Abstract:We give an algebraic-geometric proof of the fact that for a smooth fibration $\pi: X \longrightarrow Y$ of projective varieties, the direct image $\pi_*(L\otimes K_{X/Y})$ of the adjoint line bundle of an ample (respectively, nef and $\pi$-strongly big) line bundle $L$ is ample (respectively, nef and big).

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a proper Kähler fibration $f \colon X \to Y$ and a singular Hermitian line bundle $(L, h)$ on $X$ with semi-positive curvature. We prove that the direct image sheaf $f_{*}(\mathcal{O}_{X}(K_{X/Y}+L) \otimes \mathcal{I}(h))$, equipped with the Narasimhan-Simha metric, is singular Nakano semi-positive in the sense that the $\overline{\partial}$-equation can be solved with optimal $L^{2}$-estimate. Our proof does not rely on the theory of Griffiths positivity for the direct image sheaf.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the Nakano-positivity and dual-Nakano-positivity of certain adjoint vector bundles associated to ample vector bundles. As applications, we get new vanishing theorems about ample vector bundles. For example, we prove that if $E$ is an ample vector bundle over a compact K\"ahler manifold $X$, $S^kE\ts \det E$ is both Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive for any $k\geq 0$. Moreover, $H^{n,q}(X,S^kE\ts \det E)=H^{q,n}(X,S^kE\ts \det E)=0$ for any $q\geq 1$. In particular, if $(E,h)$ is a Griffiths-positive vector bundle, the naturally induced Hermitian vector bundle $(S^kE\ts \det E, S^kh\ts \det h)$ is both Nakano-positive and dual-Nakano-positive for any $k\geq 0$.

Abstract:Let p : chi -> S be a proper Kahler fibration and epsilon -> chi a Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle. As motivated by the work of Berndtsson ([Bern09]), by using basic Hodge theory, we derive several general curvature formulas for the direct image p(*) (K-chi/S circle times epsilon) for general Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle epsilon in a simple way. A straightforward application is that, if the family chi -> S is infinitesimally trivial and Hermitian vector bundle epsilon is Nakano-negative along the base S, then the direct image p(*) (K-chi/S circle times epsilon) is Nakano-negative. We also use these curvature formulas to study the moduli space of projectively flat vector bundles with positive first Chern classes and obtain that, if the Chern curvature of direct image p(*)(K-X circle times E)-of a positive projectively flat family (E, h(t))(t is an element of D) -> X-vanishes, then the curvature forms of this family are connected by holomorphic automorphisms of the pair (X, E).

Abstract:We prove that the direct image of an anti-ample vector bundle is anti-ample under any finite flat morphism of non-singular projective varieties. In the second part we prove some properties of big and nef vector bundles. In particular it is shown that the tensor product of a nef vector bundle with a nef and big vector bundle is again nef and big. This generalizes a result of Schneider.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a $n$-dimensional smooth projective variety and $L$ be an ample Cartier divisor on $X$. We conjecture that a very general element of the linear system $|K_X+(3n+1)L|$ is a hyperbolic algebraic variety. This conjecture holds for some classical varieties: surfaces, products of projective spaces, and Grassmannians. In this article, we investigate the conjecture for $X$ a toric variety. We give a positive answer to the conjecture for smooth projective toric varieties. For a Gorenstein toric threefold $X$, we show that $|K_X+9L|$ is a hyperbolic linear system for any ample Cartier divisor $L$.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective manifold with $\dim _{\mathbb{C}}X=n$ . We show that if a line bundle $L$ is $(n-1)$ -ample, then it is $(n-1)$ -positive. This is a partial converse to the Andreotti–Grauert theorem. As an application, we show that a projective manifold $X$ is uniruled if and only if there exists a Hermitian metric $\unicode[STIX]{x1D714}$ on $X$ such that its Ricci curvature $\text{Ric}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D714})$ has at least one positive eigenvalue everywhere.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective variety over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ with arbitrary characteristic. Suppose $L$ is an ample and globally generated line bundle. By Castelnuovo--Mumford regularity, we show that $K_X \otimes L^{\otimes \dim X} \otimes A$ is globally generated and $K_X \otimes L^{\otimes (\dim X+1)} \otimes A$ is very ample, provided the line bundle $A$ is nef but not numerically trivial. On complex projective varieties, by investigating Kawamata-Viehweg-Nadel type vanishing theorems for vector bundles, we also obtain the global generation for adjoint vector bundles. In particular, for a holomorphic submersion $f:X\longrightarrow Y$ with $L$ ample and globally generated, and $A$ nef but not numerically trivial, we prove the global generation of $ f_*(K_{X/Y})^{\otimes s}\otimes K_Y \otimes L^{\otimes \dim Y} \otimes A$ for any positive integer $s$.

