Abstract:We show an arithmetic generalization of the recent work of Lazarsfeld-Mustata which uses Okounkov bodies to study linear series of line bundles. As applications, we derive a log-concavity inequality on volumes of arithmetic line bundles and an arithmetic Fujita approximation theorem for big line bundles.

Abstract: For a hermitian line bundle over an arithmetic variety, we construct a convex continuous function on the Okounkov body associated to the generic fibre of the line bundle. The integration of the continuous function gives the growth of the Euler characteristic of the hermitian line bundle. It is the global version of the recent work of Nystrom.

Abstract:This paper is an improvement and simpliﬁcation of Yuan [Yu]. In particular,by a simpler method, it proves the identity in [Yu, Theorem A] withouttaking the limit p → ∞. The method also simpliﬁes the proofs of Moriwaki[Mo], where more general arithmetic linear series were treated.Recall that [Yu] explored a way to construct arithmetic Okounkov bodiesfrom an arithmetic line bundle, inspired by the idea of Okounkov [Ok1, Ok2]and Lazarsfeld–Musta¸ta [LM] in the geometric case. Theorem A of [Yu]asserts that the volumes of the Okounkov bodies approximate the volume ofthe arithmetic line bundle. The main result of this paper asserts an exactidentity before taking the limit.On the other hand, Boucksom–Chen [BC] initiated a diﬀerent way toconstruct Okounkov bodies in the arithmetic setting. From the proof ofthe main result in this paper, it is easy to recognize the similarity of theconstructions in [BC] and in [Yu]. We will make a comparison at the end ofthis paper.In the following, we recall the construction of [Yu] and state our mainresult. We use exactly the same notations as in [Yu] throughout this paper.1

Abstract:We prove a Hilbert-Samuel type result of arithmetic big line bundles inArakelov geometry, which is an analogue of a classical theorem of Siu. Anapplication of this result gives equidistribution of small points overalgebraic dynamical systems, following the work of Szpiro-Ullmo-Zhang. We alsogeneralize Chambert-Loir's non-archimedean equidistribution.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove effective upper bounds for effective sections of line bundles on projective varieties and hermitian line bundles on arithmetic varieties in terms of the volumes. They are effective versions of the Hilbert--Samuel formula and the arithmetic Hilbert--Samuel formula.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the admissible canonical bundle of the universal family of curves is a big adelic line bundle, and apply it to prove a uniform Bogomolov-type theorem for curves over global fields of all characteristics. This gives a different approach to the uniform Mordell-Lang type of result of Dimitrov-Gao-Habegger and Kuhne. The treatment is based on the recent theory of adelic line bundles of Yuan-Zhang.

Abstract:In this paper, we first establish an L-2-type Dolbeault isomorphism for logarithmic differential forms by Hrmander's L-2 estimates. By using this isomorphism and the construction of smooth Hermitian metrics, we obtain a number of new vanishing theorems for sheaves of logarithmic differential forms on compact Kahler manifolds with simple normal crossing divisors, which generalize several classical vanishing theorems, including Norimatsu's vanishing theorem, Girbau's vanishing theorem, Le Potier's vanishing theorem, and a version of the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem.
Arithmetic Deformation of Line Bundles

Abstract:We introduce a new method to study mixed characteristic deformation of line bundles. In particular, for sufficiently large smooth projective families $f : \mathcal{X} \to \mathcal{S}$ defined over the ring of $N$-integers $\mathcal{O}_{L}[1/N]$ of a number field $L$, we produce a proper closed subscheme $\mathcal{E} \subsetneq \mathcal{S}$ outside of which all line bundles appearing in positive characteristic fibres of $f$ admit characteristic zero lifts. This in particular applies to elliptic surfaces over $\mathbb{P}^1$ and projective hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^3$ of degree $d \geq 5$. We also study the locus in $\mathcal{E}$ in more detail in the $h^{0, 2} = 2$ case.

Abstract:This paper provides some technical results needed in "Formalism for Relative Gromov-Witten Invariants." We study line-bundles on the moduli stacks of relative stable and rubber maps that are used to define relative Gromov-Witten invariants in the sense of J. Li. Relations between these line-bundles yield degeneration formulae. In addition we prove a technical result called the Trivial Cylinders Theorem.

Abstract:This is the second part of our work on Zariski decomposition structures, where we compare two different volume type functions for curve classes. The first function is the polar transform of the volume for ample divisor classes. The second function captures the asymptotic geometry of curves analogously to the volume function for divisors. We prove that the two functions coincide, generalizing Zariski's classical result for surfaces to all varieties. Our result confirms the log concavity conjecture of the first named author for weighted mobility of curve classes in an unexpected way, via Legendre-Fenchel type transforms. We also give a number of applications to birational geometry, including a refined structure theorem for the movable cone of curves.

Abstract: In this paper, we establish a theory of adelic line bundles over quasi-projective varieties over finitely generated fields. Besides definitions of adelic line bundles, we consider their intersection theory, volume theory, and height theory, and apply these to study heights of algebraic points of quasi-projective varieties.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove index theorems for integrable metrized line bundles on projective varieties over complete fields and number fields respectively. As applications, we prove a non-archimedean analogue of the Calabi theorem and a rigidity theorem about the preperiodic points of algebraic dynamical systems.

