Abstract:Given a symmetry group one can construct the invariant dynamics using the technique of nonlinear realizations or the orbit method. The relationship between these methods is discussed. Few examples are presented.

Abstract:A coadjoint nilpotent orbit [inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href="01i" /] of a complex semisimple Lie group G is said to be spherical if it contains an open orbit of a Borel subgroup. We determine when and how to attach unitary representations to such an orbit for the real orthogonal and symplectic groups. Our results actually extend to a larger class of nilpotent coadjoint orbits.

Abstract:We consider a set of functions on the Poisson manifold related by a continuous one-parameter group of transformations. A class of vector fields that produce involutive families of functions is investigated and the relationship between these vector fields and non-Noether symmetries of Hamiltonian dynamical systems is outlined. The theory is illustrated with two examples: a modified Boussinesq system and a Broer–Kaup system.

Abstract:In this paper, the driven generalized time-dependent harmonic oscillator (DGTHO) is studied by making use of the new concept of quantum basic invariants. The connection between the quantum basic invariants and classical Noether's theorem is discussed. The classical basic invariants as well as the general form of classical invariants for the system are found. From these, we get the five Noether invariants and the set of corresponding infinitesimal generators {G(k)}, hence, generalizing the work of G. Profilo and G. Soliani. Also, for the system, we calculate the current algebra which, as the central extension of the {G(k)} algebra, should be regarded as the dynamical symmetry algebra for the system and is therefore more important than the {G(k)} algebra. Finally, we demonstrate the existence of a kind of converse of Noether's theorem.
Unipotent representations of real classical groups

Abstract:Let $mathbf G$ be a complex orthogonal or complex symplectic group, and let $G$ be a real form of $mathbf G$, namely $G$ is a real orthogonal group, a real symplectic group, a quaternionic orthogonal group, or a quaternionic symplectic group. For a fixed parity $mathbb pin mathbb Z/2mathbb Z$, we define a set $mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$ of nilpotent $mathbf G$-orbits $mathfrak g$ (the Lie algebra of $mathbf G$). When $mathbb p$ is the parity of the dimension of the standard module of $mathbf G$, this is the set of the stably trivial special nilpotent orbits, which includes all rigid special nilpotent orbits. For each $mathcal O in mathrm{Nil}^{mathbb p}_{mathbf G}(mathfrak g)$, we construct all unipotent representations of $G$ (or its metaplectic cover when $G$ is a real symplectic group and $mathbb p$ is odd) attached to $mathcal O$ via the method of theta lifting and show particular that they are unitary.
Mirror Symmetry for Special Nilpotent Orbit Closures

Abstract:Motivated by geometric Langlands, we initiate a program to study the mirror symmetry between nilpotent orbit closures of a semisimple Lie algebra and those of its Langlands dual. The most interesting case is $B_n$ via $C_n$. Classically, there is a famous Springer duality between special orbits. Therefore, it is natural to speculate that the mirror symmetry we seek may coincide with Springer duality in the context of special orbits. Unfortunately, such a naive statement fails. To remedy the situation, we propose a conjecture which asserts the mirror symmetry for certain parabolic/induced covers of special orbits. Then, we prove the conjecture for Richardson orbits and obtain certain partial results in general. In the process, we reveal some very interesting and yet subtle structures of these finite covers, which are related to Lusztig's canonical quotients of special nilpotent orbits. For example, there is a mysterious asymmetry in the footprint or range of degrees of these finite covers. Finally, we provide two examples to show that the mirror symmetry fails outside the footprint.

Abstract:We generalize the sufficient condition for the stability of relative periodic orbits in symmetric Hamiltonian systems presented in [J.-P. Ortega, T.S. Ratiu, J. Geom. Phys. 32 (1999) 131–159] to the case in which these orbits have non-trivial symmetry. We also describe a block diagonalization, similar in philosophy to the one presented in [J.-P. Ortega, T.S. Ratiu, Nonlinearity 12 (1999) 693–720] for relative equilibria, that facilitates the use of this result in particular examples and shows the relation between the stability of the relative periodic orbit and the orbital stability of the associated singular reduced periodic orbit.

Abstract:In this paper we construct two new families of invariant maps that separate the orbits of the action of a finite Abelian group on a finite dimensional complex vector space. One of these families is Lipschitz continuous with respect to the quotient metric on the space of orbits, but involves computing large powers of the components of the vectors which can lead to instabilities. The other family avoids this issue by putting the powers only on the phase of the components, but in turn is not continuous. However, we show that they are Lipschitz continuous on the set of vectors with fixed support, so in particular they are Lipschitz on the set of vectors with no zero entries. Furthermore, the target dimension of these maps is small, i.e., linear in the original dimension.

