Abstract:Let G be a connected compact Lie group. Among other things, we prove that the following are equivalent. (a) For all connected compact Lie groups H and all continuous homomorphisms phi, phi' V H -> G, if phi(h) and phi'(h) are conjugate in G for all h epsilon H, then phi and phi' are G-conjugate. (b) The Lie algebra of G contains no simple ideal of type D-n (n >= 4), E-6, E-7, or E-8.

Abstract:Let G be a finite group. The question of how certain arithmetical conditions on the lengths of the conjugacy classes of G influence the group structure has been studied by several authors. In this paper we study restrictions on the structure of a finite group in which the lengths of conjugacy classes are not divisible by p(2) for some prime p. We generalise and provide simplified proofs for some earlier results.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite almost simple group of Lie type acting faithfully and primitively on a set $\Omega$. We prove an analogue of the Boston--Shalev conjecture for conjugacy classes: the proportion of conjugacy classes of $G$ consisting of derangements is bounded away from zero. This answers a question of Guralnick and Zalesski. The proof is based on results on the anatomy of palindromic polynomials over finite fields (with either reflective symmetry or conjugate-reflective symmetry).

Abstract:There are several graphs defined on groups. Among them we consider graphs whose vertex set consists conjugacy classes of a group $G$ and adjacency is defined by properties of the elements of conjugacy classes. In particular, we consider commuting/nilpotent/solvable conjugacy class graph of $G$ where two distinct conjugacy classes $a^G$ and $b^G$ are adjacent if there exist some elements $x\in a^G$ and $y\in b^G$ such that $\langle x, y \rangle$ is abelian/nilpotent/solvable. After a section of introductory results and examples, we discuss all the available results on connectedness, graph realization, genus, various spectra and energies of certain induced subgraphs of these graphs. Proofs of the results are not included. However, many open problems for further investigation are stated.

Abstract:Let G \mathsf G be a connected reductive linear algebraic group defined over R \mathbb R , and let C : G → G C: \mathsf G\rightarrow \mathsf G be a fundamental Chevalley involution. We show that for every g ∈ G ( R ) g\in \mathsf G(\mathbb R) , C ( g ) C(g) is conjugate to g − 1 g^{-1} in the group G ( R ) \mathsf G(\mathbb R) . Similar result on the Lie algebras is also obtained.

Abstract:Let $\X$ be a class of finite groups closed under taking the subgroups, homomorphic images and extensions. By $\D_\X$ denote the class of finite groups $G$ in which every two $\X$-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate. In the paper, the following statement is proven. Let $A$ be a normal subgroup of a finite group $G$. Then \centerline{$G\in\D_\X$ if and only if $A\in \D_\X$ and $G/A\in \D_\X$.} This statement implies that the $\X$-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate if and only if the so called $\X$-sub\-ma\-xi\-mal subgroups are conjugate. Thus we obtain an affirmative solution to a problem posed by H.Wielandt in 1964.

Abstract:Many results have been established that show how the number of conjugacy classes appearing in the product of classes affect the structure of a finite group. The aim of this paper is to show several results about solvability concerning the case in which the power of a conjugacy class is a union of one or two conjugacy classes. Moreover, we show that the above conditions can be determined through the character table of the group.

Abstract:We prove the conjugacy of Sylow $2$-subgroups in pseudofinite $\mathfrak{M}_c$ (in particular linear) groups under the assumption that there is at least one finite Sylow $2$-subgroup. We observe the importance of the pseudofiniteness assumption by analyzing an example of a linear group with non-conjugate finite Sylow $2$-subgroups which was constructed by Platonov.

