Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the compact minimal submanifold M-n(n >= 3) in the complex projective space CPn+p/2 (1). Denote by S the square norm of the second fundamental form. Set, (S) over tilde = S + 1/2 vertical bar t vertical bar(2) and epsilon = inf(M)vertical bar P vertical bar(2) , where P, t are the tensors defined in (2.1) below. We first, prove such that if parallel to S parallel to(n/2) < alpha 1 (n, epsilon) for epsilon > 0, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. Moreover, we prove if parallel to(S) over tilde parallel to(n/2) < alpha 3(n), where alpha 3(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n, then M is a totally geodesic submanifold CPn/2. We also prove other global pinching theorems for minimal submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:We show how Calabi-Yau hypersurface families arising from Batyrev's construction can be resolved and compactified using a type of fan more general than an MPCP resolution. This can lead to smooth projective compactifications that are not obtainable from the original construction. In the threefold case, we show that generic members of the resulting family are always smooth.

We apply this in particular to the case when X is the projectivization of the so-called canonical extension of the tangent bundle of a projective manifold M with Y being the projectivization of itself.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth complex manifold. Assume that $Y\subset X$ is a Kähler submanifold such that $X\setminus Y$ is biholomorphic to $\mathbb{C}^n$. We prove that $(X, Y)$ is biholomorphic to the standard example $(\mathbb{P}^n, \mathbb{P}^{n-1})$. We then study certain Kähler orbifold compactifications of $\mathbb{C}^n$ and prove that on $\mathbb{C}^3$ the flat metric is the only asymptotically conical Ricci-flat Kähler metric whose metric cone at infinity has a smooth link. As a key technical ingredient, a new formula for minimal discrepancy of isolated Fano cone singularities in terms of generalized Conley-Zehnder indices in symplectic geometry is derived.

Abstract:In this article, we consider a complete, non-compact almost Hermitian manifold whose curvature is asymptotic to that of the complex hyperbolic plane. Under natural geometric conditions, we show that such a manifold arises as the interior of a compact almost complex manifold whose boundary is a strictly pseudoconvex CR manifold. Moreover, the geometric structure of the boundary can be recovered by analysing the expansion of the metric near infinity.

Abstract:The prototypical examples of tropical compactifications are compactifications of complements of hyperplane arrangements, which posses a number of remarkable properties not satisfied by more general tropical compactifications of closed subvarieties of tori. We introduce a broader class of tropical compactifications, which we call quasilinear (tropical) compactifications, and which continue to satisfy the desirable properties of compactifications of complements of hyperplane arrangements. In particular, we show any quasilinear compactification is schön, and its intersection theory is described entirely by the intersection theory of the corresponding tropical fan. As applications, we prove the quasilinearity of the moduli spaces of 6 lines in $\mathbb{P}^2$ and marked cubic surfaces, obtaining results on the geometry of the stable pair compactifications of these spaces.

Abstract:We show that the standard definitions of Sasaki structures have elegant and simplifying interpretations in terms of projective differential geometry. For Sasaki-Einstein structures we use projective geometry to provide a resolution of such structures into geometrically less rigid components; the latter elemental components are separately, complex, orthogonal, and symplectic holonomy reductions of the canonical projective tractor/Cartan connection. This leads to a characterisation of Sasaki-Einstein structures as projective structures with certain unitary holonomy reductions. As an immediate application, this is used to describe the projective compactification of indefinite (suitably) complete non-compact Sasaki-Einstein structures and to prove that the boundary at infinity is a Fefferman conformal manifold that thus fibres over a nondegenerate CR manifold (of hypersurface type). We prove that this CR manifold coincides with the boundary at infinity for the c-projective compactification of the Kähler-Einstein manifold that arises, in the usual way, as a leaf space for the defining Killing field of the given Sasaki-Einstein manifold. A procedure for constructing examples is given. The discussion of symplectic holonomy reductions of projective structures leads us moreover to a new and simplifying approach to contact projective geometry. This is of independent interest and is treated in some detail.

Abstract:We construct several examples of compactifications of Einstein metrics. We show that the Eguchi--Hanson instanton admits a projective compactification which is non--metric, and that a metric cone over any (pseudo)--Riemannian manifolds admits a metric projective compactification. We construct a para--$c$--projective compactification of neutral signature Einstein metrics canonically defined on certain rank--$n$ affine bundles $M$ over $n$-dimensional manifolds endowed with projective structures.

Abstract:This paper addresses several conjectures and questions regarding the absolute and relative compactifications of the SL(2,C)-character variety of an $n$-punctured Riemann surface without boundary. We study a class of projective compactifications determined by ideal triangulations of the surface and prove explicit results concerning the boundary divisors of these compactifications. Notably, we establish that the boundary divisors are toric varieties and confirm a well-known conjecture asserting that the (dual) boundary complex of any (positive dimensional) relative character variety is a sphere. Additionally, we verify that relative SL(2,C)-character varieties are log Calabi-Yau. In a different vein, we enhance and streamline Komyo's compactification method, which utilizes a projective compactification of SL(2,C) to compactify the (relative) character varieties. Specifically, we construct a uniform relative compactification over the base space of $\mathbb{C}^n$ and determine its monodromy, addressing a question posed by Simpson.

Abstract:We prove that the moduli space of rational curves with cyclic action, constructed in our previous work, is realizable as a wonderful compactification of the complement of a hyperplane arrangement in a product of projective spaces. By proving a general result on such wonderful compactifications, we conclude that this moduli space is Chow-equivalent to an explicit toric variety (whose fan can be understood as a tropical version of the moduli space), from which a computation of its Chow ring follows.

Abstract:We show that the boundary of a projectively compact Einstein manifold of dimension $n$ can be extended by a line bundle naturally constructed from the projective compactification. This extended boundary is such that its automorphisms can be identified with asymptotic symmetries of the compactification. The construction is motivated by the investigation of a new curved orbit decomposition for a $n+1$ dimensional manifold which we prove results in a line bundle over a projectively compact order one Einstein manifolds.
