Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective variety of dimension $5$ and $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$ such that $L^5>7^5$ and $L^d\cdot Z\geq 7^d$ for any subvariety $Z$ of dimension $1\leq d\leq 4$. We show that $\mathcal{O}_X(K_X+L)$ is globally generated.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective variety over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ with arbitrary characteristic. Suppose $L$ is an ample and globally generated line bundle. By Castelnuovo--Mumford regularity, we show that $K_X \otimes L^{\otimes \dim X} \otimes A$ is globally generated and $K_X \otimes L^{\otimes (\dim X+1)} \otimes A$ is very ample, provided the line bundle $A$ is nef but not numerically trivial. On complex projective varieties, by investigating Kawamata-Viehweg-Nadel type vanishing theorems for vector bundles, we also obtain the global generation for adjoint vector bundles. In particular, for a holomorphic submersion $f:X\longrightarrow Y$ with $L$ ample and globally generated, and $A$ nef but not numerically trivial, we prove the global generation of $ f_*(K_{X/Y})^{\otimes s}\otimes K_Y \otimes L^{\otimes \dim Y} \otimes A$ for any positive integer $s$.

Abstract:We give an algebraic-geometric proof of the fact that for a smooth fibration $\pi: X \longrightarrow Y$ of projective varieties, the direct image $\pi_*(L\otimes K_{X/Y})$ of the adjoint line bundle of an ample (respectively, nef and $\pi$-strongly big) line bundle $L$ is ample (respectively, nef and big).

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple algebraic group of type $F_{4}$, $E_{6}$, $E_{7}$ or $E_{8}$, and let $\mathfrak{g}$ be its Lie algebra. The adjoint variety $X_{ad} \subseteq \mathbb{P} \mathfrak{g}$ is defined as the unique closed orbit of the adjoint action of $G$ on $\mathbb{P}\mathfrak{g}$. $X_{ad}$ is a Fano contact manifold covered by lines in $\mathbb{P} \mathfrak{g}$. The subadjoint variety $S \subseteq \mathbb{P} W$ is denoted by the variety of lines on $X_{ad}$ through a fixed point $x$, where $W \subseteq T_{x}X$ is taken as the contact hyperplane. It follows from a result in representation theory of Vinberg that the GIT quotient space of codimension two linear sections of $S$ is isomorphic to the weighted projective space $\mathbb{P}(1,3,4,6)$. In this note, we investigate the problem of finding a geometric interpretation of the above isomorphism. As a main result, for each $\mathfrak{g}$ of the above type, we construct a natural open embedding of the GIT quotient space of nonsingular codimension two linear sections of $S$ into $\mathbb{P}(1,3,4,6)$ whose complement is a fixed hypersurface of degree 12. The key ingredient of our construction is to apply a correspondence of Bahargava and Ho which relates the above moduli problem to a moduli problem on curves of genus one.

Abstract:Let X be a smooth curve of genus g which is a multiple covering φ:X→Y of a smooth curve Y . We define an invariant Δφ of the map φ , which is the maximum among the integers m such that for a base point free line bundle L on X with degL≤g−1 the inequality Cliff(L)≤m implies that L is composed with φ . Our main result is that a very ample special line bundle L on X with degL>3g−32 is normally generated when Cliff(L)≤Δφ under additional numerical conditions.

Abstract:To a family of smooth projective cubic surfaces one can canonically associate a family of abelian fivefolds. In characteristic zero, we calculate the Hodge groups of the abelian varieties which arise in this way. In arbitrary characteristic we calculate the monodromy group of the universal family of abelian varieties, and thus show that the Galois group of the 27 lines on a suitably general cubic surface in positive characteristic is as large as possible.

Abstract:We introduce a new method to study mixed characteristic deformation of line bundles. In particular, for sufficiently large smooth projective families $f : \mathcal{X} \to \mathcal{S}$ defined over the ring of $N$-integers $\mathcal{O}_{L}[1/N]$ of a number field $L$, we produce a proper closed subscheme $\mathcal{E} \subsetneq \mathcal{S}$ outside of which all line bundles appearing in positive characteristic fibres of $f$ admit characteristic zero lifts. This in particular applies to elliptic surfaces over $\mathbb{P}^1$ and projective hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^3$ of degree $d \geq 5$. We also study the locus in $\mathcal{E}$ in more detail in the $h^{0, 2} = 2$ case.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a $n$-dimensional smooth projective variety and $L$ be an ample Cartier divisor on $X$. We conjecture that a very general element of the linear system $|K_X+(3n+1)L|$ is a hyperbolic algebraic variety. This conjecture holds for some classical varieties: surfaces, products of projective spaces, and Grassmannians. In this article, we investigate the conjecture for $X$ a toric variety. We give a positive answer to the conjecture for smooth projective toric varieties. For a Gorenstein toric threefold $X$, we show that $|K_X+9L|$ is a hyperbolic linear system for any ample Cartier divisor $L$.

Generating Functions for Line Bundle Cohomology Dimensions on Complex Projective Varieties

Abstract:This paper explores the possibility of constructing multivariate generating functions for all cohomology dimensions of all holomorphic line bundles on certain complex projective varieties of Fano, Calabi-Yau and general type in various dimensions and Picard numbers. Most of the results are conjectural and rely on explicit cohomology computations. We first propose a generating function for the Euler characteristic of all holomorphic line bundles on complete intersections in products of projective spaces and toric varieties. This generating function is constructed by expanding the Hilbert-Poincare series associated with the coordinate ring of the variety around all possible combinations of zero and infinity and then summing up the resulting contributions with alternating signs. Similar generating functions are proposed for the individual cohomology dimensions of all holomorphic line bundles on certain complete intersections, including examples of Mori and non-Mori dream spaces. Surprisingly, the examples studied indicate that a single generating function encodes both the zeroth and all higher cohomologies upon expansion around different combinations of zero and infinity, raising the question whether such generating functions determine the variety uniquely.

Abstract:We investigate the positivity properties of the direct image $f_{\ast}(K_{X/Y} \otimes L)$ of the adjoint line bundle associated with a big and nef line bundle $L$, under a smooth fibration $f: X\to Y$ between projective varieties. Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective manifold with $\dim _{\mathbb{C}}X=n$ . We show that if a line bundle $L$ is $(n-1)$ -ample, then it is $(n-1)$ -positive. This is a partial converse to the Andreotti–Grauert theorem. Abstract:Up to now the only known constantly curved sextic curve, i.e., holomorphic 2-sphere of degree 6, in the complex $G(2,5)$ has been the first associated curve of the Veronese curve of degree 4, which indicates that such curves are rare to find. Exploring the rich interplay between the ramification of harmonic sequences in differential geometry and algebro-geometric properties of projectively equivalent Fano 3-folds of index 2 and degree 5, we invoke the moduli space structure of sextic curves in the Fano 3-fold often referred to as $V_5$ to confirm the rarity of constancy of curvature, by establishing that the harmonic sequence of a generic sextic curve in $G(2, 5)$ is totally unramified. This paper proposes to investigate from the Galois viewpoint the way ramification can appear in relation to the constancy of curvature among nongeneric sextic curves in $G(2, 5)$. We prove through elaborate $PSL_2$-transvectant and engaged unitary analyses that, up to the ambient unitary equivalence, the moduli space of constantly curved sextic curves in $G(2,5)$ that are $GL(5,{\mathbb C})$-equivalent to those in $V_5$ ramified at the $PSL_2$-invariant 1-dimensional singular locus somewhere, is semialgebraic of dimension 2 all members of which barring the above Veronese curve are nonhomogeneous. Many explicit examples can be constructed.