Abstract:For any pair of orientable closed hyperbolic $3$--manifolds, this paper shows that any isomorphism between the profinite completions of their fundamental groups witnesses a bijective correspondence between the Zariski dense $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{Q}^{\mathtt{ac}})$--representations of their fundamental groups, up to conjugacy; moreover, corresponding pairs of representations have identical invariant trace fields and isomorphic invariant quaternion algebras. (Here, $\mathbb{Q}^{\mathtt{ac}}$ denotes an algebraic closure of $\mathbb{Q}$.) Next, assuming the $p$--adic Borel regulator injectivity conjecture for number fields, this paper shows that uniform lattices in $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbb{C})$ with isomorphic profinite completions have identical invariant trace fields, isomorphic invariant quaternion algebras, identical covolume, and identical arithmeticity.

Abstract:Yuan and Zhang introduced arithmetic intersection numbers for adelic line bundles on quasi-projective varieties over a number field. Burgos and Kramer generalized this approach allowing more singular metrics at archimedean places. We introduce abstract divisorial spaces as a tool to generalize these arithmetic intersection numbers to the setting of a proper adelic base curve in the sense of Chen and Moriwaki. We also allow more singular metrics at non-archimedean places using relative mixed energy there as well.

Abstract:Given an affine variety X and a finite dimensional vector space of regular functions L on X, we associate a convex body to (X, L) such that its volume is responsible for the number of solutions of a generic system of functions from L. This is a far reaching generalization of usual theory of Newton polytopes (which is concerned with toric varieties). As applications we give new, simple and transparent proofs of some well-known theorems in both algebraic geometry (e.g. Hodge Index Theorem) and convex geometry (e.g. Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality). Our main tools are classical Hilbert theory on degree of subvarieties of a projective space (in algebraic geometry) and Brunn-Minkowski inequality (in convex geometric).

Abstract:It is well known that for an ample line bundle $L$ on an Abelian variety $A$, the linear system |2L| is base point free, and 3L is very ample, moreover the map defined by the linear system |2L| is well understood. In this paper we generalized this classical result and give a new proof using the theory CGG developed by Pareschi and Popa.

Abstract:We establish a connection between the theory of Ulrich sheaves and $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy theory. For instance, we prove that the $\mathbb{A}^1$-degree of a morphism between projective varieties, that is relatively oriented by an Ulrich sheaf, is constant on the target even when it is not $\mathbb{A}^1$-connected. Further if an embedded projective variety is the support of a symmetric Ulrich sheaf of rank one, the $\mathbb{A}^1$-degree of all its linear projections can be read off in an explicit way from the free resolution of the Ulrich sheaf. Finally, we construct an Ulrich sheaf on the secant variety of a curve and use this to define an arithmetic version of Viro's encomplexed writhe for curves in $\mathbb{P}^3$. This can be considered to be an arithmetic analogue of a link invariant.

Abstract:We present several analogies between convex geometry and the theory of holomorphic line bundles on smooth projective varieties or K\"ahler manifolds. We study the relation between positive products and mixed volumes. We define and study a Blaschke addition for divisor classes and mixed divisor classes, and prove new geometric inequalities for divisor classes. We also reinterpret several classical convex geometry results in the context of algebraic geometry: the Alexandrov body construction is the convex geometry version of divisorial Zariski decomposition; Minkowski's existence theorem is the convex geometry version of the duality between the pseudo-effective cone of divisors and the movable cone of curves.
Volumes of Subvarieties of Complex Ball Quotients and Sparsity of Rational Points

Abstract:Let $X=\Gamma \backslash \mathbb{B}^{n} $ be an $n$-dimensional complex ball quotient by a torsion-free non-uniform lattice $\Gamma$ whose parabolic subgroups are unipotent. We prove that the volumes of subvarieties of $X$ are controlled by the systole of $X,$ which is the length of the shortest closed geodesic of $X$. There are a number of arithmetic and geometric consequences: the systole of $X$ controls the growth rate of rational points on $X,$ uniformly in the field of definition. Also, we obtain effective global generation and very ampleness results for multiples of the canonical bundle $K_{\overline{X}},$ where $\overline{X}$ is the toroidal compactification of $X.$ These results follow from the bound we find for the Seshadri constant of $K_{\overline{X}}$ in terms of the systole.

Valuative invariants for linearized line bundles on a spherical variety

Abstract:We give formulas for various valuative invariants of linearized ample line bundles on a projective spherical variety. Then we show how to use these formulas to study $g$-solitons on a Fano spherical variety. As a corollary, we show that for a Fano horospherical manifold $X$, the corresponding cone $(K_{X})^{\times}$ always admits a Calabi-Yau cone metric.

Abstract:We prove some strong results on approximation of strongly semistable bundles with vanishing numerical Chern classes by filtrations, whose quotients are line bundles of similar slope. This generalizes some earlier results of Parameswaran-Subramanian in the curve case and Koley-Parameswaran in the surface case and it confirms the conjecture posed by Koley and Parameswaran.