Abstract:We show an arithmetic generalization of the recent work of Lazarsfeld-Mustata which uses Okounkov bodies to study linear series of line bundles. Bigness of adjoint linear subsystem and approximation theorems with ideal sheaves on weakly pseudoconvex manifolds

Abstract:Let $X$ be a weakly pseudoconvex manifold and $L\longrightarrow X$ be a holomorphic line bundle with a singular positive Hermitian metric $h$. In this article, we provide a points separation theorem and an embedding for the adjoint linear subsystem including the multiplier ideal sheaf $\mathscr{I}(h^m)$, with respect to an appropriate set excluding a singular locus of $h$. We also show that the adjoint bundle of $L$ is big. To handle analytical methods, we first establish an approximation of singular Hermitian metrics on relatively compact subsets from Demailly's approximation that preserves ideal sheaves and is compatible with blow-ups. Using the blow-ups obtained from this approximation, we provide the embedding and big-ness for the adjoint bundle $K_X\otimes L^{\otimes m}\otimes\mathscr{I}(h^m)$ on each sublevel set $X_c$, and a singular holomorphic Morse inequality including ideal sheaves. Furthermore, we establish the approximation theorem for holomorphic sections of the adjoint bundle including the multiplier ideal sheaf, i.e. $K_X\otimes L\otimes\mathscr{I}(h)$, as a key result in the process of globalizing. Using these results, we can achieve points separation on each $X_c\setminus Z_c$, where $Z_c$ is an analytic subset obtained as a singular locus of the approximation, and then globalize this to provide embeddings. Finally, as an application of this blow-ups, we present a global singular Nakano vanishing theorem.

An $L^2$ Dolbeault lemma on higher direct images and its application

Abstract:Given a proper holomorphic surjective morphism $f:X\rightarrow Y$ from a compact Kähler manifold to a compact Kähler manifold, and a Nakano semipositive holomorphic vector bundle $E$ on $X$, we prove Kollár type vanishing theorems on cohomologies with coefficients in $R^qf_\ast(\omega_X(E))\otimes F$, where $F$ is a $k$-positive vector bundle on $Y$. The main inputs in the proof are the deep results on the Nakano semipositivity of the higher direct images due to Berndtsson and Mourougane-Takayama, and an $L^2$-Dolbeault resolution of the higher direct image sheaf $R^qf_\ast(\omega_X(E))$, which is of interest in itself.

Abstract:Let $\varphi : Y \rightarrow X$ be a finite surjective morphism between smooth complex projective curves, where $X$ is irreducible but $Y$ need not be so. Let $V_*$ be a parabolic vector bundle on $Y$. We construct a parabolic structure on the direct image $\varphi_* V$ on $X$, where $V$ is the vector bundle underlying $V_*$. The parabolic vector bundle $\varphi_* V_*$ on $X$ obtained this way has a ramified torus sub-bundle; it is a torus bundle of $\text{Ad}(\varphi_* V)$ outside the parabolic divisor for $\varphi_* V_*$ that satisfies certain conditions at the parabolic points. Conversely, given a parabolic vector bundle $E_*$ on $X$, and a ramified torus sub-bundle $\mathcal T$ for it, we construct a ramified covering $Z$ of $X$ and a parabolic vector bundle $W_*$ on $Z$, such that the parabolic bundle $E_*$ is the direct image of $W_*$. A connection on $V_*$ produces a connection on $\varphi_* V_*$. The ramified torus sub-bundle for $\varphi_* V_*$ is preserved by the logarithmic connection on $\text{End}(\varphi_* V)$ induced by this connection on $\varphi_* V_*$. If the parabolic vector bundle $E_*$ on $X$ is equipped with a connection $D$ such that the connection on the endomorphism bundle induced by it preserves the ramified torus sub-bundle $\mathcal T$, then we prove that the corresponding parabolic vector bundle $W_*$ on $Z$ has a connection that produces the connection $D$ on the direct image $E_*$.

