Abstract:For an indexed collection of convex sets in a Banach space with index set $I$of cardinality $|I|$ of $I$, which may be finite or infinite,we investigate the interrelationship between various qualification notionsincluding the linear regularity, the normal property, the dual normalconical hull intersection property,and Jameson's property $(G)$, together with their quantitative versions,and thereby we extend the well-known results of Bakan, Deutsch, andLi [ Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. , 357 (2005), pp. 3831--3863],and Bauschke, Borwein, and Li [ Math. Program. Ser. A , 86 (1999), pp. 135--160] fromthe finite case to the more general case that allows $|I|$ to be infinite.
Uniformly rectifiable metric spaces satisfy the weak constant density condition

Abstract:The weak constant density condition is a quantitative regularity property originally investigated by David and Semmes in their foundational work on uniform rectifiability. Roughly speaking, a space satisfies this condition if in \textit{most} balls, the space supports a measure with \textit{nearly constant} density in a neighborhood of scales and locations. In this paper, we prove that uniformly rectifiable metric spaces satisfy the weak constant density condition, an extension of a theorem of David and Semmes. In order to do this, we first prove a strengthened version of a separate theorem of David and Semmes which weakly controls the oscillation of the means of $L^\infty$ functions over normed balls.

Strictly convex norms and the local diameter two property

Abstract:We introduce and study a strict monotonicity property of the norm in solid Banach lattices of real functions that prevents such spaces from having the local diameter two property. Then we show that any strictly convex 1-symmetric norm on $\ell_\infty(\mathbb N)$ possesses this strict monotonicity property. In the opposite direction, we show that any Banach space which is strictly convex renormable and contains a complemented copy of $c_0,$ admits an equivalent strictly convex norm for which the space has the local diameter two property. In particular, this enables us to construct a strictly convex norm on $c_0(\Gamma),$ where $\Gamma$ is uncountable, for which the space has a 1-unconditional basis and the local diameter two property.

Abstract:> The uniqueness and existence of restricted Chebyshev center with respect to arbitrary subset are investigated. The concept of almost Chebyshev sets with respect to bounded subsets is introduced. It is proved that each closed subset in a reflexive locally uniformly convex (uniformly convex, respectively) Banach space is an almost Chebyshev subset with respect to compact convex subsets (bounded convex subsets and bounded subsets, respectively).

Abstract:Let $X$ be a Banach space and $F: [0, 1] \rightarrow 2^{X} \setminus \{ \varnothing \}$ be a bounded multifunction. We study properties of the set $I(F)$ of limits in Hausdorff distance of Riemann integral sums of $F$. The main results are: (1) $I(F)$ is convex in the case of finite-dimensional $X$; (2) $I(F) = I(\operatorname{conv} F)$ in B-convex spaces or for compact-valued multifunctions; (3) $I(F)$ consists of convex sets whenever $X$ is B-convex; (4) $I(F)$ is star-shaped (thus non-empty) for compact-valued multifunctions in separable spaces. (5) For each infinite-dimensional Banach space there is a bounded multifunction with empty $I(F)$.

Uniform density in matroids, matrices and graphs

Abstract:We give new characterizations for the class of uniformly dense matroids and study applications of these characterizations to graphic and real representable matroids. We show that a matroid is uniformly dense if and only if its base polytope contains a point with constant coordinates. As a main application, we derive new spectral, structural and classification results for uniformly dense graphs. In particular, we show that connected regular uniformly dense graphs are $1$-tough and thus contain a (near-)perfect matching. As a second application, we show that uniform density can be recognized in polynomial time for real representable matroids, which includes graphs. Finally, we show that strictly uniformly dense real represented matroids can be represented by projection matrices with a constant diagonal and that they are parametrized by a subvariety of the Grassmannian.

