Abstract:In this paper, we shall show that the only primitive Schur ring over a semi dihedral group is the trivial one and every semi dihedral subgroup is Burnside group, that is a primitive group containing a regular subgroup isomorphic to the semi dihedral subgroup is necessarily 2-transitive.

Abstract:Schur rings over the infinite dihedral group Z⋊Z2 are studied according to properties of Schur rings over infinite groups and the classification of Schur rings over infinite cyclic groups. Schur rings over Z⋊Z2 are classified under the assumption that Z is an A -subgroup. Those Schur rings are proved to be traditional.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe the structure of the direct product of partial Burnside rings of relative to the collection of a finite group. In particular, we show that the unit group of the partial Burnside ring relative to the set of all parabolic subgroups of a reducible finite Coxeter group is isomorphic to the direct product of unit groups of the partial Burnside ring of irreducible Coxeter group.

Abstract:Diaconis and Isaacs have defined the supercharacter theories of a finite group to be certain approximations to the ordinary character theory of the group. We make explicit the connection between supercharacter theories and Schur rings, and we provide supercharacter theory constructions which correspond to Schur ring constructions of Leung and Man and of Tamaschke.

Abstract:An S -ring (Schur ring) is said to be central if it is contained in the center of a group ring. We introduce the notion of a generalized Schur group, i.e., a finite group such that all central S -rings over this group are Schurian. It generalizes the notion of a Schur group in a natural way, and for Abelian groups, the two notions are equivalent. We prove basic properties and present infinite families of non-Abelian generalized Schur groups.

Abstract:We consider the central Schur ring associated with the standard supercharacters of the adjoint group G(A) of a finite radical ring A , and define supercharacters of the subgroup CG(A)(σ) consisting of elements fixed by an involution of G(A) naturally defined by an (anti-)involution of A . In particular, we extend known results for unipotent subgroups of the classical finite Chevalley groups.

Abstract:In this paper, the author studies the regularity of Munn rings and completely 0-simple semigroup rings. When either (i)R is a ring with identity andI and Λ are infinite, or (ii)R is a strong IBN and fully Dedekind-finite ring with identity and eitherI or Λ is finite, in Section 2, the regularity of the Munn ringM(R; I, Λ; P) is characterized; in Section 3, for a completely 0-simple semigroupS =M°(G; I, Λ; P), the regularity ofRS is characterized. Meantime, the author shows that for a locally finite monoidS and a ringR with identity,RS is a strong IBN ring if and only ifR is so;RS is fully Dedekind-finite if and only ifR is so.

Abstract:In this note, we define the Burnside ring of a monoid, generalizing the construction for groups. After giving foundational definitions, we characterize transitive M-sets and their automorphisms, then prove a structure theorem for a broad class of monoids that allows us to write the Burnside ring as a direct product of Burnside rings of groups. Finally, we define a monoid correlate of the table of marks, and show that the Burnside algebra over the rationals is semisimple.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce the definition of groupoid graded rings. Group graded rings, (skew) groupoid rings, artinian semisimple rings, matrix rings and others can be regarded as special kinds of groupoid graded rings. Our main task is to classify strongly groupoid graded rings by cohomology of groupoids. Some classical results about group graded rings are generalized to groupoid graded rings. In particular, the Clifford Theorem for a strongly groupoid graded ring is given.

Abstract:In this paper we shall be looking at several results relating Schur rings to sufficient conditions for a graph to be a graphical regular representation (GRR) of a finite group, and then applying these specifically in the case of certain subfamilies of dihedral groups. Numerical methods are given for constructing trivalent GRRs for these dihedral groups very quickly.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a permutation group on a set $\Omega$. A subset of $\Omega$ is a base for $G$ if its pointwise stabilizer in $G$ is trivial. By $b(G)$ we denote the size of the smallest base of $G$. Every permutation group with $b(G)=2$ contains some regular suborbits. It is conjectured by Burness-Giudici in [4] that every primitive permutation group $G$ with $b(G)=2$ has the property that if $\alpha^g\not\in \Gamma$ then $\Gamma \cap \Gamma^g\neq \emptyset$, where $\Gamma$ is the union of all regular suborbits of $G$ relative to $\alpha$. An affirmative answer of the conjecture has been shown for many sporadic simple groups and some alternative groups in [4], but it is still open for simple groups of Lie-type. The first candidate of infinite family of simple groups of Lie-type we should work on might be $PSL(2,q)$, where $q\geq 5$. In this manuscript, we show the correctness of the conjecture for all the primitive groups with socle $PSL(2,q)$, see Theorem $1.3$.

Abstract:An $S$-ring (a Schur ring) is said to be separable with respect to a class of groups $\mathcal{K}$ if every algebraic isomorphism from the $S$-ring in question to an $S$-ring over a group from $\mathcal{K}$ is induced by a combinatorial isomorphism. A finite group $G$ is said to be separable with respect to $\mathcal{K}$ if every $S$-ring over $G$ is separable with respect to $\mathcal{K}$. We prove that every abelian group $G$ of order $9p$, where $p$ is a prime, is separable with respect to the class of all finite abelian groups. Modulo previously obtained results, this completes a classification of noncyclic abelian groups of odd order that are separable with respect to the class of all finite abelian groups. Also this implies that the Weisfeiler-Leman dimension of the class of Cayley graphs over $G$ is at most 2.

Abstract:In this paper, we determine the finite groups with a Sylow $r$-subgroup contained in a unique maximal subgroup. The proof involves a reduction to almost simple groups, and our main theorem extends earlier work of Aschbacher in the special case $r=2$. Several applications are presented. This includes some new results on weakly subnormal subgroups of finite groups, which can be used to study variations of the Baer-Suzuki theorem.

Abstract:We study commutative Schur rings over the symplectic groups Sp$(n,2)$ containing the class $\mathcal C$ of symplectic transvections. We find the possible partitions of $\mathcal C$ determined by the Schur ring. We show how this restricts the possibilities for multiplicity one subgroups of Sp$(n,2)$.

Subgroups of word hyperbolic groups in dimension 2 over arbitrary rings

Abstract:In 1996, Gersten proved that finitely presented subgroups of a word hyperbolic group of integral cohomological dimension 2 are hyperbolic. We use isoperimetric inequalities over arbitrary rings to extend this result to any ring. In particular, we study the discrete isoperimetric function and show that its linearity is equivalent to hyperbolicity, which is also equivalent to it being subquadratic. We further use these ideas to obtain conditions for subgroups of higher rank hyperbolic groups to be again higher rank hyperbolic of the same rank. The appendix discusses the equivalence between isoperimetric inequalities and coning inequalities in the simplicial setting and the general setting, leading to combinatorial definitions of higher rank hyperbolicity in the setting of simplicial complexes and allowing us to give elementary definitions of higher rank hyperbolic groups.