Abstract:Let $G = K \rtimes \langle t \rangle $ be a finitely generated group where $K$ is abelian and $\langle t\rangle$ is the infinite cyclic group. Let $ R $ be a finite symmetric subset of $K$ such that $S = \{ (r,1),(0,t^{\pm 1}) \mid r \in R \}$ is a generating set of $G$. We prove that the spherical conjugacy ratio, and hence the conjugacy ratio, of $G$ with respect to $S$ is $0$ unless $G$ is virtually abelian, confirming a conjecture of Ciobanu, Cox and Martino in this case. We also show that the Baumslag--Solitar group $\mathrm{BS}(1,2)$ has a one-sided Følner sequence $F$ such that the conjugacy ratio with respect to $F$ is non-zero, even though $\mathrm{BS}(1,2)$ is not virtually abelian. This is in contrast to two-sided Følner sequences, where Tointon showed that the conjugacy ratio with respect to a two-sided Følner sequence is positive if and only if the group is virtually abelian.

Abstract:The conjugation representation of a finite group $G$ is the complex permutation module defined by the action of $G$ on itself by conjugation. Addressing a problem raised by Hain motivated by the study of a Hecke action on iterated Shimura integrals, Tiep proved that for $G=\operatorname{SL}_{2}(\mathbb{Z}/p^{r})$, where $r\geq1$ and $p\geq5$ is a prime, any irreducible representation of $G$ that is trivial on the centre of $G$ is contained in the conjugation representation. Moreover, Tiep asked whether this can be generalised to $p=2$ or $3$. We answer the Hain--Tiep question in the affirmative and also prove analogous statements for $\operatorname{SL}_{2}$ and $\operatorname{GL}_{2}$ over any finite local principal ideal ring with residue field of odd characteristic.

Abstract:Let p be a fixed prime, G a finite group and P a Sylow p-subgroup of G. The main results of this paper are as follows: (1) If gcd(p- 1, vertical bar G vertical bar) = 1 and p(2) does not divide vertical bar x(G) | for any p'-element x of prime power order, then G is a solvable p-nilpotent group and a Sylow p- subgroup of G/O-p(G) is elementary abelian. (2) Suppose that G is p-solvable. If p(p-1) does not divide vertical bar x(G) | for any element x of prime power order, then the p-length of G is at most one. (3) Suppose that G is p-solvable. If p(p-1) does not divide chi(1) for any chi is an element of Irr(G), then both the p-length and p'-length of G are at most 2.

Abstract:A new graph ΓG of conjugacy classes of a finite group G is defined :its verticesare the conjugacy classes of G and two distinct vertices join by an edge if their sizes are coprime .By the defini-tion of ΓG ,we obtain some graph theoretical properties of ΓG and characterize some structures of fi-nite groups by their conjugate graphs .For example ,ΓG ≌ K3 if and only if G≌ Z3 or S3 .In particu-lar ,we prove some properties of the conjugate graphs of dihedral groups .Finally ,we obtain some properties of finite groups by applying properties of the conjugate graphs of finite groups .

Abstract:We study the conjugacy class growth function in finitely generated virtually abelian groups. That is, the number of elements in the ball of radius $n$ in the Cayley graph which intersect a fixed conjugacy class. In the class of virtually abelian groups, we prove that this function is always asymptotically equivalent to a polynomial. Furthermore, we show that in any affine Coxeter group, the degree of polynomial growth of a conjugacy class is equivalent to the reflection length of any element of that class.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a group. Write $G^{*}=G\setminus \{1\}$. An element $x$ of $G^{*}$ will be called deficient if $ \langle x\rangle < C_G(x)$ and it will be called non-deficient if $\langle x\rangle = C_G(x).$ If $x\in G$ is deficient (non-deficient), then the conjugacy class $x^G$ of $x$ in $G$ will be also called deficient (non-deficient). Let $j$ be a non-negative integer. We shall say that the group $G$ has defect $j$, denoted by $G\in D(j)$ or by the phrase "$G$ is a $D(j)$-group", if exactly $j$ non-trivial conjugacy classes of $G$ are deficient. We first determine all finite $D(0)$-groups and $D(1)$-groups. Then we deal with arbitrary $D(0)$-groups and $D(1)$-groups: we find properties of arbitrary $D(0)$-groups and $D(1)$-groups, which force these groups to be finite.
