Abstract: For a hermitian line bundle over an arithmetic variety, we construct a convex continuous function on the Okounkov body associated to the generic fibre of the line bundle. The integration of the continuous function gives the growth of the Euler characteristic of the hermitian line bundle. It is the global version of the recent work of Nystrom.

As applications, we derive a log-concavity inequality on volumes of arithmetic line bundles and an arithmetic Fujita approximation theorem for big line bundles.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the geometry of the moduli space of curves by using the curvature properties of direct image sheaves of vector bundles. We show that the moduli space $(M_g, \omega_{WP})$ of curves with genus $g>1$ has dual-Nakano negative and semi-Nakano-negative curvature, and in particular, it has non-positive Riemannain curvature operator and also non-positive complex sectional curvature. As applications, we prove that any submanifold in $M_g$ which is totally geodesic in $A_g$ with finite volume must be a ball quotient. We also show that, on a Kodaira (deformation) surface, there is no K\"ahler metric with non-positive Riemannain sectional curvature although it possesses K\"ahler metrics with strictly negative holomorphic bisectional curvature.

Abstract:This paper is an improvement and simpliﬁcation of Yuan [Yu]. In particular,by a simpler method, it proves the identity in [Yu, Theorem A] withouttaking the limit p → ∞. The method also simpliﬁes the proofs of Moriwaki[Mo], where more general arithmetic linear series were treated.Recall that [Yu] explored a way to construct arithmetic Okounkov bodiesfrom an arithmetic line bundle, inspired by the idea of Okounkov [Ok1, Ok2]and Lazarsfeld–Musta¸ta [LM] in the geometric case. Theorem A of [Yu]asserts that the volumes of the Okounkov bodies approximate the volume ofthe arithmetic line bundle. The main result of this paper asserts an exactidentity before taking the limit.On the other hand, Boucksom–Chen [BC] initiated a diﬀerent way toconstruct Okounkov bodies in the arithmetic setting. From the proof ofthe main result in this paper, it is easy to recognize the similarity of theconstructions in [BC] and in [Yu]. We will make a comparison at the end ofthis paper.In the following, we recall the construction of [Yu] and state our mainresult. We use exactly the same notations as in [Yu] throughout this paper.1
Arithmetic Deformation of Line Bundles

Abstract:We introduce a new method to study mixed characteristic deformation of line bundles. In particular, for sufficiently large smooth projective families $f : \mathcal{X} \to \mathcal{S}$ defined over the ring of $N$-integers $\mathcal{O}_{L}[1/N]$ of a number field $L$, we produce a proper closed subscheme $\mathcal{E} \subsetneq \mathcal{S}$ outside of which all line bundles appearing in positive characteristic fibres of $f$ admit characteristic zero lifts. This in particular applies to elliptic surfaces over $\mathbb{P}^1$ and projective hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^3$ of degree $d \geq 5$. We also study the locus in $\mathcal{E}$ in more detail in the $h^{0, 2} = 2$ case.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove effective upper bounds for effective sections of line bundles on projective varieties and hermitian line bundles on arithmetic varieties in terms of the volumes. They are effective versions of the Hilbert--Samuel formula and the arithmetic Hilbert--Samuel formula.

Abstract:We prove a Hilbert-Samuel type result of arithmetic big line bundles inArakelov geometry, which is an analogue of a classical theorem of Siu. Anapplication of this result gives equidistribution of small points overalgebraic dynamical systems, following the work of Szpiro-Ullmo-Zhang. We alsogeneralize Chambert-Loir's non-archimedean equidistribution.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that the admissible canonical bundle of the universal family of curves is a big adelic line bundle, and apply it to prove a uniform Bogomolov-type theorem for curves over global fields of all characteristics. This gives a different approach to the uniform Mordell-Lang type of result of Dimitrov-Gao-Habegger and Kuhne. The treatment is based on the recent theory of adelic line bundles of Yuan-Zhang.

Abstract:We study Severi type inequalities for big line bundles on irregular varieties via cohomological rank functions. We show that these Severi type inequalities are related to some naturally defined birational invariants of the general fibers of the Albanese morphisms. As an application, we show that the volume of an irregular threefold of general type is at least $$\frac{3}{8}$$ . We also show that the volume of a smooth projective variety X of general type and of maximal Albanese dimension is at least $$2(\dim X)!$$ . Moreover, if $${{\,\mathrm{vol}\,}}(X)=2(\dim X)!$$ , the canonical model of X is a double cover of a principally polarized abelian variety $$(A, \Theta )$$ branched over some divisor $$D\in |2\Theta |$$ .

Abstract:We present several analogies between convex geometry and the theory of holomorphic line bundles on smooth projective varieties or K\"ahler manifolds. We study the relation between positive products and mixed volumes. We define and study a Blaschke addition for divisor classes and mixed divisor classes, and prove new geometric inequalities for divisor classes. We also reinterpret several classical convex geometry results in the context of algebraic geometry: the Alexandrov body construction is the convex geometry version of divisorial Zariski decomposition; Minkowski's existence theorem is the convex geometry version of the duality between the pseudo-effective cone of divisors and the movable cone of curves.
Valuative invariants for linearized line bundles on a spherical variety

Abstract:We give formulas for various valuative invariants of linearized ample line bundles on a projective spherical variety. Then we show how to use these formulas to study $g$-solitons on a Fano spherical variety. As a corollary, we show that for a Fano horospherical manifold $X$, the corresponding cone $(K_{X})^{\times}$ always admits a Calabi-Yau cone metric.

