Abstract:Nonlinear Schrodinger/Gross-Pitaevskii equations play a central role in the understanding of nonlinear optical and macroscopic quantum systems. The large time dynamics of such systems is governed by interactions of the nonlinear ground state manifold, discrete neutral modes ("excited states") and dispersive radiation. Systems with symmetry, in spatial dimensions larger than one, typically have degenerate neutral modes. Thus, we study the large time dynamics of systems with degenerate neutral modes. This requires a new normal form (nonlinear matrix Fermi Golden Rule) governing the system's large time asymptotic relaxation to the ground state (soliton) manifold.

Abstract:Gallavotti proposed an equivalence principle in hydrodynamics, which states that forced-damped fluids can be equally well represented by means of the Navier-Stokes equations and by means of time reversible dynamical systems called GNS. In the GNS systems, the usual viscosity is replaced by a state-dependent dissipation term which fixes one global quantity. The principle states that the mean values of properly chosen observables are the same for both representations of the fluid. In the same paper, the chaotic hypothesis of Gallavotti and Cohen is applied to hydrodynamics, leading to the conjecture that entropy fluctuations in the GNS system verify a relation first observed in nonequilibrium molecular dynamics. We tested these ideas in the case of two-dimensional fluids. We examined the fluctuations of global quadratic quantities in the statistically stationary state of a) the Navier-Stokes equations; b) the GNS equations. Our results are consistent with the validity of the fluctuation relation, and of the equivalence principle, indicating possible extensions thereof. Moreover, in these results the difference between the Gallavotti-Cohen fluctuation theorem and the Evans-Searles identity is evident.

Abstract:Journal of Nonlinear Optical Physics &Materials, Ahead of Print. The breather, rogue and interaction waves of the (3+1)-dimensional integrable fourth-order nonlinear equation are reviewed. The breather and rouge waves are attained with the aid of the extended homoclinic test. Thereafter, the interaction solutions between a lump wave and a 1-kink or 2-kink soliton are researched. Additionally, four kinds of interaction solutions between lump, kink, and periodic waves through a " rational-cosh-cos" test function are established. Furthermore, the dynamic attributions of the attained solutions are presented utilizing the graphical analysis.

Abstract:An action functional is developed for nonlinear dislocation dynamics. This serves as a first step towards the application of effective field theory in physics to evaluate its potential in obtaining a macroscopic description of dislocation dynamics describing the plasticity of crystalline solids. Connections arise between the continuum mechanics and material science of defects in solids, effective field theory techniques in physics, and fracton tensor gauge theories. The scheme that emerges from this work for generating a variational principle for a nonlinear pde system is general, as is demonstrated by doing so for nonlinear elastostatics involving a stress response function that is not necessarily hyperelastic.

Abstract:This manuscript is a captivating exploration of the (3+1)-D nonlinear extended Quantum Zakharov-Kuznetsov (NLEQZK) equation, revealing its complex dynamics and solitary wave solutions. Abstract:In this paper we review a number of recent developments in the study of the Discrete Nonlinear Schrödinger (DNLS) equation. Results concerning ground and excited states, their construction, stability and bifurcations are presented in one and two spatial dimensions. Combinations of such steady states lead to the study of coherent structure bound states. A special case of such structures are the so-called twisted modes and their two-dimensional discrete vortex generalization. The ideas on such multi-coherent structures and their interactions are also useful in treating finite system effects through the image method. The statistical mechanics of the system is also analyzed and the partition function calculated in one spatial dimension using the transfer integral method. Finally, a number of open problems and future directions in the field are proposed.

Abstract:For a smooth Morse-Smale vector field with Lyapunov constraints (Lyapunov function) one shows how and why the non-triviality of the cohomology, as concluded from its additive structure, detects rest points and the multiplicative structure of the cohomology detects instantons (trajectories between rest points). The same remains true for Lyapunov closed one form, a more general Lyapunov constraint, but in this presentation this fact is discussed only informally. These observations are based on the smooth " manifold with corner structures" of the stable/unstable sets and of the set of trajectories of such vector fields. (This paper is a written version of two talks with the same title given at IMAR Bucharest in November 2023.)

Abstract:The use in the action integral of a volume element of the form $\Phi d^{D}x$ where $\Phi$ is a metric independent measure can give new interesting results in all types of known generally coordinate invariant theories: (1) 4-D theories of gravity plus matter fields; (2) Reparametrization invariant theories of extended objects; (3) Higher dimensional theories. In the case (1), a large number of new effects appears: under normal particle physics conditions (primordial) fermions split into three families; when matter is highly diluted, neutrinos increase their mass and can contribute both to dark energy and to dark matter. In the case (2), it leads to dynamically induced tension; to string models of non abelian confinement; to the possibility of new Weyl-conformally invariant light-like branes which dynamically adjust themselves to sit at black hole horizons; in the context of higher dimensional theories it can provide examples of massless 4-D particles with nontrivial Kaluza Klein quantum numbers. In the case (3), i.e. in brane and Kaluza Klein scenarios, the use of a metric independent measure makes it possible to construct naturally models where only the extra dimensions get curved and the 4-D remain flat.

