Abstract:By giving an estimate on the minimal slopes, we prove a Hilbert-Samuel formula for semiample and semipositive adelic line bundles. We also show the birational invariance of the arithmetic {\chi}-volume and its continuous extension on the semiample cone.

Abstract:Let p : chi -> S be a proper Kahler fibration and epsilon -> chi a Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle. As motivated by the work of Berndtsson ([Bern09]), by using basic Hodge theory, we derive several general curvature formulas for the direct image p(*) (K-chi/S circle times epsilon) for general Hermitian holomorphic vector bundle epsilon in a simple way. A straightforward application is that, if the family chi -> S is infinitesimally trivial and Hermitian vector bundle epsilon is Nakano-negative along the base S, then the direct image p(*) (K-chi/S circle times epsilon) is Nakano-negative. We also use these curvature formulas to study the moduli space of projectively flat vector bundles with positive first Chern classes and obtain that, if the Chern curvature of direct image p(*)(K-X circle times E)-of a positive projectively flat family (E, h(t))(t is an element of D) -> X-vanishes, then the curvature forms of this family are connected by holomorphic automorphisms of the pair (X, E).

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the geometry of the moduli space of curves by using the curvature properties of direct image sheaves of vector bundles. We show that the moduli space $(M_g, \omega_{WP})$ of curves with genus $g>1$ has dual-Nakano negative and semi-Nakano-negative curvature, and in particular, it has non-positive Riemannain curvature operator and also non-positive complex sectional curvature. As applications, we prove that any submanifold in $M_g$ which is totally geodesic in $A_g$ with finite volume must be a ball quotient. We also show that, on a Kodaira (deformation) surface, there is no K\"ahler metric with non-positive Riemannain sectional curvature although it possesses K\"ahler metrics with strictly negative holomorphic bisectional curvature.

Abstract: This paper discuss an intrinsic relation among congruent relations \cite{CLPZ}, cyclotomic expansion and Volume Conjecture for $SU(n)$ invariants. Motivated by the congruent relations for $SU(n)$ invariants obtained in our previous work \cite{CLPZ}, we study certain limits of the $SU(n)$ invariants at various roots of unit. First, we prove a new symmetry property for the $SU(n)$ invariants by using a symmetry of colored HOMFLYPT invariants. Then we propose some conjectural formulas including the cyclotomic expansion conjecture and volume conjecture for $SU(n)$ invariants (specialization of colored HOMFLYPT invariants). We also give the proofs of these conjectural formulas for the case of figure-eight knot.

Abstract: For a hermitian line bundle over an arithmetic variety, we construct a convex continuous function on the Okounkov body associated to the generic fibre of the line bundle. The integration of the continuous function gives the growth of the Euler characteristic of the hermitian line bundle. It is the global version of the recent work of Nystrom.

Abstract:We give formulas for various valuative invariants of linearized ample line bundles on a projective spherical variety. Then we show how to use these formulas to study $g$-solitons on a Fano spherical variety. As a corollary, we show that for a Fano horospherical manifold $X$, the corresponding cone $(K_{X})^{\times}$ always admits a Calabi-Yau cone metric.

Abstract:We study the canonical stability index of nonsingular projective varieties of general type with either large canonical volume or large geometric genus. Abstract:Let $S$ be a smooth projective variety and $\Delta$ a simple normal crossing $\mathbb{Q}$-divisor with coefficients in $(0,1]$. For any ample $\mathbb{Q}$-line bundle $L$ over $S$, we denote by $\mathscr{E}(L)$ the extension sheaf of the orbifold tangent sheaf $T_S(-\log(\Delta))$ by the structure sheaf $\mathcal{O}_S$ with the extension class $c_1(L)$. We show the following two results: (i) If $-(K_S+\Delta)$ is ample and $(S, \Delta)$ is K-semistable, then for any $\lambda\in \mathbb{Q}_{>0}$, the extension sheaf $\mathscr{E}({\lambda c_1(-(K_S+\Delta))})$ is slope semistable with respect to $-(K_S+\Delta)$; (ii) If $K_S+\Delta\equiv 0$, then for any ample $\mathbb{Q}$-line bundle $L$ over $S$, $\mathscr{E}(L)$ is slope semistable with respect to $L$. These results generalize Tian's result where $-K_S$ is ample and $\Delta=\emptyset$. We give two applications of these results. The first is to study a question by Borbon-Spotti about the relationship between local Euler numbers and normalized volumes of log canonical surface singularities. We prove that the two invariants differ only by a factor $4$ when the log canonical pair is an orbifold cone over a marked Riemann surface. The second application is to derive Miyaoka-Yau-type inequalities on K-semistable log-smooth Fano pairs and Calabi-Yau pairs, which generalize some Chern-number inequalities proved by Song-Wang.

Abstract:For divisors over smooth projective varieties, we show that the volume can be characterized by the duality between the pseudo-effective cone of divisors and the movable cone of curves. Inspired by this result, we define and study a natural intersection-theoretic volume functional for 1-cycles over compact Kähler manifolds. In particular, for numerical equivalence classes of curves over projective varieties, it is closely related to the mobility functional studied by Lehmann.

