Abstract:We prove the following result. If $f$ is a harmonic quasiconformal mapping between two Jordan domains $D$ and $\Omega$ having $\mathscr{C}^1$ boundaries, then the function $f$ is globally Hölder continuous for every $\alpha<1$ but it is not Lipschitz in general. This extends and improves a classical theorem of S. Warschawski for conformal mappings.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is about the global H\"older continuity of harmonic quasiconformal mappings between Jordan domains with \(C^1\) -smooth boundaries. Specifically, the author proves that if \(f\) is a harmonic quasiconformal mapping between two Jordan domains \(D\) and \(\Omega\) with \(C^1\) boundaries, then the function \(f\) is globally H\"older continuous for any \(\alpha < 1\), but it is not necessarily Lipschitz continuous in general. This result extends and improves the classical theorem of S. Warschawski on conformal mappings.
### Main contributions of the paper
1. **Global H\"older continuity**: It is proved that harmonic quasiconformal mappings are globally H\"older continuous between Jordan domains with \(C^1\) -smooth boundaries.
2. **Non - Lipschitz continuity**: It is pointed out that these mappings are not necessarily Lipschitz continuous in general.
3. **Generalizing classical results**: The classical theorem of S. Warschawski is extended to be applicable to a wider range of harmonic quasiconformal mappings.
### Background of the paper
- **Harmonic mappings**: A harmonic mapping refers to a mapping that satisfies the Laplace equation \(\Delta f = 0\).
- **Quasiconformal mappings**: A quasiconformal mapping is a mapping that keeps the angle change finite, and its Jacobian matrix satisfies certain conditions.
- **H\"older continuity**: A function \(f\) is said to be H\"older continuous if \(|f(z)-f(w)|\leq M|z - w|^{\alpha}\), where \(M\) is a constant and \(\alpha\in(0, 1]\).
- **Lipschitz continuity**: If \(\alpha = 1\), then H\"older continuity degenerates into Lipschitz continuity.
### Main theorem
Let \(D\) and \(\Omega\) be Jordan domains with \(C^1\) boundaries, and assume that \(a\in D\) and \(b\in\Omega\). Assume that \(\omega_D\) and \(\omega_\Omega\) are the continuous moduli of the derivatives of the arc - length parameterizations of \(\partial D\) and \(\partial\Omega\) respectively. Assume that \(\partial D\) and \(\partial\Omega\) satisfy the \(B\)-arc - chord condition. Then for any \(\alpha\in(0, 1)\) and \(k\in[0, 1)\), there exists a constant \(M_{\alpha}=M_{\alpha}(a, b, k, B, \omega_D, \omega_\Omega)\) such that every \(K = \frac{1 + k}{1 - k}\)-quasiconformal harmonic mapping \(f = g+\overline{h}\) from \(D\) to \(\Omega\) with \(f(a)=b\) satisfies the condition:
\[|f(z)-f(w)|\leq M_{\alpha}|z - w|^{\alpha}, \quad z, w\in D.\]
Furthermore, for any \(p > 0\), there exists a constant \(B_p\), depending on the same parameters as \(M_{\alpha}\), such that:
\[\int_D|Df(z)|^p\,d\lambda(z)\leq B_p^p,\]
where \(|Df(z)|=|f_z|+|f_{\overline{z}}|=|g'|+|h'|\). In other words, \(g'\) and \(h'\) belong to the Bergman space \(A_p\) for any \(p > 0\).
