Abstract:Poly-Bernoulli numbers are one of generalizations of the classical Bernoulli numbers. Since a negative index poly-Bernoulli number is an integer, it is an interesting problem to study this number from combinatorial viewpoint. In this short article, we give a new combinatorial relation between symmetrized poly-Bernoulli numbers and the Dumont-Foata polynomials.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the study of the combinatorial relationship between Symmetrized Poly - Bernoulli Numbers and Dumont - Foata Polynomials. Specifically, the author Toshiaki Matsusaka focuses on the properties of the special values of the Poly - Bernoulli numbers \(B_m^{(\ell)}(k)\) at integers \(k\in\mathbb{Z}\) when the exponent \(\ell\) is a non - positive integer, especially the fact that these values are always integers. This research direction stems from previous works, such as the research of Bényi and Hajnal, who established the connection between Poly - Bernoulli numbers and combinatorial objects, such as the number of 01 - isolated and matrices. The main contribution of the paper is to provide a new combinatorial perspective by introducing Dumont - Foata Polynomials to explain the special values of Poly - Bernoulli numbers at integer points. Specifically, the paper proves that for any non - negative integers \(n,k\geq0\), the following equality holds: \[ \sum_{\ell = 0}^{n}(- 1)^{\ell}B_{n-\ell}^{(-\ell)}(k)=k!\cdot(-1)^{n/2}G_n(1,1,k) \] where \(G_n(x,y,z)\) is the \(n\)-th Dumont - Foata polynomial, and \(B_m^{(\ell)}(k)\) is the symmetrized Poly - Bernoulli number defined on the integer \(k\). In particular, when \(n\) is odd, both sides of the equation are equal to zero. This result not only recovers the results previously obtained by Arakawa - Kaneko et al., but also provides new tools and methods for understanding the combinatorial meaning of Poly - Bernoulli numbers. In addition, the paper also explores possible further extensions of these results, such as considering the sequence A136127 in OEIS, which indicates the potential application value of this research in the field of combinatorics.