Abstract:We show, in a certain specific sense, that both the density and the cardinality of a Hausdorff space are related to the "degree" to which the space is nonregular. It was shown by Šapirovskiĭ that d(X)≤πχ(X)c(X) for a regular space X and the author observed this holds if the space is only quasiregular. We generalize this result to the class of all Hausdorff spaces by introducing the nonquasiregularity degree nq(X) , which is countable when X is quasiregular, and showing d(X)≤πχ(X)c(X)nq(X) for any Hausdorff space X . This demonstrates that the degree to which a space is nonquasiregular has a fundamental and direct connection to its density and, ultimately, its cardinality. Importantly, if X is Hausdorff then nq(X) is "small" in the sense that nq(X)≤min⁡{ψc(X),L(X),pct(X)} . This results in a unified proof of both Šapirovskiĭ's density bound for regular spaces and Sun's bound πχ(X)c(X)ψc(X) for the cardinality of a Hausdorff space X . A consequence is an improved bound for the cardinality of a Hausdorff space. An example is given of a compact, Hausdorff space X for which our new bound is a strict improvement over Sun's bound.

Abstract:This note is motivated by the article of Bamerni, Kadets and Kiliçman [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 435 (2), 1812--1815 (2016)]. We consider the remaining problem which claims that if $A$ is a dense subset of a finite dimensional space $X$, then there is a nontrivial subspace $M$ of $X$ such that $A\cap M$ is dense in $M$. We show that the above problem has a negative answer when $X=\mathbb{K}^{n}$ ($\mathbb{K}= \mathbb{R}$ or $\mathbb{C}$) for every $n\geq 2$.

Abstract:In this short note, we show that one cannot differentiate between reciprocal Dunford--Pettis sets and V$^*$-sets in a Banach lattice. That is, for a bounded subset $K$ of a Banach lattice $E$, $K$ is a V$^*$-set if and only if $K$ is a reciprocal Dunford--Pettis set, or equivalently, if and only if every disjoint sequence in the solid hull of $K$ is weakly null (i.e. $K$ is disjointly weakly compact).

Abstract:We provide several equivalent characterizations of locally flat, d -Ahlfors regular, uniformly rectifiable sets E in with density close to 1 for any dimension , . In particular, we show that when E is Reifenberg flat with small constant and has Ahlfors regularity constant close to 1, then the Tolsa coefficients associated to E satisfy a small-constant Carleson measure estimate. This estimate is new, even when , and gives a new characterization of chord-arc domains with small constant.

Abstract:The main result of the paper: Given any $\varepsilon>0$, every locally finite subset of $\ell_2$ admits a $(1+\varepsilon)$-bilipschitz embedding into an arbitrary infinite-dimensional Banach space. The result is based on two results which are of independent interest: (1) A direct sum of two finite-dimensional Euclidean spaces contains a sub-sum of a controlled dimension which is $\varepsilon$-close to a direct sum with respect to a $1$-unconditional basis in a two-dimensional space. (2) For any finite-dimensional Banach space $Y$ and its direct sum $X$ with itself with respect to a $1$-unconditional basis in a two-dimensional space, there exists a $(1+\varepsilon)$-bilipschitz embedding of $Y$ into $X$ which on a small ball coincides with the identity map onto the first summand and on a complement of a large ball coincides with the identity map onto the second summand.

Abstract:We prove that there exists an equivalent norm $\Vert\vert\cdot\vert\Vert$ on $L_\infty[0,1]$ with the following properties: (1) The unit ball of $(L_\infty[0,1],\Vert\vert\cdot\vert\Vert)$ contains non-empty relatively weakly open subsets of arbitrarily small diameter; (2) The set of Daugavet points of the unit ball of $(L_\infty[0,1],\Vert\vert\cdot\vert\Vert)$ is weakly dense; (3) The set of ccw $\Delta$-points of the unit ball of $(L_\infty[0,1],\Vert\vert\cdot\vert\Vert)$ is norming. We also show that there are points of the unit ball of $(L_\infty[0,1],\Vert\vert\cdot\vert\Vert)$ which are not $\Delta$-points, meaning that the space $(L_\infty[0,1],\Vert\vert\cdot\vert\Vert)$ fails the diametral local diameter 2 property. Finally, we observe that the space $(L_\infty[0,1],\Vert\vert\cdot\vert\Vert)$ provides both alternative and new examples that illustrate the differences between the various diametral notions for points of the unit ball of Banach spaces.
