Abstract:For any natural $n$, and real $\alpha\geq 0$ we construct an ergodic automorphism $T$ such that its tensor powers $T^{\otimes n}$ have singular spectra if $n\leq 1+\alpha /2$, and Lebesgue if $n\, > 1+\alpha/2$.

Abstract:For every natural $n>1$, there is an operator $T$ of dynamical origin such that its tensor power $T^{\otimes n}$ has singular spectrum, and $T^{\otimes (n+1)}$ has absolutely continuous one. For a set $D$ of positive measure there are mixing zero entropy automorphisms $S,T$ such that $S^nD\cap T^nD=\varnothing$ for all $n>0$. The following answers, in particular, Frantzikinakis-Host's question. If $ p(n+1)- p(n), \ \ q(n+1)- q(n)\ \to\ +\infty$, then there is a divergent sequence $ \sum_{n=1}^{N} \mu(S^{ p(n)}C\cap T^{ q(n)}C)/N$ for some set $C$ and automorphisms $S,T$ of simple singular spectrum.

Abstract:We consider the family of arithmetical matrices given explicitly by $$E=\left\{\frac{[n,m]^t}{(nm)^{(\rho+t)/2}}\right\}_{n,m=1}^\infty$$ where $[n,m]$ is the least common multiple of $n$ and $m$ and the real parameters $\rho$ and $t$ satisfy $t>0$, $\rho>t+1$. We prove that $E$ is a compact self-adjoint operator on $\ell^2(\mathbb N)$ with infinitely many of both positive and negative eigenvalues. Furthermore, we prove that the ordered sequence of positive eigenvalues of $E$ obeys the asymptotic relation $$\lambda^+_n(E)=\frac{\varkappa}{n^{\rho-t}}(1+o(1)), \quad n\to\infty,$$ with some $\varkappa>0$ and the negative eigenvalues obey the same relation, with the same asymptotic coefficient $\varkappa$. We also indicate a connection of the spectral analysis of $E$ to the theory of Beurling primes.

Abstract:We find sufficient conditions for the singularity of a substitution $\mathbb{Z}$-action's spectrum, which generalize the conditions given in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2003.11287" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2003.11287">arXiv:2003.11287</a>, Theorem 2.4, and we also obtain a similar statement for a collection of substitution $\mathbb{R}$-actions, including the self-similar one. To achieve this, we first study the distribution of related toral endomorphism orbits. In particular, given a toral endomorphism and a vector $\mathbf{v}\in\mathbb{Q}^d$, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the orbit of $\omega\mathbf{v}$ to be uniformly distributed modulo $1$ for almost every $\omega\in\mathbb{R}$. We use our results to find new examples of singular substitution $\mathbb{Z}$- and $\mathbb{R}$-actions.

Abstract:This note is devoted to infinite self-similar rank 1 constructions and their applications to the spectral theory of dynamical systems. The properties of orthogonal operators induced by self-similar constructions provide some unusual spectral properties of Gaussian and Poisson suspensions.

Abstract:For any $r$-order $\{0, 1\}$-tensor $A$ with $e$ ones, we prove that the spectral radius of $A$ is at most $e^{\frac{r-1}{r}}$ with the equality holds if and only if $e={k^r}$ for some integer $k$ and all ones forms a principal sub-tensor ${\bf 1}_{k\times \cdots \times k}$. We also prove a stability result for general tensor $A$ with $e$ ones where $e=k^r+l$ with relatively small $l$. Using the stability result, we completely characterized the tensors achieving the maximum spectral radius among all $r$-order $\{0, 1\}$-tensor $A$ with $k^r+l$ ones, for $-r-1\leq l \leq r$, and $k$ sufficiently large.

Abstract:We prove that local rank of an ergodic symmetric power $T^{\odot n}$ does not exceed $n!n^{-n}$. A. Katok's old results show that this upper bound is exact. We prove also that $T^{\odot n}$ has infinite Rank as $n>1$.