Abstract:A modified algorithm for the construction of nonlinear realizations (sigma models) is applied to the general covariance group. Our method features finite dimensionality of the coset manifold by letting the vacuum stability group be infinite. No decomposition of the symmetry group to its finite-dimensional subgroups is required. The expected result, i.e. Einstein-Cartan gravity, is finally obtained.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop the Koopman operator theory for dynamical systems with symmetry. In particular, we investigate how the Koopman operator and eigenfunctions behave under the action of the symmetry group of the underlying dynamical system. Further, exploring the underlying symmetry, we propose an algorithm to construct a global Koopman operator from local Koopman operators. In particular, we show, by exploiting the symmetry, data from all the invariant sets are not required for constructing the global Koopman operator; that is, local knowledge of the system is enough to infer the global dynamics.

Abstract:We present an application of a recently introduced variant of orbit space reduction for symmetric dynamical systems. This variant works with suitable localizations of the algebra of polynomial invariants of the group actions, and provides reduction to a variety that is embedded in a low-dimensional affine space, which makes efficient computations possible. As an example, we discuss the mechanical system of a "barbell" in a central force field.

Abstract:There are well-known analogs of the prime number theorem and Mertens' theorem for dynamical systems with hyperbolic behaviour. Here we consider the same question for the simplest non-hyperbolic algebraic systems. The asymptotic behaviour of the orbit-counting function is governed by a rotation on an associated compact group, and in simple examples we exhibit uncountably many different asymptotic growth rates for the orbit-counting function. Mertens' Theorem also holds in this setting, with an explicit rational leading coefficient obtained from arithmetic properties of the non-hyperbolic eigendirections.

Abstract:In the paper the foundation of the $k$-orbit theory is developed. The theory opens a new simple way to the investigation of groups and multidimensional symmetries. The relations between combinatorial symmetry properties of a $k$-orbit and its automorphism group are found. It is found the local property of a $k$-orbit. The difference between 2-closed group and $m$-closed group for $m>2$ is discovered. It is explained the specific property of Petersen graph automorphism group $n$-orbit. It is shown that any non-trivial primitive group contains a transitive imprimitive subgroup and as a result it is proved that the automorphism group of a vertex transitive graph (2-closed group) contains a regular element (polycirculant conjecture). Using methods of the $k$-orbit theory, it is considered different possibilities of permutation representation of a finite group and shown that the most informative, relative to describing of the structure of a finite group, is the permutation representation of the lowest degree. Using this representation it is obtained a simple proof of the W. Feit, J.G. Thompson theorem: Solvability of groups of odd order. It is described the enough simple structure of lowest degree representation of finite groups and found a way to constructing of the simple full invariant of a finite group. To the end, using methods of $k$-orbit theory, it is obtained one of possible polynomial solutions of the graph isomorphism problem.

Abstract:In these lectures we review two approaches to constructing particle actions from coset spaces of symmetry groups: non-linear realisations and coadjoint orbits. At the level of particle actions, we observe that they coincide. We also provide an introduction to symplectic geometry and we sketch the theory of coadjoint orbits for the Poincaré group.

Constructively describing orbit spaces of finite groups by few inequalities

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite group acting linearly on $\mathbb{R}^n$. A celebrated Theorem of Procesi and Schwarz gives an explicit description of the orbit space $\mathbb{R}^n /\!/G$ as a basic closed semi-algebraic set. We give a new proof of this statement and another description as a basic closed semi-algebraic set using elementary tools from real algebraic geometry. Bröcker was able to show that the number of inequalities needed to describe the orbit space generically depends only on the group $G$. Here, we construct such inequalities explicitly for abelian groups and in the case where only one inequality is needed. Furthermore, we answer an open question raised by Bröcker concerning the genericity of his result.

Abstract:In the nonlinear symmetries of quantum systems, explicit expressions were obtained for the indecomposable representation of the nonlinear angular momentum algebra I Ω on the space of its universal enveloping algebra and for two induced representations on the corresponding quotient spaces using Poincare Birkhoff Witt theory. These expressions were used to derive the inhomogeneous single , double and triple Boson realizations of I Ω. These results can be used to study nonlinear symmetries in quantum systems and the basic physical properties of these systems.
The Method of Formal Series: Applications to Nonlinear Beam Dynamics and Invariants of Motion

Abstract:A novel technique to determine invariant curves in nonlinear beam dynamics based on the method of formal series has been developed. It is first shown how the solution of the Hamilton equations of motion describing nonlinear betatron oscillations in the presence of a single sextupole can be represented in a nonperturbative form. Further, the solution of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation is obtained in a closed symbolic form as a ratio of two series in the perturbation parameter (and the nonlinear action invariant), rather than a conventional power series according to canonical perturbation theory. It is well behaved even for large values of the perturbation parameter close to strong structural resonances. The relationship between existing invariant curves and the so-called scattering orbits in classical scattering theory has been revealed.