Abstract:Nonlinear evolution equations (NLEEs) are extensively used to establish the elementary propositions of natural circumstances. In this work, we study the Konopelchenko–Dubrovsky (KD) equation which depicts non-linear waves in mathematical physics with weak dispersion. The considered model is investigated using the combination of generalized exponential rational function (GERF) method and dynamical system method. The GERF method is utilized to generate closed-form invariant solutions to the (2+1)-dimensional KD model in terms of trigonometric, hyperbolic, and exponential forms with the assistance of symbolic computations. Moreover, 3D, 2D combined line graph and their contour graphics are displayed to depict the behavior of obtained solitary wave solutions. The model is observed to have multiple soliton profiles, kink-wave profiles, and periodic oscillating nonlinear waves. These generated solutions have never been published in the literature. All the newly generated soliton solutions are checked by putting them back into the associated system with the soft computation via Wolfram Mathematica. Moreover, the system is converted into a planer dynamical system using a certain transformation and the analysis of bifurcation is examined. Furthermore, the quasi-periodic solution is investigated numerically for the perturbed system by inserting definite periodic forces into the considered model. With regard to the parameter of the perturbed model, two-dimensional and three-dimensional phase portraits are plotted.

Abstract:The scope of analog simulation in atomic, molecular, and optical systems has expanded greatly over the past decades. Recently, the idea of synthetic dimensions-in which transport occurs in a space spanned by internal or motional states coupled by field-driven transitions-has played a key role in this expansion. While approaches based on synthetic dimensions have led to rapid advances in single-particle Hamiltonian engineering, strong interaction effects have been conspicuously absent from most synthetic dimensions platforms. Here, in a lattice of coupled atomic momentum states, we show that atomic interactions result in large and qualitative changes to dynamics in the synthetic dimension. We explore how the interplay of nonlinear interactions and coherent tunneling enriches the dynamics of a one-band tight-binding model giving rise to macroscopic self-trapping and phase-driven Josephson dynamics with a nonsinusoidal current-phase relationship, which can be viewed as stemming from a nonlinear band structure arising from interactions.
Solitons, scattering and blow-up for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with combined power-type nonlinearities on $\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{T}$

Abstract:We investigate the long time dynamics of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) with combined powers on the waveguide manifold $\mathbb{R}^d\times\mathbb{T}$. Different from the previously studied NLS-models with single power on the waveguide manifolds, where the non-scale-invariance is mainly due to the mixed nature of the underlying domain, the non-scale-invariance of the present model is both geometrical and structural. By considering different combinations of the nonlinearities, we establish both qualitative and quantitative properties of the soliton, scattering and blow-up solutions. As one of the main novelties of the paper compared to the previous results for the NLS with single power, we particularly construct two different rescaled families of variational problems, which leads to an NLS with single power in different limiting profiles respectively, to establish the periodic dependence results.

Abstract:In this study, the (3+1)-dimensional nonlinear evolution equation is investigated analytically which have several applications including plasma, control theory, shallow water wave propagation, optical switching, fluid mechanics, engineering, optical computing, communication, and signal processing. Initially, the Hirota bilinear approach is used to develop the bilinear version of the higher dimensional nonlinear model. Consequently, we are able to design periodic wave soliton solutions, lump wave and single-kink soliton solutions, and collisions between lumps and periodic waves. Later on, the unified technique is applied to develop several new travelling wave solutions for the governing model substantially. Furthermore, numerous exact solutions are analyzed graphically to explore many fascinating nonlinear dynamical structures with the aid of 3D, contour, and 2D visualizations. A variety of higher dimensional nonlinear evolution models can also be investigated by employing present approaches arising in many fields of contemporary science and technology.

Abstract:We derive a scheme by which to solve the Liouville equation perturbatively in the nonlinearity, which we apply to weakly nonlinear classical field theories. Our solution is a variant of the Prigogine diagrammatic method, and is based on an analogy between the Liouville equation in infinite volume and scattering in quantum mechanics, described by the Lippmann-Schwinger equation. The motivation for our work is wave turbulence: a broad class of nonlinear classical field theories are believed to have a stationary turbulent state -- a far-from-equilibrium state, even at weak coupling. Our method provides an efficient way to derive properties of the weak wave turbulent state. A central object in these studies, which is a reduction of the Liouville equation, is the kinetic equation, which governs the occupation numbers of the modes. All properties of wave turbulence to date are based on the kinetic equation found at leading order in the weak nonlinearity. We explicitly obtain the kinetic equation to next-to-leading order.

Abstract:Nonlinear wave equations are central to the study of nonlinear optics and fluid dynamics. Notably, recent research has shown that solitons can be generated in mode-locked lasers. An interesting application of these lasers is the development of optical clocks which have the potential to be considerably more accurate than atomic clocks. Another important area of research in nonlinear optics is lattice dynamics where localized solitary wave or solitons can be obtained in periodic and irregular lattice systems. In honeycomb lattices, discrete and continuous nonlinear Dirac systems can be derived in certain parameter regimes; the Dirac systems describe conical diffraction, a phenomena observed in recent experiments. In water and internal waves the classical equations are reformulated as a system of coupled equations where the free surface equations are formulated as nonlocal equation and the depth variable is eliminated. These systems reduce to interesting asymptotic equations in suitable limits. A numerical method, termed spectral renormalization, is used to find solitary waves in nonlinear optics, water waves and multi-fluid systems.
