Abstract:We show Fujita's spectrum conjecture for $\epsilon$-log canonical pairs and Fujita's log spectrum conjecture for log canonical pairs. Then, we generalize the pseudo-effective threshold of a single divisor to multiple divisors and establish the analogous finiteness and the DCC properties.

Abstract:We establish the asymptotic expansion of certain integrals of [Formula: see text] classes on moduli spaces of curves [Formula: see text], when either the [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text] goes to infinity. Our main tools are cut-join type recursion formulae from the Witten–Kontsevich theorem, as well as asymptotics of solutions to the first Painlevé equation. We also raise a conjecture on large genus asymptotics for [Formula: see text]-point functions of [Formula: see text] classes and partially verify the positivity of coefficients in generalized Mirzakhani’s formula of higher Weil–Petersson volumes.

Abstract:A classical result of Fekete gives necessary conditions on a compact set in the complex plane so that it contains infinitely many sets of conjugate algebraic integers. We prove an effective version of Fekete's theorem in terms of a height function. As an application, we give a lower bound on the growth of the leading coefficient of certain polynomial sequences, generalizing a result by Schur. Lastly, we give an upper bound on minimal asymptotics of height over sequences of algebraic numbers.

Abstract:Recent study in K-stability suggests that Kawamata log terminal (klt) singularities whose local volumes are bounded away from zero should be bounded up to special degeneration. We show that this is true in dimension three, or when the minimal log discrepancies of Kollár components are bounded from above. We conjecture that the minimal log discrepancies of Kollár components are always bounded from above, and verify it in dimension three when the local volumes are bounded away from zero. We also answer a question from Han, Liu, and Qi on the relation between log canonical thresholds and local volumes.

Abstract:Let $f\colon X\to X$ be a dominant meromorphic self-map of a compact complex variety $X$ in the Fujiki class $\mathcal{C}$. If the topological degree of $f$ is strictly larger than the other dynamical degrees of $f$, we show that the number of isolated $f$-periodic points grows exponentially fast similarly to the topological degrees of the iterates of $f$; in particular, we give a positive answer to a conjecture of Shou-Wu Zhang. In the general case, we show that the exponential growth of the number of isolated $f$-periodic points is at most the algebraic entropy of $f$.

Abstract:This article addresses a combinatorial problem with applications to algebraic geometry. To a convex lattice polytope $P$ and each of its integer dilations $kP$ one may associate the barycenter of its lattice points. This sequence of $k$-quantized barycenters converge to the (classical) barycenter of the polytope considered as a convex body. A basic question arises: is there a complete asymptotic expansion for this sequence? If so, what are its terms? This article initiates the study of this question. First, we establish the existence of such an expansion as well as determine the first two terms. Second, for Delzant lattice polytopes we use toric algebra to determine all terms using mixed volumes of virtual rooftop polytopes, or alternatively in terms of higher Donaldson--Futaki invariants. Third, for reflexive polytopes we show the quantized barycenters are colinear to first order, and actually colinear in the case of polygons. The proofs use Ehrhart theory, convexity arguments, and toric algebra. As applications we derive the complete asymptotic expansion of the Fujita--Odaka stability thresholds $\delta_k$ on arbitrary polarizations on (possibly singular) toric varieties. In fact, we show they are rational functions of $k$ for sufficiently large $k$. This gives the first general result on Tian's stabilization problem for $\delta_k$-invariants for (possibly singular) toric Fanos: $\delta_k$ stabilize in $k$ if and only if they are all equal to $1$, and when smooth if and only if asymptotically Chow semistable. We also relate the asymptotic expansions to higher Donaldson--Futaki invariants of test configurations motivated by Ehrhart theory, and unify in passing previous results of Donaldson, Ono, Futaki, and Rubinstein--Tian--Zhang.

The Fyodorov-Hiary-Keating Conjecture on Mesoscopic Intervals

Abstract:We derive precise upper bounds for the maximum of the Riemann zeta function on short intervals on the critical line, showing for any $\theta\in(-1,0]$, the set of $t\in [T,2T]$ for which $$\max_{|h|\leq \log^\theta T}|\zeta(\tfrac{1}{2}+it+ih)|>\exp\bigg({y+\sqrt{(\log\log T)|\theta|/2}\cdot {S}}\bigg)\frac{(\log T)^{(1+\theta)}}{(\log\log T)^{3/4}}$$ is bounded above by $Cy\exp({-2y-y^2/((1+\theta)\log\log T)})$ (where $S$ is a random variable that is approximately a standard Gaussian as $T$ tends to infinity). This settles a strong form of a conjecture of Fyodorov--Hiary--Keating in mesoscopic intervals which was only known in the leading order. Using similar techniques, we also derive upper bounds for the second moment of the zeta function on such intervals. Conditioning on the value of $S$, we show that for all $t\in[T,2T]$ outside a set of order $o(T)$, $$\frac{1}{\log^\theta T}\int_{|h|\in \log^\theta T} |\zeta(\tfrac{1}{2}+it+ih)|^2\mathrm{d}h \ll e^{2S}\cdot \left(\frac{(\log T)^{(1+\theta)}}{\sqrt{\log\log T}}\right).$$ This proves a weak form of another conjecture of Fyodorov-Keating and generalizes a result of Harper, which is recovered at $\theta = 0$ (in which case $S$ is defined to be zero). Our main tool is an adaptation of the recursive scheme introduced by one of the authors, Bourgade and Radziwiłł to mesoscopic intervals.

