Abstract:Cactus doodles are combinatorial/geometric objects that are related to cactus groups in the same way as knots are related to braids. We define them in terms of local moves on plane curves, show that they can be obtained from elements of the cactus group by a "closing" procedure and establish some of their basic properties.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is to introduce and study a new type of knot - like objects - cactus doodles. The relationship between these objects and cactus groups is similar to the relationship between knots and braids. Specifically, the concept of cactus doodles is defined in the paper. They are described by local transformations of curves on the plane, and it is shown how cactus doodles can be obtained from elements of cactus groups through a "closing" process. In addition, the paper also establishes some basic properties of cactus doodles, such as that every cactus doodle can be obtained by closing an element of the cactus group, and that any two equivalent and non - reducible cactus doodles can be transformed into each other through a series of transformations that keep the number of intersections unchanged and possible mirror reflections. These studies not only enrich the theoretical framework in combinatorial geometry and topology, but also provide a basis for further exploring the properties and applications of cactus doodles. For example, the paper discusses the problem of the exact description of the closing mapping of cactus doodles, the existence of an analogue of the fundamental group constructed by Khovanov for doodles, and the possibility of other invariants such as Polyak - Viro - type invariants or polynomial - type invariants. The raising of these questions points the way for future research.
