Abstract:We study the discrete version of the $p$-Laplacian. Based on its variational properties we discuss some features of the associated parabolic problem. Our approach allows us in turn to obtain interesting information about positivity and comparison principles as well as compatibility with the symmetries of the graph. We conclude briefly discussing the variational properties of a handful of nonlinear generalized Laplacians appearing in different parabolic equations.

Abstract:We show that the Dirichlet problem at infinity is unsolvable for the p-Laplace equation for any nonconstant continuous boundary data, for certain range of p>n, on an n-dimensional Cartan-Hadamard manifold constructed from a complete noncompact shrinking gradient Ricci soliton. Using the steady gradient Ricci soliton, we find an incomplete Riemannian metric on ${\mathbb R}^2$ with positive Gauss curvature such that every positive p-harmonic function must be constant for $p\geq 4$.

Abstract:Abstract. We study harmonic functions for general Dirichlet forms. First we review consequences of Fukushima’s ergodic theorem for the harmonic functions in the domain of the L generator. Secondly we prove analogues of Yau’s and Karp’s Liouville theorems for weakly harmonic functions. Both say that weakly harmonic functions which satisfy certain L growth criteria must be constant. As consequence we give an integral criterion for recurrence.

Abstract:For a wide class of nonlinearities $f(u)$ satisfying \[\mbox{ $f(0)=f(a)=0$, $f(u)>0$ in $(0,a)$ and $f(u) < 0$ in $(a,\infty)$,}\] we study the quasilinear equation $-\Delta_p u=\lambda c(x)f(u)$ over the entire $\mathbb{R}^N$ or over a bounded smooth domain $\Omega$. Such equation covers various models from chemical reaction theory and population biology. We show that any nonnegative solution on the entire $\mathbb{R}^N$ must be a constant, and for large $\lambda$, any positive solution on $\Omega$ must approach $a$ in compact subsets of $\Omega$, no matter whether or not the solution has a prescribed behavior near the boundary of $\Omega$. We also determine the flat cores of the positive solutions and show that the flat cores enlarge to the whole $\Omega$ as $\lambda$ goes to infinity. Our proof of these results demonstrates the usefulness of boundary blow-up solutions in various classical problems.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider nonnegative solutions of the quasilinear parabolic equation with p-Laplace operator ut=div(|∇u|p−2∇u)+|u|q−1u, where p>2 and q>p−1. Our main result is that there is no nontrivial positive bounded radial entire solution. The proof is based on intersection comparison arguments, which can be viewed as a sophisticated form of the maximum principle and has been used to deal with the semilinear heat equation by Poláčik and Quittner [Peter Poláčik, Pavol Quittner, A Liouville-type theorem and the decay of radial solutions of a semilinear heat equation, Nonlinear Analysis TMA 64 (2006) 1679–1689] and the porous medium equation by Souplet [Ph. Souplet, An optimal Liouville-type theorem for radial entire solutions of the porous medium equation with source, J. Differential Equations 246 (2009) 3980–4005].

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the smooth map from a Riemannian manifold to the standard Euclidean space and the p-Ginzburg-Landau energy. Under suitable curvature conditions on the domain manifold, some Liouville type theorems are established by assuming either growth conditions of the p-Ginzburg-Landau energy or an asymptotic condition at the infinity for the maps. In the end of paper, we obtain the unique constant solution of the constant Dirichlet boundary value problems on starlike domains.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the Dirichlet problem of logarithmic Laplacian equations and systems on unbounded regions. We first establish new narrow region principles for the logarithmic Laplacian equation and system in coercive epigraphs separately. Then by using the direct method of moving planes, we obtain a monotonicity result for the solutions of logarithmic Laplacian equations and a Liouville-type theorem for solutions of logarithmic Laplacian systems in coercive epigraphs.

Abstract:Our purpose is to generalize some recent comparison principles for operators driven by p-Laplacian to a wide class of quasilinear equations including (p, q)-Laplacian. It turns out, in particular, that adding a q-Laplacian to p-Laplacian allows to weaken the assumptions needed on the Hamiltonian of lower order terms. The results are specialized in the case that the Hamiltonian has at most polynomial growth in the gradient with coefficients depending on x and u.

We first consider the typical case $f(x,u)=|x|^{a}u^{p}$ with $0\leq a<\infty$ and $1<p<\infty$. As an application of the Liouville theorem on $\mathbb{R}^n_+$ (Theorem 1.6) and Liouville theorems in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ established in Chen, Dai and Qin [4] for $n\geq4$ and Bidaut-Véron and Giacomini [1] for $n=2$, we derive a priori estimates and existence of positive solutions to critical order Lane-Emden equations in bounded domains for all $n\geq2$ and $1<p<\infty$. Abstract:For and , we study the following nonlinear Dirichlet eigenvalue problem with parameters driven by the sum of two nonlocal operators: where is a bounded open set. Depending on the values of , we completely describe the existence and non-existence of positive solutions to (P). We construct a continuous threshold curve in the two-dimensional -plane, which separates the regions of the existence and non-existence of positive solutions. In addition, we prove that the first Dirichlet eigenfunctions of the fractional -Laplace and fractional -Laplace operators are linearly independent, which plays an essential role in the formation of the curve. Furthermore, we establish that every nonnegative solution of (P) is globally bounded.

Abstract:This paper studies the existence of positive solutions of the Dirichlet problem for the nonlinear equation involving p-Laplacian operator: -Delta(p)u = lambdaf(u) on a bounded smooth domain Omega in R-n. The authors extend part of the Crandall-Rabinowitz bifurcation theory to this problem. Typical examples axe checked in detail and multiplicity of the solutions are illustrated. Then the stability for the associated parabolic equation is considered and a Fujita-type result is presented.

Abstract:We prove (i) a simple sufficient geometric condition for localisation of a sequence of first Dirichlet eigenfunctions provided the corresponding Dirichlet Laplacians satisfy a uniform Hardy inequality, and (ii) localisation of a sequence of first Dirichlet eigenfunctions for a wide class of elongating horn-shaped domains. We give examples of sequences of simply connected, planar, polygonal domains for which the corresponding sequence of first eigenfunctions with either Dirichlet, or Neumann, boundary conditions $\kappa$-localise in $L^2$.
