginate-chitosan/graphene oxide porous biocomposites coated magnesium alloy (AZ91 Mg alloy). Hydroxyapatite is one the most important mineral constituents for bony which, due to its bioactive and histocompatible properties, is commonly used as a material for hard tissue substitution. However, the use of apatite as hard tissue implants is restricted due to its fragile nature and reduced mechanical properties. To overcome this defect and to generate suitable bone implant material, dual minerals substituted hydroxyapatite (DM-HAP) is combined with biodegradable polymer alginate-chitosan (ALG-CS). Graphene oxide (GO) is integrated into the biocomposite, which has long been believed for soft and hard tissue implants owing to its excellent structural and mechanical properties, to enhance the mechanical properties of the biocomposite. Graphene oxide grounds are most important for the reconstruction of bone; new, outstanding DM-HAP/ALG-CS/GO scaffold on Mg alloy has been developed. As developed coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX). Besides, the mechanical strength of the coating has also been assessed using adhesion and Vickers micro-hardness tests. In furtherer, the antibacterial activity of the composite was studied against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and cell viability were observed in vitro against osteoblast cells and in vivo in rats. As a result, the results obtained propose that DM-HAP/ALG-CS/GO biocomposite can be believed as a prospective applicant for biomedical applications.

Abstract:Magnesium alloys have the great potential to be used as orthopedic implants due to their biodegradability and mechanical resemblance to human cortical bone. However, the rapid degradation in physiological environment with the evolution of hydrogen gas release hinders their clinical applications. In this study, we developed a novel functional and biocompatible coating strategy through polydopamine mediated assembly of hydroxyapatite nanoparticles and growth factor, bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2), onto the surface of AZ31 Mg alloys. Such functional coating has strong bonding with the substrate and can increase surface hydrophilicity of magnesium alloys. In vitro electrochemical corrosion and hydrogen evolution tests demonstrate that the coating can significantly enhance the corrosion resistance and therefore slow down the degradation of AZ31 Mg alloys. In vitro cell culture reveals that immobilization of HA nanoparticles and BMP-2 can obviously promote cell adhesion and proliferation. Furthermore, in vivo implantation tests indicate that with the synergistic effects of HA nanoparticles and BMP-2, the coating does not cause obvious inflammatory response and can significantly reduce the biodegradation rate of the magnesium alloys and induce the new bone formation adjacent to the implants. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract:Mg-based porous materials, as potential bone tissue engineering scaffolds, are considered an attractive strategy for bone repair owing to favorable biodegradability, good biocompatibility and suitable mechanical properties. In this work, 3D-cubic interconnected porous Mg–xZn–0.3Ca (x = 0,3,6) scaffolds were prepared to obtain desirable pore structures with a mean porosity up to 73% and main pore size of 400–500 µm, which pore structures were close to the human cancellous bone. The structure–property relationships in the present scaffolds were analyzed by experiments and theoretical models of generalized method of cells (GMC). Mg–xZn–0.3Ca scaffolds exhibited good compression properties with a maximum above 5 MPa in yield strength and about 0.4 GPa in elastic modulus. This was attributed to not only the alloy strengthening but also the large minimum solid area. On the other hand, the scaffolds showed undesirable and relatively serious degradation behavior in Hank's solution, resulting from Zn addition in Mg-based scaffolds and the high surface area ratio in the pore structure. Therefore, surface modifications are worth studying for controlled degradation in the future. In conclusion, this research would explore a novel attempt to introduce 3D-cubic pore structure for Mg-based scaffolds, and provide new insights into the preparations of Mg-based scaffolds with good service performances for bone repair.
