Abstract:We prove power-saving bounds for general Kloosterman sums on $\operatorname{Sp}(4)$ associated to all Weyl elements via a stratification argument coupled with $p$-adic stationary phase methods. We relate these Kloosterman sums to the Fourier coefficients of $\operatorname{Sp}(4)$ Poincaré series.

Abstract:A theory of Poincaré series is developed for Lobachevsky space of arbitrary dimension. For a general non-uniform lattice a Selberg-Kloosterman zeta function is introduced. It has meromorphic continuation to the plane with poles at the corresponding automorphic spectrum. When the lattice is a unit group of a rational quadratic form, the Selberg-Kloosterman zeta function is computed explicitly in terms of exponential sums. In this way a non-trivial Ramanujan-like bound analogous to “Selberg’s 3/16 bound” is proved in general.

Abstract:We study Kloosterman sums on the orthogonal groups $SO_{3,3}$ and $SO_{4,2}$, associated to short elements of their respective Weyl groups. An explicit description for these sums is obtained in terms of multi-dimensional exponential sums. These are bounded by a combination of methods from algebraic geometry and $p$-adic analysis.

Abstract:We compute explicit formulae for the constant terms and Fourier coefficients for Eisenstein series on $\operatorname{Sp}(4,\mathbb{R})$, in terms of zeta functions and Whittaker functions. We also develop a generalisation of Ramanujan sums to $\operatorname{Sp}(4,\mathbb{Z})$, which appears as coefficients in the Fourier expansion for the minimal Eisenstein series.

Abstract:For every genuine irreducible admissible smooth representation $\pi$ of the metaplectic group $\widetilde{{\rm Sp}}(2n)$ over a $p$-adic field, and every smooth oscillator representation $\omega_\psi$ of $\widetilde{{\rm Sp}}(2n)$, we prove that the tensor product $\pi\otimes\omega_\psi$ is multiplicity free as a smooth representation of the symplectic group ${\rm Sp}(2n)$. Similar results are proved for general linear groups and unitary groups.
Bounds for Kloosterman sums on GL(n)

Abstract:This paper establishes power-saving bounds for Kloosterman sums associated with the long Weyl element for GL(n), as well as for another type of Weyl element of order 2. These bounds are obtained by establishing an explicit representation as exponential sums. As an application we go beyond Sarnak's density conjecture for the principal congruence subgroup of prime level. We also bound all Kloosterman sums for GL(4).

Abstract:In this article, we prove an asymptotic formula for the fourth power mean of a general $s$-dimensional hyper-Kloosterman sum. We find the number of solutions of certain congruence equations mod $p$ which play an integral part to prove our main result. We use estimates for character sums and analytic methods to prove our theorem.

Abstract:Grothendieck polynomials, introduced by Lascoux and Schützenberger, are certain $K$-theory representatives for Schubert varieties. Symplectic Grothendieck polynomials, described more recently by Wyser and Yong, represent the $K$-theory classes of orbit closures for the complex symplectic group acting on the complete flag variety. We prove a transition formula for symplectic Grothendieck polynomials and study their stable limits. We show that each of the $K$-theoretic Schur $P$-functions of Ikeda and Naruse arises from a limiting procedure applied to symplectic Grothendieck polynomials representing certain "Grassmannian" orbit closures.

Schubert Eisenstein series and Poisson summation for Schubert varieties

Abstract:The first author and Bump defined Schubert Eisenstein series by restricting the summation in a degenerate Eisenstein series to a particular Schubert variety. In the case of $\mathrm{GL}_3$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ they proved that these Schubert Eisenstein series have meromorphic continuations in all parameters and conjectured the same is true in general. We revisit their conjecture and relate it to the program of Braverman, Kazhdan, Lafforgue, Ngô, and Sakellaridis aimed at establishing generalizations of the Poisson summation formula. We prove the Poisson summation formula for certain schemes closely related to Schubert varieties and use it to refine and establish the conjecture of the first author and Bump in many cases.

Abstract:We construct and study the holomorphic discrete series representation and the principal series representation of the symplectic group $\mathrm{Sp}(2n,F)$ over a $p$-adic field $F$ as well as a duality between some sub-representations of these two representations. The constructions of these two representations generalize those defined in Morita and Murase's works. Moreover, Morita built a duality for $\mathrm{SL}(2, F)$ defined by residues. We view the duality we defined as an algebraic interpretation of Morita's duality in some extent and its generalization to the symplectic groups.

Abstract:Borel-Serre proved that the integral symplectic group $\operatorname{Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb{Z})$ is a virtual duality group of dimension $n^2$ and that the symplectic Steinberg module $\operatorname{St}^\omega_n(\mathbb{Q})$ is its dualising module. This module is the top-dimensional homology of the Tits building associated to $\operatorname{Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb{Q})$. We find a presentation of this Steinberg module and use it to show that the codimension-1 rational cohomology of $\operatorname{Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb{Z})$ vanishes for $n \geq 2$, $H^{n^2 -1}(\operatorname{Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb{Z});\mathbb{Q}) \cong 0$. Equivalently, the rational cohomology of the moduli stack $\mathcal{A}_n$ of principally polarised abelian varieties of dimension $2n$ vanishes in the same degree. Our findings suggest a vanishing pattern for high-dimensional cohomology in degree $n^2-i$, similar to the one conjectured by Church-Farb-Putman for special linear groups.

