Abstract:We introduce and study a geometric heat flow to find Killing vector fields on closed Riemannian manifolds with positive sectional curvature. We study its various properties, prove the global existence of the solution to this flow, discuss its convergence and possible applications, and its relation to the Navier-Stokes equations on manifolds and Kazdan-Warner-Bourguignon-Ezin identity for conformal Killing vector fields. We also provide two new criterions on the existence of Killing vector fields. A similar flow to finding holomorphic vector fields on Kähler manifolds will be studied by Li and Liu (2014).

Abstract:The tangent bundle of a Riemannian manifold (M,g) with non-degenerated g-natural metric G that admits a Killing vector field is investigated. Using Taylor's formula (TM,G) is decomposed into four classes that are investigated separately. The equivalence of the existence of Killing vector field on M and TM is proved. Abstract:On Hermitian manifolds, the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. By refining the Bochner formulas for any Hermitian complex vector bundle (and Riemannian real vector bundle) with an arbitrary metric connection over a compact Hermitian manifold, we can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and complex vector bundles by the second Ricci curvature tensors. We will also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.

Abstract:In this thesis, we consider geometric properties of vector bundles arising from algebraic and Hermitian geometry. On vector bundles in algebraic geometry, such as ample, nef and globally generated vector bundles, we are able to construct positive Hermitian metrics in different senses(e.g. Griffiths-positive, Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive) by L2-method and deduce many new vanishing theorems for them by analytic method instead of the Le Potier-Leray spectral sequence method. On Hermitian manifolds, we find that the second Ricci curvature tensors of various metric connections are closely related to the geometry of Hermitian manifolds. We can derive various vanishing theorems for Hermitian manifolds and also for complex vector bundles over Hermitian manifolds by their second Ricci curvature tensors. We also introduce a natural geometric flow on Hermitian manifolds by using the second Ricci curvature tensor.

Abstract:Hano's theorem states that the space of Killing vector fields of a complete simply connected Riemannian manifold is isomorphic to the direct sum of the Killing vector fields of the factors in its de Rham decomposition. We prove a generalisation of this theorem to manifolds with indefinite metrics that requires an assumption on the factors, and show by example why this assumption is needed.

Abstract:We give a complete local classification of all Riemannian 3-manifolds $(M,g)$ admitting a nonvanishing Killing vector field $T$. We then extend this classification to timelike Killing vector fields on Lorentzian 3-manifolds, which are automatically nonvanishing. The two key ingredients needed in our classification are the scalar curvature $S$ of $g$ and the function $\text{Ric}(T,T)$, where $\text{Ric}$ is the Ricci tensor; in fact their sum appears as the Gaussian curvature of the quotient metric obtained from the action of $T$. Our classification generalizes that of Sasakian structures, which is the special case when $\text{Ric}(T,T) = 2$. We also give necessary, and separately, sufficient conditions, both expressed in terms of $\text{Ric}(T,T)$, for $g$ to be locally conformally flat. We then move from the local to the global setting, and prove two results: in the event that $T$ has unit length and the coordinates derived in our classification are globally defined on $\mathbb{R}^3$, we give conditions under which $S$ completely determines when the metric will be geodesically complete. In the event that the 3-manifold $M$ is compact, we give a condition stating when it admits a metric of constant positive sectional curvature.

Abstract:Let $ (M, g) $ be an $ n $-dimensional (pseudo-)Riemannian manifold and $ TM $ be its tangent bundle $ TM $ equipped with the complete lift metric $ ^{C}g $. First, we define a Ricci quarter-symmetric metric connection $ \overline{\nabla } $ on the tangent bundle $ TM $ equipped with the complete lift metric $ ^{C}g $. Second, we compute all forms of the curvature tensors of $ \overline{\nabla } $ and study their properties. We also define the mean connection of $ \overline{\nabla } $. Ricci and gradient Ricci solitons are important topics studied extensively lately. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the tangent bundle $ TM $ to become a Ricci soliton and a gradient Ricci soliton concerning $ \overline{\nabla } $ are presented. Finally, we search conditions for the tangent bundle $ TM $ to be locally conformally flat with respect to $ \overline{\nabla } $.

Abstract:Modern Physics Letters A, Ahead of Print. The aim of this paper is to obtain magnetic trajectories corresponding to contact magnetic fields in Lorentzian [math]-Sasakian 3-manifolds. First, we provide the definitions of the magnetic field and the Lorentzian equation used in this paper and derive the expression for the Bott connection by using the Levi-Civita connection. Then we derive the expression of Killing vector fields by using the Killing equation. At the same time, we obtain the explicit formulas for the Killing magnetic curves related to Bott connection. In addition, we provide an example for each type of Killing magnetic curve.

