Abstract:$L$ functions based on Dirichlet characters are natural generalizations of the Riemann $\zeta(s)$ function: they both have series representations and satisfy an Euler product representation, i.e. an infinite product taken over prime numbers. In this paper we address the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis relative to the non-trivial complex zeros of the Dirichlet $L$ functions by studying the possibility to enlarge the original domain of convergence of their Euler product. The feasibility of this analytic continuation is ruled by the asymptotic behavior in $N$ of the series $B_N = \sum_{n=1}^N \cos \bigl( t \log p_n - \arg \chi (p_n) \bigr)$ involving Dirichlet characters $\chi$ modulo $q$ on primes $p_n$. Although deterministic, these series have pronounced stochastic features which make them analogous to random time series. We show that the $B_N$'s satisfy various normal law probability distributions. The study of their large asymptotic behavior poses an interesting problem of statistical physics equivalent to the Single Brownian Trajectory Problem, here addressed by defining an appropriate ensemble $\mathcal{E}$ involving intervals of primes. For non-principal characters, we show that the series $B_N$ present a universal diffusive random walk behavior $B_N = O(\sqrt{N})$ in view of the Dirichlet theorem on the equidistribution of reduced residue classes modulo $q$ and the Lemke Oliver-Soundararajan conjecture on the distribution of pairs of residues on consecutive primes. This purely diffusive behavior of $B_N$ implies that the domain of convergence of the infinite product representation of the Dirichlet $L$-functions for non-principal characters can be extended from $\Re(s) > 1$ down to $\Re (s) = \frac{1}{2}$, without encountering any zeros before reaching this critical line.

Abstract:This paper studies the connections between the zeros and their distribution functions for two particular Dirichlet $L$ functions: the Riemann zeta function, and the Catalan beta function, also known as the Dirichlet beta function. It is shown that the Riemann hypothesis holds for the Dirichlet beta function $L_{-4}(s)$ if and only if it holds for $\zeta (s)$- a particular case of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis.

Abstract:In 1916, Riesz gave an equivalent criterion for the Riemann hypothesis (RH). Inspired from Riesz's criterion, Hardy and Littlewood showed that RH is equivalent to the following bound: \begin{align*} P_1(x):= \sum_{n=1}^\infty \frac{\mu(n)}{n} \exp\left({-\frac{x}{n^2}}\right) = O_{\epsilon}\left( x^{-\frac{1}{4}+ \epsilon } \right), \quad \mathrm{as}\,\, x \rightarrow \infty. \end{align*} Recently, the authors extended the above bound for the generalized Riemann hypothesis for Dirichlet $L$-functions and gave a conjecture for a class of ``nice'' $L$-functions. In this paper, we settle this conjecture. In particular, we give equivalent criteria for the Riemann hypothesis for $L$-functions associated to cusp forms. We also obtain an entirely novel form of equivalent criteria for the Riemann hypothesis of $\zeta(s)$. Furthermore, we generalize an identity of Ramanujan, Hardy and Littlewood for Chandrasekharan-Narasimhan class of $L$-functions.

Abstract:Some of my previous publications were incomplete in the sense that non trivial zeros belonging to a particular type of fundamental domain have been inadvertently ignored. Due to this fact, I was brought to believe that computations done by some authors in order to show counterexamples to RH were affected of approximation errors. In this paper I illustrate graphically the correctness of those computations and I fill the gaps in my publications.

Abstract:The Generalized Riemann Hypothesis implies that at least 50% of the central values $L \left( \frac{1}{2},\chi\right)$ are non-vanishing as $\chi$ ranges over primitive characters modulo $q$. We show that one may unconditionally go beyond GRH, in the sense that if one averages over primitive characters modulo $q$ and averages $q$ over an interval, then at least 50.073% of the central values are non-vanishing. The proof utilizes the mollification method with a three-piece mollifier, and relies on estimates for sums of Kloosterman sums due to Deshouillers and Iwaniec. Note: The author has been made aware of an error in this work. It seems the error can be fixed, by using a different argument, and the author will present a correction in due course.

Abstract:A previous exploration of the Riemann functional equation that focussed on the critical line, is extended over the complex plane. Significant results include a simpler derivation of the fundamental equation developed previously, and its generalization from the critical line to the complex plane. A simpler statement of the relationship that exists between the real and imaginary components of $\zeta(s)$ and $\zeta^{\prime}(s)$ on opposing sides of the critical line is developed, reducing to a simpler statement of the same result on the critical line. An analytic expression is obtained for the sum of the arguments of $\zeta(s)$ on opposite sides of the critical line, reducing to the analytic expression for $arg(\zeta(1/2+i\rho))$ first obtained in the previous work. Relationships are obtained between various combinations of $|\zeta(s)|$ and $|\zeta^{\prime}(s)|$, particularly on the critical line, and it is demonstrated that $arg(\zeta(1/2+i\rho))$ and $arg(\zeta^{\prime}(1/2+i\rho))$ uniquely define $|\zeta(1/2+i\rho)|$. A comment is made about the utility of such results as they might apply to putative proofs of Riemann's Hypothesis (RH).

