Abstract:Let $(X,B)$ be an $\epsilon$-lc pair of dimension $d$ with a closed point $x\in X$. Birkar conjectured that there is an effective Cartier divisor $H$ passing through $x$ such that $(X,B+tH)$ is lc near $x$, where $t$ is a positive real number depending only on $d,\epsilon$. We prove that Birkar's conjecture is equivalent to Shokurov's conjecture on boundedness of klt complements on Fano fibrations and we confirm Birkar's conjecture in dimension 2. As a corollary, we prove the boundedness of klt complements on Fano fibrations over surfaces.

Abstract:Let $f\colon X\to Z$ be a Mori fibre space. McKernan conjectured that the singularities of $Z$ are bounded in terms of the singularities of $X$. Shokurov generalised this to pairs: let $(X,B)$ be a klt pair and $f\colon X\to Z$ a contraction such that $K_X+B\sim_\R 0/Z$ and that the general fibres of $f$ are Fano type varieties; adjunction for fibre spaces produces a discriminant divisor $B_Z$ and a moduli divisor $M_Z$ on $Z$. it is then conjectured that the singularities of $(Z,B_Z+M_Z)$ are bounded in terms of the singularities of $(X,B)$. We prove Shokurov conjecture when $(F,\Supp B_F)$ belongs to a bounded family where $F$ is a general fibre of $f$ and $K_F+B_F=(K_X+B)|_F$.
On boundedness and moduli spaces of K-stable Calabi-Yau fibrations over curves

Abstract:We show boundedness of polarized Calabi--Yau fibrations over curves only with fixed volumes of general fibers and Iitaka volumes. As its application, we construct a separated coarse moduli space of K-stable Calabi-Yau fibrations over curves in an adiabatic sense [Hat22b] and show that all members (resp. smooth members) of the moduli are simultaneously uniformly K-stable (resp. have cscK metrics) for a certain choice of polarizations.

Abstract:In this note, we reduce various conjectures in birational geometry, including Shokurov conjecture on singularities of the base of log Calabi-Yau fibrations of Fano type and boundedness conjecture for rationally connected Calabi-Yau varieties, to a conjecture on multiplicities of fibers of Fano fibrations over curves.

Abstract:We explore the relationship between fibrations arising naturally from a surjective morphism to an abelian variety. These fibrations encode geometric information about the morphism. Our study focuses on the interplay of these fibrations and presents several applications. Then we propose a generalization of the Iitaka conjecture which predicts an equality of Kodaira dimension of fibrations, and prove it when the base is a smooth projective variety of maximal Albanese dimension.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove various results on boundedness and singularities of Fano fibrations and of Fano type fibrations. A Fano fibration is a projective morphism X→ Z of algebraic varieties with connected fibres such that X is Fano over Z, that is, X has "good" singularities and -K_X is ample over Z. A Fano type fibration is similarly defined where X is assumed to be close to being Fano over Z. This class includes many central ingredients of birational geometry such as Fano varieties, Mori fibre spaces, flipping and divisorial contractions, crepant models, germs of singularities, etc. We develop the theory in the more general framework of log Calabi-Yau fibrations. Dans cet article, nous prouvons divers résultats sur les limites et les singularités de fibrations de Fano et les fibrations de type Fano. Une fibration de Fano est un morphisme projectif X→ Z de variétés algébriques à fibres connexes tel que X est Fano sur Z, c'est-à-dire que X a de "bonnes" singularités et -K_X est ample sur Z. Une fibration de type Fano est définie de façon similaire quand X est supposé être proche d'être Fano sur Z. Cette classe comprend de nombreux ingrédients centraux de géométrie birationnelle tels que les variétés de fano, les espaces de fibres Mori, le flip et les contractions divisorielles, les modèles répétiteurs, les germes de singularités, etc. Nous développons la théorie dans le cadre plus général des log-fibrations de Calabi-Yau.

Abstract:We answer an open question concerning the boundedness of canonical fiber spaces in high dimensions and prove the following: for any set of integers $n\geq 3$, $0<d<n$ and $N>0$, there exists a nonsingular projective $n$-fold $X$ of general type so that $X$ is canonically fibred by $d$-dimensional varieties $F$ with $p_g(F)\geq N$. This disproves the desired boundedness parallel to Beauville's boundedness theorem in the surface case.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate singularities on fibrations and related topics. We prove a conjecture of Shokurov and McKernan on singularities on Fano type fibrations and a conjecture of the author on singularities on log Calabi-Yau fibrations. From these we derive a variant of a conjecture of McKernan and Prokhorov on rationally connected varieties with nef anti-canonical divisor. We discuss other applications including existence of bounded klt complements and gonality of fibres of del Pezzo fibrations. We prove a general result on controlling multiplicities of fibres of certain fibrations (not necessarily of Fano type) which is the key ingredient of the proofs of the above results.

