Abstract:In this paper, we continue the enumeration of Schur rings over cyclic groups. Cyclic groups of semiprime order $pq$, where $p$ and $q$ are distinct primes, are considered. Additionally, cyclic groups of order $4p$ are considered.

In this paper, Schur rings over free abelian group of rank two are classified under the assumption that one of the direct factor is a union of some basic sets. There are eight different types, and all but one type of which are traditional.

Abstract:An $S$-ring (a Schur ring) is said to be separable with respect to a class of groups $\mathcal{K}$ if every algebraic isomorphism from the $S$-ring in question to an $S$-ring over a group from $\mathcal{K}$ is induced by a combinatorial isomorphism. A finite group $G$ is said to be separable with respect to $\mathcal{K}$ if every $S$-ring over $G$ is separable with respect to $\mathcal{K}$. We prove that every abelian group $G$ of order $9p$, where $p$ is a prime, is separable with respect to the class of all finite abelian groups. Modulo previously obtained results, this completes a classification of noncyclic abelian groups of odd order that are separable with respect to the class of all finite abelian groups. Also this implies that the Weisfeiler-Leman dimension of the class of Cayley graphs over $G$ is at most 2.

Abstract:It is the main objective of this paper to show a vanishing result for cuspidal cohomology of arithmetic groups in classical groups~$G$ defined over some number field~$k$.Our approach relies on the fact that cuspidal automorphic forms are nonsingular in the sense of Howe. This result puts a strong constraint on the (archimedean components of) irreducible cuspidal automorphic representations of $G$that can possibly contribute to the cuspidal cohomology. Combining this with the classification of Vogan-Zuckerman of unitary representations with nonzero cohomologyprovides a constant $r_0(G/k)$, only depending on $G/k$, below which the cuspidal cohomology vanishes. We will give a formula for this constant for each classical group of type (I) in the classification scheme due to Weil. We conclude with making this result explicit for some split classical groups over a totally real algebraic number field.

Abstract:Schur rings over the infinite dihedral group Z⋊Z2 are studied according to properties of Schur rings over infinite groups and the classification of Schur rings over infinite cyclic groups. Schur rings over Z⋊Z2 are classified under the assumption that Z is an A -subgroup. Those Schur rings are proved to be traditional.

Abstract:We study commutative Schur rings over the symplectic groups Sp$(n,2)$ containing the class $\mathcal C$ of symplectic transvections. We find the possible partitions of $\mathcal C$ determined by the Schur ring. We show how this restricts the possibilities for multiplicity one subgroups of Sp$(n,2)$.

Abstract:The paper concerns the automorphism groups of Cayley graphs over cyclic groups which have a rational spectrum (rational circulant graphs for short). With the aid of the techniques of Schur rings it is shown that the problem is equivalent to consider the automorphism groups of orthogonal group block structures of cyclic groups. Using this observation, the required groups are expressed in terms of generalized wreath products of symmetric groups.

Abstract:Let p denote an odd prime. For all p-admissible conductors c over a quadratic number field [Formula: see text], p-ring spaces V p (c) modulo c are introduced by defining a morphism ψ : f ↦ V p (f) from the divisor lattice N of positive integers to the lattice S of subspaces of the direct product V p of the p-elementary class group C/C p and unit group U/U p of K. Their properties admit an exact count of all extension fields N over K, having the dihedral group of order 2p as absolute Galois group Gal (N | Q) and sharing a common discriminant d N and conductor c over K. The number m p (d, c) of these extensions is given by a formula in terms of positions of p-ring spaces in S, whose complexity increases with the dimension of the vector space V p over the finite field F p , called the modified p-class rank σ p of K. Up to now, explicit multiplicity formulas for discriminants were known for quadratic fields with 0 ≤ σ p ≤ 1 only. Here, the results are extended to σ p = 2, underpinned by concrete numerical examples.

Abstract:A finite group is said to be a Leinster group if the sum of the orders of its normal subgroups equals twice the order of the group itself. Let $p<q<r<s$ be primes. We prove that if $G$ is a Leinster group of order $p^2qr$, then $G \cong Q_{20}\times C_{19}$ or $Q_{28} \times C_{13}$. We also prove that no group of order $pqrs$ is Leinster.