Abstract:Near horizon geometries with multiply degenerate Killing horizons are considered, and their degenerate Killing vector fields identified. We prove that they all arise from hypersurface-orthogonal Killing vectors of any cut of with the inherited metric—cuts are spacelike co-dimension two submanifolds contained in . For each of these Killing vectors on a given cut, there are three different possibilities for the near horizon metric which are presented explicitly. The structure of the metric for near horizon geometries with multiple Killing horizons of order is thereby completely determined, and in particular we prove that the cuts on must be warped products with maximally symmetric fibers (ergo of constant curvature). The question whether multiple degenerate Killing horizons may lead to inequivalent near horizon geometries by using different degenerate Killings is addressed, and answered on the negative: all near horizon geometries built from a given multiple degenerate Killing horizon (using different degenerate Killings) are locally isometric.

Abstract:The Galilean (and more generally Milne) invariance of Newtonian theory allows for Killing vector fields of a general kind, whereby the Lie derivative of a field is not required to vanish but only to be cancellable by some infinitesimal Galilean (respectively Milne) gauge transformation. In this paper, it is shown that both the Killing-Milne vector fields, which preserve the background Newtonian space-time structure, and the Killing-Cartan vector fields, which in addition preserve the gravitational field, form a Lie subalgebra.

Killing Fields on Compact m-Quasi-Einstein Manifolds

Abstract:We show that given a compact, connected $m$-quasi Einstein manifold $(M,g,X)$ without boundary, the potential vector field $X$ is Killing if and only if $(M, g)$ has constant scalar curvature. This extends a result of Bahuaud-Gunasekaran-Kunduri-Woolgar, where it is shown that $X$ is Killing if $X$ is incompressible. We also provide a sufficient condition for a compact, non-gradient $m$-quasi Einstein metric to admit a Killing field. We do this by following a technique of Dunajski and Lucietti, who prove that a Killing field always exists in this case when $m=2$. This condition provides an alternate proof of the aforementioned result of Bahuaud-Gunasekaran-Kunduri-Woolgar. This alternate proof works in the $m = -2$ case as well, which was not covered in the original proof.

On Torse-Forming-Like Vector Fields

Abstract:We introduce another distinguished closed vector field on a Riemannian manifold which we shall call torse-forming-like and we relate it to other kind of vector fields such as torse-forming, self-torse-forming and semi-torse-forming vector fields. For a warped product manifold, we obtain different types of vector fields on the factor manifolds when the warped product is endowed with a torse-forming-like vector field. We study the nature of the tangential component of such a vector field for some special cases of submanifolds, namely, totally umbilical (in particular, totally geodesic) or having Codazzi (in particular, parallel) shape operator, and we show that the tangential component on a hypersurface of a torse-forming-like vector field is a Killing vector field if and only if the hypersurface is quasi-umbilical. In particular, if the hypersurface is isometrically immersed in a real space-form, then it is a space of quasi-constant curvature, hence, it is a quasi-Einstein manifold. Finally, we characterize the metallic shaped hypersurfaces with the normal direction generated by the normal component of a torse-forming-like vector field having Killing tangential component to the hypersurface.

Abstract:This paper aims to study the Berger type deformed Sasaki metric g BS on the second order tangent bundle T 2 M over a bi-Kählerian manifold M . The authors firstly find the Levi-Civita connection of the Berger type deformed Sasaki metric g BS and calculate all forms of Riemannian curvature tensors of this metric. Also, they study geodesics on the second order tangent bundle T 2 M and bi-unit second order tangent bundle , and characterize a geodesic of the bi-unit second order tangent bundle in terms of geodesic curvatures of its projection to the base. Finally, they present some conditions for a section σ : M → T 2 M to be harmonic and study the harmonicity of the different canonical projections and inclusions of ( T 2 M , g BS ). Moreover, they search the harmonicity of the Berger type deformed Sasaki metric g BS and the Sasaki metric g S with respect to each other.

Abstract:In this paper, we study classification of magnetic curves corresponding to Killing vector fields of H^3 (hyperbolic 3-space). First, we solve the geodesic equation analytically. Then we calculate the trajectories generated by all the six Killing vector fields, which are considered as magnetic field vectors, by using perturbation method up to first order with respect to the strength of the magnetic field. We present a comparison of our solution with the numerical solution for one case. We also prove that 3-dimensional ({\alpha})-Kenmotsu manifolds cannot have any magnetic vector field in the direction of their Reeb vector fields.