Abstract:In these lectures we first review the important properties of the Riemann $\zeta$-function that are necessary to understand the nature and importance of the Riemann hypothesis (RH). In particular this first part describes the analytic continuation, the functional equation, trivial zeros, the Euler product formula, Riemann's main result relating the zeros on the critical strip to the distribution of primes, the exact counting formula for the number of zeros on the strip $N(T)$, and the GUE statistics of the zeros on the critical line. We then turn to presenting some new results obtained in the past year and describe several strategies towards proving the RH. First we describe an electrostatic analogy and argue that if the electric potential along the line $\Re (z) =1$ is a regular alternating function, the RH would follow. The main new result is that the zeros on the critical line are in one-to-one correspondence with the zeros of the cosine function, and this leads to a transcendental equation for the $n$-th zero on the critical line that depends only on $n$. If there is a unique solution to this equation for every $n$, denoting $N_0 (T)$ the number of zeros on the critical line, then $N_0(T) = N(T)$, i.e. all zeros are on the critical line. These results are generalized to two infinite classes of functions, Dirichlet $L$-functions and $L$-functions based on modular forms. We present extensive numerical analysis of the solutions of these equations. We apply these methods to the Davenport-Heilbronn $L$-function, which is known to have zeros off of the line, and explain why the RH fails in this case. We also present a new approximation to the $\zeta$-function that is analogous to the Stirling approximation to the $\Gamma$-function. In this updated version we added references to subsequent publications that made progress on open questions posed in the previous version from 10 years ago.

Abstract:We introduce a differential topological proof and an analytical proof of Riemann hypothesis according to the saddle point method because Riemann calculated the integral representation of zeta function on the critical line by this method. This topological proof of RH proves that the existence of integral representation of zeta functions requires certain differential topological conditions on its integrand according to which the zeta function vanishes on the critical line. The analytical proof of RH is the local implementation of topological proof or its coordinate representation.

Abstract:In the past 100 years, the research of Riemann Hypothesis meets many difficulties. Such situation may be caused by that people used to study Zeta function only regarding it as a complex function. Generally, complex functions are far more complex than real functions, and are hard to graph. So, people cannot grasp the nature of them easily. Therefore, it may be a promising way to try to correspond Zeta function to real function so that we can return to the real domain to study RH. In fact, by the view of Laplace transform, the whole picture of Zeta function is very clear and simple, and the problem can be greatly simplified. And by Laplace transform, most integral and convolution operations can be converted into algebraic operations, which greatly simplifies calculating and analysis. This is a really and full new way to research Zeta function, prime numbers distribution, RH and so on. In fact, many new, important and interesting results can be reached by this new way, far more that shown in this paper. In September 2018, I had discussed with Sir Michael F Atiyah about RH and our proofs, etc. Sir Atiyah was so nice and patient, and he gave my approach rather positive evaluation. Abstract:Riemann numerically approximated at least three zeta zeros. According to Edwards, Riemann even took steps to verify that the lowest zero he computed was indeed the first zeta zero. This approach to verification is developed, improved, and generalized to a large class of $L$-functions. Results of numerical calculations demonstrating the efficacy of the method are presented.

Abstract:In recent years L-functions and their analytic properties have assumed a central role in number theory and automorphic forms. In this expository article, we describe the two major methods for proving the analytic continuation and functional equations of $L$-functions: the method of integral representations, and the method of Fourier expansions of Eisenstein series. Special attention is paid to technical properties, such as boundedness in vertical strips; these are essential in applying the converse theorem, a powerful tool that uses analytic properties of L-functions to establish cases of Langlands functoriality conjectures. We conclude by describing striking recent results which rest upon the analytic properties of L-functions.

Abstract:In 2011, Li [A uniqueness theorem for Dirichlet series satisfying a Riemann type functional equation. Adv Math. 2011;226(5):4198-4211] proved that if two L-functions L-1 and L-2 satisfy the same functional equation with a(1) = 1 and L-1(-1 )(c(j)) = L-2(-1) (c(j)) for two distinct finite complex numbers c(1) and c(2), then L-1 = L-2. We prove that if two L-functions L-1 and L-2 have positive degree and satisfy the same functional equation with a(1) = 1 and E-L1, (5) = E-L2 (S) for a finite set S = {c(1) , c(2) ,c(3)}, where c(1) , c(2) and c(3) are three distinct finite complex values, then L-1 = L-2. A variant of the Linnik-Sprindzuk theorem for simple zeros of Dirichlet L-functions

Abstract:For a primitive Dirichlet character $X$, a new hypothesis $RH_{sim}^\dagger[X]$ is introduced, which asserts that (1) all simple zeros of $L(s,X)$ in the critical strip are located on the critical line, and (2) these zeros satisfy some specific conditions on their vertical distribution. Hypothesis $RH_{sim}^\dagger[X]$ is likely to be true since it is a consequence of the generalized Riemann hypothesis. Assuming only the generalized Lindelöf hypothesis, we show that if $RH_{sim}^\dagger[X]$ holds for one primitive character $X$, then it holds for every such character. If this occurs, then for every character $\chi$ (primitive or not), all simple zeros of $L(s,\chi)$ in the critical strip are located on the critical line. In particular, Siegel zeros cannot exist in this situation.
