Abstract:New analytical expressions are found for the Levi-Civita symbol using the Kronecker delta symbol. The expressions are derived up to 3 dimensions, extended to higher dimensions, and confirmed in Matlab for 5 dimensions. The expressions can be re-cast in terms of elementary and/or special functions, which lead to the conclusion that the Levi-Civita Symbol can be treated as a generalized, discrete function

Abstract:We explicitly derive the Christoffel symbols in terms of adapted frame fields for the Levi-Civita connection of a Lorentzian $n$-manifold $(M, g)$, equipped with a prescribed optical geometry of Kähler-Sasaki type. The formulas found in this paper have several important applications, such as determining the geometric invariants of Lorentzian manifolds with prescribed optical geometries or solving curvature constraints.

Abstract:Recently, folk questions on the smoothability of Cauchy hypersurfaces and time functions of a globally hyperbolic spacetime M, have been solved. Here we give further results, applicable to several problems: (1) Any compact spacelike acausal submanifold H with boundary can be extended to a spacelike Cauchy hypersurface S. If H were only achronal, counterexamples to the smooth extension exist, but a continuous extension (in fact, valid for any compact achronal subset K) is still possible. (2) Given any spacelike Cauchy hypersurface S, a Cauchy temporal function T (i.e., a smooth function with past-directed timelike gradient everywhere, and Cauchy hypersurfaces as levels) with S equal to one of the levels, is constructed -thus, the spacetime splits orthogonally as $R \times S$ in a canonical way. Even more, accurate versions of this result are obtained if the Cauchy hypersurface S were non-spacelike (including non-smooth, or achronal but non-acausal).

Abstract:In this work we derive a functional equation in terms of the Hurwitz-Lerch zeta function along with definite integrals in terms of the incomplete gamma and Hurwitz-Lerch zeta functions. The method used in these derivations is contour integration. Special cases in terms of fundamental constants are produced.

Abstract:We prove the uniqueness of a translation invariant extension to non integer order classical symbols of the ordinary discrete sum on $L^1$-symbols, which we then describe using an Hadamard finite part procedure for sums over integer points of infinite unions of nested convex polytopes in $\R^d$. This canonical regularised sum is the building block to construct meromorphic extensions of the ordinary sum on holomorphic symbols. Explicit formulae for the complex residues at their poles are given in terms of noncommutative residues of classical symbols, thus extending results of Guillemin, Sternberg and Weitsman. These formulae are then applied to zeta functions associated with quadratic forms and with Laplacians on tori.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive series representations for all non-principal branches of the Lambert W function that hold across the entire complex cut plane, complementing the already known representation for the principal branch. By definition of this function, these formulas allow for the evaluation of all solutions z of the equation zez=a, given a∈C∖(−∞,0]. Additionally, we provide two new representations of the Taylor series for these branches, as well as a combinatorial formula for Bell polynomials.

Abstract:Third order tensors have wide applications in mechanics, physics and engineering. The most famous and useful third order tensor is the piezoelectric tensor, which plays a key role in the piezoelectric effect, first discovered by Curie brothers. On the other hand, the Levi-Civita tensor is famous in tensor calculus. In this paper, we study third order tensors and (third order) hypermatrices systematically, by regarding a third order tensor as a linear operator which transforms a second order tensor into a first order tensor, or a first order tensor into a second order tensor. For a third order tensor, we define its transpose, kernel tensor and L-eigenvalues. Here, "L" is named after Levi-Civita. The transpose of a third order tensor is uniquely defined. In particular, the transpose of the piezoelectric tensor is the inverse piezoelectric tensor (the electrostriction tensor). The kernel tensor of a third order tensor is a second order positive semi-definite symmetric tensor, which is the product of that third order tensor and its transpose. We define L-eigenvalues, singular values, C-eigenvalues and Z-eigenvalues for a third order tensor. They are all invariants of that third order tensor. For a third order partially symmetric tensor, we give its eigenvector decomposition. The piezoelectric tensor, the inverse piezoelectric tensor, and third order symmetric tensors are third order partially symmetric tensors. We make a conjecture a third order symmetric tensor has seven independent invariants. We raise the questions on how may independent invariants a third order tensor, a third order partially symmetric tensor and a third order cyclically symmetric tensor may have respectively.