Abstract:The {\it Weierstrass semigroup} of pole orders of meromorphic functions in a point $p$ of a smooth algebraic curve $C$ is a classical object of study; a celebrated problem of Hurwitz is to characterize which semigroups ${\rm S} \subset \mathbb{N}$ with finite complement are {\it realizable} as Weierstrass semigroups ${\rm S}= {\rm S}(C,p)$. In this note, we establish realizability results for cyclic covers $\pi: (C,p) \rightarrow (B,q)$ of hyperelliptic targets $B$ marked in hyperelliptic Weierstrass points; and we show that realizability is dictated by the behavior under $j$-fold multiplication of certain divisor classes in hyperelliptic Jacobians naturally associated to our cyclic covers, as $j$ ranges over all natural numbers.

Abstract:An S -ring (Schur ring) is said to be central if it is contained in the center of a group ring. We introduce the notion of a generalized Schur group, i.e., a finite group such that all central S -rings over this group are Schurian. It generalizes the notion of a Schur group in a natural way, and for Abelian groups, the two notions are equivalent. We prove basic properties and present infinite families of non-Abelian generalized Schur groups.

Abstract:We classify the finite primitive permutation groups which have a cyclic subgroup with two orbits. This extends classical topics in permutation group theory, and has arithmetic consequences. By a theorem of C. L. Siegel, affine algebraic curves with infinitely many integral points are parametrized by rational functions whose monodromy groups have this property. We classify the possibilities of these monodromy groups, and give an application to Hilbert's irreducibility theorem.

Counting conjugacy classes of subgroups of ${\rm PSL}_2(p)$

Abstract:We obtain formulae for the numbers of isomorphism and conjugacy classes of non-identity proper subgroups of the groups $G={\rm PSL}_2(p)$, $p$ prime, and for the numbers of those conjugacy classes which do or do not consist of self-normalising subgroups. The formulae are used to prove lower bounds $17$, $18$, $6$ and $12$ respectively satisfied by these invariants for all $p>37$. A computer search carried out for a different problem shows that these bounds are attained for over a million primes $p$; we show that if the Bateman--Horn Conjecture is true, they are attained for infinitely many primes. Also, assuming no unproved conjectures, we use a result of Heath-Brown to obtain upper bounds for these invariants, valid for an infinite set of primes $p$.

Abstract:Let (k1,k2,k3,k4) be a quartet of cyclic cubic number fields sharing a common conductor c=pqr divisible by exactly three prime(power)s p,q,r. For those components k of the quartet whose 3-class group Cl(3,k) = Z/3Z x Z/3Z is elementary bicyclic, the automorphism group M = Gal(F(3,2,k)/k) of the maximal metabelian unramified 3-extension of k is determined by conditions for cubic residue symbols between p,q,r and for ambiguous principal ideals in subfields of the common absolute 3-genus field k* of k1,k2,k3,k4. With the aid of the relation rank d2(M), it is decided whether M coincides with the Galois group G = Gal(F(3,infinity,k)/k) of the maximal unramified pro-3-extension of k.

Abstract:We give a classification and complete algebraic description of groups allowing only finitely many (left multiplication invariant) circular orders. In particular, they are all solvable groups with a specific semi-direct product decomposition. This allows us to also show that the space of circular orders of any group is either finite or uncountable. As a special case and first step, we show that the space of circular orderings of an infinite Abelian group has no isolated points, hence is homeomorphic to a cantor set.

Abstract:We prove that the Krull-Schmidt decomposition of the Galois module of the $p$-adic completion of algebraic units is controlled by the primes that are ramified in the Galois extension and the $S$-ideal class group. We also compute explicit upper bounds for the number of possible Galois module structures of algebraic units when the Galois group is cyclic of order $p^{2}$ or $p^{3}$.

On a bijection between a finite group to a non-cyclic group with divisibility of element orders

Abstract:Consider a finite group $G$ of order $n$ with a prime divisor $p$. In this article, we establish, among other results, that if the Sylow $p$-subgroup of $G$ is neither cyclic nor generalized quaternion, then there exists a bijection $f$ from $G$ onto the abelian group $C_{\frac{n}{p}}\times C_p$ such that for every element $x$ in $G$, the order of $x$ divides the order of $f(x)$. This resolves Question 1.5 posed in [15]. As application of our results, we show that the group with the third largest value of the sum of element orders in the set of all finite groups of order $n$ is a solvable $p$-nilpotent group where $p$ is the smallest prime divisor of $n$ such that the Sylow $p$-subgroups are not cyclic.