Abstract:We study Hilbert Poincaré series associated to general seed functions and construct Cohen's kernels and double Eisenstein series as series of Hilbert Poincaré series. Then we calculate the Rankin-Cohen brackets of Hilbert Poincaré series and Hilbert modular forms and extend Zagier's kernel formula to totally real number fields. Finally, we show that the Rankin-Cohen brackets of two different types of Eisenstein series are special values of double Eisenstein series up to a constant.

Abstract:Using Poincaré series of $ K $-finite matrix coefficients of integrable antiholomorphic discrete series representations of $ \mathrm{Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb R) $, we construct a spanning set for the space $ S_\rho(\Gamma) $ of Siegel cusp forms of weight $ \rho $ for $ \Gamma $, where $ \rho $ is an irreducible polynomial representation of $ \mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbb C) $ of highest weight $ \omega\in\mathbb Z^n $ with $ \omega_1\geq\ldots\geq\omega_n>2n $, and $ \Gamma $ is a discrete subgroup of $ \mathrm{Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb R) $ commensurable with $ \mathrm{Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb Z) $. Moreover, using a variant of Muić's integral non-vanishing criterion for Poincaré series on unimodular locally compact Hausdorff groups, we prove a result on the non-vanishing of constructed Siegel Poincaré series.

Abstract:We prove the conjectures on the ($L^{\infty}$)-sizes of the spaces of Siegel cusp forms of degree $n$, weight $k$, for any congruence subgroup in the weight aspect as well as for all principal congruence subgroups in the level aspect, in particular. This size is measured by the size of the Bergman kernel of the space. More precisely we show that the aforementioned size is $\asymp_{n} k^{3n(n+1)/4}$. Our method uses the Fourier expansion of the Bergman kernel, and has wide applicability. We illustrate this by a simple algorithm. We also include some of the applications of our method, including individual sup-norms of small weights and non-vanishing of Poincaré series.

Abstract:The discrete group generated by reflections of the sphere, or Euclidean space, or hyperbolic space are said to be Coxeter groups of, respectively, spherical, or Euclidean, or hyperbolic type. The hyperbolic Coxeter groups are said to be (quasi-)Lann\'er if the tiles covering the space are of finite volume and all (resp. some of them) are compact. For any Coxeter group stratified by the length of its elements, the Poincar\'e series (a.k.a. growth function) is the generating function of the cardinalities of sets of elements of equal length. Solomon established that, for ANY Coxeter group, its Poincar\'e series is a rational function with zeros somewhere on the unit circle centered at the origin, and gave a recurrence formula. The explicit expression of the Poincar\'e series was known for the spherical and Euclidean Coxeter groups, and 3-generated Coxeter groups, and (with mistakes) Lann\'er groups. Here we give a lucid description of the numerator of the Poincar\'e series of any Coxeter group, and denominators for each (quasi-)Lann\'er group, and review the scene. We give an interpretation of some coefficients of the denominator of the Poincar\'e series. The non-real poles behave as in Enestr\"om's theorem (lie in a narrow annulus) though the coefficients of the denominators do not satisfy theorem's requirements.
Almost Hermitian structures on moduli spaces of non-Abelian monopoles and applications to the topology of symplectic four-manifolds

Abstract:This work is a sequel to our previous monograph <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2010.15789" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2010.15789">arXiv:2010.15789</a> (to appear in AMS Memoirs), where we initiated our program to prove that the Bogomolov-Miyaoka-Yau inequality holds for closed, symplectic four-manifolds and, more generally, for closed, smooth four-manifolds with a Seiberg-Witten basic class. This inequality was first proved for compact, complex surfaces of general type by Miyaoka (1977) and Yau (1978). Our approach uses a version of Morse theory for a natural Hamiltonian, the square of the $L^2$ norm of the coupled spinors, for the circle action on the moduli space of non-Abelian monopoles over a closed four-manifold. It has the aim of proving the existence of a projectively anti-self-dual connection on a rank-two Hermitian vector bundle over a blow-up of the four-manifold, where the first Pontrjagin number of the vector bundle is negative and greater than or equal to minus the Euler characteristic of the blown-up four-manifold. Our Morse theory argument relies on positivity of virtual Morse-Bott indices for critical points of Hamiltonians for circle actions on complex analytic spaces (or real analytic spaces that, locally, are sufficiently well-approximated by complex analytic model spaces), as developed by the first author in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2206.14710" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2206.14710">arXiv:2206.14710</a>. In our application to the moduli space of non-Abelian monopoles, the critical points are fixed points of the circle action and thus represented by Seiberg-Witten monopoles.

Abstract:We prove a theorem that allows one to count solutions to determinant equations twisted by a periodic weight with high uniformity in the modulus. It is obtained by using spectral methods of $\operatorname{SL}_2(\mathbb{R})$ automorphic forms to study Poincaré series over congruence subgroups. By keeping track of interactions between multiple orbits we get advantages over the widely used sums of Kloosterman sums techniques. We showcase this with applications to correlations of the divisor functions twisted by periodic functions and the fourth moment of Dirichlet $L$-functions on the critical line.

Abstract:We prove that the Newton polygons of Frobenius on the crystalline cohomology of proper smooth varieties satisfy a symmetry that results, in the case of projective smooth varieties, from Poincaré duality and the hard Lefschetz theorem. As a corollary, we deduce that the Betti numbers in odd degrees of any proper smooth variety over a field are even (a consequence of Hodge symmetry in characteristic zero), answering an old question of Serre. Then we give a generalization and a refinement for arbitrary varieties over finite fields, in response to later questions of Serre and of Katz.