These are natural generalizations of the well known classical Selberg zeta function and L -function for Fuchsian groups, corresponding to the case . We show that these complex functions have meromorphic extensions to the entire complex plane .

Abstract:We demonstrate that the Cartan-Thullen theorem and its generalisation to the context of generalised convexity, which we establish herein, can be regarded as a consequence of the classical theorems of functional analysis. Furthermore, we characterise the domains of holomorphy, and their generalisations, as the spaces that are complete, or as the spaces exhaustible by suitably defined polytopes. We also provide an analogue of the Levi problem and its elementary solution. Our result allows for a novel characterisation of Stein spaces.

Abstract:We first prove that the Legendre transform is the only continuous and $\mathrm{SL}(n)$ contravariant valuation that behaves as a conjugation of two important translations on super-coercive, lower semi-continuous, and convex functions. Then we turn to a similar setting on log-concave functions and find characterizations of not merely the duality transform but also the Laplace transform on log-concave functions. With the notion of dual valuation, we also obtain characterizations of the identity transform on finite convex functions and positive log-concave functions.

Abstract:Using the Levi-Civita connection on the noncommutative differential one-forms of a spectral triple $(\B,\H,\D)$, we define the full Riemann curvature tensor, the Ricci curvature tensor and scalar curvature. We give a definition of Dirac spectral triples and derive a general Weitzenbock formula for them. We apply these tools to $\theta$-deformations of compact Riemannian manifolds. We show that the Riemann and Ricci tensors transform naturally under $\theta$-deformation, whereas the connection Laplacian, Clifford representation of the curvature and the scalar curvature are all invariant under deformation.

Abstract:This is the first part of our work on Zariski decomposition structures, where we study Zariski decompositions using Legendre–Fenchel type transforms. In this way we define a Zariski decomposition for curve classes. This decomposition enables us to develop the theory of the volume function for curves defined by the second named author, yielding some fundamental positivity results for curve classes. For varieties with special structures, the Zariski decomposition for curve classes admits an interesting geometric interpretation.

Abstract:We give explicit expressions (or at least an algorithm of obtaining such expressions) of the coefficients of the Laurent series expansions of the Euler-Zagier multiple zeta-functions at any integer points. The main tools are the Mellin-Barnes integral formula and the harmonic product formulas. The Mellin-Barnes integral formula is used in the induction process on the number of variables, and the harmonic product formula is used to show that the Laurent series expansion outside the domain of convergence can be obtained from that inside the domain of convergence.

Positivity Functions for Curves on Algebraic Varieties

Abstract:This is the second part of our work on Zariski decomposition structures, where we compare two different volume type functions for curve classes. The first function is the polar transform of the volume for ample divisor classes. The second function captures the asymptotic geometry of curves analogously to the volume function for divisors. We prove that the two functions coincide, generalizing Zariski's classical result for surfaces to all varieties. Our result confirms the log concavity conjecture of the first named author for weighted mobility of curve classes in an unexpected way, via Legendre-Fenchel type transforms. We also give a number of applications to birational geometry, including a refined structure theorem for the movable cone of curves.

Abstract:In signal analysis and processing, the Z transform plays the same-important role in the discrete signal system as that of the Laplace transform in a continuous signal system. Abstract:We consider a family of Levi-degenerate finite type hypersurfaces in $\mathbb C^2$, where in general there is no group structure. We lift these domains to stratified Lie groups via a constructive proof, which optimizes the well-known lifting procedure to free Lie groups of general manifolds defined by Rothschild and Stein. This yields an explicit version of the Taylor expansion with respect to the horizontal vector fields induced by the sub-Riemannian structure on these hypersurfaces. Hence, as an application, we establish the Schatten class estimates for the commutator of the Cauchy--Szegö projection with respect to a suitable quasi-metric defined on the hypersurface.
