Abstract:For every natural $n>1$, there is an operator $T$ of dynamical origin such that its tensor power $T^{\otimes n}$ has singular spectrum, and $T^{\otimes (n+1)}$ has absolutely continuous one. For a set $D$ of positive measure there are mixing zero entropy automorphisms $S,T$ such that $S^nD\cap T^nD=\varnothing$ for all $n>0$. The following answers, in particular, Frantzikinakis-Host's question. If $ p(n+1)- p(n), \ \ q(n+1)- q(n)\ \to\ +\infty$, then there is a divergent sequence $ \sum_{n=1}^{N} \mu(S^{ p(n)}C\cap T^{ q(n)}C)/N$ for some set $C$ and automorphisms $S,T$ of simple singular spectrum.

Abstract:The note is devoted to multiple mixing, spectrum, rank and self-joinings of measure-preserving transformations. We recall famous open problems, discuss related questions and some known results. A hypothetical example of an automorphism of the class $MSJ(2)\setminus MSJ(3)$ has Lebesgue spectrum, infinite rank and does not have multiple mixing. If its spectrum is simple, then we get a solution to the problems of Banach, Rokhlin and del Junco-Rudolph. The existence of such an example, of course, seems unlikely, but any facts confirming the impossibility of this amazing situation have not yet been discovered. They not found even under the condition that its local rank is positive, which ensures the finite spectral multiplicity.

Polynomial rigidity and spectrum of Sidon automorphisms

Abstract:We present spectrally disjoint Sidon automorphisms whose tensor squares are isomorphic to a planar shift. Spectra of such automorphisms do not possess the group property. To check the singularity of spectrum, we use polynomial rigidity of operators associated with Kolmogorov linear determinism. In the class of mixing Gaussian and Poisson suspensions we realize new sets of spectral multiplicities.

Abstract:Let $\Gamma$ be a Zariski dense $\Theta$-Anosov subgroup of a connected semisimple real algebraic group for some nonempty subset of simple roots $\Theta$. In the Anosov setting, there is a natural compact metric space $\mathcal{X}$ equipped with a family of translation flows $\{a^{\mathsf{v}}_t\}_{t \in \mathbb R}$, parameterized by vectors $\mathsf{v}$ in the interior of the $\Theta$-limit cone $\mathcal{L}_\Theta$ of $\Gamma$, and they are Hölder conjugate to Hölder reparametrizations of the Gromov geodesic flow. We prove that for all $\mathsf{v}$ outside an exceptional cone $\mathscr{E} \subset \operatorname{int}\mathcal{L}_\Theta$, which is a smooth image of the walls of the Weyl chamber, the translation flow is exponentially mixing with respect to the Bowen-Margulis-Sullivan measure associated to $\mathsf{v}$. Moreover, the exponential rate is uniform for a compact set of such $\mathsf{v}$. We also obtain an essential spectral gap formulated in terms of the Selberg zeta function and a prime orbit theorem with a power saving error term. Our proof relies on Lie theoretic techniques to prove the crucial local non-integrability condition (LNIC) for the translation flows and thereby implement Dolgopyat's method in a uniform fashion. The exceptional cone $\mathscr{E}$ arises from the failure of LNIC for those vectors.

Abstract:We prove some general Sobolev-type and related inequalities for positive operators A of given ultracontractive spectral decay, without assuming e^{-tA} is submarkovian. These inequalities hold on functions, or pure states, as usual, but also on mixed states, or density operators in the quantum mechanical sense. This provides universal bounds of Faber-Krahn type on domains, that apply to their whole Dirichlet spectrum distribution, not only the first eigenvalue. Abstract:Consider the Skorokhod problem in the closed non-negative orthant: find a solution $(g(t),m(t))$ to \[ g(t)= f(t)+ Rm(t),\] where $f$ is a given continuous vector-valued function with $f(0)$ in the orthant, $R$ is a given $d\times d$ matrix with 1's along the diagonal, $g$ takes values in the orthant, and $m$ is a vector-valued function that starts at 0, each component of $m$ is non-decreasing and continuous, and for each $i$ the $i^{th}$ coordinate of $m$ increases only when the $i^{th}$ coordinate of $g$ is 0. The stochastic version of the Skorokhod problem replaces $f$ by the paths of Brownian motion. It is known that there exists a unique solution to the Skorokhod problem if the spectral radius of $|Q|$ is less than 1, where $Q=I-R$ and $|Q|$ is the matrix whose entries are the absolute values of the corresponding entries of $Q$. The first result of this paper shows pathwise uniqueness for the stochastic version of the Skorokhod problem holds if the spectral radius of $|Q|$ is equal to 1. The second result of this paper settles the remaining open cases for uniqueness for the deterministic version when the dimension $d$ is two.

Poisson suspensions without roots

Abstract:We construct rigid Poisson suspensions without roots. The discrete rational component in spectrum of an ergodic automorphism S prevents some roots from existing. If S is tensorly multiplied by an ergodic automorphism of the space with a sigma-finite measure, discrete spectrum disappears in this product, but like the smile of Cheshire Cat, the memory of it can remain in the form of the absence of roots. In additional conditions, this effect is inherited by the Poisson suspension over the above product. Starting from this idea, but without using the tensor product, we describe simple rank-one constructions for which the Poisson suspensions are rigid and have no roots.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the Koopman operator associated with the discrete and the continuous-time random dynamical system (RDS). We provide results that characterize the spectrum and the eigenfunctions of the stochastic Koopman operator associated with different types of linear RDS. Then we consider the RDS for which the associated Koopman operator family is a semigroup, especially those for which the generator can be determined. We define a stochastic Hankel–DMD algorithm for numerical approximations of the spectral objects (eigenvalues, eigenfunctions) of the stochastic Koopman operator and prove its convergence. We apply the methodology to a variety of examples, revealing objects in spectral expansions of the stochastic Koopman operator and enabling model reduction.

Abstract:This text is written based on the author's publications during the period from 1991 to 2001. The work is devoted to the theory of Markov intertwining operators and joinings of measure-preserving group actions, as well as to their applications to study asymptotic properties of dynamical systems. Special attention is paid to Rokhlin's problems on multiple mixing and multiple spectrum. The development of these topics over the past twenty years has not been discussed. In fact many results on joinings have frozen in time, many questions have remained open without losing their relevance, but probably have ceased to excite interest due to difficulties. For example, it is not known whether the minimal self-joinings of order 2 imply all orders? Is there a non-trivial pairwise independent joining for a weakly mixing system of zero entropy? What can be said about such joinings for transformations with small local rank? These questions are ripe for a long time, and the author reminds the reader about them, combining his story with numerous partial and related results.

Abstract:The following question due to Thouvenot is well-known in ergodic theory. Let $S$ and $T$ be automorphisms of a probability space and let $ S \otimes S $ be isomorphic to $T \otimes T $. Could $S$ be not isomorphic to $T$? Our note contains a simple answer to this question and a generalization of Kulaga's result on the corresponding isomorphism for some class of flows (see <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1101.4975" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1101.4975">arXiv:1101.4975</a>). We show that the isomorphism of weakly mixing flows $ S_t \otimes S_t $ and $ T_t \otimes T_t $ implies the isomorphism of the flows $S_t$ and $T_t$, if the latter has an integral weak limit.