Moduli of codimension two linear sections of subadjoint varieties

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group of type $F_{4}$, $E_{6}$, $E_{7}$ or $E_{8}$, and let $\mathfrak{g}$ be its Lie algebra. The adjoint variety $X_{ad} \subseteq \mathbb{P} \mathfrak{g}$ is defined as the unique closed orbit of the adjoint action of $G$ on $\mathbb{P}\mathfrak{g}$. $X_{ad}$ is a Fano contact manifold covered by lines in $\mathbb{P} \mathfrak{g}$. The subadjoint variety $S \subseteq \mathbb{P} W$ is denoted by the variety of lines on $X_{ad}$ through a fixed point $x$, where $W \subseteq T_{x}X$ is taken as the contact hyperplane. It follows from a result in representation theory of Vinberg that the GIT quotient space of codimension two linear sections of $S$ is isomorphic to the weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}(1,3,4,6)$. In this note, we investigate the problem of finding a geometric interpretation of the above isomorphism. As a main result, for each $\mathfrak{g}$ of the above type, we construct a natural open embedding of the GIT quotient space of nonsingular codimension two linear sections of $S$ into $\mathbb{P}(1,3,4,6)$ whose complement is a fixed hypersurface of degree 12. The key ingredient of our construction is to apply a correspondence of Bahargava and Ho which relates the above moduli problem to a moduli problem on curves of genus one.

Line bundles on the moduli space of Lie algebroid connections over a curve

Abstract:We explore algebro-geometric properties of the moduli space of holomorphic Lie algebroid ($ \mathcal{L} $) connections on a compact Riemann surface $X$ of genus $g \,\geq\, 3$. A smooth compactification of the moduli space of $\mathcal{L}$-connections, such that underlying vector bundle is stable, is constructed; the complement of the moduli space inside the compactification is a divisor. A criterion for the numerical effectiveness of the boundary divisor is given. We compute the Picard group of the moduli space, and analyze Lie algebroid Atiyah bundles associated with an ample line bundle. This enables us to conclude that regular functions on the space of certain Lie algebroid connections are constants. Moreover, under some condition, it is shown that the moduli space of $\mathcal{L}$-connections does not admit non-constant algebraic functions. Rationally connectedness of the moduli spaces is explored.

Higher Dimensional Brill-Noether Loci and Moduli for Very Ample Line Bundles

Abstract:In this paper, we study Brill-Noether loci for higher dimensional varieties. Let $M$ be a moduli space of coherent sheaves on $X$. The Brill-Noether loci of $M$ are the closed subsets $\{\mathcal{F} \in M : h^0(X,\mathcal{F}) \geq k+1\}$. When $X$ is a smooth curve and $M = \textbf{Pic}_X^d$, the space of degree $d$ line bundles on $X$, the Brill-Noether loci have a natural determinantal scheme structure coming from a map of vector bundles on $\textbf{Pic}_X^d$, which is the main tool in studying their geometry. In [CMR10], the authors generalize this to the case where $X$ is any variety and $M$ is the moduli space of stable vector bundles on $X$ with fixed invariants but require that $H^i(X,E) = 0$ for all $E \in M$ and $i \geq 2$. We generalize these results by showing how to give a natural determinantal scheme structure to the Brill-Noether loci for any $X$ and any $M$. In doing so we develop the theory of Fitting ideals for a complex which can be used to define natural scheme structures in other cases as well, such as the locus of points where the projective dimension of a coherent sheaf jumps up. As an application of our results, we construct moduli spaces for very ample line bundles on a variety.

Abstract:Given a family $(F,h) \to X \times S$ of Hermite-Einstein bundles on a compact Kähler manifold $(X,g)$ we consider the higher direct image sheaves $R^q p_* \mathcal{O}(F)$ on $S$, where $p: X \times S \to S$ is the projection. On the complement of an analytic subset these sheaves are locally free and carry a natural metric, induced by the $L_2$ inner product of harmonic forms on the fibers. We compute the curvature of this metric which has a simpler form for families with fixed determinant and families of endomorphism bundles. Furthermore, we discuss the metric for moduli spaces of stable vector bundles.
