Abstract:In this work, we consider degenerations between 8-dimensional 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras over $\mathbb{C}$ and obtain the geometric classification of the variety $\mathcal{N}^2_8$.

Abstract:We determine the complete degeneration picture inside the variety of nilpotent associative algebras of dimension 3 over an algebraically closed field of characteristic not equal to 2. Comparing with the discussion in [Ivanova N.M. and Pallikaros C.A., Degenerations of complex associative algebras of dimension three via Lie and Jordan algebras, {\it Advances in Group Theory and Applications}, 18 (2024), 41-79], for some of the arguments in the present article we needed to develop alternative techniques which are now valid over an arbitrary algebraically closed field. There is a dichotomy of cases concerning the results obtained, corresponding to whether the characteristic of the field is 2 or not.

Abstract:Working over an arbitrary field of characteristic different from $2$, we extend the Skjelbred-Sund method to compatible Lie algebras and give a full classification of nilpotent compatible Lie algebras up to dimension $4$. In case the base field is cubically closed, we find that there are three isomorphism classes and a one-parameter family in dimension $3$, and $10$ isomorphism classes, $7$ one-parameter families and two $2$-parameter families in dimension $4$

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to investigate the algebraic structure that appears on $|3|-$gradings $\mathfrak{n}=\mathfrak{n}_{-3}\oplus \cdots \oplus \mathfrak{n}_3$ of a complex simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{n}$. In particular, we completely determine the possible reductive algebras $\mathfrak{n}_0$ and prove that the only free nilpotent Lie algebra of step 3 that appears as the negative part $\mathfrak{n}_{-3}\oplus\mathfrak{n}_{-2}\oplus\mathfrak{n}_{-1}$ of a grading is the usual $|3|-$grading of the exceptional Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}_2$.

Abstract:We classify nilpotent Lie algebras with complex structures of weakly non-nilpotent type in real dimension eight, which is the lowest dimension where they arise. Our study, together with previous results on strongly non-nilpotent structures, completes the classification of 8-dimensional nilpotent Lie algebras admitting complex structures of non-nilpotent type. As an application, we identify those that support a pseudo-Kähler metric, thus providing new counterexamples to a previous conjecture and an infinite family of (Ricci-flat) non-flat neutral Calabi-Yau structures. Moreover, we arrive at the topological restriction $b_1(X)\geq 3$ for every pseudo-Kähler nilmanifold $X$ with invariant complex structure, up to complex dimension four.

Abstract:In this paper, the $C^*$-algebra of the seven-dimensional un-decomposable nilpotent Lie group is characterized explicitly for the first time(see \cite{chin}). Furthermore, the topology of its spectrum is described as a preparation for the analysis of its $C^*$-algebra. Then, the operator-valued Fourier transform is employed to translate the given C*-algebra into the algebra of bounded operator fields through its spectrum. We find the conditions satisfied by the image of the goal to characterize them by these conditions, namely the "norm controlled dual limit" (NCDL)-conditions (see \cite{Lud-Reg}). The methods used for the nilpotent Lie groups are different for each. We consider the co-adjoint orbits and for our case, we use the Kirillov theory.

Abstract:We classify the nilpotent almost abelian Lie algebras admitting complex or symplectic structures. It turns out that if a nilpotent almost abelian Lie algebra admits a complex structure, then it necessarily admits a symplectic structure. Given an even dimensional almost abelian Lie algebra, we show that it always admits a complex structure when it is 2-step nilpotent and it always admits a symplectic structure when it is $k$-step nilpotent for $k=2, \, 3$ or $4$. Several consequences of the classification theorems are obtained.

Abstract:In this paper we study the isotopism classes of two-step nilpotent algebras. We show that every nilpotent Leibniz algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ with $\operatorname{dim}[\mathfrak{g},\mathfrak{g}]=1$ is isotopic to the Heisenberg Lie algebra or to the Heisenberg algebra $\mathfrak{l}_{2n+1}^{J_1}$, where $J_1$ is the $n \times n$ Jordan block of eigenvalue 1. We also prove that two such algebras are isotopic if and only if the Lie racks integrating them are isotopic. This gives the classification of Lie racks whose tangent space at the unit element is a nilpotent Leibniz algebra with one-dimensional commutator ideal. Eventually, we introduce new isotopism invariants for Leibniz algebras and Lie racks.

Abstract:In this paper and its sequel we continue our study of nilpotent symplectic alternating algebras. In particular we give a full classification of such algebras of dimension $10$ over any field. It is known that symplectic alternating algebras over $\mbox{GF}(3)$ correspond to a special rich class $\mathcal{C}$ of $2$-Engel $3$-groups of exponent $27$ and under this correspondence we will see that the nilpotent algebras correspond to a subclass of $\mathcal{C}$ that are those groups in $\mathcal{C}$ that have an extra group theoretical property that we refer to as being powerfully nilpotent and can be described also in the context of $p$-groups where $p$ is an arbitrary prime.

Abstract:We construct 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras using labeled directed simple graphs and give a criterion to detect certain ideals and subalgebras by finding special subgraphs. We prove that if a label occurs only once, then reversing its orientation leads to an isomorphic algebra. As a consequence, if every edge is labeled differently, the Lie algebra depends only on the underlying undirected graph. In addition, we construct the graphs of all 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras of dimension ≤6 and compute the algebra of strata preserving derivations of the Lie algebra associated with the complete bipartite graph Km,n with two different labelings.

Abstract:The degenerations of Poisson-type algebras are studied in the following varieties in dimension two: Leibniz--Poisson algebras, transposed Leibniz--Poisson algebras, Novikov--Poisson algebras, commutative pre-Lie algebras, anti-pre-Lie Poisson algebras and pre-Poisson algebras. For these varieties, the algebraic and geometric classifications are given. Also, the complete graph of degenerations is obtained, together with the description of the orbit closures of each of its algebras and parametric families up to isomorphism.

We then give a classification of all nilpotent symplectic alternating algebras of dimension up to 10 over any field. The study reveals a new subclasses of powerful groups that we call powerfully nilpotent groups and powerfully soluble groups.