Abstract:Let $(X,B)$ be an $\epsilon$-lc pair of dimension $d$ with a closed point $x\in X$. Birkar conjectured that there is an effective Cartier divisor $H$ passing through $x$ such that $(X,B+tH)$ is lc near $x$, where $t$ is a positive real number depending only on $d,\epsilon$. We prove that Birkar's conjecture is equivalent to Shokurov's conjecture on boundedness of klt complements on Fano fibrations and we confirm Birkar's conjecture in dimension 2. As a corollary, we prove the boundedness of klt complements on Fano fibrations over surfaces.

Abstract:Generalizing Fujita-Odaka invariant, we define a function δ ˜ on a set of generalized b-divisors over a smooth Fano variety. This allows us to provide a new characterization of uniform K-stability. A key role is played by a new Riemann-Zariski formalism for K-stability. For any generalized b-divisor D, we introduce a (uniform) D -log K-stability notion. We prove that the existence of a unique Kähler-Einstein metric with prescribed singularities implies this new K-stability notion when the prescribed singularities are given by the generalized b-divisor D. We connect the existence of a unique Kähler-Einstein metric with prescribed singularities to a uniform D -log Ding-stability notion which we introduce. We show that these conditions are satisfied exactly when δ ˜ ( D ) > 1 , extending to the D-log setting the δ-valuative criterion of Fujita-Odaka and Blum-Jonsson. Finally we prove the strong openness of the uniform D-log Ding stability as a consequence of the strong continuity of δ ˜ .

Limit theorems for critical faces above the vanishing threshold

Abstract:We investigate convergence of point processes associated with critical faces for a Čech filtration built over a homogeneous Poisson point process in the $d$-dimensional flat torus. The convergence of our point process is established in terms of the $\mathcal M_0$-topology, when the connecting radius of a Čech complex decays to $0$, so slowly that critical faces are even less likely to occur than those in the regime of threshold for homological connectivity. We also obtain a series of limit theorems for positive and negative critical faces, all of which are considerably analogous to those for critical faces.

On Effective Convergence in Fekete's Lemma and Related Combinatorial Problems in Information Theory

Abstract:Fekete's lemma is a well known result from combinatorial mathematics that shows the existence of a limit value related to super- and subadditive sequences of real numbers. In this paper, we analyze Fekete's lemma in view of the arithmetical hierarchy of real numbers by Zheng and Weihrauch and fit the results into an information-theoretic context. We introduce special sets associated to super- and subadditive sequences and prove their effective equivalence to $\Sigma_1$ and $\Pi_1$. Using methods from the theory established by Zheng and Weihrauch, we then show that the limit value emerging from Fekete's lemma is, in general, not a computable number. Given a sequence that additionally satisfies non-negativity, we characterize under which conditions the associated limit value can be computed effectively and investigate the corresponding modulus of convergence. Subsidiarily, we prove a theorem concerning the structural differences between computable sequences of computable numbers and computable sequences of rational numbers. We close the paper by a discussion on how our findings affect common problems from information theory.

Abstract:Let $p_1,\ldots,p_n$ be a set of points in the unit square and let $T_1,\ldots,T_n$ be a set of $\delta$-tubes such that $T_j$ passes through $p_j$. We prove a lower bound for the number of incidences between the points and tubes under a natural regularity condition (similar to Frostman regularity). As a consequence, we show that in any configuration of points $p_1,\ldots, p_n \in [0,1]^2$ along with a line $\ell_j$ through each point $p_j$, there exist $j\neq k$ for which $d(p_j, \ell_k) \lesssim n^{-2/3+o(1)}$. It follows from the latter result that any set of $n$ points in the unit square contains three points forming a triangle of area at most $n^{-7/6+o(1)}$. This new upper bound for Heilbronn's triangle problem attains the high-low limit established in our previous work <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2305.18253" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2305.18253">arXiv:2305.18253</a>.

Sharp bounds on the height of K-semistable Fano varieties I, the toric case

Abstract:Inspired by Fujita's algebro-geometric result that complex projective space has maximal degree among all K-semistable complex Fano varieties, we conjecture that the height of a K-semistable metrized arithmetic Fano variety X of relative dimension n is maximal when X is the projective space over the integers, endowed with the Fubini-Study metric. Our main result establishes the conjecture for the canonical integral model of a toric Fano variety when n is less than or equal to 6 (the extension to higher dimensions is conditioned on a conjectural "gap hypothesis" for the degree). Translated into toric Kähler geometry this result yields a sharp lower bound on a toric invariant introduced by Donaldson, defined as the minimum of the toric Mabuchi functional. We furthermore reformulate our conjecture as an optimal lower bound on Odaka's modular height. In any dimension n it is shown how to control the height of the canonical toric model X, with respect to the Kähler-Einstein metric, by the degree of X. In a sequel to this paper our height conjecture is established for any projective diagonal Fano hypersurface, by exploiting a more general logarithmic setup.