Abstract:This paper concerns the construction of minimal varieties with small canonical volumes. The first part devotes to establishing an effective nefness criterion for the canonical divisor of a weighted blow-up over a weighted hypersurface, from which we construct plenty of new minimal 3 -folds including 59 families of minimal 3 -folds of general type, several infinite series of minimal 3 -folds of Kodaira dimension 2, 2 families of minimal 3 -folds of general type on the Noether line, and 12 families of minimal 3 -folds of general type near the Noether line. In the second part, we prove effective lower bounds of canonical volumes of minimal n -folds of general type with canonical dimension n - 1 or n - 2. Examples are provided to show that the theoretical lower bounds are optimal in dimension at most 5 and nearly optimal in higher dimensions.
Secant varieties of curves, Ulrich bundles and the arithmetic writhe

Abstract:We establish a connection between the theory of Ulrich sheaves and $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy theory. For instance, we prove that the $\mathbb{A}^1$-degree of a morphism between projective varieties, that is relatively oriented by an Ulrich sheaf, is constant on the target even when it is not $\mathbb{A}^1$-connected. Further if an embedded projective variety is the support of a symmetric Ulrich sheaf of rank one, the $\mathbb{A}^1$-degree of all its linear projections can be read off in an explicit way from the free resolution of the Ulrich sheaf. Finally, we construct an Ulrich sheaf on the secant variety of a curve and use this to define an arithmetic version of Viro's encomplexed writhe for curves in $\mathbb{P}^3$. This can be considered to be an arithmetic analogue of a link invariant.

Abstract:Let $V$ be a complex nonsingular projective 3-fold of general type. We shall give a detailed classification up to baskets of singularities on a minimal model of $V$. We show that the $m$-canonical map of $V$ is birational for all $m\geq 73$ and that the canonical volume $\text{Vol}(V)\geq {1/2660}$. When $\chi(\mathcal{O}_V)\leq 1$, our result is $\text{Vol}(V)\geq {1/420}$, which is optimal. Other effective results are also included in the paper.
Volume forms on balanced manifolds and the Calabi-Yau equation

Abstract:We introduce the space of mixed-volume forms endowed with an $L^2$ metric on a balanced manifold. A geodesic equation can be derived in this space that has an interesting structure and extends the equation of Donaldson \cite{Donaldson10} and Chen-He \cite{CH11} in the space of volume forms on a Riemannian manifold. This nonlinear PDE is studied in detail and the existence of weak solution is shown for the Dirichlet problem, under a positivity assumption. Later we study the Calabi-Yau equation for balanced metrics and introduce a geometric criteria for prescribing volume forms that is closely related to the positivity assumption above. We call this assumption the sub-Astheno-Kähler condition. By deriving $C^0$ a priori estimates, we show that the existence of solutions can be established on all sub-Astheno-Kähler manifolds.

Perverse sheaves on varieties with large fundamental groups

Abstract:We conjecture that any perverse sheaf on a compact aspherical Kähler manifold has non-negative Euler characteristic. This extends the Singer-Hopf conjecture in the Kähler setting. We verify the stronger conjecture when the manifold X has non-positive holomorphic bisectional curvature. We also show that the conjecture holds when X is projective and in possession of a faithful semi-simple rigid local system. The first result is proved by expressing the Euler characteristic as an intersection number involving the characteristic cycle, and then using the curvature conditions to deduce non-negativity. For the second result, we have that the local system underlies a complex variation of Hodge structure. We then deduce the desired inequality from the curvature properties of the image of the period map.

On canonical bundle formula for fibrations of curves with arithmetic genus one

Abstract:In this paper, we develop canonical bundle formulas for fibrations of relative dimension one in characteristic $p>0$. For such a fibration from a log pair $f\colon (X, \Delta) \to S$, if $f$ is separable, we can obtain a formula similar to the one due to Witaszek \cite{Wit21}; if $f$ is inseparable, we treat the case when $S$ is of maximal Albanese dimension. As an application, we prove that for a klt pair $(X,\Delta)$ with $-(K_X+\Delta)$ nef, if the Albanese morphism $a_X\colon X \to A$ is of relative dimension one, then $X$ is a fiber space over $A$.

Positivity Functions for Curves on Algebraic Varieties

Abstract:This is the second part of our work on Zariski decomposition structures, where we compare two different volume type functions for curve classes. The first function is the polar transform of the volume for ample divisor classes. The second function captures the asymptotic geometry of curves analogously to the volume function for divisors. We prove that the two functions coincide, generalizing Zariski's classical result for surfaces to all varieties. Our result confirms the log concavity conjecture of the first named author for weighted mobility of curve classes in an unexpected way, via Legendre-Fenchel type transforms. We also give a number of applications to birational geometry, including a refined structure theorem for the movable cone of curves.