Abstract:Let $B$ be a smooth projective curve and let $\pi: \mathcal{X} \to B$ be a smooth integral model of a geometrically integral Fano variety over $K(B)$. Geometric Manin's Conjecture predicts the structure of the irreducible components $M \subset \textrm{Sec}(\mathcal{X}/B)$ which parametrize non-relatively free sections of sufficiently large anticanonical degree. Over the complex numbers, we prove that for any such component $M$ the sections come from morphisms $f: \mathcal{Y} \to \mathcal{X}$ such that the generic fiber of $\mathcal{Y}$ has Fujita invariant $\geq 1$. Furthermore, we prove that there is a bounded family of morphisms $f$ which together account for all such components $M$. These results verify the first part of Batyrev's heuristics for Geometric Manin's Conjecture over $\mathbb{C}$. Our result has ramifications for Manin's Conjecture over global function fields: if we start with a Fano fibration over a number field and reduce mod $p$, we obtain upper bounds of the desired form by first letting the prime go to infinity, then the height.

Abstract:Let f : Y → X be a finite morphism between Fano manifolds Y and X such that the Fano index of X is greater than 1. On the one hand, when both X and Y are fourfolds of Picard number 1, we show that the degree of f is bounded in terms of X and Y unless X ≅ P 4 ; hence, such X does not admit any non-isomorphic surjective endomorphism. On the other hand, when X = Y is either a fourfold or a del Pezzo manifold, we prove that, if f is an int-amplified endomorphism, then X is toric. Moreover, we classify all the singular quadrics admitting non-isomorphic endomorphisms.

Abstract:Assuming the Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture for the generic fiber of a Calabi-Yau fibration and the abundance conjecture, we show (1) the finiteness of minimal models, (2) the existence of a weak rational polyhedral fundamental domain under the action of birational automorphism groups, and (3) the finiteness of varieties as targets of contractions. As an application, the finiteness of minimal models and the weak Morrison-Kawamata cone conjecture in relative dimensions $\leq 2$ are established.

Abstract:We show that elliptic Calabi--Yau threefolds form a bounded family. We also show that the same result holds for minimal terminal threefolds of Kodaira dimension 2, upon fixing the rate of growth of pluricanonical forms and the degree of a multisection of the Iitaka fibration. Both of these hypotheses are necessary to prove the boundedness of such a family.

Abstract: It is conjectured that the moduli b-divisor of the Kawamata-Kodaira canonical bundle formula associated to a klt-trivial fibration $(X,B)\to Z$ is semi-ample. In this paper, we show the semi-ampleness of an arbitrarily small perturbation of the moduli b-divisor by a fixed appropriate divisor which roughly speaking comes from a section of $K_X+B$. We apply the above result to settle a conjecture of Fujino and Gongyo: if $f\colon X\to Z$ is a smooth surjective morphism of smooth projective varieties with $-K_X$ semi-ample, then $-K_Z$ is also semi-ample. We list several counter-examples to show that this fails without the smoothness assumption on $f$.
Optimal bound for singularities on Fano type fibrations of relative dimension one

Abstract:Let $\pi:X\rightarrow Z$ be a Fano type fibration with $\dim X-\dim Z=d$ and let $(X,B)$ be an $\epsilon$-lc pair with $K_X+B\sim_{\RR} 0/Z$. The canonical bundle formula gives $(Z,B_Z+M_Z)$ where $B_Z$ is the discriminant divisor and $M_Z$ is the moduli divisor which is determined up to $\RR$-linear equivalence. Shokurov conjectured that one can choose $M_Z\geq 0$ such that $(Z,B_Z+M_Z)$ is $\delta$-lc where $\delta$ only depends on $d,\epsilon$. Very recently, this conjecture was proved by Birkar \cite{Bir23}. For $d=1$ and $\epsilon=1$, Han, Jiang and Luo \cite{HJL22} gave the optimal value of $\delta=1/2$. In this paper, we give the optimal value of $\delta$ for $d=1$ and arbitrary $0<\epsilon\leq 1$.