Abstract:In connection with the results of Tim Austin, and Wen Huang, Song Shao, Xiangdong Ye we present the following assertion: there are infinite automorphisms $S,T$, some set $A$ of positive finite measure and a sequence $N_m$ with $|N_{m+1}|/|N_m|\ \to\infty$ such that $T^iA\cap S^iA=\phi$ for $i\in [N_{4k}, N_{4k+1}]$ and $T^iA=S^iA$ for $i\in [N_{4k+2}, N_{2k+3}]$. For the corresponding deterministic Gaussian and Poisson suspensions $S_\circ,T_\circ$ over $S,T$ for some $f\in L_\infty$ there is no limit of $ \frac 1 N \sum_{n=1}^N T_\circ^nf\,S_\circ^nf$ in $ L_2$.

On the isomorphism of tensor powers of ergodic flows

Abstract:The following question due to Thouvenot is well-known in ergodic theory. Let $S$ and $T$ be automorphisms of a probability space and let $ S \otimes S $ be isomorphic to $T \otimes T $. Could $S$ be not isomorphic to $T$? Our note contains a simple answer to this question and a generalization of Kulaga's result on the corresponding isomorphism for some class of flows (see <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1101.4975" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1101.4975">arXiv:1101.4975</a>). We show that the isomorphism of weakly mixing flows $ S_t \otimes S_t $ and $ T_t \otimes T_t $ implies the isomorphism of the flows $S_t$ and $T_t$, if the latter has an integral weak limit.

Abstract:Transposition graph $T_n$ is defined as a Cayley graph over the symmetric group generated by all transpositions. It is known that all eigenvalues of $T_n$ are integers. Moreover, zero is its eigenvalue for any $n\geqslant 4$. But the exact distribution of the spectrum of the graph $T_n$ is unknown. In this paper we prove that integers from the interval $[-\frac{n-4}{2}, \frac{n-4}{2}]$ lie in the spectrum of $T_n$ if $n \geqslant 19$.

Abstract:A Transposition graph $T_n$ is defined as a Cayley graph over the symmetric group $Sym_n$ generated by all transpositions. It is known that the spectrum of $T_n$ consists of integers, but it is not known exactly how these numbers are distributed. In this paper we prove that integers from the segment $[-n, n]$ lie in the spectrum of $T_n$ for any $n\geqslant 31$. Using this fact we also prove the main result of this paper that a segment of quadratic length with respect to $n$ lies in the spectrum of $T_n$.

Abstract:The unique irreducible representation of $\SL_2(\R)$ on $\R^n$ induces an action, called the \textit{linear action}, of $\SL_2(\Z)$ on the torus $\T^n$ for every $n\geq 2$. For $n$ odd, it factors through $\PSL_2(\Z)$, so we denote by $G_n$ the group $\SL_2(\Z)$ for $n$ even, and $\PSL_2(\Z)$ for $n$ odd. We prove that the action is free and ergodic for every $n\geq 2$, that if $h\in \SL_2(\Z)$ is a hyperbolic element and if $n$ is even, then the action of the subgroup generated by $h$ is still ergodic, but also that, for $n$ odd, no amenable subgroup of $\PSL_2(\Z)$ acts ergodically on $\T^n$. We deduce also that every ergodic sub-equivalence relation $\Rr$ of the orbital equivalence relation $\mathcal{S}_n$ of $G_n$ on $\T^n$ is either amenable or rigid, extending a result by Ioana for $n=2$. This result has the following corollaries: firstly, for $n\geq 2$ even, if $H$ is a maximal amenable subgroup of $\SL_2(\Z)$ containing an hyperbolic matrix, then the associated crossed product II$_1$ factor $L^\infty(\T^n)\rtimes H$ is a maximal Haagerup subalgebra of $L^\infty(\T^n)\rtimes \SL_2(\Z)$; secondly , for every $n$, the fundamental group of $L^\infty(\T^n)\rtimes G_n$ is trivial.

Abstract:An $n \times n \times p$ tensor is called a T-square tensor. It arises from many applications, such as the image feature extraction problem and the multi-view clustering problem. We may symmetrize a T-square tensor to a T-symmetric tensor. For each T-square tensor, we define a T-quadratic form, whose variable is an $n \times p$ matrix, and whose value is a $p$-dimensional vector. We define eigentuples and eigenmatrices for T-square tensors. We show that a T-symmetric tensor has unique largest and smallest eigentuples, and a T-quadratic form is positive semi-definite (definite) if and only if its smallest eigentuple is nonnegative (positive). The relation between the eigen-decomposition of T-symmetric tensors, and the TSVD of general third order tensors are also studied.

