Abstract:Ramanujan (1916) and Shen (1999) discovered differential equations for classical Eisenstein series. Motivated by them, we derive new differential equations for Eisenstein series of level 2 from the second kind of Jacobi theta function. This gives a new characterization of a system of differential equations by Ablowitz-Chakravarty-Hahn (2006), Hahn (2008), Kaneko-Koike (2003), Maier (2011) and Toh (2011). As application, we show some arithmetic results on Ramanujan's tau function.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to derive and study new differential equations for Eisenstein series (especially Eisenstein series of level 2). Specifically, inspired by the work of Ramanujan (in 1916) and Shen (in 1999) on the differential equations of classical Eisenstein series, the author aims to derive new differential equations for Eisenstein series of level 2 starting from the second - type Jacobi theta function. ### Main contributions of the paper 1. **New differential equations**: The author has derived new differential equations for Eisenstein series of level 2, which provides new tools for understanding these series. \[ qE^*_{2m - 2}'=\frac{2m - 2}{\pi^2\zeta^*(2m - 2)}\sum_{k = 1}^{m - 1}\zeta^*(2k)\zeta^*(2m - 2k)(E^*_{2k}E^*_{2m - 2k}-E^*_{2m}) \] 2. **Connections with existing systems**: The author shows how these new differential equations are related to the systems proposed by Ablowitz - Chakravarty - Hahn (in 2006), Hahn (in 2008), Kaneko - Koike (in 2003), Maier (in 2011), Nikdelan (in 2022) and Toh (in 2011), etc. 3. **Applications to Ramanujan tau function**: As an application, the author shows the arithmetic properties of these new differential equations on the Ramanujan tau function, for example: \[ \tau(n)=70\sum_{j,k\geq0,j + k = n}(2k - 3j)\sigma_3(j)\sigma_5(k) \] 4. **Applications in the theory of modular forms**: The author also explores the applications of these differential equations in the theory of modular forms, especially studying the space of modular forms and their properties through Serre derivatives. ### Conclusion By introducing new differential equations, the author not only expands the understanding of Eisenstein series of level 2, but also provides new ways to study the Ramanujan tau function and other related problems. These results are of great significance for the research of number theory, modular forms and special functions.