Abstract:We give an explicit formula for Euler characteristics of line bundles on the Hilbert scheme of points on $\mathbb{P}^1\times\mathbb{P}^1$. Combined with structural results of Ellingsrud, Göttsche, and Lehn, this determines the Euler characteristic of any line bundle on the Hilbert scheme of points on any smooth, projective surface. We also give an enumerative description of the dimensions of spaces of global sections of ample line bundles on Hilbert schemes of points on Hirzebruch surfaces, extending the polytope-line bundle correspondence on the underlying toric surface.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective variety. We construct partial Okounkov bodies associated to Hermitian pseudo-effective line bundles $(L,\phi)$ on $X$. We show that partial Okounkov bodies are universal invariants of the singularity of $\phi$. As an application, we generalize the theorem of Boucksom--Chen and construct Duistermaat--Heckman measures associated with finite energy metrics on the Berkovich analytification of an ample line bundle.

Abstract:In earlier work (Marinescu and Savale in Math Ann. https://doi.org/10.1007/s00208-023-02750-3, 2023) the authors proved the Bergman kernel expansion for semi-positive line bundles over a Riemann surface whose curvature vanishes to at most finite order at each point. Here we explore the related results and consequences of the expansion in the semi-positive case including: Tian's approximation theorem for induced Fubini-Study metrics, leading-order asymptotics and composition for Toeplitz operators, asymptotics of zeroes for random sections, and the asymptotics of holomorphic torsion.

Higher Dimensional Brill-Noether Loci and Moduli for Very Ample Line Bundles

Abstract:In this paper, we study Brill-Noether loci for higher dimensional varieties. Let $M$ be a moduli space of coherent sheaves on $X$. The Brill-Noether loci of $M$ are the closed subsets $\{\mathcal{F} \in M : h^0(X,\mathcal{F}) \geq k+1\}$. When $X$ is a smooth curve and $M = \textbf{Pic}_X^d$, the space of degree $d$ line bundles on $X$, the Brill-Noether loci have a natural determinantal scheme structure coming from a map of vector bundles on $\textbf{Pic}_X^d$, which is the main tool in studying their geometry. In [CMR10], the authors generalize this to the case where $X$ is any variety and $M$ is the moduli space of stable vector bundles on $X$ with fixed invariants but require that $H^i(X,E) = 0$ for all $E \in M$ and $i \geq 2$. We generalize these results by showing how to give a natural determinantal scheme structure to the Brill-Noether loci for any $X$ and any $M$. In doing so we develop the theory of Fitting ideals for a complex which can be used to define natural scheme structures in other cases as well, such as the locus of points where the projective dimension of a coherent sheaf jumps up. As an application of our results, we construct moduli spaces for very ample line bundles on a variety.

On the stability of extensions of tangent sheaves on Kähler-Einstein Fano / Calabi-Yau pairs

Abstract:Let $S$ be a smooth projective variety and $\Delta$ a simple normal crossing $\mathbb{Q}$-divisor with coefficients in $(0,1]$. For any ample $\mathbb{Q}$-line bundle $L$ over $S$, we denote by $\mathscr{E}(L)$ the extension sheaf of the orbifold tangent sheaf $T_S(-\log(\Delta))$ by the structure sheaf $\mathcal{O}_S$ with the extension class $c_1(L)$. We show the following two results: (i) If $-(K_S+\Delta)$ is ample and $(S, \Delta)$ is K-semistable, then for any $\lambda\in \mathbb{Q}_{>0}$, the extension sheaf $\mathscr{E}({\lambda c_1(-(K_S+\Delta))})$ is slope semistable with respect to $-(K_S+\Delta)$; (ii) If $K_S+\Delta\equiv 0$, then for any ample $\mathbb{Q}$-line bundle $L$ over $S$, $\mathscr{E}(L)$ is slope semistable with respect to $L$. These results generalize Tian's result where $-K_S$ is ample and $\Delta=\emptyset$. We give two applications of these results. The first is to study a question by Borbon-Spotti about the relationship between local Euler numbers and normalized volumes of log canonical surface singularities. We prove that the two invariants differ only by a factor $4$ when the log canonical pair is an orbifold cone over a marked Riemann surface. The second application is to derive Miyaoka-Yau-type inequalities on K-semistable log-smooth Fano pairs and Calabi-Yau pairs, which generalize some Chern-number inequalities proved by Song-Wang.

Abstract:Given an affine variety X and a finite dimensional vector space of regular functions L on X, we associate a convex body to (X, L) such that its volume is responsible for the number of solutions of a generic system of functions from L. This is a far reaching generalization of usual theory of Newton polytopes (which is concerned with toric varieties). As applications we give new, simple and transparent proofs of some well-known theorems in both algebraic geometry (e.g. Hodge Index Theorem) and convex geometry (e.g. Alexandrov-Fenchel inequality). Our main tools are classical Hilbert theory on degree of subvarieties of a projective space (in algebraic geometry) and Brunn-Minkowski inequality (in convex geometric).

Secant varieties of curves, Ulrich bundles and the arithmetic writhe

Abstract:We establish a connection between the theory of Ulrich sheaves and $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy theory. For instance, we prove that the $\mathbb{A}^1$-degree of a morphism between projective varieties, that is relatively oriented by an Ulrich sheaf, is constant on the target even when it is not $\mathbb{A}^1$-connected. Further if an embedded projective variety is the support of a symmetric Ulrich sheaf of rank one, the $\mathbb{A}^1$-degree of all its linear projections can be read off in an explicit way from the free resolution of the Ulrich sheaf. Finally, we construct an Ulrich sheaf on the secant variety of a curve and use this to define an arithmetic version of Viro's encomplexed writhe for curves in $\mathbb{P}^3$. This can be considered to be an arithmetic analogue of a link invariant.