Abstract:Let $n\in\mathbb{N}$ and let $H_0,V$ be self-adjoint operators such that $V$ is bounded and $V(H_0-i)^{-p}\in\mathcal{S}^{n/p}$ for $p=1,\ldots,n$. We prove the existence, uniqueness up to polynomial summands, and regularity properties of all higher order spectral shift functions associated to the perturbation theory of $t\mapsto H_0+tV$ ($t\in[0,1]$). Such perturbations arise in situations in noncommutative geometry and mathematical physics with dimension $n-1$. Our proof is simpler than that of \cite{NuSkJST,NuSkJOT} and works at all orders regardless of $n$.

Abstract:In this paper we study the ergodic theory of a class of symbolic dynamical systems $(\O, T, \mu)$ where $T:{\O}\to \O$ the left shift transformation on $\O=\prod_0^\infty\{0,1\}$ and $\mu$ is a $\s$-finite $T$-invariant measure having the property that one can find a real number $d$ so that $\mu(\tau^d)=\infty$ but $\mu(\tau^{d-\epsilon})<\infty$ for all $\epsilon >0$, where $\tau$ is the first passage time function in the reference state 1. In particular we shall consider invariant measures $\mu$ arising from a potential $V$ which is uniformly continuous but not of summable variation. If $d>0$ then $\mu$ can be normalized to give the unique non-atomic equilibrium probability measure of $V$ for which we compute the (asymptotically) exact mixing rate, of order $n^{-d}$. We also establish the weak-Bernoulli property and a polynomial cluster property (decay of correlations) for observables of polynomial variation. If instead $d\leq 0$ then $\mu$ is an infinite measure with scaling rate of order $n^d$. Moreover, the analytic properties of the weighted dynamical zeta function and those of the Fourier transform of correlation functions are shown to be related to one another via the spectral properties of an operator-valued power series which naturally arises from a standard inducing procedure. A detailed control of the singular behaviour of these functions in the vicinity of their non-polar singularity at $z=1$ is achieved through an approximation scheme which uses generating functions of a suitable renewal process. In the perspective of differentiable dynamics, these are statements about the unique absolutely continuous invariant measure of a class of piecewise smooth interval maps with an indifferent fixed point.
Non-singular and probability measure-preserving actions of infinite permutation groups

Abstract:We prove two theorems in the ergodic theory of infinite permutation groups. First, generalizing a theorem of Nessonov for the infinite symmetric group, we show that every non-singular action of a non-archimedean, Roelcke precompact, Polish group on a measure space $(\Omega, \mu)$ admits an invariant $\sigma$-finite measure equivalent to $\mu$. Second, we prove the following de Finetti type theorem: if $G \curvearrowright M$ is a primitive permutation group with no algebraicity verifying an additional uniformity assumption, which is automatically satisfied if $G$ is Roelcke precompact, then any $G$-invariant, ergodic probability measure on $Z^M$, where $Z$ is a Polish space, is a product measure.

Our results are obtained by using Riemann-Hilbert problems for orthogonal polynomials and integrable operators and they extend previous results of Forrester and Witte \cite{FW} that were obtained by an application of Okamoto's $\tau$-function theory. A key role throughout is played by distinguished solutions to the Painlevé-XXXIV equation.

On singular pencils with commuting coefficients

Abstract:We investigate the relation between the spectrum of matrix (or operator) polynomials and the Taylor spectrum of its coefficients. We prove that the polynomial of commuting matrices is singular, i.e. its spectrum is the whole complex plane, if and only if (0, 0, ... , 0) belongs to the Taylor spectrum of its coefficients. On the other hand we prove that this equivalence is not longer true if we consider the operators on infinite dimensional Hilbert space as coefficients of polynomial. As a consequence we could propose a new description of (Taylor) spectrum of k-tuple of matrices and we could disprove the conjecture previously proposed in the literature. Additionally, we pointed out the Kronecker forms of the pencils with commuting coefficients.
