Abstract:Permutation polynomials over finite fields constitute an active research area and have applications in many areas of science and engineering. In this paper, four classes of monomial complete permutation polynomials and one class of trinomial complete permutation polynomials are presented, one of which confirms a conjecture proposed by Wu et al. (Sci China Math 58:2081–2094, 2015 ). Furthermore, we give two classes of permutation trinomial, and make some progress on a conjecture about the differential uniformity of power permutation polynomials proposed by Blondeau et al. (Int J Inf Coding Theory 1:149–170, 2010 ).
Trinomial Planar Functions on Cubic and Quartic Extensions of Finite Fields

Abstract:Planar functions, introduced by Dembowski and Ostrom, are functions from a finite field to itself that give rise to finite projective planes. They exist, however, only for finite fields of odd characteristics. They have attracted much attention in the last decade thanks to their interest in theory and those deep and various applications in many fields. This paper focuses on planar trinomials over cubic and quartic extensions of finite fields. Our achievements are obtained using connections with quadratic forms and classical algebraic tools over finite fields. Furthermore, given the generality of our approach, the methodology presented could be employed to drive more planar functions on some finite extension fields.

Abstract:We exhibit an explicit formula for the cardinality of solutions to a class of quadratic matrix equations over finite fields. We prove that the orbits of these solutions under the natural conjugation action of the general linear groups can be separated by classical conjugation invariants defined by characteristic polynomials. We also find a generating set for the vanishing ideal of these orbits.

Exponential sums over singular binary quartic forms and applications

Abstract:We investigate exponential sums over singular binary quartic forms, proving an explicit formula for the finite field Fourier transform of this set. Our formula shares much in common with analogous formulas proved previously for other vector spaces, but also exhibits a striking new feature: the point counting function $a_p(E) = p + 1 - \#E(\mathbb{F}_p)$ associated to an associated elliptic curve makes a prominent appearance. The proof techniques are also new, involving techniques from elementary algebraic geometry and classical invariant theory. As an application to prime number theory, we demonstrate the existence of `many' 2-Selmer elements for elliptic curves with discriminants that are squarefree and have at most four prime factors.

Abstract:In this paper, we study arithmetic properties of certain determinants involving powers of $i^2+cij+dj^2$, where $c$ and $d$ are integers. For example, for any odd integer $n>1$ with $(\frac dn)=-1$ we prove that $\det [ (\frac{i^2+cij+dj^2}{n})]_{0\le i,j\le n-1}$ is divisible by $\varphi(n)^2$, where $(\frac{\cdot}{n})$ is the Jacobi symbol and $\varphi$ is Euler's totient function. This confirms a previous conjecture of the second author.

Abstract:Let f and g be two distinct normalized primitive Hecke cusp forms of even integral weights and for the full modular group , respectively. Denote by and the n th normalized coefficients of the automorphic L -functions and , respectively. In this paper, we are interested in the average behavior of the coefficients and on a primitive integral binary quadratic form with negative discriminant whose class number is 1, and we also provide the asymptotic formulae of these summatory functions. As an application, we also consider the number of sign changes of the sequences and on the same binary quadratic form in short intervals.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a real quadratic number field with discriminant $D$ and $\mathcal{O}_F$ the ring of integers in $F$. Let $\chi_F$ be the Dirichlet character associated to $F/\mathbb{Q}$. Write $L(\chi_F,s)$ for the Dirichlet L-function of $\chi_F$. By an induction argument for imprimitive Dirichlet L-values, we get several $2$-divisibility results on $L(\chi_F,-1)$ when $D$ has arbitrarily finitely many prime divisors. As an application, by making use of the Birch-Tate formula for $F$, we determine the $2$-primary part for the second $K$ group $K_2\mathcal{O}_F$. We also give a new proof for an old theorem of Browkin and Schinzel.

Abstract:In this article, the standard correspondence between the ideal class group of a quadratic number field and the equivalence classes of binary quadratic forms of given discriminant is generalized to any base number field of narrow class number one. The article contains an explicit description of the correspondence. In the case of totally negative discriminants, equivalent conditions are given for a binary quadratic form to be totally positive definite.

Abstract:Lehmer constructs four classes of matrices constructed from roots of unity for which the characteristic polynomials and the $k$-th powers can be determined explicitly. Here we study a class of matrices which arise naturally in transformation formulas of finite field hypergeometric functions and whose entries are roots of unity and zeroes. We determine the characteristic polynomial, eigenvalues, eigenvectors, and $k$-th powers of these matrices. In particular, the eigenvalues are natural systems of products of Jacobi sums.

Abstract:A number field $k$ admits a binary integral quadratic form which represents all integers locally but not globally if and only if the class number of $k$ is bigger than one. In this case, there are only finitely many classes of such binary integral quadratic forms over $k$. A number field $k$ admits a ternary integral quadratic form which represents all integers locally but not globally if and only if the class number of $k$ is even. In this case, there are infinitely many classes of such ternary integral quadratic forms over $k$. An integral quadratic form over a number field $k$ with more than one variables represents all integers of $k$ over the ring of integers of a finite extension of $k$ if and only if this quadratic form represents $1$ over the ring of integers of a finite extension of $k$.

Abstract:We study an asymptotic formula for counting integral points over an equation defined by a non-degenerated indefinite integral ternary quadratic form $f$ representing a non-zero integer $a$ such that $-a\cdot det(f)$ is square over a number field. In particular, we prove that the finite part of this asymptotic formula is given by the product of local density times $1-p^{-1}$ over all finite primes $p$ over $\Bbb Z$.
